HS VIEW Incorrect Datatype VARCHAR2 Lengths Object Type
Hello,
One more question please.
I created a view in Oracle10gr2 to which pulls from an HS ODBC using a database link.
The problem is that the source database sets a particular column to VARCHAR2 (100) for a length, however the view when pulled only displays VARCHAR2(56).
Which is the actual length of the longest row of data for that column.
So this will be a problem if a row is inserted that is longer than (56) and I query the same view, I assume it will truncate.
Rather than creating an Object View and setting the lengths explicity, then calling the Object View from the View, as shown below. Is there a setting to force the view to use the columns constraints from the source??
Example using the Object View:
Creating an Object View: Example The following example shows the creation of the type inventory_typ in the oc schema, and the oc_inventories view that is based on that type:
CREATE TYPE inventory_typ
OID '82A4AF6A4CD4656DE034080020E0EE3D'
AS OBJECT
( product_id NUMBER(6)
, warehouse warehouse_typ
, quantity_on_hand NUMBER(8)
CREATE OR REPLACE VIEW oc_inventories OF inventory_typ
WITH OBJECT OID (product_id)
AS SELECT i.product_id,
warehouse_typ(w.warehouse_id, w.warehouse_name, w.location_id),
i.quantity_on_hand
FROM inventories i, warehouses w
WHERE i.warehouse_id=w.warehouse_id;
Any suggestions are appreciated.
Thanks
I'm not sure if it is really a good idea to store time information in a string (And why is this string 16 chars long?)
But anyway here is a sample that worked for me:
create or replace type hour as object(
hhmmss varchar2(16),
member function HourToSysdate return date
create or replace type body hour as
member function HourToSysdate return date is
begin
return to_date(to_char(sysdate, 'dd/mm/yyyy') || ' ' || self.hhmmss , 'dd/mm/yyyy hh24:mi:ss');
end HourToSysdate;
end;
create table labor (
id number,
hora hour
insert into labor values(1, hour('12:13:14'));
insert into labor values(2, hour('09:10:11'));
select id, to_char(hour.hourtosysdate(hora), 'DD.MM.YYYY HH24:MI:SS')
from labor
order by id;
or
select l.id, to_char(l.hora.hourtosysdate(), 'DD.MM.YYYY HH24:MI:SS')
from labor l
order by l.id;

Bind problem for varchar2 of object type??
Hello all,
I am trying out binding Oracle Object types to java object types using the SQLData interface.
I created a simple object type called employee with the syntax
create type employee as object (empName varchar2(50),empNo number(9));
I then created a class called EmplyoeeObj which implements the interface. The code for the readSQL and
writeSQL methods are below:
public void readSQL(SQLInput stream, String typeName) throws SQLException {
empName = stream.readString();
empNo = stream.readInt();
public void writeSQL(SQLOutput stream) throws SQLException {
stream.writeString(empName);
stream.writeInt(empNo);
empName is a String and empNo is an int. The code that does the calling is:
String query = "{call test_employee(?)}";
Map map = connection.getTypeMap();
map.put("CISWEB.EMPLOYEE",
Class.forName("test.jdbc.EmployeeObj"));
/*Set back the type map with the new mappings*/
connection.setTypeMap(map);
/*Create a statement to make the call */
ocs = (OracleCallableStatement)connection.prepareCall(query);
ocs.registerOutParameter(1,
OracleTypes.STRUCT,
"CISWEB.EMPLOYEE");
boolean isWorked = ocs.execute();
System.out.println("Execute finished........");
Object outParam = ocs.getObject(1);
System.out.println("Object was obtained........" + outParam);
System.out.println("name:" + ((EmployeeObj)outParam).getName());
As can be seen I have created a stored procedure which has one out parameter. All
this preocedure does is assign an Employee object to the out parameter with a name of
'Alex' and an employee number of 9.
The code runs and all but I get this strange result. In the print I am getting the employee number
coming out correctly but the employee name comes out as 3 question marks. I can't understand why
"Alex" does not out. I have tried different things such as adding a new varchar2 to the object type and new a new integer and what I observer is that I keep getting 3 question marks coming back instead of whatever I assign for the employee name. Could someone please help and let me know what could be wrong?
I have no clue as what is causing this weird behaviour.
Thanks.Hi,
i have not really a idea. But at the next step i would
try the same procedure with in/out parameter and use a
initialized string. Maybe there is a problem to
determine the length of string.
Bye ThomasThanks for you reply Thomas,
This is the code for stored procedure that I use. As can be seen I just assign an employee to the
out parameter.
CREATE OR REPLACE PROCEDURE test_employee(emp out EMPLOYEE) IS
BEGIN
emp := EMPLOYEE('Alex',49);
END;
Now in the java code when the statement >>
System.out.println("name:" + ((EmployeeObj)outParam).getName());
executes I get the name coming out as the String: "???". That is three question marks. It is very weird. I then attempted to create the object using JPublisher and I get the same result. I attempted not only to use hte SQLData interface but Oracle's ORAData interfaces as well. I went to to create a table with column as the EMPLOYEE type and use in insert to put the same object and and then sellect * from the table to the the and I still get the 3 question marks for the name and the number comes out correctly.
I am not sure what could be causing the text to come out as three question marks. I am using Oracle 9.2.0.4.0 and the ojdbc_g.jar drivers version :9.2.0.3.0. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Help! modifying size of varchar2 in object-type
Hi,
Does anybody know a way to increase the size of a varchar2 attribute in an ORACLE object type without having to drop all object tables created from this type? I'm working on a ORACLE 8i (8.1.6) version and there are several millions of records stored in that table, and all I need to do is modify a varchar2(35) to varchar2(100).
MichaelThis command don't work ?
alter table TABLE_NAME modify COLUMN_NAME varchar2(100); -
XML attributes and object types
I want to create an XML Document of the following form
<family>
<parent attr1="val1">
<child attr2="val2" attr3="val3"/>
</parent>
</family>
Using object table and object type (for the child element), I am able to produce the following XML Document (with a "select * from family" query)
<family> <!-- rowset -->
<parent> <!-- row -->
<attr1>val1</attr1>
<child>
<attr2>val2</attr2>
<attr3>val3</attr3>
</child>
</parent>
</family>
The question is: how am I going to query these data so that the "attr" elements are mapped to attributes (using XSU only, without XSLT)?
I have already tried the following:
1. Using
SELECT attr1 as "@attr1",
f.child.attr2 "@attr2",
f.child.attr3 "@attr3"
FROM family f
all the attributes are obviously appended to the "parent" element.
2. Using nested table for "child" and the following query
SELECT attr1 as "@attr1",
CURSOR (
SELECT n.child.attr2 as "@attr2", n.child.attr3 as "@attr3"
FROM TABLE(f.child n)
) AS "child"
FROM family f
I am getting the following document
<family>
<parent attr1="val1">
<child>
<child_ROW attr2="val2" attr3="val3"/>
</child>
</parent>
</family>
Is there a smart SQL query to produce the desired document? What data types
is it recommended to use to define my db schema (object types, nested tables...)?
Thank you in advance
nullFinally, I got the desired XML format output from relational tablse using schema based XMLType views.
Wherein I created Object Types from relational table, generated the schema for the Object type, registered the schema and finally created XMLType Views for populating the XML data from Relational Tables.
I guess, you all might aware of my problem, where I got struck. Instead of printing the data in XML format I am successful in generating the XML format data Using the Query Select from BLABLA_Type_view* . I am able to print the number of rows, that I require which is in the fallowing format.
Column Name
1. SYS.XMLTYPE ----- As a row
The view I am querying for is printing the data in a string format, where in I got to do the fallowing query
SELECT SYS.XMLTYPE.getStringVal(OBJECT_VALUE) FROM BLABLA_Type_view. Which ultimately gave me the required data in XML format with tags.
Thanks for every one who tried to give a try to solve, especially "mdrake" -
Naming Standard - Object Types
Is there a way to extend the options under 'Naming Standard:' to include object types? As well as object type attributes, attributes that are created when a REF link is created or when an attribute's datatype is another object type. I would like to change the template format that is used when the default names are used when creating these items.
Thanks,
ScottKHi Scott,

Create object type from multiple tables for select statement
Hi there,
I have 3 tables as given below and I wish to create an object type to group selected columns as 'attribute' from multiple tables.
I need to create 2 input parameters to pass in - 'attribute' and 'attribute value' in PL/SQL and these 2 parameters will be
passing in with 'column name' and 'column value'. e.g. 'configuration' - the column name, 'eval' - the column value.
Then, the PL/SQL will execute the select statement with the column and column value provided to output the record.
Pls advise and thank you.

Reason to do this as these fields are required to be grouped together as they are created in different tables. They are treated as 'attribute' (consists of many columns) of the part number. So, the PL/SQL is requested to design in a way able for user to pass in the column name and column value or part number, then the select statement should be able to query for the records. Another reason is a new column can be added easily without keep modifying those effected programs. Reuseable too.This basically equates to ... hard to code, hard to maintain, and poor performance.
Are you really sure you want to do this? This isn't going to be easy-street as you seem to think it is, but it's a one way street to a poorly performing system with security vulnerabilities (google SQL Injection).
I would highly recommend you reconsider your design decision here. -

Ok, itunes keeps crashing. Have used disk utility to repair permissions, in regular mode, safe mode, and at start up. None of that worked. Was thinking maybe internet recovery may be my only option.

I have a couple of links here for you that should be able to help you with this issue. First, I would suggest isolating the issue by following the steps located in this article:
Isolating an issue by using another user account
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4053
If you are still having trouble with iTunes in the new user account, then you should attempt to reinstall iTunes on your computer. Information about doing this can be found here:
OS X Lion: Reinstall applications that came with your computer
http://support.apple.com/kb/PH4360
Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities!

Hi all,
in scott Schema by ADF B.C 10.1.3, I created an entity object like emp
and created view object EmpView from emp and dept entities
and Application Module
and when draging EmpView and dropping it in jspx
while running I got an error :
JB0-25003 your EmpView View Object has no Type
How to determine a View Object Type (read only or updatable) in B.C ?
ThanksHi,
this should not require any manual confiuration. Can you select the ApplicationModule in the model, right click on it and run the ADf BC tester ? Check if he ViewObject runs if not added to JSF

Implementing object type methods
I am having some problems with the object type method implementation.
I have poured over the docs and so far they have lead me to a dead end each time.
I am trying to implement a pl/sql object with methods that map to methods in a corresponding java class. The code is as follows:
the java class:
package possystems.poseqdb;
public class ObjTypeCallSpecTest {
private String teststring;
public void mutateString() {
this.testString = "the second value";
the oracle object type:
create type objecttesttype as Object (
teststring varchar2(255),
member procedure objtest as language java
name 'possystems.poseqdb.ObjTypeCallSpecTest.mutateString()'
the anonymous pl/sql block calling the method:
declare
auth1 objecttesttype;
begin
auth1:=objecttesttype('the first string');
dbms_output.put_line('1 '||auth1.teststring||' 1');
auth1.objtest();
dbms_output.put_line('2 '||auth1.teststring||' 2');
end;
There is nothing fancy going on here. The problem I have is the auth1.objtest() call allways returns the following error:
1 the first string 1
declare
ERROR at line 1:
ORA-00932: inconsistent datatypes
ORA-06512: at "ANDRE.OBJECTTESTTYPE", line 0
ORA-06512: at line 6
Note the first line of output is the first dbms_output message indicating the object was properly instantiated.
Could someone please let me know what stupid little thing I have overlooked or have misunderstood from the oracle docs.

Use object types as data structures to be manipulated using packages, and ignore the type body possibility.
>
Well that would be throwing away a powerful part of the TYPE functionality.
The methods in the type body can be, and often are, used to provide multi-column validation to prevent the creation of invalid instances. A simple example is an ADDRESS_TYPE (e.g. ADDRESS1, ADDRESS2, CITY, STATE, ZIP) where a valid instance must have a value for each attribute except ADDRESS2 which might be optional.
The constructor and the methods in the body can perform validation to ensure that the components meet certain minimum requirements: not null, length (a 1 byte address wouldn't make much sense), character or numeric content, etc. A SET_ADDRESS1 method can also perform those validations.
That allows instances of those types to be used by PL/SQL code without repeated validation of the attributes. I use such basic TYPEs extensively in ETL and reporting processes. Even something as simple as a TYPE that has FROM_DATE and TO_DATE benefits by having constructor and body methods that prevent the attributes from being NULL and ensure that any TO_DATE is later than the FROM_DATE. -
Reg: View column datatype
Hi Team,
While creating the views, column automatically converted into varchar2(81) data type from number datatype.
but stage1 table has legacy_trx_number is number data type and statg2 table has header_num is number data type.
Just i added the highlighted part in the view. So automatiicaly converted number to varchar2 datatype. How to keep data type remain the same as source stage table datatype even though those columns used in the view.
CREATE OR REPLACE VIEW test_view AS
SELECT h1.legacy_trx_number
||'.'
||h2.header_num legacy_trx_number,
h1.legacy_trx_date,
h1.ledger_id,
h1.legal_entity_id,
h1.header_record_identifier,
h2.header_num,
h2.gl_date,
h2.header_value_full,
h2.header_value
FROM stage1 H1,
stage2 H2
WHERE h1.header_record_identifier = h2.header_record_identifier;
Please help give me suggestion on this.
Thanks in advance.You can do it like this!
Example:-
SQL> ed
Wrote file afiedt.buf
1 create view v_num_test
2 as
3* select to_number(5478||'.'||87489) result from dual
SQL> /
View created.
SQL> select * from v_num_test;
RESULT
5478.87489
SQL> desc v_num_test

Like this one perhaps. (I've not looked at it in a couple of years though.)
EXCEPTION is not a SQL datatype. Valid datatypes are listed here. -
