HSB color picker

Does anyone know of a plugin for IND that enables an HSB color picker? I really can't stand the color picker. It gets tiresome having to switch to PS for color picking. I understand how the IND color picker works, but there's no reason why there can't at least be an HSB option, especially for people who are now using IND to design things like ebooks. It's a waste of time. Any plugins that enable fast efficient HSB picking from within IND?

HSB would be invaluable not just for online work, but also for the conceptual phase of any design project.
It's easy to forget that, before we start production on any project, we actually have to design it. I do all my own production, so I love the production advances that have dominated InDesign's development.
But I'm  a designer first and a production jockey second. I'd like to see some focus on the conceptualization end of things.
HSB is a much more productive model for conceptual design – it's the model for color theory in design.
Human beings understand it much more intuitively than RGB or CMYK. (RGB and CMYK mimic the sensor instrumentation of color vision, but not so much the perceptual end of things)
It's also odd that the integrated Creative Suite has HSB in Ps and Ai, but leaves it out in Id.
I'd really like to see this model added to ID's color system.

  • How do I create this color-picker-HSB gradient?

What seemed trivial at first glance has turned out as quite a challange!
I would like to create a special kind of black/white/alpha gradient to mimic the HSB color picker in Photoshop:
    Saturation
    0 100
    +--------------+ 100
    |white.....pure hue|
    |.....................| B
    |.....................| r
    |.....................| i
    |.....................| g
    |.....................| h
    |.....................| t
    |.....................| n
    |.....................| e
    |.....................| s
    |.....................| s
    |.....................|
    |.....black......| 0
    +--------------+
I've tried numerous ways of blending screen/multiply, setting gradient smoothing to 0-100%, using layer masks, etc, etc - but when I compare my composite with a screenshot of the Photoshop color picker - I'm still not even close! :-(
Is the gradients non-linear? Is gamma involved?
I downloaded a low-res png-24 of this unique gradient from the internet, but would like to make a hi-res version (and understand how it works!).
Additionally, my layer mask isn't black white but black and pink! I can't wrap my head around that color management thing...
    Best,
    Robert

Photoshop has not given us a tool to produce gradients in HSB (only RGB). In order to get the color picker slices it does produce, Photoshop itself is obviously able to create HSB gradients.

  • MS "Color Dialogue Box" popping up instead of "Adobe Color Picker" inside PSE 10.

For purposes of this question, I'm providing definitions of the terms herein used.
--Toolbox: The 2 columns of Tools on the left side of the Editor screen.
--Foreground Color & Background Color: The color filled squares at the bottom of the Toolbox.
--Color dialogue box: This is the pop-up that is labeled at the top with "Color". It shows 48 different color squares (6 rows by 8 columns); they are labeled "Basic colors:". Right below the "Basic colors:" array is another 16 empty squares (2 rows by 8 columns) to be filled with colors to be defined. There is a "Define Custom Colors>>" button when clicked opens up a color picker with HSB RGB stacked below the color field screen. • Problems with Optimize Window Matte Color Picker

Every time I try to open the Optimize Window's Matte Color
Picker when the palette is docked to the right side of the screen,
the color picker opens off screen so that I can't see it. I have to
move the palette to the center on my monitor to see the color
picker. Anyone else having this problem?

Matte Color Solid and Boris Vector Shape match for me. Matte Color does not.
I could not get the colors to match with the eyedropper. I could not figure out what was going on with the eyedroppper.
When I used the crayon selector, my results were the same as when I manually entered a set of numbers
I'm doing this test on my laptop, looking at the canvas, DV sequence.
By looking at the internal vectorscope and waveform I could see that the brightness and saturation were not matching. Hue seemed to be right on.
By lowering brightness and increasing the saturation on Matte Color I was able match it to the other. But as Zeb points out, this visual match required different HSB values.
Play with the Boris Vector Shape if you haven't. Cool.

i think the color picker its strange... and i can´t change it back to how it was, in fact i don´t know how it happen. it is set to adobe intead of apple, but anyway... it strange... and im used to how it was before.

It's exactly the same color picker:  you simply chose a different slice of the HSB colorspace.
Just click on the H button instead of the B you switched to.

  • HSB Color Space Question - How Many Colors Are There In Photoshop

Hello guys, I have a sort of basic question that I have been trying to figure out for a few days.
I am trying to find out how many colors there are in the Color Picker  when the Hue radio button is selected.
I know there are 256^3 RGB (#Hex) colors, and I am trying to find some relationship when I am coloring with HSB color space in Photoshop.
It just confuses me because the Hue slider goes from 0-359 and the S and B goes from 0-99...
So how many HSB colors in Photoshop are there?  Am I missing out on some colors by using HSB color space in Photoshop as oposed to using RGB?
Are there the exact same amount?  Are there more and there are duplicates in HSB space mode?
Thank you all for all your help, much appreciated

The deficiency of such mathematical models is that they do not take into account noise and human perception. In an 24 bit RGB space (8 bits per channel) there may be 16 million colors, but this assumes that there are 256 discrete levels in each color channel. You could increase the number of colors by using a 48 bit space. In practice, noise will reduce the number of discrete levels, and this will vary with the camera and ISO used in that camera. For example, consider the Nikon D5000 as evaluated by DXO. At  base ISO the camera can resolve only 21.8 bits of color information and this decreases to 15.6 bits at an effective ISO of 2079 (camera ISO setting of 3200).
    http://www.dxomark.com/index.php/eng/Image-Quality-Database/Nikon/D5000
Then you have to consider how many of these colors can actually be differentiated by the human visual system. If you can't see a difference, it really doesn't matter. These differences are difficult to quantitate. One such effort uses MacAdam ellipses shown in this Wikipedia article on a CIE 1931 xy plot. How many of these ellipses are contained in the CIE xy space? The DXO site has similar ellipses for real world camera images.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MacAdam_ellipse
See this RIT FAQ for a more sober real world analysis. The actual number of colors is in the millions, but likely not 16 million.
    http://www.cis.rit.edu/mcsl/outreach/faq.php?catnum=1#219
In a real world situation, I would not be overly concerned about differences between the RGB and HSB spaces, but one could increase precision by using a 48 bit space.

  • Color Picker Rounding Issues

The new resizable color picker panel in CC2014 doesn't work the way I'd expect it to.
At it's current size for me, I'm unable to select pure black or red.
I'd expect the hue bar to start and end at 0°/360°, but, for me, the top-most value I can select is a hue of 350°
I'd expect that when I select the topmost-rightmost color, I'd get something like #ff0000 (pure red). Instead, with my hue at 0°, I get #ff0303
I'd expect that when I select anything along the bottom, I'd get pure black #000000, but instead I get anything from #020000 to #020202
I feel that this is an oversight that will negatively impact quite a number of users.
Has anyone else noticed this, and is this something that's important to you?

  • Color Picker missing Spectrum display in Illustrator CC 2014.1.0

The spectrum part of the color picker is showing random (?) colors in Illustrator. When I move the slider the color values do change, but this is not reflected in the spectrum display.
I've cleared my preferences and even reinstalled illustrator but the problem persists. Is anyone else seeing this? Any idea how to solve it. I've filed a bug report with Adobe.
I'm on OS X and just updated to 10.10 Yosemite but the problem was present in Mavericks as well.

This is also happening to me. I should note that the slider on the spectrum is functional and changes to the position on that bar are reflected, but it's a lot of guess and check to select colors. Interestingly, the bar on the right behaves differently when I'm selecting on HSB (Bar is always red):
vs  RGB (bar will change colors, never the same color as the actual color)
In either case, neither are gradients.
Frustratingly, I just spent TWO EFFING HOURS chatting with support, during which we uninstalled it, reinstalled it, and tried it in another account, and it still isn't resolved.

  • Color Picker won't change the color properly?

    Hi guys,
I have a weird issue with the color. When I changed the color from dark green to bright lime green on Color Picker. The Color Picker show the specific color I want and then I click "OK". It did not change the dark green to bright lime green... instead it show the dull green color. It is really bugging me because I can't figured it what wrong with it. I checked the Color Mode (RGB mode) and Color Setting... everything seems to be right to me.
    Here is the quick screenshot:
I also tested with other color, it still have the same problem. They won't show the bright color, it show the dull color instead.
I hope you guys can help me out!
    Thanks,
    Christie

OK, a few more thought on this.
Here's what I did and everyone can check for themselves. I made a screen capture of the Color picker and paste it in a RGB and also a CMYK document as shown on the images below. In the CMYK document this converts the RGB color values of the screen capture into the CMYK color space of the document and the colors in the palette are displayed within the document's gamut. If you take the eyedropper and click on any color of the palette on the image you will never get out of gamut colors and this is how they should be displayed in the real Color Picker. The Color picker can still display in a little box out of gamut color if they are selected numerically using the RGB or HSB models but the point is that the display of the palette should be converted to a CMYK color space.
In the RGB document on the second image, like in the real picker, clicking on the palette with the eyedropper will give a lot of out of gamut colors.
Now thinking about out of gamut colors. Illustrator decides what is out of gamut colors by comparing the color space of a CMYK document to the working RGB  color space set in the Color Settings and for an RGB document to the  working CMYK space in the Color Settings. But this is not practical all the time because it is one way only from RGB to CMYK and can not be set from CMYK to RGB, RGB to RGB, and CMYK to CMYK.
CMYK to RGB example: you may have a  document with U.S Web Coated (SWOP) v2 color space and one of its destinations is an sRGB color space. Because you can't set CMYK to RGB for out of gamut consideration, Illustrator will consider out of gamut all sRGB colors that are outside the U.S Web Coated (SWOP) v2 color space. But in this case your destination is sRGB and all colors from the sRGB color space should be presented in gamut and there is actually a small part of the U.S Web Coated (SWOP) v2 colors that are outside of the sRGB color space and only these colors should be shown as out of gamut.
RGB to RGB example: your document is set in Adobe RGB color space because it will be eventually printed to several RGB printers some of which may have narrower gamut than the document. Then you want to set Illustrator to display out of gamut only the colors in the Adobe RGB color space that the RGB printer can't print, but unfortunately this is not possible even if you have the color profile of the printer.
CMYK to CMYK example: you may have a  document with U.S Web Coated (SWOP) v2 color space but one of its destinations is U.S Web Uncoated v2, or US Newsprint, again not possible.
So, in all these examples, the out of gamut colors Illustrator gives in the Color picker and panel are completely useless. Of course the major tool for these tasks remains the soft proofing which is working properly but why not make the out of gamut colors in the Color picker and panel work better and make more sense.

  • How to change the color picker/color space view?

I wanted to change the color picker/color space view to what it looks like in the other Adobe programs. I have gotten used to using the color picker from the other programs and I have had problems with the look and function of this color view.
In InDesign the color picker looks like this:
And the Photoshop/Illustrator/etc. looks like this:
I've tried changing the "Convert To Profile..." and the Transparency Blend Space, but neither have done anything to what I want to be done.
Is there some way to change this in InDesign?
Note: I want to change the looks of the gradient-like area if that isn't obvious.

I was wanting to do the same change as you, until I saw your two images.
Within the InDesign image you've selected a dark blue colour (R:16, G:49, B:152)  AND you've got the (R)ed channel selected.
Within the Photoshop image you've selected a white colour(R:255, G:255, B:255)  AND you've got the (H)ue channel selected.
In Photoshop I can recreate both of your images by having the same settings for RGB/CMYK and selecting the same channel item as you have in those images.
    That's all.
There is no difference between the two colour selection dialogs except where the HSB, RGB, CMYK and LAB are placed.

  • Trying to insert this color picker. Javascript Question.

This is what I would like to do:
jQuery Color Picker, Selector, Chooser Plugin - colpick.com
    This is the code:
    <div class="color-box"></div> <div class="color-box"></div> <div class="color-box"></div>
    $('.color-box').colpick({ colorScheme:'dark', layout:'rgbhex', color:'ff8800', onSubmit:function(hsb,hex,rgb,el) { $(el).css('background-color', '#'+hex); $(el).colpickHide(); } }) .css('background-color', '#ff8800');
    .color-box { float:left; width:30px; height:30px; margin:5px; border: 1px solid white; }
I am confused about what goes where. From what I have read thus far, the JS should go into the Page Properties > Metadata > HTML.
The HTML should be inserted via Object > Insert HTML? No idea about the CSS.
    Ignorance is frustrating.

    Hi
    To answer your query.
    A. JS and CSS goes to head section of the page. Therefore, you need to add the same using :
    1. Right click on your page
    2. Choose "page properties"
    3. Choose metadata
    4. Add javascript/CSS in head section as defined below :
    For JS:
    <script type="text/javascript">
    your code goes here...
    </script>
    For CSS :
    <style>your css code goes here</style>
    Take a look :
    B. To define HTML on a page, you just use " insert as HTML" option and place your HTML code there. Take a look :
    I hope this helps
Let me know if you have any further query.

  • Color Picker Sliders not working ?

I'm using Dreamweaver CS6 and every time I try to pick a color using the Color Picker Sliders, it doesn't save it, have any of you encountered this issue ? Is there a way to fix this ?
    Thanks!

I get the same issue, most of the time it seems to work, but last night I selected a CSS style by double clicking it, I needed to make the background colour lighter so I selected System Color Picker and then chose Color Sliders followed by HSB Sliders.
Adjusted sliders to required colour, clicked OK and... nothing... The colour selected did not change in the selector box.
Selecting default colour, transparent or a colour from the main colour picker works. But using the Color picker Sliders does not work at all.
Anyone know of a fix for this?
I ended up screen capturing the colour, loading into Fireworks and sampling the colour, Have now added digital color meter so I can use this while I await a fix.
