Bootcamp: Two keyboards needed -- one for Windows and one for Mac?

Oh, the ground-pounding frustration! I bought the Apple wireless (Bluetooth) keyboard with my new dual-core Intel iMac, and was told it would work in both Windows and Mac worlds. Not so! It works fine with Apple OS, but not with Windows XP. Frustratingly, the wireless mighty-mouse works (after you left-click), but the keyboard won't work. Sometimes it will work if I turn it on and off a few times. And yes, I have activated the bluetooth finder in "control panel" under the Windows OS, and yes, both are recognized and "connected." (So is an HP printer which works well, albeit slowly.) I had to buy a Microsoft wired USB keyboard to get through the Windows setup. Curiously, this Microsoft wired keyboard works with both the Windows and Mac OS.
I have another issue, also, but perhaps it would best if I posted it separately. Still, if anyone can tell me why this computer cannot come out of "standby" in Windows without hanging up (weird colors on screen, half-brightness in screen, locked mouse and keyboard), I'd appreciate it very much.

Sorry, but here's the work from the BootCamp Requirements/FAQ page (emphasis mine):
"Are there any Macintosh features that I should not expect to work when running Windows XP on an Intel-based Macintosh computer?
Even after installling the Macintosh Drivers CD, the Apple Remote Control (IR), Apple Wireless (Bluetooth) keyboard or mouse, Apple USB Modem, MacBook Pro's sudden motion sensor, and MacBook Pro's ambient light sensor will not function correctly when running Windows."
So it does indeed look like you'll need a wired keyboard and mouse, at least for now (we'll have to see what's supported when Leopard comes out).

Fonts in Windows and Fonts in Java

Say I have in my app:
String string = "\\u09A1";
I want to display this in my app. I can call:
GraphicsEnvironment.getLocalGraphicsEnvironment().getAllFonts();
I can then iterate through these and find out which ones can display this unicode character using,
font.canDisplayUpTo(string);
My question is, are these the fonts that Java can display (from charsets.jar) or the ones installed in Windows?
I would like to be able to get lists for both of these.
Any ideas?

I should give an example:
I would like to print 'H' in Tahoma, 72, Bold (Windows format) at (100, 200).
Font sizes:
In Windows font size is 72 pixels.
In Java this is equal to 96 points (72 px * 96 (scr resolution for Toolkit) / 72 (pixels per point).
Real height in Windows and Java will be 64 px.
That's fine. For some fonts this does not work.
Positioning. See example above.
According to the article you refer to in java we should use y-coordinate 200 + 72 (font size) = 272.
In fact we have :
Java text 14 pixels below than expected.
Similar things happen to other parameters Weight, Styles, etc.
I do use AttributedString and TextAttribute classes to render text

Set up Windows and Parallels on Mac Pro

Can someone please give me step by step directions to best set up Windows and Parallels on my Mac Pro? Right now I am running Lion but will upgrade to Mountain Lion soon.
I want to mostly use Parallels to see how my website runs on PCs.
I have been a Mac/Apple user for 30 years so I know nothing about which version of Windows I need and how to go about setting it up. Do I need to partition my drive? Any other information would be helpful.

You can use any version of Windows, 2000, XP, Vista or Win 7.
I suggest you look for an over the counter OEM version of XP. It will run all currently available Windows software and older Windows software.
It uses less resources then Win 7, Even Win 7 32bit versions.
If you are running a Stock MBP with the normally included 4GBs of RAM I suggest you upgrade that to 8GBs, especially if you install Win 7. Otherwise you may run out of available RAM for both OSs.

Thanks Barbara and Michel, confirming that backup on from Elements 10 on Windows 7 and restore to Mac OSX albeit slow worked fine preserving stacks and tags.
Previous experience of upgrading Elements 5 to 10 on Windows lost all stacks which put me in the dog house with my wife who had spent a lot of time creating them.

Files do support cross platform workflow, however, there are certain limitations to it.

There are separate, dedicated license numbers for Macintosh and Windows.
You need to get on the phone to call Adobe Customer Service and request a "crossgrade", which involves a letter of destruction of the Windows version. There's a "nominal" charge.

Photoshop CS (1) and font problems (Mac OS X Leopard)

A friend of mine has Photoshop CS (1) on his G5 (running on Leopard) and he says that he has font problems ONLY IN PHOTOSHOP. Bad fonts, missing fonts. Now, whether he uses a font management software or not is not important since that problem does not happen in other programs (like Illustrator). Are there issues between Photoshop CS and fonts.

CS1 works on my friend's desktop which runs on Leopard but it doesn't seem to work on a Macbook which runs on Leopard. We've installed it and it's reported that installation is complete but upon opening the program, an error message states that certain files had not been installed and to reinstall the program to recover them. We've tried reinstalling multiple times but to no avail. Any explanation?

Sync music on windows and iCal on mac?

I use my main PC which runs windows to store my itunes music. However, I use a macbook pro for all my iCal needs. Is it possible to sync the music on the ipod from windows and sync iCal from the macbook pro on the same ipod?

Years ago, I bought an iPod Nano and I sync it with iTunes on my windows computer. I have many songs on my windows iTunes account. For work I received a MacBook Pro and an iPhone. I sync my phone to the mac still using that same iTunes account. There are some songs that I might want to put on both my nano and my phone. Will I have to buy that song two times? One for each computer?

Windows and Office for Mac in a MacBook Air?

I am planning to buy a new notebook, but I am having trouble deciding between the Macbook Air with 256 GB or 500GB and the MacBook Pro 13''. I am tired of carrying my heavy MacBook Pro 15'' so I want a real shift in portability and I will be running Mail, Safari, Calendar, Contacts, Office for Mac and Windows in Parallels for Explorer, Visio and Project. The issue is that with less money I can buy a MacBook Pro with 750GB but it is heavier and the HD is not solid state. And I am not sure that if I go for the Macbook Air with 256 GB (which is affordable) I will be able to run everything I need.
Someone that may help me decide?

Applications do not take up that much space. Here is a partial list of apps on one of my computers:
And there is more. This Applications folder is about 20gB. There are other files that come with these programs, but they take up much less space.
In sum then, you will be fine with 250 gB, of which you will take away say 30 gB for Parallels and its contents.

You might have gotten the Mac version anyways. Assuming you mean Photoshop Elements, your purchase is good for either platform. When you downloaded it might have automatically detected your system and delivered the proper version.
If you have a problem you should be able to get the proper version without having to make any arrangements with Adobe.
