HT1178 how to set time capsule on new network

I had a time capsule set up on a wireless network. The network changed modems and I forgot to change the time capsule. Now it will not register on the new network. How do I get it to register.

Do a factory reset.

  • HT1178 scan cannot find time capsule for new set up

I have connected airport time capsule with ethernet cable direct to the computer, but the scan for the new time capsule comes up with nothing.
Can anyone suggest a way to scan manually when manual scan button is greyed out.
    Thanks

Unfortunately, if you check the Specification page for the System Requirements for the new Time Capsule, it reads like this:
    Setup and Administration
iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with iOS 6 or later and AirPort Utility 1.3
         or
Mac with OS X Lion v10.7.5 or later and AirPort Utility 6.3
    http://www.apple.com/airport-time-capsule/specs/
So, if you have a new Time Capsule, you will not be able to use 10.6.8 to set it up and administer it.
If you have an iPhone or iPad handy, that could be used to set up the new Time Capsule.
If not, then you will need to upgrade your Mac to at least Lion (10.7.5) or higher.

  • How to put time capsule on new wifi network

Hi.  I moved and now my wifi network name and password are different.  How do I reconfigure my time capsule so that it's on the new network without losing any of my exsting information on it?

The Time Capsule is designed to function optimally when it connects to a modem/router using a wired Ethernet connection.
Are you planning to try to configure the Time Capsule to connect to your new network wirelessly?
In either case, you must reset the Time Capsule back to factory default settings and then set it up again to connect to the new network.
    To do this....
Power off the Time Capsule for a few minutes
Hold in the reset button first, and then keep holding the reset button in for an additional 10 seconds while you simultaneously plug the power back into the Time Capsule
Release the reset button after the hold period, and allow a full minute for the Time Capsule to restart to a slow, blinking amber light
Now you can reconfigure the Time Capsule again to connect to the new network....and you can use the same Time Capsule device name and device password that you used before if you wish.
Resetting the Time Capsule only affects the network settings, it will not affect any of the data that you have stored on the Time Capsule hard drive.

  • How to set Time capsule as base station and airport express to join

I have a wireless network using an Airport express. Now I would like to have time capsule to be set up as the base station and just the airport express to join this network, in order to listen wirelessly to music, but keep the speed of the time capsule.
Right now, the ethernet cable is connected to the Airport express. Do I have to switch that to the Time capsule? I tried to do that, but it wasn't able to connect to the internet in this case.... I am lost. Now I have a speedy time capsule, but have the network running on the slow Airport express... Please help!!! And I believe as you guessed already, I am not a smarty, when it comes to networks.
    HELP! Please!!

I actually have mine set up this way that you are looking to do. Works well for me. here si what you can try:
Make sure you unplug the Express all together first. It does interfere when trying to set this up. Next setup your TC just like the instruction says (remember no Express). You should just be able to set up your TC, connect to the internet and get going like any other router or like the Airport Extreme. if you set up your TC with your comp and CANNOT access the internet that is your first problem. My suggestion: do a hard reset of the TC if you have already attached it to the Express while also doing a hard reset of the Express - this is to bring them both back to afctory defaults to start fresh. This definitaely helped me.
So once you have your TC up and running and you have internet access thru your TC, you are halfway there. Make sure your TC shows in the left column of the Airport Utility (and dont forget to install the Airport Utility from the disc that comes with teh TC before you do any of this, forgot that). if it shows up in the left column you should also be able to see the Express in that column, both with green lights, if you have set this up correctly. Then plug in the Express. As the above mentioned remember t make sure it is connected to the correct port on that back of the TC. It will remain amber then blink a few times. This is normal. It should be blinking amber when you attempt the setup of the Express. Your airport utility shoul dnow see the addt base station (Express) in the left column. When you click on it and click CONTINUE it will ask you if you want to switch networks. You can do that and lick switch provided you are already connected to the TC and alrady have an internet connection. Once you click switch the TC will disappear from the left column and you will be left only with the Express. This is OK. I am not in fron to fm y comp right now so I am doing this from memory but in setting up the Express you want to add it to your existing network. You will have to choose which network to add it to in a drop down box in one of those steps - just make sure you add it to the one that you named your TC. Then click to the finish and click UPDATE. Let it finish the update - you shoul dsee green light son both the TC and Extreme HARDWARE - not necessarily in the airport utility. Also it is a good idea to to to the menu bar on top where the WiFi icon is and manually select your network in case you get bumped off while the TC is updating itself after you ckicl update - this happened ot me and it wouldnt complete the update and took me forever to figure out it needs internet connection to complete the update screen.
next make sure you RESTART your comp. This I guess will make all changes basically go into effect as you cycle it up. When you are up and running you should see your WiFi connect as your TC and NOT your Express. Also go back into airport utility and see if you ahve both items listed in left column - they too should have a greenlight. If they do you should be set.
I did this because I wanted to steam my iTunes files that I have on my TC to stream to iTunes via my network. The Express part, as you know, is what allows the streaming. So make sure you plug your stereo cable into the Express audio port. Then go to iTunes and on the bottom you will notice a new little drop down box - make sure to select Express so it can wireless stream (in iTunes prefs there is a pref you must turn on also to allow iTunes to see remote speakers.
Ive simplified this a little since I am not at home but this is the gist. In a prefect worl you should be able to easily have this work. I did so I know it does at least work if not anything else. You just have to make sure you get the steps correct and have everyhing plugge din where they should be...
    G'luck

  • HT1178 how to use time capsule with bt homehub 3

I am awaiting a new Time Capsule 3TB to replace an existing 1TB TC, now too small for my needs. In my current setup, I have a British Telecom BT Homehub 3 for my internet connection and wireless provision. The TC connects to the wireless network, and used as a Time Machine.
I was considering using the new TC to provide the wireless network and somehow turn off the home hub's wireless output.
    Is that possible?
    Is it a good idea?

    Is that possible?
    Is it a good idea?
    Yes, and Yes. .
But you don't even have to turn off the HH3 wireless.. leave it going as a guest network because there is one issue in this setup .. no guest.
Simply plug the WAN port of TC into the HH3 with ethernet..
Set up the TC to bridge mode.
This is router bridge not wireless bridge btw.
Setup wireless now as you prefer.. but I recommend you stick to standards rather than Apple defaults.. so all names are short, no spaces and pure alphanumeric.

  • How to set time capsule as a device in finder

Im trying to download some video and photos from my time cpsule. the problem is that I dont see it as a device in finder. I mnaged somehow to see it once and then i upload some photos but now I can not view them. I can do backup without any problem. I just need to find out how to get it as a device in finder.

You will not see the Time Capsule as a Device in the Finder.
Open Finder or Macintosh HD and look for the Time Capsule icon under the SHARED heading on the left side of the window.
Click on the Time Capsule icon and a folder representing the Time Capsule disk will appear to the right.
Double click the folder to mount the Time Capsule drive on the desktop.  You can drag/drop or copy/paste to the drive.

  • Time capsule with new network

I have just bought a 4G router how do I change my time capsule to this new network from the old network?

It is usually necessary to reset a TC to factory to allow it to connect to a new network.
Does your 4G router have an ethernet port.. i really really hope it does.. if not return it and get one that is ethernet enabled.. the TC will simply plug in by ethernet and operate in bridge mode.
No ethernet .. then the TC becomes a dumb slow client device via wireless. You can do a join to wireless network.
    Instructions here.

And a very strong recommendation.. DON'T DO IT.

If you can connect temporarily to your Time Capsule with an Ethernet cable, AirPort Utility can probably see it and explain the problem.

  • How can a Time Capsule join the network offered by an Airport Express?

What I want is for any machine to still be able to access the internet.
and for any machine to still be able to access the time capsule.
So I want all machines connected to the same network. So isn't it possible
to make the Timecapsule available to all machines by joining the main network yet still be plugged into ethernet into my machine machine?
Computer is in living room hence need for TC to be closer and ethernet where as the internet connection is in the bedroom which is where the Airport Express is.
Currently no other machine except the one that's plugged into the Time Capsule's ethernet hub can see the Time Capsule wirelessly.

  • How do I transfer data from one time capsule to new time capsule when TC backs up an iMac and Power Book

How do I transfer data from one time capsule to new time capsule when TC backs up an iMac and MacBookPro

It is generally better to leave the old backups and start again.. unless there is something you particularly need.
But if you desperately want all the old backups you have to copy the sparse bundles.. this will take very long time as it must copy via the computer..

Take particular note of the initial comments.. ie before you read how to do it.. don't do it.

  • How do i transfer files from time capsule to new computer?

I recently lost my vintage Imac hard drive and to top it off, likely had a faulty OS. Good news is I have a time capsule, bad news is it is also suspected to have the faulty OS. The Imac is history and I currently have a macbook pro with Lion OS installed and now I want to retrieve all my files off the time capsule. I was told to simply "drag and drop" the files from time capsule to my new macbook. apparantly not so simple. I see the the drive in finder and a lonely folder which I am seemingly unable to do anything with. any suggestions?

Drag and drop is not the way to go. Run Migration Assistant, found in your Applications/Utilities folder on the Macbook Pro. Follow prompts to recover information from a Time Machine backup, and point it to the Time Capsule.
Note that the recovery will recreate your old user from the iMac. You will have already set up a user on the MBP, but the files will not go into your new user - they'll go into your old user. Once you log out, you'll see your old user appear as a login option.

  • How will the Time Capsule support IPv6 and coop with the new emerging security threats that will emerge due to the new technical possibilities that IPv6 provide?

How will the Time Capsule support IPv6 and coop with the new emerging security threats that will emerge due to the new technical possibilities that IPv6 provide?

    Cross your fingers and hope.
Obviously if there is any big or known threat Apple will send out a firmware fix.
But the TC is designed to be end user simple device. It has no firewall that is visible at any rate. I don't know that it truly doesn't have a firewall but it is not part of the end user controls.
IMO if you have major security concerns that go beyond end device firewall, which is where Apple do put most of the security, since firewall in the router is plainly not a stop to anybody deliberately downloading an infected file or website, and most end users.. do not want a firewall that prevents them using the web like a business does, where only certain ports are allowed. Everything else tough luck.. you are not allowed to use it. Then TC is unsuitable for you anyway.. buy a proper firewall appliance.

  • How big a Time Capsule do i need, I'm totally new to Mac!

Hi, how big a Time Capsule do I need in order for it to work as my backup? Let say if I bought an Imac with 2 TB HDD + 256 GB SSD and with that, bought a 2 TB Time Capsule for backup, would that be enough or would I need to buy a 3 TB Time Capsule? Thanx!

But if I buy the Imac I wrote about in my previous question (2 TB HDD + 256 GB SSD), would I then need to buy two, 2TB Time capsuls,
If you plan to fill up most of  the space on the iMac right from the start, then you might need more space. Few users ever use more than about 75-80% of the space on their computers. I was figuring you would fill up about 75% of the drive....around 1.5 TB or so.  3 TB backup would be about right.
If I buy 1 TB HDD + 256 GB SSD, then 2 TB Time Capsule will be enough, right?
    Correct.

  • How do i use my time capsule as a network to store files, etc.?

How do i use my time capsule as a network to store files, etc.?

There is no difference in setup..
Only trouble.. be warned this is quite problematic. With Mavericks even more so.
    See Q3 here.
    http://pondini.org/TM/Time_Capsule.html
Take particular note. The TC is not a NAS or file server.. it can be pressed into use as one.. but will suffer..
    1. Slow spin up of the disk and fast spin down. Causing streaming and library issues with itunes.
    2. iphoto is easily corrupted.. don't move it to a network drive at all.
    3. no backup.. the TC cannot back itself up.. it is designed as a backup target for Time Machine. but Time Machine cannot backup network drives.. and nor did apple build in a backup.. it was never needed. After all it is a backup.. not a file store.
    4. you cannot partition it. You will have issues with TM if you do store both data and TM backups on it.
    5. You can use USB drive plugged into the TC, and experience a new definition of pain and suffering.. well slow file transfer anyway.
    Good luck.

  • How to config Time capsule remote access with Motorola SVG1202 router?

I'm having difficulty trying to congif Time capsule remote acces. I have a router Motorola SVG1202 and Time capsule config to Bridge mode, when I change Time capsule config to "DHCP and NAT", an error of "Double NAT" happens. How to correct this? Tried to search what to do exactly but no luck, appreciate anyone support.

Method 3 will work if you have a modem/router or gateway device, as it appears that the SVG1202 is......with the Time Capsule in Bridge Mode.
The method 3 has some differences from my Airport Utility options (v6.3.2), please if there are any image of the screen options would be helpfull.
You will not be using AirPort Utility to set up port forwarding for the Time Capsule, so as long as you can get the Time Capsule back to Bridge Mode, you should not need any additional help on AirPort Utiltiy 6.3.2.
Basically, all the setup will be on the Motorola device.
The first order of business is that you have a Static Internet IP address from your service provider. It is not practical to consider Method 3 unless you have this in place.
Then, the Motorola must be able to assign a fixed IP address to the Time Capsule on your network......probably something like 192.168.1.4.....for example only.
If the first two conditions can be met, the Motorola still needs to have the capability to set up Port Forwarding.  If it does, then you would set up Port 548 for both Private UDP and Private TCP.
Then set up a port number....example 8888.....for Public UDP and Public TCP.
Then, from your Mac, you would click the Finder Go menu and click Connect to Server
    Enter the following:
    afp://12.345.678.910:8888
The 12.345.679.910 is an example of the IP address that your provider furnished to you for your Internet connection with their service.
    Then, click Connect
