The latest TC has at min a 2TB hard drive.. and the airport utility in windows is not up to handling its setup.
What is the exact model number of your TC from its base?
Do you have the windows airport utility installed? If not please install it as it includes bonjour for windows.. that will help you setup the TC drive.
Then in windows explorer you can locate the drive by typing the address directly into the address bar..
\\TCname or \\TCipaddress (using the real name or IP obviously.. real name is network name btw.. so I recommend you keep the TC name short, no spaces and pure alphanumeric to comply with windows standards.)

The answer is “yes”. Two events have happened both of which concerned the Time Capsule:
The telephone company, with which I have access to the Internet and I have my email account, installed a new modum. After the technician left I had to try and get the Time Capsule and WiFi working again which ended with my having to call Apple for technical assistance. The Apple technician walked me through a number of procedural steps which effectively re-set up the Time Capsule.
Access to the Internet failed and the telephone company reset the modum. I had to call Apple again. This time the technician did not reset the Time Capsule but walked me through a number of steps tha included renaming the “site” (not the Time Capsule).
Another piece of information that may be relevant is that the MacBook Pro uses the Time Capsule for backup. Everything appears to be in order. When I enter the Time Capsule for this laptop I have backups going back for a long time.
Also, I do a weekly backup of the two computers onto another external hard drive using the Time Machine software. So I have another backup of both computers.

What is the range for the Time Capsule

It is not that simple.. are the walls hollow or solid concrete..?? it is not the thickness of the walls.. but the thickness of material and angle of penetration.. remember wierless is a dead straight line.. Tx to Rx.. so a 30deg angle through concrete is a lot more material than just 6" steel reinforcing is really bad.. at an angle it maybe hard for the wireless to see a gap.
Through standard plasterboard.. rockboard in US I think. walls, with no insulation.. about 15% signal drop on each.. the TC should work ok in standard size house over single floor at least at 2.4ghz .. but the speed will drop as you get further away. Difficult to say more.. that is why apple make the extreme and express and TC can all extend wireless from each other. But all this is only 2.4ghz.
5ghz you will be lucky to get signal through two walls.
2. Can I backup my data to my Time Capsule anywhere in the world using the Internet?
You can access the TC by using BTMM via iCloud in certain circumstances.. we would not recommend backups over internet.. the possiblity of corrupting the whole backup is too high. Just use a 2.5" portable drive.. ML can backup TM to different targets..
3. Can I use the Time Capsule to backup data on my iphone, ipad and ipod?
Not directly.. they do not work with TC.. they work with iTunes.. and you automatically backup to itunes locally or cloud.. then Time Machine backs up the iTunes.
You can access the file and store files on the TC if you use a file browser app. But this is not the intended method of operation of any of those devices.

Hi, my Iphone 4s is no longer picking up the signal from my time capsule, that was after i changed the ip address for the time capsule.

i use to connect my iphone 4s to my time capsule through wirless, for some reason, the time capsule IP address changed and i had to retern it the correct one. when i did this , my iphone stopped connecting to the time capsule wireless . how cn i return the connection to the iphone 4s?

Reset the TC.. use SMB names, short, no spaces pure alphanumeric for everything.
TC name, wireless name, hard disk share name.
Fix the radio channels.. try channel, 6, 11 maybe 1 although I have heard people have issues with 1.
It sounds like the TC is bridged.. make sure the main router dhcp has sufficient addresses available.
There are a few other things but try those and post again if you still have issues.

I'm hoping it can plug into my TC however my TC is wirelessly connected to my current home network... how can i get this to work?

If the TC is connected to a wireless network provided by another Apple router, then the TC extends the network by default, and the Ethernet ports are enabled on the TC.
If the TC is connected to a third party network wirelessly, then it must have been setup to "join" the wireless network. When the TC is set up this way, the TC becomes a wireless hard drive and nothing more. The Ethernet ports are not enabled when the TC "joins" a wireless network.
So, a logical first troubleshooting step would be to confirm "how" the TC is currently set up. To do that.....assuming that you are using a current or recent version of AirPort Utility on your Mac.......
Open AirPort Utility
Click on the TC icon, then click Edit in the smaller window
Click the Wireless tab at the top of the window
Check the setting for Network Mode and report on that

How do I find the MAC address for the time capsule?

I am trying to install 2T time capsule as my main router. Telus my internet supplier allows me to in install the MAC address for the static ip that I am going to use. But where is the MAC address on the cube or how do I get it?

On the bottom label it should list the MAC address.
If you happen to still run the original.. ie decent airport utility it has all that info right in front of you.
But you see that was before Apple reduced the airport utility to the status of a toy..
Pretty pictures no info.. think kid's book.

Enable Recycle Bin on mapped network drives

A few years ago I discovered how redirected user profile folders in Windows get Recycle Bin protection, even when the folders are redirected to a network location. This was a huge find for me, and I used this feature to add Recycle Bin coverage to some of

This is what I've learned (or think I've learned - I might be wrong):
Windows Vista and later store the configuration settings for the Recycle Bin for redirected user profile folders in this registry key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\BitBucket\KnownFolder
Under this key are separate keys for each redirected folder that is protected by the Recycle Bin. The keys contain the configuration information for each protected folder, and are named to match the GUIDs for "Known Folders." A list of the Known
Folder to GUID mappings is available in one of the links above.
The registry also contains a list of "known folders" at this location: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FolderDescriptions
So, I reasoned that if I could create my own custom "known folder," I could add that to the list of folders that were protected by the Recycle Bin and protect any mapped network drive I wanted. So I looked at the list of existing "known folders"
and created a key that was similar to the Documents key. I then fiddled with the values in the key until I narrowed it down to the minimum number needed to make the recycle bin work.
This .reg file will protect a mapped X: drive with a ~50GB recycle bin. You should modify the file to fit your needs:

A few things of note:
The GUID in the above .reg file {9147E464-33A6-48E2-A3C9-361EFD417DEF} came from this PowerShell command: "{"+[guid]::NewGUID().ToString().ToUpper()+"}"
Each "known folder"/Recycle Bin combination requires a unique GUID. If you don't want to use PowerShell to generate a GUID, you can use an online GUID generator.
I don't know what the "Category" value does, but the key I copied had it set to 4, and that works, so I didn't test any other values.
The "Name" value is required, but is not the name that will be shown if you right-click on the Recycle Bin and select properties. (At least not in my environment.) In my environment, the name that is shown is the name of the network drive.
Making this change adds a "Location" tab to the properties page of your mapped network drives. I suspect this could be removed by changing the "Category" value, but didn't bother to find out.
I only tested with mapped network drives. I suspect this would work with UNC paths as well, but I didn't bother testing.
I hope you're as excited to find this as I was to figure it out. Let me know if this works for you. I now plan to deploy the registry keys with Group Policy Preferences and will update this forum post with any information I discover.

Update: I am now using Group Policy Preferences to deploy the needed registry keys, and all my mapped network drives are now protected by the recycle bin.
Update 2: I have tested now with UNC paths, and this works fine. I still use mapped network drives, but if your environment requires UNC paths instead, you can use them. Note however that if you have a mapped network drive that points to a UNC path, and
you protect the UNC path with a registry change, if a user deletes a file from the mapped network drive that points to that UNC path, the file will be permanently deleted. See below for more details.

Error reading mapped network drive

Hi all,
We have recently upgraded our test server form 4.6C to ECC 6.0.
In one of the programs we are using open dataset to write files to
application server. This particular folder had been mapped through "Map Network
Drive function" in windows. The path we have given in the program
as "<Drive>:\<Folder>\File Name".

In 4.6C this particular format was reading without any problem. But
after the upgrade, system is throwing an error "File cannot be read".
We have checked the NTFS share rights and rights for the mapped drive.
It's "Everyone" full access.
Our OS: Windows 2003 server 64 bit
Database : MS SQL 2005 64 bit.
Most of HR related testing is based on this access. Pl suggest a
solution, so that we can go ahead with our testing and upgrade of other
servers.

Hello Adeeb,
You need to make sure the user the R/3 system is using to access the file system (usually SAPService<SID>) exists on the target (the mapped drive) system.
I know the folder is open to the all the users. But the user to access it will still be validated on the NT level to make sure this user exists.

Xmlparser.parse fails with ORA-20100 when reading from mapped network drive

I have a problem with the xmlparser when parsing an xml document from a mapped network drive. If I read the xml document from a local drive, then there is no problem.
I haven't been able to find any documentation specifying this. Is there any way to parse a file from a mapped network drive???
To clarify, I have created an example procedure, that parses an XML doc from disc, notice that the G: drive is a mapped drive:

I need to ask a last, hopefully ;-), question on upgrading the JDK to 1.3.1:
As far as I understand, this is how I do it:
1) Install JDK 1.3.1 on DB server
2) tell Oracle DB, to use that JDK.
Is this the correct way? And how is step 2 done?
Looked on metalink, google etc., but could only find this for 9iAS (not the DB) and Oracle Applications 11i.

Can i use the time capsule for storage or just backup?

I asked my husband to go and buy a separate harddrive so that we could use to store all of our photos on separately as opposed to the computer (as its full and we cant download any more photos!). He came back with the Time Capsule.
from what i can understand it can only be used for backups and not for direct stoarge - is this correct? Im hoping that i can use it for storage and somehow copy all my photos from my Mac onto the Time Capsule and then we can access them from the network which i just created with the Time Capsule
Or do i need to buy something else?

It is far from ideal. But it does depend on what you are doing. Are you going to store you iphoto library on the TC then it is not recommended.

This is asked several times a day.. obviously people are struggling with their latest SSD being too small.
The TC is not suitable for network file server.. but many people having no choice press it into service as such.
It cannot be partitioned. It was and is and ever shall be a backup device for Time Machine.
Major issues.
1. No backup.. no way Time Machine can backup a network drive. No place to backup to.. So all your files will be at risk. And you will need to buy a third party like CCC to do backup.
2. The TC cannot be partitioned and mixing TM backups and data is not great.
3. The drive is slow to spin up and quick to spin down.. there is no controls.
4. iPhoto in particular can easily corrupt its entire library with wireless networking causing a disconnection to one photo. Even if you do this;;; do not move your photo library... you have been warned!!
5. iTunes will constantly lose connection to the library. The disk is too slow to respond.. itunes on the computer will constantly spit out errors. Even in the midst of streaming the TC can spin down the disk due to caching.
6. Do not use any live files on the TC no matter what else you do.. if you edit files in whatever program the file must be on the local hard disk.
7. The only suitable location for most libraries is a computer. You can plug in an external hard disk.

Can I add a NAS via ethernet to the Time Capsule network?

"I'm a PC," but am sick of spending all my time with Windows/Network conflicts and am getting ready to take the plunge into the Mac world (insert applause here).
My router/switch is old, and I want "n" wireless capability, so my plan here is to go whole hog and buy a Macbook Pro, an iMac, and a brand new network infrastructure including the 2TB Time Capsule. This way I will stay completely within the Apple family.
I have a Netgear ReadyNAS 2TB that I would like to have available as a second back-up drive on the network. It can only be on the network via ethernet (LAN). It cannot be plugged into the Time Capsule's USB port.
Will I be able to add this drive and get Time Capsule (and even Time Machine) to "play nice" with it? Can I even set the Time Machine on each computer to back up to this drive?
Or should I just sell the ReadyNAS and get a USB drive that will work with the time capsule?
Finally, there are only 3 ethernet ports on the TC. Can I add a switch?

It's reasonable to expect your NAS drive to work when connected to your Time Capsule network. However, it will be difficult for you to use it for Time Machine backups. Apple only supports Time Machine network backups to the disk in a Time Capsule.
It's easy to have multiple computers backing up via Time Machine to the same Time Capsule.

That's up to you. Keep in mind that Apple still doesn't want you to use that USB drive for Time Machine backups.

Till now I only save photos, music and movies on my AirPort Time Capsule 2 TB. From now on I also want to use it for Time Machine Backups also. But I am not sure if it my data and the backup will exist in parallel.

You can drag and drop files to the Time Capsule using the Finder.
Open Macintosh HD or the Finder and look for the Time Capsule icon under the SHARED heading on the left side of window.
Click on the Time Capsule icon and a folder representing the drive will appear in the window to the right.
Double click the folder to mount the drive on the desktop.
