HT1190 Nord Modular g2 demo, MAC OS x 10.7.4

helo i have mac os x 10.7.4, i want to make nord modular g2 ( http://www.clavia.se/products/nordmodular/demo.htm ) work. but it says: the PowerPC architecture is no longer supported. can somebody help me?

The demo(v1.40) does require the older OS, but the software(v1.62) for the keyboard does work on the latest Mac OS.  I have a G2 and the software runs fine on my Macbook Pro running 10.7.4.  I also run Windows Vista 64 in parallels and the demo(v1.40) works fine there.
You can run the actual software(v1.62) without the keybard to look at the modules or some patches, but you won't be able to hear anything since it needs the keyboard for the sounds.

  • Best mac pro specification to handle large photoshop files

I'm about to buy a mac pro and want some advice on where I should be spending my money to get the best performance?
I use Photoshop to create large pieces of artwork (over 2m square) that contain approx 100 layers and require a 300dpi resolution for printing. File sizes are around 8bg before flattening.
I have tried using the standard demo mac pros available to handle files but with little success. I assume I need to boot up the ram (from Crucial) but how much should I consider, is it worth getting faster processor, separate hard drive for scratch disk, better graphics card etc?
Obviously all but with limited funds which are more important?
    Thanks in anticipation!

I would boot from a stripped array, a pair of 10K Raptor 300GB model.

Then upgrade to 16GB or 32GB of memory.

External RAID for scratch that could be 2, 4 or more drives, and another RAID for saving your work.
And with RAID, you want a couple backups for non-temp files of course.

  • Mac stalls during startup

My PowerBook currently stalls during startup (a dark grey apple on a light grey bground with a circling sun). I have tried holding down the C key as my Mac starts up and then clicking the hard disk icon and then the right arrow (my Mac just stalls on the grey apple again once I've done this). I have also tried Disk Utility and the Apple Hardware Test. Neither identifies any errors, except when I try to Repair disk permissions Disk Utility reports an Internal Error - 'Disk Utility has lost its connection with the Disk Management Tool and cannot continue'. I have tried restarting the process many times but I always get this same message.
The problem began when I attempted to export a QuickTime movie in QT Pro as an MPEG-4. I attempted to resave the MPEG-4 as a QT movie afterwards. QT then created a gastronomically huge .mov file when I attempted to do this. A file in the region of 32GB! (It should have been less than 1MB). My computer crashed after it told me my hard disk was almost full (there is now only 2.7GB free). This has happened to me before but normally what I can do is restart my Mac and then delete the offending .mov file, however this time I can't even get into my Mac to do this.
I don't want to format my hard disk as I did this only last week after a problem with OS Tiger that I subsequently deleted and reverted back to OS Panther. I have created a lot of work since then that I haven't backed up anywhere else.
If anyone has any ideas… I'd be v v grateful
    leo

Leo: The procedure you've been using to Repair Disk is exactly right. If you wanted to Repair Permissions, though, you'd have to be able to boot to your hard drive first. Because you're unable to boot to your HD, and yet you mentioned trying to Repair Permissions, I pointed out that under present circumstances that won't be possible. Sorry if my post was confusing.
IF your FireWire hard drive has a bootable OS on it — which you'd have to have installed on it or cloned from your internal drive — you can boot the PB to that drive. Connect the drive to the PB, turn the drive on, hold down the Option key, select the external drive as the startup voloume, and allow startup to complete. Assuming that the overly-full internal hard drive then mounts on the desktop normally, you should be able to open it up in the Finder, locate the monster file, trash it and empty the trash. This is all academic, though, if there's no bootable OS installed on the external drive — which you'll know is true if it doesn't appear as a selectable startup volume when you hold the Option key down at startup.
In that case, it might be wise to look for another Mac to which you could temporarily connect your PB in FireWire Target Disk Mode. You could then trash the monster file by accessing your PB hard drive from the host Mac. This could be accomplished in five minutes at an Apple dealership, using a demo Mac on the showroom floor, if you have no other options and can find a helpful dealer. I propose this option because I don't know where to suggest you look for a bootable CD that allows Finder access, unless you have the hardware, software, and knowhow to burn one. I don't believe I have one myself. I don't need one, because my backup hard drives are all bootable.

  • Safari 3.1.1 (Mac) doesn't clear my sessions

    Hi,
We are currently testing our client's website application.
We are trying to clear the cart upon closing the browser.
Below are the steps that we took:
    1. http://www.tcmercurius.com/en-chopsticks.php?secondary=5
    2. Click Details and Add to Cart. It will later display "You have 1 items in your cart."
    3. Close the browser.
    4. Open again the browser, and goto http://www.tcmercurius.com/en-chopsticks.php?secondary=5 The cart should be empty.
We tested the latest IE 7 (Windows), latest Firefox (Windows) and latest Safari (3.1.2 - Windows). Result: The cart is empty.
However, when we tested on Mac Safari 3.1.1 (demo mac on , there is item in the cart). Is this a software bug??
    Regards,
    Teh Theng Heng

Then that's why the session isn't ending
Safari is still running when you just close the window.
Any of the following will properly quit Safari:
    - Press command+q when in an active Safari window
    - Safari menu -> Quit
    - Right-click on the Safari icon in the Dock and choose 'Quit'

  • Resetting Macs to a fresh state every morning -- like the Apple Store

Just curious if anyone knew (or wants to guess) on how the Apple Store keeps all their demo Macs clean and fresh every day. I'd imagine at the end of the day, there's some sort of automated rewind or system refresh that sets everything back to a square one state.
Netboot is certainly one answer. Is Netboot particularly network intensive? Our IT guy thinks Netboot will put a constant strain on the network all day (I'd like to convince him otherwise if it doesn't). However, I'm not sure if the Apple Stores are using Netboot or not.
Is a server installing a fresh system image every night? Or how would a non-Netboot setup work?
I'd like to get a Mac lab to use one pristine master disk image (containing the system, 3rd party apps, plug-ins, prefs, fonts, user accounts, monitor settings, etc). At the end of every night, I'd like to reset all the Macs to square one.

How many machines would you be restoring at one time? We use netboot to image between 15-50 computers at a time with no noticeable network troubles.
Currently we use the Casper Imaging Suite to do this but before that we used ASR with a few third-party applications to streamline the process. Proton Pack Server is a great app for managing the multicast streams and Bombich's NetRestore, while no longer supported, to create netboot images and receive the ASR stream.

  • Sync Problems with ES1

    Hi,
I've been having a lot of hassle with syncing the ES1's LFO to the internal sync. The LFO seems to drift out of sync in relation to note-based events. It also seems to vary in its start-cycle depending on where in the timeline you start play (i.e. it's okay, though with a bit of drifting, if you play from the very start). (This last is alleviated by freezing, but it's a bit of a drag when you're writing).
Has anyone else had this problem. I've also had hassle syncing a Nord Modular to MIDI Clock (similar effects).
    Would appreciate any insights.

  • In Lion, sometimes clicking on close button or tabs doesn't respond as if the buttons aren't there, i have to move the cursor away and move back to make them work again, anyone can help me?

I'm not sure if anyone had run into this issue. Clicking the same place on the display sevral times will cause the click to stop working. For example, if i open safari and click on the Show Reading List button, it will work the first time i click it, but stop responding to my command as i click more, as if the button is not there, i have to move away the cursor and click somewhere else and move back to click the button to make it work again. And it happened everywhere, not just the show reading list button. The scrolling and moving are normal.
In fact, I have my trackpad replaced in an apple store for this issue but it turned out this is not a hardware problem, and it is not only my problem. Ironically, i found the same issue on several of the demo Macs inside the apple store. So anyone can help me here? Thanks.

Hi manni394, what version of Firefox are you running now?
Firefox 22 has a new way of setting the default zoom level: it is based on your Windows font size setting. So, if you set Windows fonts to 125% (enlarged 25%), your Firefox pages also will be enlarged 25%. On pages that do not adjust their layout, you may get a horizontal scroll bar.
To reduce the zoom on a page, hold Ctrl and tap the - key (the one on the numeric keypad or the one on the number row of the keyboard). The zoom should be reduced for each tap.
If you want to globally adjust your zoom level to be lower, you can use either of these add-ons:
    * [https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/default-fullzoom-level/ Default FullZoom Level]
    * [https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/nosquint/ NoSquint]
If you already have one of those add-ons, check the default/global zoom level in case it needs to be adjusted.

  • Preview vs. Quark-generated PDFs (hyperlinks)

    MacOSX 10.4.11, Quark 7.31
Any PDF created using Quark's "Export > Layout as PDF" opens in Preview.app, but hyperlinks are scrambled. A few work properly, most go to random destinations, and the rest don't work at all. The same PDF opened in Acrobat Reader works as expected. This is the only instance I'm aware of where Acrobat Reader works better than Preview.
Any thoughts? I'm not sure whether this is a Preview problem, a Quark problem, or some clash between the two.

I'm not sure I even understand the problem.
Is there any difference between image free Pages documents and documents with images?
Or is the difference only between pages within a document, where some pages have images and some not?
You write "Pages that do not have images render nice and clean". But you also write that you try to fix the problem by inserting white images. That would make them bad, wouldn't it?
Anyhow, if a page becomes better by adding a white image to it, could you then not simply create a template with a white image in it? Highlight the image and select Format > Advanced > Move object to Section Master.
It is a work around, but it may work.
If, on the other hand, I misunderstood that, and the images themselves cause the problem, is there anything particular with your images? Shadows? Reflections?
If you have any friend with Pages and he does not have the problem, you could check if his/her documents are fine on your Mac and vice versa.
If you live in the US or another place with good Mac support, you could even go to the nearest AppleStore and ask them to try it out on one of their demo macs, and see if they have the same problem.

  • Aperture in the Apple Store?

I went to Apple Store in the Mall Of America (Minnesota) today to play with Aperture on the 24" iMac and the MacPro, but found that they did not have it installed on any machines (the staff confirmed this).
Is it in any other stores right now?

The day the demo Mac Pro was first displayed in the store, I briefly played with Aperture on it, but the demo Mac Pro machines only sported 1 GB RAM, so paging was immediate, and couldn't show me any indication of better Aperture performance. I assumed they would get around to upgrading to at least 4GB RAM, as the previous G5 Quad display had, so I planned to check back.
A week or so later, I saw Aperture was now gone off the Mac Pro display models. I checked on the Mac Book Pros, and Aperture was still on there, so I initially guessed that it may have been removed due to the poor performance of the app with only 1 GB RAM on the Mac Pro, since all the Mac Pro display machines were still at 1 GB.
Still curious, I asked specifically, and was told the following:
Aperture was no longer on the disk load image that the stores are given to load onto the Mac Pro machines when it was discovered that the current version of Aperture did not operate correctly when installed using their retail stores' normal whole disk image method. He did not know the specifics of the Aperture problem, just that this removal had been done.
He said Aperture works on Mac Pro when installed as a user normally would, from DVD, serial#, etc. (obviously)
This was now a few weeks ago, so if others are reporting Aperture disappearing from retail store display machines other than the Mac Pro, I might assume Apple may have found other machines have problems with this Aperture install method as well.

  • Generation/Acquisition using multiple HSDIO PXI 6556 with bi-directional signals

    Hi,
I would like to run vectors to test some ICs using multiple (three) PXI6556 cards. The vectors have multiple (>20) bi-directional signals.
    Questions:
    1. The NI Examples library shows multiple-device generation and acquisition VIs. However, it seems the examples are on single direction signals. Could you show me some example on how to configure bi-directional signals?
    2. The pin mapping in the vectors are not in the same order as the HSDIO card pin mapping. Is there an easy way or any tool to help channel mapping? I have 10+ vectors with 90+ digital signals. Manually remapping them is quite tedious.
    3. Since we have three PXI6556 cards in the tester, is the "Multi-Device dynamic generation and acquisition" example VI the one to follow? Just to double check if there is any better way to do the configuration.
    Thank you for your help!
    Jing

    hello jcao,
I have adressed your questions individually below:
    1. bi-directional examples can be found in two locations Hardware Input and Output >> Modular Instruments >> Demos >> Dynamic Acquisition and Generation Demo.vi and Hardware Input and Output >> Modular Instruments >> Dynamic Acquisition and Generation >> Stimulus and Response Load from HWS File.vi . Both of these examples utilize the bi-directional functionality of our HSDIO cards.
    2. The easiest way to map the pins is to use the Digital Waveform Editor software. You can import a VCD (Value Change Dump) file and save it as a NI-HWS file to be imported and used in LabVIEW (the second example above will show you how to use the HWS file). A VCD file should allow you to specify a signal name and assign it to a particular line.
    3. The  "Multi-Device dynamic generation and acquisition" example VI is the best to follow for syncing across multiple HSDIO devices. The examples use TCLK which is the recomended syncing method. I have also provided a link explaining TClk a little more thoroughly.

  • Moving notes in Notation is reeeeaaally slow...

Before I trash and reinstall GB 09, I would like to find out if anyone else has this issue.
I write a lot in Score view. If I mess up on a note and try to move it, it takes several seconds for GB to do it. It's frustrating since a lot of time is spent re-re-correcting notes or waiting for the note to move. Since it happens regardless of what software instrument I use (even Grand Piano), I do think it's something with GB itself.
The interesting thing is usually when this happens, my MacBook Pro is running a "kernel_task" at the same time and they both chunk up CPU and memory. Unfortunately, it happens a LOT.
    Any ideas?

I was experiencing the same exact problem using a 2.0Ghz G5 iMac and it was driving me nuts. I loaded a couple of my songs onto a USB stick and went to Best Buy and the Apple store and loaded my songs into GB on their display iMacs. Presto! I was able to edit midi notes with absolutely no lag time on the iMacs in both stores. So... I replaced my 3-year old G5 iMac with a 24-inch 3.06GHz Intel Core 2 Duo iMac and the problem disappeared. Not the most cost effective solution, but the lag time on my old iMac was horribly slow and made it almost impossible to be productive, especially when you are in the moment of a creative spark.
You might want to try the same thing I did and load one of your songs into a demo Mac in a store and see if the problem still exists.

  • RFC 6598 on Campus Wireless behind CGN

    Hello,
RFC 6598 states that 100.64.0.0/10 network is reserved by IANA for shared addresses behind CGN.  http://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc6598
We are planning to deploy dual-stack with CGN to handle IPv4 traffic, particularly for our wireless network with approximately 48,000 concurrent stations.  Is it the best practice today to assign RFC 6598 to these stations instead of RFC 1918?
    Any suggestions would be appreciated!
    Jason

    Can't hurt.
Remember, the reported wireless "strength" is an amalgam of strength and quality (or lack of interference.)
A sudden drop in "strength" may actually be a more complete reflection of signal quality, often due to lots of interference in the area from other routers or other devices sharing the same frequency spectrum like cordless phones and microwave ovens.
Have the Apple Store techs run their tests, or if you don't have time, you could just check to see if your signal strength on their network matches that reported by their demo Macs.

  • Printing multiple page copies per sheet

I am trying to print 4 pages per sheet in Adobe Acrobat Pro 9. I understand how to choose "multiple pages per sheet" in the print dialogue box, but instead of printing pages "1,2,3,4" on sheet #1, I'd like to print 4 copies of page 1 on sheet #1 (i.e. 1,1,1,1), 4 copies of page 2 on sheet #2, etc. I've found this possible by typing pages "1,1,1,1,2,2,2,2..." in the print range box. However, I have a 233 page document and the dialogue box cannot handle that many characters. Is there another way I can do it? Thanks!
