You might try a different browser. I use Google Chrome - it works with my chromecast.

  • Will FCPX run on an 11" Macbook Air?

Will FCPX run on an 11" Macbook Air?

Well, call me foolish but I'm attempting to run FCP X on an 11-inch Mac Air attached to a Thunderbolt display with FCP X's Project and Event folders on a 4TB G-RAID Thunderbolt external drive. So far, it is not a good experience. Just to mount and scrub through a project already underway (a several-minute, 720p video with simple transitions) produces the dreaded spinning beach ball of death on a regular basis. I honestly don't know if my Air's 1.8 GHz CPU simply isn't robust enough to handle high definition video or if it's a Thunderbolt issue. My plan was to use the Air to work on simple projects when traveling. I can get everything loaded into the timeline and it will play for a minute or so, then it stops and the beach ball begins to spin. Several minutes later, things seem to break free and the show again plays, but soon stops again. I've got a feeling I'm asking the CPU to do too much -- but it's worth trying. I assumed that heavy duty rendering might stress the system but the struggle just to play back the timeline is a surprise.
Has anyone out there had success?

  • Will cs5 run on the new macbook air?

The new macbook air has no hard drive, but instead an internal 128gb flash drive attached directly to the motherboard. It uses the OSX platform. Will the air run cs5?
    Thanks!
    Andrew

    Andrew,
Sorry to be late in replying but I can assure you that CS5 is running great on the MacBook Air 11" with no issues.

  • Can Final Cut Pro 7 be run on the New MacBook Air

Can Final Cut Pro 7 be run on the New MacBook Air (just for looking at footage and assembling a rough cut) or is the graphics processing inadequate? Also wondering the same about Photoshop CS5 and Aperture 3.1.3.
    Thanks,
    Kevin

You can install on (1) Tower and (1) Laptop, as long as they are both used by you, and NOT at the same time.  This is for when you edit on your tower, but then need to edit at home, or on the road.  You cannot use one copy of FCP on multiple machines at the same time.  You need one copy for each machine you intend to use at the same time.

  • I'm running firefox on a Macbook Air 10.6.8, and the bookmark folders in the bookmarks drop down menu don't open when I mouse over them or click on them. How do I fix this?

I've run diagnostics on the mac air, reloaded firefox, and tried eerything I could think of. The 'show all bookmarks' page works perfectly- it's just the dropdown menu that has problems. All the folders have numerous items in them except for one- which only has two. That one works- the pop out menu for that folder comes out on the left side. All the arrows for the folders are on the right side (pointing right) of the of the drop down bookmark menu, pointing at the right edge of the computer screen. The dropdown menu appears on the right half of the screen, close to the edge. Strangely, my main computer is an iMac desktop, and my mozilla bookmarks dropdown menu folders open on top of the dropdown menu, not out on the side.

I figgered it out. The resolution of the screen was set at 600x800, so the bookmarks dropdown menu took up more space than usual. The pop out folder contents didn't have enough room to pop out. With a resolution for a slightly smaller display the drop down bookmarks menu functions perfectly.

If running Lion only Windows 7. You would need a first generation MBA to run an earlier version of Windows.

  • Crazy Question: Could you run FCS2 on a Macbook Air?

Looking at minimum system requirements for FCS2, and the specs on the macbook Air, I was wondering... would it be possible to run FCS on an Air? From a practicality perspective probably not the most sensible thing to do, but would it work? The only thing I see as an issue is the requirement for the AGP or PCI Express graphics card. The Air has no firewire port, but if you're editing offline media you cold be working off USB2 (I've used my 30GB iPod as an external HD in a couple of situations). No way to digitize material though, would there?
I have no plans to do this, just morbidly curios.

Mike pulls it apart pretty well but its all from a very elitist point of view ... not that I disagree with him per se, but if I were playing devils advocate ...
Processor: While that is faster than some of the G5s shipped a few years ago, and plenty fast enough to cut most formats, that is still pretty poky these days.
why add the caveat? the first part "plenty fast enough to cut most formats" says it all.
RAM: The default RAM config is 2GB - not bad... you can’t add any more. 4GB is my usual dead minimum
just because 4GB is a good recommendation its far from required. in fact FCP runs fine on even less than Apples own recommended minimum of 2GB. (of course "fine" in this context is subjective!)
*Hard drive/storage options:* If you were to install the full Final Cut Studio 2 suite, you’d have installed 55GB of goodies, leaving you with precious little room ...
if we're looking at a base FCS install not a full content install then theres plenty of room on the drive for the apps only. the real issue is media storage, and oh my goodness, I remember getting my first 15GB drive (got two of them, cost me an arm and a leg) and I thought I had all the storage I'd ever need. of course this does present the issue of less than perfect performance with media, apps and OS all on the same drive ... but performance is relative if you're looking for an offline / low data rate edit system it will be fine. (we're not looking at this as a "primary" edit system right?)
GPU: This is a serious limitation ... But for some simple editing, this is survivable
    No contest on this one
    FireWire? :No FireWire, anywhere.
Bummer ... although many newer cameras connect via USB
*USB 2.0*: you could attach a USB 2.0 drive for additional storage, right?
Yes you could, so once again, no need for the further (dis)qualifications. You could also import from one of them swanky new Sony EX1's, or from Sony's U1 XDCAM drive Pretty nifty. The MB Air should be able to handle cutting with these low datarate codecs without any problem...or if you're into hoops then you could use it as a field unit to cut with the low res proxies from these cams.
Expansion?: Powerbooks had the older slot that gave them P2 compatibility. MacBook Pros have the newer slot, compatible with the newer SxS cards used with Sony’s very promising XDCAM EX camera, the EX1. This Mac has neither option - again, no way to import footage.
    See *USB 2.0*
Battery: ...You MUST plug into a wall to recharge...
90% of field work is done plugged into a socket, in a hotel room or maybe in the back of a car running from the cigarette lighter
    Ethernet and 3G
    mostly irrelevant

  • Can I migrate an old MacBook (2008) running Lion to new MacBook Air running Yosemite?

    Hey all,
I'm planning on helping my aunt migrate her trusted old 2008 MacBook (white, non-alu) running OSX Lion 10.7.5 to a brand new MacBook Air running Yosemite.
Is such a migration between the mentioned two versions possible? Or is Lion 10.7.5 too dated for a successful migration to Yosemite?
I hope someone can provide an answer - I would like things to go smoothly for her.
    Lemme know

  • Running Adobe products on Macbook Air

    Hello,
I am currently looking into purchasing a Macbook laptop which will be used for my home business as a Graphic Designer, primarily using Photoshop, Illustrator, Indesign and Dreamweaver, which I will be getting through Adobe's new Creative Cloud. I am a long time PC/Unix user and somewhat new to the Mac world, so pardon my ignorance.
I was strongly considering buying the new Macbook Pro Retina, however with such a big price tag, I decided to explore my options more and upon closer inspection I see that the technical specifications between the Retina and the Air do not appear to be drastically different? The main differences seem to be that the retina has
-NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M with 1GB of GDDR5 memory and automatic graphics switching)
    and supports higher resolutions.
Portability is a big factor to me, the Air and the Retina have a nice weight, that is why I am less interested in the older Macbook Pros.
I am just wondering if there are any Graphic Designers out there who are doing their work on Macbook Airs? Have you encountered any problems? If so, what?
The difference in cost is quite a lot, this whole term of Macbook Pro is confusing me a bit, when I look at what is under the hood.
Any info, answers or advice is greatly appreciated.
    Thank you.

I am a lot further after watching some videos on YouTube. Thanks for the hint.
But there are still some open questions which I could not fins an answer to.
For example if I can access my files from both of the operate systems.
When I run Windows do I have access f..e. to the photos on the Mac Partition? If this is not possible is there a solution of making a common partiion for files which are used on both systems?
For me it's an attempt using the Mac OS. Without the background of my Windows system I wouldn't try it.
There are too many programs I have to use which are not Mac compatible. But I am courious finding out about the Mac System as well to know what people talking about. With this having both systems on my machine I would be able to learn to know Mac without being without Windows.
I think I will definatley wait until the new MacBooks are coming out with stronger processors as I think for a dual system I can't have enough ower.
    Thanks for your help.

  • Issues with Messages: Unable to Send or Receive on MacBook Air

    Greetings,
My girlfriend recently purchased a 11.6-inch MacBook Air (1.4GHz Dual-core Intel Core i5) and is running OS X 10.10.1. Messages will not send or receive any messages (including SMS and MSM through the iOS/OS integration).
She has tried all of the steps before mentioned (from logging out of iMessage to reformatting the hard drive and reinstalling OS X). Nothing has worked.
    Any suggestions?

    HI,
Sorry about the delay (Christmas Party)
In that case check the following:-  (follow each of these for with a Restart of the app)
That the System Preferences > Date and Time are set including the Automatic Time Server an Time Zone setting.
That the System Preferences > Network > Advanced Button >DNS tab lists at least two servers that are not the same IP as the "router IP" shown in the TCP/IP tab.  Use Public ones if required http://pcsupport.about.com/od/tipstricks/a/free-public-dns-servers.htm
If the Messages App > Preferences > Accounts shows the Apple ID that is in use, the "Receive At"  options and any "Start Conversations From" drop down and that the iMessages account is Enabled then click the Details Button (she will be required to sign in here)
Check the Country Code is correct for her location. (it lists the country or region which add a Country Code to the listed iPhone Numbers in the Contacts app unless they already exists like out of country ones already would).
In the Contacts App check the My Card (Card Menu) is the correct details.
In Applications/Utilities open the Keychain Access app.
With Login set top left and Passwords lower left find the item ids: message-protection-public-data-registered and delete it.

  • Does the adobe cc run good on the macbook air?

    Hi there!
I want to buy a macbook but i have no idea wich one to choose. I want to run adobe cc on it and im not sure if the air will be good enough. But the pro isn't that cheap, so that' the reason i want to ask about the air. Is it good enough to run adobe cc?

Requirements for Adobe CC for Macinntosh >  Adobe Photoshop CC for Mac, Windows, PC - Tech specs
Either the new 11" or 13" MBAir would work for you but if you can, the more RAM you have installed, the more stable your Mac will run.
As an example, you can order 8GB's of RAM instead of 4GB's >  http://store.apple.com/us/buy-mac/macbook-air?product=MD711LL/B&step=config
For working with graphics, if it were me, I'd buy the 13" air. The more display area the better.
    Beyond that, the 21" iMac >  http://store.apple.com/us/mac/family/imac

  • Problems running Etax 2014 on Macbook Air

    Hi,
I have installed the ATOs etas 2014 program to my macbook air. The ATO site says it is compatible and I have followed all instructions to install the program although when I go to run the icon, it continuously opens in the default installer window and prompts me to install the program again. I have since upgraded to Mavericks OS 10.4.9 and ensured I am connected to the internet thinking this would troubleshoot the problem but have been unsuccessful. I used the 2013 etax program last year without any issues.
Has anyone been able to successfully run the ATOs 2014 etax program.

    Hi,
    - Suggest that you Move to Trash /Applications/etax2014.app
    - and retry the install again from a fresh downloaded: https://www.ato.gov.au/misc/downloads/etaxswap/etax2014_1.dmg
    - Open the dmg, double click the pkg to install fresh
I installed it, Trashed it, reinstall and both times /Applications/etax2014  opened without issue.
    Hope this helps

  • Running Win7 on my Macbook Air Smoothly...but how do I load a program using another Mac's dvd drive?

    Hi,
Any ideas on how to get dvd sharing running between two macs when your goal is to get the program loaded onto a macbook air running win7? I can't find an equivalent to the mac-mac disc sharing that I have on the OSX partition.
    Thanks,
    Hanz

i wish that was the answer....it only works if you are running OSX and targeting another OSX drive, or running OSX targeting a PC drive.
My macbook air is running win7, so I am interested in running Win7 and targeting an OSX drive. Unfortunately, remote disc does not run on windows.
Does anyone have a solution to this problem?
    Thanks

  • HT1199 Hi. I've got an issue with Pages running on Mavericks on Macbook air. Every time I open the app it hangs right there and I can't do anything on it. I've uninstall and install it back again but the issue still persists. Any help please?

HI. I've got an issue with Pages running on Mavericks. Everytime I open it up it just hangs right there and I can't do anything with it. I've deleted the app and installed it back again but the problem sitll persists. Any help please?

Thank you so much for helping,
But i really wonder how you did that. did you always switch between design view and preview view, then change the key position for 2px then switch back, to align the four letters? because i imagine that can get really frustrating, if you have a logo consisting of 58 parts instead of 4!:)
Anyway thank you very much for your time and effort!!!!
