HT1199 My 2007 Black Macbook was running snow leopard my iPhoto would not open saying that It needed to be updated. I tried to but I couldn't because the version 11 is incompatible with snow leopard. I upgraded my software to lion, iPhoto still won't open
Does anyone know how to solve these iphoto problems?
Terrance thank you so much for responding. I was able to finally get my photo library to open by resetting the permissions then completing an upgrade. I accomplished this by reading through a number of posts here by you and others. Therefore I extend my thanks to you and everyone in the support network.

I am trying to transfer contents from old macbook running os 10.7.5 to a macbook air running os 10.9.1 using migration assistant but the destination macobook air says that migration cannot proceed (yellow triangle) because the os on the macbook is not up to date (assuming that eans 10.9.1). However old macbook cannot be updated to 10.9.1.

About a year ago, I purchased FItness Hd for the iPad. Yesterday, it showed up in the app badge as needing to be updated. I clicked it and now it keeps telling me that this app is no longer available for purchase. When I look into the app store, the same app is now for sale 2.99 under a different company. I have tried to delete and reinstall the app thinking it will clear out the badge on the app icon stating that I have one update. This is frustrating. Somehow, this company was sold and my old app/software is causing a conflict with the App store. Help???

My frustration is that this old app has now caused a glitch in my Apple App Store icon. I have a red badge with one update and it is referring to the old app that has been sold that needs to be updated. When I try to update the app it says no longer available for purchase. So I have since deleted that app in hopes that it would resolve the red badge issue. It has not. Somehow, that old app and the new app with the same name but by a different company has caused the glitch. I have reset all settings on my iPad, I have rebooted, I have deleted the app and still the red badge with the one update for the old app is there. Hmmm. . . I guess I need to take this into the Genius bar or wait for ios 7 in hopes that it will fix the glitch. Thanks again for your help.

Many apps I would like to download were out of reach because they needed the latest software download to work. I was extrememly excited to hear that the newest update was completely free and knew that it would help some of my problems. I was told that Mavericks could be installed straight from Snow Leopard, but I'm guessing a few updates have been missed on the way? How am I supposed to update my apps like Photo Booth when I am a student with low income and can't afford to buy things like Mountain Lion?
Is there anyway to update my apps without downsizing my software???First, I see from the screenshot that you have applications on your desktop - how did they wind up there? Any app should be installed in the Applications folder since that is where Software Update expects them to be when it searches for updates. So you might want to move your apps there. Do that, restart, and run Software Update again. If that does not update your very old version of Photo Booth, then I have only one suggestion: use recovery (hold down Command + R keys while restarting or rebooting) to re-download and install Mavericks again over the top of what you have.

I encounter a problem that is increasingly recurring, at the opening of a PDS Photoshop CC.
After working on a file and then close Register one, he can not open and displays a incompatibility message me with the same software that I was used to create it.
I work on a PC with Photoshop CC, but the same problem has occurred on a Mac with Photoshop CS5.
Yet I shall endeavor to select "maximize compatibility" every time the question is asked me.
Anyone know it and the problem (we can always dream) how to recover the files in question?Thanks for you help.
First i was trying to save on a shared cloud. Later, i save my files on an internal hard drive and then copy them on the cloud, but when i, or the persons that access the folder on the cloud, try to re-open the file there, the problem is coming back. -
IPhoto says that it needs to upgrade my thumbnails
I have iPhoto 09 & today it says that it needs to upgrade my thumbnails & that this "might take a while" based on how many photos I have. In the meantime, the file for iPhoto shows 512GB of photos, but iPhoto itself shows NOTHING. Is this because it's "upgrading"? Any idea how long it might possibly take? Am I in trouble?
Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

It also says view updates, so select that option and see what it wants to update.

notes : on snow leopard the face time was work normally but i delete it the app i thought it will work after i reinstall itLion comes with FaceTime. Look in your dock or in the Applications folder.

Assume you haven't filled up your new hard drive, so it should have plenty of space. You didn't say what you're running when it lags, however, hard to connect new hard drive to causing processor lags. See this FAQ on OS X performance to see what can help.

Hello, is there any way of having a reboot disk for lion that I'm downloading, like the one I have with snow leopard ?
Once the Lion download is complete quit the installer and follow these directions. The file you need to make a boot disk disappears after you install Lion.

However, the Lion installation includes a recovery partition. It won't be of help if your entire HD dies but is very handy otherwise. This Knowledge Base article has a lot of good information about Lion's recovery partition.

Wanting to clean install LION, I formated the HDD and cleaned up the recovery partition by fusioning the two partitions!
I had to install LION with the use of a friends account.
This doesn't suit me because if I need something i'm depending of that friend.
Since LION is gone from the APP STORE (at least i'm not able to find it) i'd like to know how can I get it in a legal way to be able, if needed, to do a fresh install of Lion?

Where can I get Window's software for my Macbook Pro? I'm trying to run ARCview. However, it requires Windows. I'm trying Bootcamp. but, it isn't recognising the disk that I currently have.
Maybe because it's not a 'genuine' retail version? Many OEM versions just don't work - and I've no idea which flavor of Win7 your friend downloaded. Obviously one that Boot Camp doesn't recognize. Best to just pony up the cash for a full retail version, of some flavor - and use it. You COULD, of course, download the 14-day trial version of Parallels Desktop and see if you can install Win7 as a virtual machine... it might or might not work. Boot Camp just isn't finding the resources it needs on the copy you have - try Parallels and if that doesn't work just purchase a retail (or student discounted) version.
