I have held off updated my iPhone 4s with the 6.0.1 but having problems connecting to wifi I thought maybe being out of date was the problem.
Having done the update the wifi option is now greyed out and cannot be selected at all. I have rebooted, forgotten networks and turned on and off so many times. There is nothing wrong with the wifi at home as other devices connect no problem. What can I do?I'll repeat the Apple support pages linked in the previous post:

iPhone 4S wifi button has greyed out, though I did resolved it through Restore from backup button in iTunes, but after upgrade to iOS 7.1 it has again become greyed out after 2 days of upgrade.
And I tried even restore with Firmware update, even this has not resolved. Guys any suggestion how to fix this.
Apple please help resolve this issue, as this is happening with me again, I had the same problem with my iPhone 3G and even at Apple store they couldnt resolve this. (This was 3 years back) and now again I am facing the issue with my iPhone 4S.Read and follow all the troubleshooting steps in the article from which this thread was posted.

Is Apple not worried about the older models or what? My iPod was perfectly fine up until the 4.3.5 update. Now, I've lost about three or four $4.99+ games that I can't redownload for free, a whole music album, and I can't use wi-fi or bluetooth. I can't send in my iPod to get it fixed if that's the problem because my warranty's expired. I can't even find out if there is a problem without buying a help session. What's going on? It's almost like I need to buy a brand new iPod, and I don't have $300 to spend because Apple decided that the new iPods are more important than the old ones. Is there anyway I can fix this without downgrading or buying a brand new $300 iTouch?
Resolution
If you encounter this issue, try the following steps and attempt to enable Wi-Fi or Bluetooth after each one.
Verify that Airplane Mode is turned off.
Update your iOS device to the latest version of iOS.
Reset Network Settings. To do this, tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings
Restore your iOS device in iTunes.
If you are still unable to turn Wi-Fi or Bluetooth on or off after attempting these steps, contact Apple or your wireless carrier for additional assistance. -
About a month ago my wifi switch greyed out. I went through all the trouble shooting and ended up going to the Genius Bar and got a new iPhone 4S. Now the switch greyed out on the new one.. help!

Please can someone help a total technophobe?!!! I have recently set up a new mail account and since I've done that my wifi button has greyed out. If those solutions don't work your iPhone 4s has probably developed a hardware problem. The permanent solution is to get it replaced.
You can search the internet for heating and freezing solutions that might work (at least for a while).

My iphone 4s has been freezing and turning itself off and on for a few weeks now. I have reset it to factory settings and reinstalled everything, have updated the operating system but nothing seems to work. It was having problems connecting to wifi and when I tried to access the settings it freezes and can't find any connections. I have just updated the phone to 7.1 and now the wifi option is completely greyed out.
Your battery may have completely run down. When you connect it to power, leave it. It can take even up to an hour to get enough charge to get it to a useable state.
Although, I believe even fully drained, you should see some kind of indication on the screen of charging in progress, but it's very dim. -

I guess I would call it the "Google.com" Web Site. It is the horizontal bar/box in the middle of the screen (not at the top). Whenever I would do a Google Search, whatever name I typed in that box would stay there until I manually deleted it. Now, nothing stays in that box. Can you figure out why?

restore your phone as new through itunes. if the issue persists after a factory restore via itunes, it means you've got a hardware issue and the phone needs to be repaired
