HT1202 One Device Synced to different info on two computers???

My music library is on my PC. My apps, contacts and calendar are on my work laptop. My ipad is synced to my work laptop. I want to add all of my music to my ipad. I connected my ipad to PC, made sure everything I don't want to sync is unchecked, and then checked my music library, but when I went to sync it warned me that anything on my ipad not from the PC will be erased.
If everything but my music is unchecked, will it still erase my contacts, calendar, etc?  Or will the set up I described above allow my ipad to keep all the stuff from my laptop and just add my music from my PC.
If the former, is there a way to do what I want?  (I don't want to put my music library on my laptop.) Also, I have a bunch of songs in my music library that I burned, so using the cloud isn't a good solution.
Thanks!!

According to the article, you can drag playlists onto the device as well. I copied this from the end of the first article.
When in manual mode, to add songs or playlists, drag them from iTunes to the device icon in the sidebar. To remove songs or playlists, select them on the device in iTunes and press the delete key. You can also create playlists directly on the device.
I have never done this myself but I am basing my answer on the reading from various kb articles and just putting 2 and 2 together, so to speak.
When you go to sync content with the other computer, you have to set that to manually manage songs and videos as well so that it does not unsync the music that you already have on the iPad. If you uncheck Sync Music with the actual syncing computer, that will erase the music on the iPad. If you check Manually Manage, then the music should not sync and it should be left alone. At least that is the way that I understand it to work.
There is another kb article with some more information in it that is linked from the first article. This article is very recent.

I would try it this way. Sync and backup your iPad with your normal syncing computer and then add the music manually from the other computer. When you go to sync again with the normal syncing computer, you shoud get an alert if iTunes wants to replace any content on the iPad so you can always cancel the sync if needed. The bottom line is that as long as you backup and sync with the syncing computer like you have been doing, you aren't in danger of losing anything.
Make sure that both computers are set to manually manage music.

  • How do I eliminate duplicated emails among my desktop, iphone, and ipad? They appear on all three devices and when deleted on one device they remain on the other two. So I have to go through all of my emails to delete on each device.

How do I eliminate receiving duplicated emails among my desktop, iphone, and ipad? After I read and delete on one device they still appear on the other two devices so I have to go through and delete them all again on each device.

It all depends on how your e-mail provider talks to the iPad. Some allow a lot of control, others not so much. My Yahoo works seamlessly between my Touch, iPad and computer. My hotmail, however, won't show up as 'read' on all devices, i have to open it on each one.
Some e-mails will allow you to tweak those settings and let your device alter what's on the server, others won't.
What e-mail program/provider are you dealing with?

  • Syncing problem between iphone and two computers. Transfer speed issue.

An issue that I've recently started having problems with is syncing my contacts and calendar into two computers and my iphone. I've recently pickup up a new macbook pro to use when out of the office but my mac at work is still my main computer.
The problem is the two computers get equal usage but they also each get their own random entries as well as the iphone which requires me to sync the two to my iphone a few times a week. The computer at work runs the sync fine and is my main computer with the music stored on it. The sync with that one runs in no time as long as their isn't any change with the music. The problem comes about when I try and sync with my laptop. I have the sync music option turned off and I always click merge info for my calendar and contacts (about 2000 entries for contacts). The sync with the laptop can sometimes take over 10 minutes and I can't figure out why as it only shows the sync in progress bar.
It's not like I'm changing much info, it's usually just the calendar so I can't figure out why it takes so long on a much newer computer.
Any info would be greatly welcomed.
    Thanks,
    Robert

One thing that might help out.
Create a new login account on the new computer.
Open address book and enter a test or real contact.
open itunes and go through the initial setup.
Connect the iphone and try syncing just contacts.
    Allow the contacts to merge.
If this takes the same amount of time, then it is a system wide issue and you might need to reset isync.
If the sync only takes a short time like on the work computer, then it might be with the data or a program you have running in your user account when you login.
If you need to reset isync or sync services, here are a few articles that might help out.
One article is for osx 10.4.x and the other is for 10.5.x

Make sure you use the correct article if you decide to reset sync services!!!!
    Hope this helps.

  • Sync collection to mobile from two computers

I have Lightroom installed on two computers and would like to be able to sync both of them with my ipad. However, when I sync a collection from one, it deletes all collections that were synced from the other computer. Does anyone know how I can get it to allow me to sync collections from both computers at the same time?

    You can't do it.
The restriction is that you can only sync from one catalogue, and I think it tells you so if you try to do what you describe. Obviously it would be good to have more flexibility, and one day it might come, but just imagine the complications (two identically-named collections in different catalogues but with different pictures).

  • How do I sync the same library between two computers?

I have an iMac and a Macbook Air, and I am constantly buying music betwen the two computers, and my iPhone. I want to be able to sync up my iPhone on both computers, but it keeps telling me I have to resync my entire phone, which is just crazy. How can I sync up itunes? I have .mac to sync my contacts, mail, etc.

I have an iMac and a Macbook Air, and I am constantly buying music betwen the two computers
Constantly? The MacBook Air is brand new.
Even if you sync iTunes between two computers With something like this -> syncOtunes, you will still get this message if you sync to the other computer. The libraries may be have the same music but they are not the same library.

  • One again, "can I use CC on two computers at the same time?" - in practice.

I know this has been asked before and all those threads are locked. Many asked the question, but I haven't found a satisfying answer yet.
Can I multi task with CC?
I want to have my laptop next to my desktop. And while I render, export or whatever my newly shot documentary on the laptop I want to work with a music video project on my desktop. Then when the render is finished I render the music video and go back to the laptop and continue on the documentary. Or maybe I just work 5 minutes on the desktop music video, then come up with something brilliant for the project on the laptop and switch. Back and forth. Will that kind of activity result in any kind of limitation, usage-wise?
So, working on Premiere on my two computers at the same time.. is it possible? Technically? I know the EULA says "only one person". But will it let one person mutli task?
I need to know this before I buy. sorry for asking this again, please bless me with a clear answer

    Hi Jimmy Crim,
Yes in case of Creative cloud subscription you are allowed to install and use the cc apps in any two machines.
Even if you want you care allowed to use these apps together in both the machines.
    Thanks

  • Can I download music onto one device from 2 different accounts?

I have recently downloaded all my music from one account onto my ipod, but I also want my other music which is on a different account. The other account is for my iphone and want to keep the 2 seperate accounts. If I log out of the account I'm currently on, will it remove all of the music I have just downloaded?
I'm doing all of this on the devices, not using a computer.

No, but you may find that you need to wait 90 days or contact the iTunes Store staff before being able to do it.

  • How can I apply a backup of one device to a different device?

    Hello,
This past week, my phone "fell" and the screen broke beyond all repair. And I'm not talking about a crack...I'm talking about a huge crack as well blue lines being displayed whenever I hit the home button. Other than that, the phone still works. It charges, it syncs, it vibrates when I get calls or messages but I can't see anything on the screen. I know that I can still unlock though. I managed to backup my pictures directly onto my Mac using iPhoto. Besides my pictures and Calendar dates, there wasn't much that I cared for within the actual phone.
I went to my local phone service provider place and they told me that since my phone was a 4S and was covered for damage, I could send it to Apple in exchange for a new phone. I already contacted them and received my new 5C. Now, I'm not really worried about the pictures because they're already in my computer; I'm worried about all the Calendar dates that are in my broken 4S. Yes, I did do a backup AFTER it fell so I have a backup ready. But the thing is that I do not wish to sync this onto my new 5C just for the calendar dates.
I have an old iPod 4th Generation that I'm willing to use to restore with the backup of my 4S but I don't know how to do that. I was hoping that I could apply the backup of my 4S onto my iPod and then manually enter all the dates that I needed onto my 5C
If anyone knows how I can access these dates in any way, shape, or form, it would be greatly appreciated.
Oh and I don't think I ever used iCloud for my calendar so that's just a huge setback, huh?

Yes, you can restore the iPod Touch from the iPhone backup, provided the iPod Touch's iOS is the same or better than that of the iOS that was on the iPhone.  Example: If you had your iPhone updated to iOS 7.1.1 when you backed it up, your iPod Touch will need iOS 7.1.1   Currently only the 5th Gen iPod Touches can receive this version of iOS.  4th Gen and prior cannot update to iOS 7.
The following article shows limitations when going from iPhone/iPod Touch to iPad or vice versa.  The iPhone and iPod Touch are essentially identical with the minor exception of the phone app.  They still have all the contacts apps, etc.
    iTunes: About iOS backups
Only app data from App Store apps and sync settings will be restored to your device when you do the following:
Restore your iPad from an iPhone or iPod touch backup.
Restore your iPhone or iPod touch from an iPad backup.

  • Sync various profiles with different preferences across two computers with one account

For security reasons I added a second firefox profile on my machine for banking, taxes etc with very restrictive permissions.
I set up sync with the new profile and another name in sync preferences (first sync names were 'hostname', I called the new 'hostname'_bank.
Now different settings get mixed up. In my user profile I find settings from my bank-profile, and with my bank-profile user-preferences show up, which is quite annoying.
Any suggestions (except using different accounts)?

Don't sync '''''Preferences''''' in that "bank" Profile.

We have 2 iphones synced to 2 different accounts and 2 different pc's.  as we work together we would like to merge the calendars so that we can each see the others committments, meetings etc for the day.  is there any way we can do this without losing current content and syncing the others contacts?

  • Can you sync and iPhone 3GS with two computers?

    Hi all,
I have itunes on 2 different computers - one on a desktop which is the home's media pc and has all the music and films on it.
I also have it on my laptop and this is the machine my iPhone currently syncs with as it hold my contacts, calendar, apps, ringtones etc.
Is there any way that I can put some of my music on my iPhone without physically having to copy the tracks to the hard drive of my laptop?
I've tried this (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1202) and it doesn't seem to work.
    Any help greatly appreciated.

It doesn't work, as that article says:
"iPod shuffle and iPhone are intended for use with a single computer. You cannot load music from multiple computers or iTunes libraries onto iPod shuffle and iPhone like you can with other devices."
There is no way to put media content from more than one computer onto an iPhone. You will indeed need to get all the tracks onto whichever computer you wish to have be your primary connection to your iPhone.
    Regards.

  • Sync single iPhoto library between two computers

My wife and I have different computers and, therefore, separate iPhoto libraries. I know I can use Iphoto Library Manager to consolidate the two libraries, but is there a way anyone can think of where the two of us can each have a full copy of the library, and have all modifications to the "common" library AUTOMATICALLY sync? I know we could share the library and manually copy the photos from one to the other library, but this would be tedious and completely defeat the purpose of Apple's "It just works" mind-set.
Or am I asking too much?
What if there were a way to flag photos in the common library as "Mine" and not "Ours"? That way my wife wouldn't have to "suffer" through my Sci-Fi wallpaper collection and Dr. Who posters. Likewise I would not need to see the photos for school assignments, etc... that she needs available, but we still both have common I/O access to the "common" family photos?
That may be asking to much...

No there's no way to automatically sync two Libraries, and trying to do so will trash one or both of them because no syncing software can parse the iPhoto Library database.
Yes you could have a common Library and keep each other's content separate. Simply keyword the pics 'His' and 'Hers' and use a simple Smart Album to separate them out. You can even - based on those tags - make two master Events - one for her pics and one for his.
    Regards
