HT1203 how to sync a new ipod on a computer, with one already on it

I just got a new ipod a week ago. Now i want to add music on it, using the music on my computer. My brother already has an ipod synced to itunes. How do i add music to my ipod using the computer without erasing my brothers ipod files.

There's a few different ways of managing things. The following document is worth checking through:

  • How do I sync my new ipod to my itunes which is already synced to my old ipod?

I just got a new ipod touch which is 64GB. I have an old ipod touch from 2007. I had no trouble hooking up my new ipod but it wont sync my songs and everything else. Even when I hit sync it wouldn't sync at all. It just wanted to sync old settings from my 2007 ipod.

Try restoring the new iPod from the backup of the old iPod.
Is the new iPod signed into the same iTunes account that purchased the music?

  • Installing a new iPod on a computer with another iPod already authorized

I already have one iPod authorized for this computer. My wife has a new ipod that is not getting recognized. Should I deauthize the computer to get her ipod recognized? Thanks!

No that shouldn't make a difference. Read this info from Apple. Using multiple iPods on one computer. I normally use four different iPods off my computer and only had to authorize the computer itself once.

  • Help syncing my new ipod - error message - please help

Hi I am needing advice and help.
I have a full library full of songs. I had always been able to sync my old ipod with all my library songs.
I have just purchased a new ipod and tried to plug in the new ipod to load all my library songs on to my new ipod, but only a few artists are getting loaded - only artists that start with a & b is going across. I get an error message when trying to sync the songs on to my new ipod.
The message I get 'attempting to copy to disk'new ipod' failed. An unknown error occured(-69)'
I am wondering step by step and in detail how I can make sure that all my songs from the library are on my new ipod. only a few artists are transferring across.
The thing is my old ipod when syncing is fine and all songs go across! no problem at all. I still have to charge the old ipod as its still in use and it is the same ipod that of my new ipod - the 30gb video 5th generation.
It is very fustrating as I have given my partner the other ipod so they still have full songs when they plug in to sync and when I plug in to sync I only get a & b only, we both use the same computer, same model ipod, same library and my ipod doesnt sync so i dont know why?
Please please help. I really need very detailed and step by step instructions of how to sync the new ipod and make sure all the songs of my library are on my new ipod.
I look forward to hearing from all you soon. Please help! - desperate!!!

  • How do I track an old (stolen) ipod touch if I already synced a new ipod touch with the old information without knowing it would not allow me to track my old ipod but my new one instead?

I lost my iPod touch (4th generation) over a week ago and did not think I installed the icloud on it. When I was setting up my new iPod touch (4th generation),
I saw that it automatically shows an option for icloud. That made me realize that I probably did install icloud in my old ipod. The problem is that I synced my old ipod with my new ipod on the computer. I thought if I didn't I would loose all of my old infomation. So now evertyime I use the app to find my iPod, it finds my new one. It shows only one device located under it. Is there a way I could find the old iPod? Or could I restore my new iPod and find the old one that way? I'm afraid if I restore it I would loose all my information from my old ipod.

That makes no difference in finding/tracking your lost/stolen device.
The old device will only show up in icloud.com if you previously turned on FIndMyiPod on the iPod in Settings>iCloud and wifi is on and connected go to iCloud: Find My iPhone, sign in and go to FIndMyiPhone. If the iPod has been restored it will never show up.
    - You can also wipe/erase the iPod and have the iPod play a sound via iCloud.
    - If not shown, then you will have to use the old fashioned way, like if you lost a wallet or purse.
    - Change the passwords for all accounts used on the iPod and report to police
    - There is no way to prevent someone from restoring the iPod (it erases it) using it.

  • Ok, when i try to sync my new ipod touch to my computer, it says unable to connect for unknown reasons, and as a benefit, it shows the songs as faded in the list and therefore unplayable. how do i fix this problem?

as stated in the title, i when i try to sync my new ipod touch to my computer it says its unable to connect due to unkown reasons. the music is listed on my touch as there, but faded (minus a selected few songs) and therefore are unplayable. i have no idea where to start, i figured downloading the newest itunes update, however, it no longer shows up when i start it up. confused.

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reboot the computer
    - Try another cable and USB port
    - Unsync all music and resync
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
    -  Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

  • HT2905 Many (most) of my songs in my library have multiplied. I now have doubles and triples of my music. I don't know why it has done this or how to fix this problem. This is a new problem since I synced a new ipod touch this week.

Many(most) of my songs in my library have multiplied. I now have doubles and triples of my music. This is a new problem that started this week when I synced my new ipod touch. Why did this happen and how do I get rid of it. I have around 1400 duplicates in my library now.

I suspect in this case the problem is caused by your library and device having downloaded independent copies of the media, so that when the library connects to the device it copies over your purchases not realizing they are already in the library.
When deduping use Shift > View > Show Exact Duplicate Items as this is normally a more useful selection. You need to manually select all but one of each group to remove. Sorting the list by Date Added may make it easier to select the appropriate tracks. If you have multiple entries in iTunes connected to the same file on the hard drive then don't send to the recycle bin. Use my DeDuper script if you're not sure, don't want to do it by hand, or want to preserve ratings, play counts and playlist membership. See this thread for background and please take note of the warning to backup your library before deduping.

  • How can i sync my new ipod touch to a mac ibook

I have an i new ipod touch and have a mac ibook g4 with an operating system of 10.4.11 and for some reason it won't let me sync my new ipod touch to my itunes. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Yo need to upgrade OSX to 10.5.8. The system requirements for the new 4G iPod Tough are:
    System requirements
    USB 2.0
    iTunes 10.1 or later6
Mac: Mac OS X v10.5.8 or later
PC: Windows 7, Windows Vista, or Windows XP Home or Professional (SP3) or later
Broadband Internet access required; fees may apply.
You can get it on eBay, maybe Craig's list and from the Apple store. However, it is not offered in the on-line Apple store so you will have to call. The price is $129.

  • How do I get new iPod to sync purchased content on existing library?

I recently bought a new iPod to replace an old one that was dying. I want to sync my existing library including my purchased content onto the new iPod and won't be using my old one anymore. Is there a way to do this? I got a message telling me some songs couldn't be sync'd because they were not authorized?

You should be able to dock the new iPod to iTunes & iTunes should do the rest. Since you are getting a "not authorized" message, have you simply tried to reauthorize any of the problem songs? iTunes seems to sporadically loose authorizations on random purchases for folks with no real explanation. Reauthorization should straighten things out. I know for me, I lost authorization on about 100 purchases on an iTunes upgrade & all I did was reauthorize one of the problem songs & the problem was resolved. Hope this helps.

  • How do I sync in my new itouch to a computer with existing ipod account?

    Hello!
How do I set up my new itouch to the same computer (PC) that has an existing ipod account. I would like to set it up as a different account for the reason this itouch is for my son. I would like to use 1 computer for 2 ipod & itouch systems. Is there "step by step" information that anyone could guide me to? I've looked a little, but haven't found anything useful. I've tried to do this myself, but when I hook up the new itouch, it takes me to "my" ipod account vs. taking me to "set up a new product".
    Thanks!

  • Syncing a new ipod to my existing itunes

I've just bought a new ipod as I lost my old one, and I need to sync it to my itunes. The last time I did this, I managed to erase the entire itunes library by mistake so had to set everything up again from scratch, so I want to avoid this happening again this time!
Can anyone tell me step by step how to connect my new ipod to my itunes without erasing any songs?
Also, is it possible to have two different ipods synced to to the same itunes?
    Thanks!

You should be able to just plug it in. itunes will see it is a different ipod serial number and take you through the setup.

i use windows and i got my hard disk replaced now when i try to sync wirelessly my ipod detects my computed as being a different one how can i make it forget the old one?

You will have to sync it to the new one, erasing the current content from the ipod and replacing it with the content from the new drive.
Make sure you have copied everything from your backup copy of your computer back to the new drive first.
