  • How to transfer non-purchased music from iPod Nano to new a computer?

The title pretty much explains my delimma.  I had to buy a new laptop and am trying to move my music library from my Nano to the new computer.  I've installed iTunes and can easily transfer my iTunes purchased music, trouble is a lot of my music has been downloaded from CDs.
Can anyone help a girl out?

Create a folder on your desktop. In iTunes select all the songs you want to transfer. Drag them from iTunes to the folder. Transfer the folder to the new computer. Select all the songs in the folder and drag them to the 'Music' section of iTunes.

  • Old Hard Drive Fried! How To Add Photos and Music from iPod to iTunes

Hello! I'm in serious need of some help.
My old hard drive died without any warning, so I lost everything that was on it. Luckily, my iPod is full of very important photos and all of my music.
How do I transfer these images and mp3s into iTunes on my new computer?
I've lost everything else, so the last thing I want to do is lose the only photos I have left along with the gigs and gigs of music I spent months gathering and organizing.
Please let me know the surest way to transfer these images and music files from my iPod into iTunes.
Thank you so much for your help! This event has saddened and exhausted me completely.

If you have any iTMS purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers has been introduced with iTunes 7. A paragraph on it has been added to this article: Transfer iTunes Store purchases using iPod
The transfer of non iTMS content such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there is a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows. The procedure is a bit involved but if you're interested it's posted in this thread: MacMuse - iPod to iTunes
If you prefer something more automated then there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. This is just a selection, you'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, they are generally quite straightforward. You can also read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes

    iGadget Windows Only
iPod Access Mac and Windows Versions

If your iPod is set to update automatically take care when connecting back to your computer and an empty iTunes. You will get a message that your iPod is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Don't uncheck Sync Music it will be unchecked by default when you choose the manual setting: Managing content manually on iPod
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync again. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up in case you have problems again. External drives are comparatively inexpensive these days and you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.
For some additional ways to retrieve photos from an iPod try:
    iPodPhotoCopy Windows only
    CopyPodPhoto Windows only
iPod Photo Liberator Mac & Windows

  • Transferring non-purchased music from Ipod to ITunes Library

Can I transfer my music from my Ipod into my ITunes Library I just created on my new laptop? I've been successful at transferring the Purchased Music, but not the music I've downloaded from my CD's into my the ITunes library on my old computer.

Hi .. we do this all the time..if its downloaded music put your music into a folder.. then use the drop down "file" menu and import the folder...its really easy..but you also have to create a path for your music..this is done via "edit" drop down /preferences/advanced.. and tell it where your music folder is... other wise your music wont play... if you are using your own cd,s its even easier just put cd in.. tick selected songs.. and import cd

  • Importing non purchased music from iPod to iTunes.

We cannot access our original itunes so we have downloaded iTunes again on a new device. Only the music that we have purchased from iTunes is on there. When we connect our iPod the music is not accessible to sync all of the music together.

You need a third-party program like one of those discussed here:

  • How do i get my music from ipod onto new computer when old computer died

my old computer died unexpectedly and now i have a new one ...how do i get my music from ipod to itunes...i don't want to lose it since i have already paid for it...

1). Connect your iPod to your new computer. If it is set to sync automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod.
2). When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list change the update setting to manual, that will let you continue to use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default: Managing content manually on iPod and iPhone
3). Once you are connected and your iPod is safely in manual mode there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. iTunes will only let you copy your purchases directly from an iPod to the computer, you'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
For everything else (music from CDs, other downloads and including iTunes purchases) there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:

A selection of iPod to iTunes utilities:
TuneJack Windows Only (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)

iPod Music Liberator Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
Music Rescue Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iGadget Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iRepo Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPod Access Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
TouchCopy Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide
4). Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync.
5). I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay: Back up your iTunes library by copying to an external hard drive

  • How to transfer files like music from mac to ipad? tried it using mac but what happen was opposite!

how to transfer files like music from mac to ipad? tried it few times but what happen was the opposite.

If you want to sync your iTunes library on your Mac to your iPad ....
Connect your iPad to the Mac and launch iTunes. Click on your iPad's name on the left side under the devices heading. Then click on the Music tab - and select the music that you want to transfer. Does your iTunes window look like this - with Sync Music checked and the playlists or albums checked as well like in the photo below?
When you click on the apps tab do you have Sync Apps checked and all of the apps in the window below checked to sync as well?
If you select all of the items under the different tabs in iTunes - music, apps, photos. etc. - when you sync - all of the selected content should sync over to the iPad.

  • I need to find out how to transfer all the music from my old IPOD to my new IPOD.  Not all of my music was purchased on ITUNES.

I need to find out how to transfer all my music from my original IPOD nano to my new IPOD nano.   I want to keep both and not all of my music was purchased on ITUNES.  Please help!

Your music should be in your iTunes library, that is how it gets synced to the iPod. If that music is not present in the iTunes library, you will need to get a 3rd party software for the computer to get the music off the original iPod and then move it to the iTunes library to be able to sync it to the new iPod. You can see some additional information in this tip supplied by a fellow user. Syncing to a "New" Computer or replacing a "crashed" Hard Drive

All of the music on my iPod nano is in my ex-husband's iTunes on a Mac. Now have a Windows PC and want to transfer music from iPod to iTunes. Computer says 'Need to Format disk in Drive E'. Will this lose everything? Not sure what the best way is to do everything but haven't got any way of backing up my iPod at present. Thank you!

any itunes purchased music can be transferred from phone to pc via hitting the "transfer purchases" option when u right click on the phone under devices in itunes on the computer when it is plugged in. any non-itunes purchased music is stuck on the phone and cannot be transferred to the computer. u will have to load it onto the computer from the original source or from the old computer.

  • Transferring non-purchased music from iphone to itunes

I've got an iphone with a lot of music I originally transferred from my CDs onto itunes then onto my iphone. My laptop with all my itunes and music on was reently stolen and I don't want to go through the pain of reloading all my CDs. I have managed to transfer purchases from my old account (which I shut down as a result of the theft), but cannot work out how to transfer the CD music from the iphone to the new computer and itunes. It keeps telling me I'm going to wipe the iphone. Any help?

You'll have to use third party software, as Apple makes no provision to do so:
