HT1212 Forgot my IPad unlock password

My IPad has been disabled because I (embarrassingly) forgot my unlock password.  When I sign in to ITunes my IPad does not appear because I did not sync it with Tunes originally.  In order to interact with ITunes and "restore" my IPad, In order to turn it off, I press the sleep/wake button and wait for the red slider.  This slider does not appear and I am instructed to enter my password.  It seems my IPad just goes to sleep mode and does not turn off in order for me to connect to ITunes and clear my mess up. I hope there is a way to help this situation.
Thank you,

If you cannot remember the passcode, you will need to restore your device using the computer with which you last synced it. This allows you to reset your passcode and resync the data from the device (or restore from a backup).
If you restore on a different computer that was never synced with the device, you will be able to unlock the device for use and remove the passcode, but your data will not be present.
You may have to force iPad/iPod into Recovery Mode

    Forgotten passcode (Recovery Mode)
    1. Disconnect the USB cable from the device, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
    2. Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.
    3. While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the device. The device should turn on.
    4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen. When this screen appears, release the Home button.
    5. iTunes should alert you that it has detected a device in recovery mode. Click OK, and then click Restore to restore the device.

Saw this solution on another post about an iPad in a school environment. Might work on your iPad so you won't lose everything.

‘iPad is disabled’ fix without resetting using iTunes
Today I met my match with an iPad that had a passcode entered too many times, resulting in it displaying the message ‘iPad is disabled – Connect to iTunes’. This was a student iPad and since they use Notability for most of their work there was a chance that her files were not all backed up to the cloud. I really wanted to just re-activate the iPad instead of totally resetting it back to our default image.
I reached out to my PLN on Twitter and had some help from a few people through retweets and a couple of clarification tweets. I love that so many are willing to help out so quickly. Through this I also learned that I look like Lt. Riker from Star Trek (thanks @FillineMachine).
Through some trial and error (and a little sheer luck), I was able to reactivate the iPad without loosing any data. Note, this will only work on the computer it last synced with. Here’s how:
    1. Configurator is useless in reactivating a locked iPad. You will only be able to completely reformat the iPad using Configurator. If that’s ok with you, go for it – otherwise don’t waste your time trying to figure it out.
    2. Open iTunes with the iPad disconnected.
    3. Connect the iPad to the computer and wait for it to show up in the devices section in iTunes.
    4. Click on the iPad name when it appears and you will be given the option to restore a backup or setup as a new iPad (since it is locked).
    5. Click ‘Setup as new iPad’ and then click restore.
    6. The iPad will start backing up before it does the full restore and sync. CANCEL THE BACKUP IMMEDIATELY. You do this by clicking the small x in the status window in iTunes.
    7. When the backup cancels, it immediately starts syncing – cancel this as well using the same small x in the iTunes status window.
    8. The first stage in the restore process unlocks the iPad, you are basically just cancelling out the restore process as soon as it reactivates the iPad.
If done correctly, you will experience no data loss and the result will be a reactivated iPad. I have now tried this with about 5 iPads that were locked identically by students and each time it worked like a charm.

Try it and good luck. You have nothing more to lose if it doesn't work for you.

Follow these directions: Forgot passcode for your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, or your device is disabled - Apple Support

  • What should i do if i forgot my iPad mini password

what should i do if i forgot my ipad mini password

Follow the directions in this link: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1212
If your device is disabled because you tried too many times, you need recovery mode.  You'll need to try this a few times to get it to work, so be patient:

Next time, write down your passwords and store in a safe place.

  • TS3274 Restored but forgot my iPad backup password

So I restored my iPad as I forgot my unlock code for the first time and then I restored the iPad. Now I'm being asked to give my backup password and of course I have no idea as it was some time ago. HELP!!!

If you can't remember the backup's password then you won't be able to use that backup - from http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4946 (which applies to iPads as well as iPhones) :
Warning: If you encrypt an iPhone backup in iTunes and then forget your password, you will not be able to restore from backup and your data will be unrecoverable. If you forget the password, you can continue to back up and use the device, however you will not be able to restore the encrypted backup to any device without the password. You do not need to enter the password for your backup each time you back up or sync.
If you cannot remember the password and want to start again, you must perform a full software restore and when iTunes prompts you to select the backup from which to restore, choose set up as a new device.

  • I forgot my iPad iCloud password for my ID . Kindly advise solution.

I purchased an iPad5 from UAE in December  2012.  In january 2013 an iCloud id was created.  In Sep 2013 I upgraded to iOS7 softfare. Now I can't access or reset anything because I can't remember the password for the iCloud ID.  Tried all my general passwords; didn't work. Created a new Apple ID but as the old iCloud ID is still active, this is of no use.  Kindly advise how to delete the old ICloud ID or retrieve my old iCloud Password.
    PS: Currently I'm in India.
    Thanks and Best Regards

It's a really bad idea to post your email addresses - it's an invitation to spam - and I've asked the Hosts to remove them.
Go to http://iforgot.apple.com and sign in with the ID you can't remember the password for. A new password will be sent to your associated email address.
If this doesn't work you will have to contact Support. Go to https://getsupport.apple.com ; click' See all products and services', then 'More Products and Services, then 'Apple ID', then 'Other Apple ID Topics' then 'Lost or forgotten Apple ID password'.
If you want to change your iPad to using a different ID:
Firstly, if you have 'Find My iPhone/iPad/iMac' enabled on any of your devices, turn it off.
Create a new email address, for example  at Yahoo or Gmail, or anywhere convenient (or you can use an existing address as long as it has never been associated with an Apple ID).
Go to http://appleid.apple.com and click 'Manage your Apple ID'. Sign in with the current ID.
Where it says 'Apple ID and primary email address' and gives your current ID email address, click 'edit'.
Enter your new address and click 'Save changes'.
Now you will need to go to each of your devices and sign out in System Preferences (or Settings)>iCloud - 'Sign out' on a Mac, 'Delete this account' on an iOS device (this will not delete the account from the server).
Then sign back in with your new ID. Your iCloud data will disappear from your devices when you sign out, but reappear when you sign back in.
I re-iterate: before you start, turn off 'Find My Mac' (or whatever) or you will need the services of Support. (However you may require the password to do this, which puts you back to resetting the password as above.)

No way to retreive the data, but if you have been backing up to icloud it may still have your old password. Go to icloud.com wipe it and restore from backup. Wipe takes couple minutes, restore from backup a bit longer.
