‘iPad is disabled’ fix without resetting using iTunes
Today I met my match with an iPad that had a passcode entered too many times, resulting in it displaying the message ‘iPad is disabled – Connect to iTunes’. This was a student iPad and since they use Notability for most of their work there was a chance that her files were not all backed up to the cloud. I really wanted to just re-activate the iPad instead of totally resetting it back to our default image.
I reached out to my PLN on Twitter and had some help from a few people through retweets and a couple of clarification tweets. I love that so many are willing to help out so quickly. Through this I also learned that I look like Lt. Riker from Star Trek (thanks @FillineMachine).
Through some trial and error (and a little sheer luck), I was able to reactivate the iPad without loosing any data. Note, this will only work on the computer it last synced with. Here’s how:
1. Configurator is useless in reactivating a locked iPad. You will only be able to completely reformat the iPad using Configurator. If that’s ok with you, go for it – otherwise don’t waste your time trying to figure it out.
2. Open iTunes with the iPad disconnected.
3. Connect the iPad to the computer and wait for it to show up in the devices section in iTunes.
4. Click on the iPad name when it appears and you will be given the option to restore a backup or setup as a new iPad (since it is locked).
5. Click ‘Setup as new iPad’ and then click restore.
6. The iPad will start backing up before it does the full restore and sync. CANCEL THE BACKUP IMMEDIATELY. You do this by clicking the small x in the status window in iTunes.
7. When the backup cancels, it immediately starts syncing – cancel this as well using the same small x in the iTunes status window.
8. The first stage in the restore process unlocks the iPad, you are basically just cancelling out the restore process as soon as it reactivates the iPad.
If done correctly, you will experience no data loss and the result will be a reactivated iPad. I have now tried this with about 5 iPads that were locked identically by students and each time it worked like a charm.

Try it and good luck. You have nothing more to lose if it doesn't work for you.

I synced my IPAD 2 to my IMAC and my password on my IPAD no longer works. My IPAD is disabled for longer and longer after each password I try. I have tried my IMAC password and also my APple ID password. Can anybody help?
If you can't remember the passcode that you set on it (which won't be the same as your iTunes or Mac passwords unless you set it the same), then you will need to connect the iPad to the computer that you normally sync to and you should then be able to reset the iPad and re-sync your content to it (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1212) - you may need to put the iPad into recovery mode : http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1808

I forgot my ipad password. My Ipad is disabled what can i do
I forgot my ipad password so my ipad is disabled what can I do to get it activated.
Entering your Wifi password will not - unless I'm missing something completely - disable your iPad. The only thing which will disable your iPad that I'm aware of is entering your passcode for iPad incorrectly multiple times.
If this is the case then please see: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1212
If you have forgotten your password for your router the WPA or WPA2 key as it's also known as they you will need to log in to your Router and setup a new WPA(2) key.

i forget my password on my ipad and now could not open it. As it is disabled now. How can i reopen it ?
"If you cannot remember the passcode, you will need to restore your device using the computer with which you last synced it. This allows you to reset your passcode and resync the data from the device (or restore from a backup). If you restore on a different computer that was never synced with the device, you will be able to unlock the device for use and remove the passcode, but your data will not be present." http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1212

I recently updared my iPad (1) to the latest version of the OS and now after I leave it for an hour or so it asks for a password. I have not set a lock password on the iPad and hence I dont kpw what it is.
Any thoughts out there? If you don't know the passcode then you will need to connect the iPad to the computer that you normally sync to and you should then be able to reset the iPad and restore/re-sync the content to it (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1212) - you may need to put the iPad into recovery mode to be able to reset it : http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1808
If you do it via a different computer then :
If you restore on a different computer that was never synced with the device, you will be able to unlock the device for use and remove the passcode, but your data will not be present.

Forgot Exchange password for my IPad
How can you retrieve a password for your IPad? My "Exchange" password is unknown
If you have a passcode to the screen lock that you've forgotten, restore the iPad from the computer to which the iPad is synced. For information and instructions, see:
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1212
If that will not work, you'll need to put the iPad into Recovery Mode and then try the Restore again:
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1808
