HT1212 How to unlock Iphone if power/unlock button is broken.

My 3GS phone is locked, and tells me to connect to itunes, but in order to get it to connect to itunes I have to power it off and then back on. What do I do.
also my phone is not jailbroken and I'm not trying to do that....

That will work only if the battery is depleted.  Most unresponsive iPhones are frozen and have to be reset.

  • HT1212 How do you reset when your top button is broken

my top button is broken and i want to reset it becase it is disabled and i cant connect to itunes

You cannot. The sleep/wake button is essential to this operation. You can try letting the battery run out on the device and see if it will restart once you connect it to the charger. If it does, then you can try the support document again that you linked to the forum with.

  • Why doesn't my iPhone 5 power/lock button work?

I just called the apple support people and I had told them my issue of my iPhone 5 power/lock button being dis functional. I had also told them I went to the apple store in guilford mall surrey,bc I had a week left in my warranty at that point. When I went to the apple store i told the representatives that my battery was having some problems ( this issue was resolved) and I told the representative that my power button sometimes has a problem but not as much. The representative did not take this into consideration and told me " to not use my phone as rough ". At this point I had thought my main issue was to only get my battery issue resolved which was resolved, so I didn't really think about asking one more time about the power/lock button. 2 weeks after my warranty had expired I first called apple support telling them I am having many difficulties with my lock/power button. They told me at that point it would cost $260+tax to replace the phone. Then I told them that I have already talked to your representatives at the apple store in guilford mall surrey bc and that they didn't take it into consideration at that point. The apple care person told me "I'm sorry sir you could've have only gotten it replaced when you were still under warranty" and he said " the only option here is to restore your phone ( which I did and nothing changed) or replace your phone by paying $260+ tax. After I told them I would try going to the store again to resolve this disappointing issue. When I went in the store today I told the same thing I told to the representative over the phone and the store representative told me "sorry your appointment of coming before your warranty is not showing up on my system" then I pulled up an email confirming that I had actually come to the same apple store before my warranty had expired. He still didn't take anything into consideration and told me to just use the accessible touch or pay the amount to replace my phone  I am very disappointed because when I went before my warranty was about to expire the representative didn't advise me to get my phone replaced and simply didn't take my concern into consideration. I hope the manager of the store looks into this for the future customers and tries to resolve my issue. Thanks

After your appointment at the Genius Bar, you received an email asking for your feedback.  I suggest you copy these comments and paste them there.  Ranting here serves no purpose at all.

  • HT1212 how to unlock my iPad???

    how to unlock my ipad

You have to restore the device within iTunes. You want to use the same computer that you always sync with so that you can restore your app data and settings. You can restore with any other computer, but you will lose everything on the iPad.
    Instructions can be found here.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1212
You may need to restore using Recovery Mode. You can read about it here.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4097
    Recovery Mode Instructions
Disconnect the USB cable from the iPad, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
Turn off iPad: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for iPad to turn off.
If you cannot turn off iPad using the slider, press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. When the iPad turns off, release the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons.
While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to iPad. When you reconnect the USB cable, iPad should power on.
Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen. When this screen appears you can release the Home button.
If necessary, open iTunes. You should see the recovery mode alert that iTunes has detected an iPad in recovery mode.
    Use iTunes to restore iPad.

If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.

  • IPhone 5S power/lock button does not unlock screen intermittently

I bought my iPhone 5S about a month ago, I usually use the power/lock button to wake my phone up before I unlock using TouchID. However I noticed this strange behaviour where I press the power/lock button and it doesn't go to the standby screen, instead I see the screen appearing and then locking back (assistive touch button can be seen too just before LCD powers off).
It feels as if the power/lock button is registering 2 clicks instead of one. This happens intermittently and not sure if this would become worse in future. Anyone facing this issue as well?

    Hi Celciuz,
    Welcome to the Support Communities!
The following article will provide some troubleshooting steps for your iPhone.
iPhone, iPad, iPod touch: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1430
If that does not resolve the issue, refer to page 146 in the iPhone User Guide to Reset All Settings:
iPhone User Guide for iOS 7
    manuals.info.apple.com/MANUALS/1000/MA1565/en_US/iphone_user_guide.pdf
The final troubleshooting step would be to restore your device:
    iTunes: Restoring iOS software
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1414
Restoring your device will delete all data and content, including songs, videos, contacts, photos, and calendar information, and will restore all settings to their factory condition. Before restoring:
Verify that you are using the latest version of iTunes.
    Back up your device.
Transfer and sync content to your computer.
I hope this information helps ....
    Happy Holidays!
    - Judy

Does is say only "unknown error", or is there a number starting with 0xE associated? If the latter, perhaps this will help:

Note that I'm presuming that you do indeed have an iPod touch, not an iPod classic as your tagline indicated.

  • The apps on my iphone 4 are not responsive. The power/lock button is broken. Is there any way to reboot the phone?

All apps are not responsive including 'Settings'. They quit as soon as you open it.
The power/lock button is not working.
I tried iTunes... there's no 'reboot' option (how sad...) and it for some reason not willing to restore my system.
Anyone has any solution to this?

    Hello there, SmartLeeShore.
As far as troubleshooting the main issue you're describing of apps quitting, you may find the following iPhone Troubleshooting Assistant helpful:
Apple - Support - iPhone - Application Troubleshooting Assistant
    http://www.apple.com/support/iphone/assistant/application/
Would definitely recommend that in Step 3 (Close App) that you close all applicaitons listed in that view.
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.

  • Iphone 4s power/lock button click

When I press the power button on the right side, it sounds different than I press somewhere else.
The click isn't the same and this thing is annoying. I don't know if this is a problem, the button isn't stuck, it works well.
I want to know if the click sounds the same, anyway you press the button.
Sorry for my english and thanks

Your Power/Lock button now has a broken component, this is covered by your Apple Warranty. Make a Genius Reservation and take iPhone to Apple for resolution.
The important click function is made by a plastic component just under the metal button you touch on the outside. This plastic component has a 1mm nub in the middle. This plastic part is damaged, most likely the nub has broken off. The plastic piece can be replaced itself without replacing the whole Flex Cable, but Warranty Service with Apple is best solution right now.
