For how to restore:
iTunes: Restoring iOS software
To restore from backup see:
iOS: How to back up
If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.
You can redownload most iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store

My daughter has set a password on her i pod touch and she cant remember what she set it as can someone help me is there a way i can reset it??
The ONLY way to reset this is by restoring the iPod Touch with iTunes, which can be done from the iPod Touch backup. The Passcode Lock is not included with the backup.
If there were another easier way to do so, there wouldn't be any point in having the Passcode Lock to begin with. -

My daughter used a password to lock her ipod touch and she cannot remember it. How do we unlock her ipod. Any assistance is wonderful
To circumvent an iPod with a forgotten passcode you would need to restore the iPod to factory settings. This will remove the software and data/content from your iPod as well.
To put your iPod/iPhone into recovery mode:
1. Make sure the iPod/iPhone is connected to a computer with iTunes installed on it.
2. Hold down the sleep/wake button(top button) and the home button at the same time until the iPod/iPhone screen goes black then shows the apple logo( usually 10-15 seconds).
3. Once the apple logo appears on the screen, let go of the sleep/wake button and keep holding the home button.
4. The ipod/iphone screen should show an itunes logo and usb cable if you were successful. A dialog box will appear in iTunes that states an iPod/iPhone in recovery mode has been detected if you are successful.
5. Click ok, then click the Restore button
After that you should be up and running in no time!
I hope that this is helpful. -
My daughter has put a passcode on her dads iphone 4s and cant remember it and after multiple attempts it is now in "connect to itunes. My husband does not want to lose the photos on it. Is there a way to get photos off before restoring
If that phone has been synced in iTunes, you can restore from the backup after having restored the phone.
There is also a little mac app that can read the iPhone backups that are in iTunes, called ibackupviewer.
Then when there is no backup of the iPhone: read the following aricle:

My 8 yr old daughter put a passcode on her ipod touch. she hadn't used it in about a month
and now she cannot remember what her code is. She made several attempts yesterday and
disabled it, i got it back to the point where we can try again still not sure what it is.Forum Tip for Godlaw: It is generally considered inappropriate to type all in uppercase letters in Internet discussions, as text that is typed all in uppercase is by convention considered to be shouting. Uppercase is also more difficult to read, so please use all uppercase sparingly and only when you really mean to shout, which we hope you won’t need to do here .

If you previously turned on FIndMyiPod on the iPod in Settings>iCloud and wifi is on and connected go to iCloud: Find My iPhone, sign in and go to FIndMyiPhone and use Remote Wipe to erase the contents of your device. If you have been using iCloud to back up, you may be able to restore the most recent backup to reset the passcode after the device has been erased.
You can also wipe the iOS device by installing the FindMyiPhone app on another iOS device and using that app to wipe the device. -
As a grand parent, how can I put some apps on an ipod touch and then give it as a gift?
As a grand parent, how can I put some apps on an ipod touch and then give it as a gift?
Apps and many other purchases are tied to the iTunes Store account via which they were purchased. So if you buy the app, that app is tied to your iTunes Store account. Without that account information, the child could not update the app nor back it up.
I'd also suggest giving the child an iTunes gift card or gift certificate along with the iPod. If the child is too young to have and manage his or her own iTunes Store account, then his or her parent could set up an iTunes Store account to purchase the apps. That could be done with that gift card and not need a credit card. You can also gift specific apps, though again that would require the child or a parent to open an iTunes Store account through which to redeem the gift. For more information on gift options, see:
