HT1212 What if your computer will not go in recovery mode?

I cant remember my passcode to access my iphone 4.  I followed the directions but my computer says i dont have recovery mode downloaded.
What can I do?

Hey mary loo123,
Thanks for the question. It looks like you are on the right track, as you came from the most relevant resource. Do you have iCloud setup on your device? If so, you can follow these steps to erase it remotely:
If you have Find My iPhone enabled, you can use Remote Wipe to erase the contents of your device. If you have been using iCloud to back up, you may be able to restore the most recent backup to reset the passcode after the device has been erased.
via iOS: Forgotten passcode or device disabled after entering wrong passcode

  • HT1455 What if my computer will not start up in safe mode?  What next?

What is the remedy for a MacBook that will not start up in safe mode?  The gray apple icon and progress wheel appear, I let go the shift key and the whole thing shuts off again.  Please help.  Thank you.

My understanding is that the Apple logo is produced by the disk and the spinning wheel shows that the software boot process has started.
1 - Shut down your Mac
2 - Press the power button to start and
3 - Immediately press and hold the Command (Apple) key and the S key
4 - At the prompt type the following and then hit return:
    /sbin/fsck -fy
fsck will go through five "phases" and then return information about your disk's use and fragmentation. Once it finishes, it'll display this message if no issues were found:
** The volume (name_of_volume) appears to be OK
If fsck found issues and has altered, repaired, or fixed anything, it will display this message:
***** FILE SYSTEM WAS MODIFIED *****
Important: If this message appears, repeat the fsck command you typed in step 4 until fsck tells you that your volume appears to be OK (first-pass repairs may uncover additional issues, so this is a normal thing to do). When fsck reports that your volume is OK, type the following at the prompt and hit return:
    reboot
Your computer should start up normally and allow you to log in.
    Good luck.

  • Itunes will not open in recovery mode

My ipad was corrupted and froze so I tried to use recovery mode to restore. However, iTunes does not open after connecting ipad to PC. I connect the cable while pressing home button and when the iTunes logo as well as the cable picture is on then try to start iTunes but it does not start. I can see in task manager that iTunes is an active process but it will not start on pc. I can start iTunes when device is not connected. When I connect ipad while iTunes is on, it does not recognize the device. I have removed and re-installed iTunes twice already. Please help.

  • Old iPod Will not leave disk recovery mode; wont register on comp

    Hey,
I have my old, black-n-white, 15gb scrollwheel iPod. A few days ago, the folder icon popped up. I followed Apples troubleshooting and reset the iPod to disk recovery mode. Now the only thing is that it is stuck in "Disk Mode -- OK to disconnect." and nothing i can click press will exit that screen, not even trying to reset again. Note, the hold button icon still properly shows up on the screen when it is switched.
To make matters worse, when I try connecting my iPod to my computer, it will not get recognized by the comp, and makes my iTunes freeze and I am forced to close it.
So, what is up? did my iPod die? i just dont want to buy a new one. =(

Hold down the PLAY and MENU buttons to get it out of disk mode. Wait until you see the Apple logo on the screen. It may take as long as 10 to 20 seconds before it happens.

  • HT201263 My ipad will not show the recovery mode, it goes into DFU mode just fine, but whenever I put it in recovery mode I get nothing but a blank white screen. After doing a restore or update itunes gives me error 37. This all happened due to a failed u

I updated from ios 5.0.1 to 5.1. Midway through the update itunes crashed. I got it all working again and ever since I have been stuck in a recovery loop. DFU mode works fine, but when I go into recovery mode (yes I am doing it right, yes I have tried pwning, tinyumbrella, etc.) it still just gives me a white screen (I am not getting the plug arrow and itunes icon screen that shows up when you are in recovery mode). I am a huge fan of hacking, mods, and jbs, BUT have never done any on the iPad, (found it pointless).. nevertheless, I am stuck thanks to apple in a white screen and a nonworking iPad. If anyone has any ideas that does not include jbs, updating, restoring, restoring with internet off, restoring in DFU, I would gladly appreciate it. I would take it to the apple store but it was a friends and I didn't purchase it. My friend had the issue formerly and they had no idea what to do at apple (they usually try DFU, restore, and then have nothing else to tell you.

There's a whole lot to read in your post, and frankly I have not read it all.
Having said that, this troubleshooting guide should help:

In particular, pay attention to the mobile device support sections near the bottom, assuming you have already done the items above it.

  • IPhone 5 Will Not Restore in Recovery Mode

    Hi everyone,
I am currently having a pretty serious problem with my iPhone 5 16GB (iOS7.0.2). Today, I discovered that my phone was "searching" for cell service despite being in an area with good coverage. This issue continued for 5 hours. I tried to turn it on/off, a hard reset, turning "airplane mode" on/off, and even tried to restore it! When I attempted to restore it however, iTunes told me that "Find my iPhone" had to be turned off. Then, I kept getting an error that there was a problem deregistering it from my iCloud account. Finally, I decided (after creating a full backup) to put the phone into recover mode and try to restore it that way. Not only, did I get an "error (1)", I attempted that FIVE times and now my phone is stuck in recovery mode. Hopefully, I can get it fixed or else I'll have to replace the thing.
    PLEASE HELP ME.
P.S. I might add that oddly, the phone still receives calls; my wife tried calling the phone, and it not only rings, it even goes to voicemail...

    Hey there Lorenzo Carunun,
It sounds like you are unable to restore your device with iTunes at all. You did some great troubleshooting to start with. I would recommend the steps in this article named:
iOS: Troubleshooting update and restore issues
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1275
Install the latest version of iTunes.
Verify that your computer operating system is up to date. If an update requires a restart, check for updates again after restarting.
On a Mac: In the Apple () menu, choose Software Update. Install all available updates.
On a Windows PC: Go to the Microsoft Windows Update page.
Check your security software: Note: Most restore issues are caused by out-of-date or incorrectly configured security software, firewalls, and network router settings or firmware.
Isolate the issue to third-party software.
    Update security software.
    Properly configure your security software.
Temporarily disable or uninstall your security software.
Temporarily remove any unnecessary USB devices, leaving only your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, the USB cable that came with your device, and a keyboard and mouse, if necessary.
Restart your computer and try again.
Note: To perform some of these steps, you need to be logged in to the computer as an administrator. If you are not sure if you have administrator access, contact the owner of the computer or the system administrator.
You may have done a step or 2 already, so feel free to skip those steps you have done.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    All the best,
    Sterling

  • IMac will not boot in recovery mode

I have tried to boot into recovery mode (CMD-R) in Mavericks.  I tried with my hard drive and a Mac Install disk.  Disk utility has grayed out the erase option except for unused space. Can't partition either. I am attempting to donate to my church.  They will use their Apple ID to load their current OSX. Help

If you still have the Install OS X Mavericks.app file from the App Store or can download it again, you can recreate your Mavericks Recovery HD using the Recovery Partition Creator 3.7 utility and the Install OS X Mavericks.app.

  • Help!!!  I'm locked out and My Ipod touch will NOT go into recovery mode no matter what I do...I haven't read this problem anywhere!

My grandson got his little hands on my ipod and has locked me out. I now get the red lable of doom and it tells me I must connect to Itunes to fix it.  Problem is I don't have the orginal computer I synced up with. (It crashed about 5 weeks ago).  Well I didn't think that would be that big of a deal becuase I have a lot of junk on my Ipod and had been thinking about re-formating it anyway.  Well I've tried every method out there and I can not get this thing into recovery. I powered it off. unplugged the usb cord from the Ipod but left it plugged into the computer. Held down the Home button and plugged in the USB cord. the little apple logo comes up. Then after about 10 secs it goes right to the disabled screen.
I also tried it on different computers and tried different usb cords, I've tried also going into DFU mode...nothing it just goes right to the password screen...HELP...I've not read about this problem anywhere.

Is my hdd shut, and do i need to buy a new one? Please help, thank you.

Looks as if it's time for a new internal drive - for the money you'd spend on some 'beefier' sort of disk utility like DiskWarrior (and there's no guarantee that DW would even work for your) you can buy a new external drive and install it yourself.
I would buy an enclosure for the old drive just in case you want to use something like Data Rescue 3 (which I am just now evaluating, so I can't give it a thumbs up or down just yet) to rescue some some data from your dying internal drive. (Data Rescue 3 is usually $100 - the MacUpdate December 2012 bundle has it and a slew of other apps for $50).
Unless you had a backup or if DR3 can be of any help, most of your data is probably gone.
I'd go shopping for a new drive at either Crucial or OWC. I prefer Seagate over most other brands - I tend to stay away from Western Digital as I've had bad experiences with them.
Did your MBP ship with Lion? Or did it come with an installation disc? We'll need to know before telling you how to procede with formatting the new drive and installing an OS on it.
    Good luck,
    Clinton

  • My iphone 4 will not go into recovery mode, and will not charge or connect to itunes. Also, it randomly shuts down.

So when I plug it in, it doesn't recognize that it's being plugged in. I've checked the charger cord, and everything. By the way, I think it's ios 7.1.2, but I'm not sure. It's definately ios 7

Try holding the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons down until the Apple logo does not reappear--even if it takes a few minutes. Then try the DFU mode.
