  • Airport Express not working with Comcast

I used to have AT&T and had my airport working well. Yesterday i changed to Comcast and my airport is not working the light stays yellow.. I tried resetting it but it didn't work.. I use it with my old Cisco router and its working. Whats wrong with my Airport Express? My computers are Windows 7

A solid amber light indicates that the AirPort Express has locked up....or it is defective.
Suggest you that try a Factory Default Reset as follows:
    Pull the Express from power
Let it rest for a few minutes
Hold in the reset button and keep holding it for another 8-10 seconds while you plug the Express back in to power
Release the reset button after the hold period and allow 40-45 seconds to restart
The Express should display a slow, blinking amber light at this time
If you continue to see a solid amber light after a few tries with a Factory Default Reset, the Express has failed and it will need to be replaced.

Since updating iTunes today, Airport Express not working. More specifically, the Airport software will recognise the device exists, but iTunes cannot connect to it, just getting error message.

    try this:
go system preferences > network > airport > advanced > TCP/IP and set *configure IPv6* to off. click on apply.
now have iTunes connect to the remote speaker again.

  • AirPort card not working ... mostly

This is one that has me a bit stumped. I have a G3 iBook with the original airport card installed. Yesterday, it stopped recognizing any wireless networks in the local area (I have one graphite ABS and one AirPort Express, plus there are one or two other wireless network around here I can normally at least see). My other portable (PowerBook G4 12") sees all these networks fine. I re-seated the card in the iBook, to no avail. I assumed it had conked out and started researching replacement cards (quite spendy, as you probably know).
Just today, my iBook started recognizing wireless nets again ... briefly. For about five or ten minutes, I saw a few networks and actually was able to access the WAN. After then, though, it's back to not working at all. Has this happened to anyone? Was it the last, final gasp of my venerable airport card? Or if this has happened to you, did you find that it was another problem entirely?
    Thanks for any help.

    Appelfan,
I had gotten frustrated with the random behavior and posted a question about the possibility of an USB dongle wireless solution for the Mac. Duane answered me and gave me a very helpful suggestion - that I consider Ethernet Wireless Adapters, and even mentioned a couple of brands - just in case you may consider that route. I have copied his responses to me, below:
    Thank you,

An alternative to USB wireless adapters is Ethernet wireless adapters. Those require no drivers and therefore will work with any Ethernet device regardless of OS.

Examples of Ethernet wireless adapters are the Linksys WET11 and Linksys WET54G. There are many more.

  • Help - Airport network not working - confused!!

Hello, I wonder if anyone out there can help. I have got a problem with my airport network that doesn't make any sense and I havent seen another post with the same problems.
I have an imac G5 with 10.3.9. I have a wireless network set up, with an airport wireless card and two ax boxes (the second was bought later to boost the signal when we moved the Mac to another room). Initially it set up fine and worked for about 8-9 months. Then I noticed the second ax started behaving strangely. It would occasionally turn from 'green' to flashing amber for no reason - often after it had been on for a while. Turning it off and on did not change anything. Usually though it would work again the next day after being off all night. This continued to happen randomly until a couple of months later it switched to flashing amber continually.
I thought it had 'lost' the network so I tried using the airport set up assistant to reconnect it. However the set up assistant does not recognise ax number 2 any more, so I am not able to reconnect it. At the moment I am running off a faint signal from ax number 1.
I also tried setting up a completely new network from scratch. Again the new network is fine from the base ax bx but ax number 2 is still not recognised by my mac.
I also have a wireless printer connected to the network which does not work any more. This is where things became more confusing. The printer needs a boost signal to operate so when my booster ax went wrong the printer would not work. So I moved the printer and mac nearer ax number 1 to ensure it would pick up the network. However it still didn't work. So I attempted to set up the printer as wireless again, thinking it had become 'disconnected' somehow. However during installation you have to select the network to connect to. The computer would not pick up the apple network at all from ax number 1, yet it easily recognises our neighbours network from the flat above us. Strangely when I tried turning on the faulty ax box, the printer set up program picked up the faulty ax and not the original ax. But obviously I can't use the printer from the faulty ax box because it doesnt connect to the rest of the network.
So now I am confused. I am not sure what has gone wrong and what I need to replace. Originally I thought it was the second ax box that had gone wrong. But as the printer software can identify the second ax box I am not sure that this is the problem. Could there be something wrong with the airport card? I have checked that the card is properly connected and there is nothing visibly wrong there.
If anyone can help - please reply as I am going crazy here with things not working and don't know what to do next.
    Thanks, Wrenster

    Hello Wrenster,
I understand why you are confused, I was too while reading your post. However I have the solution for you. I believe you are a victim of environmental interference. Someone in your neighborhood just moved in with a another network, someone had a baby and is using a baby monitor, or maybe a local ham radio operator just got his license. Who knows!
This is what you need to do. Get all the devices in the same room and preform a hard restart on each one them per http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=108044. Remember to preform a hard restart! After performing a hard restart on all three devices check the wireless networks available. You should have 3 ( one main and 2 airport expresses) ( or two depending on how many airports you own, I am not sure from your post). If you don't have the correct amount you may a bum base station and it may need to be replaced. But if you have the correct number of wireless networks ( Apple network XXXXXXX), use the airport admin utility ( inside of the utility folder ) to locate the main base station and configure it.
You will know when you are on the configuration page when you can read Name, Contact and Location.
First change the name to the location of the main base station, ie; it is the den so name should read DEN. leave the contact and location alone. On the bottom half of the page is where you create your network, so under network name change it to your desired network name ie; when others come over to my house I have them select COWSWEAT from the network list.
Second click on the change wireless security and set the security to WEP 128 BIT and make your password. Once you have configured a successful password be sure to click on the lock on the main configuration page ( the one with password under it) to get the HEX password for your PC friends.
Third ( we are almost done ) Select the WDS tab at the top and enable this base station as a main station. Select allow other wireless client on this base station as well. Now on that empty list box below click the plus sign to the right to add other base stations to this WDS network. From here you should be able to select the other 2 base station that we have not configure yet ( but preformed a hard restart on). After you have added them ( be sure the check box for auto configure is selected) they should read in the list that was empty on the WDS page.
Now update this should start the update process and may take 5-10 mins, it should provide a summery pop-up when with each station is done.
( Also you may get a message that there is update for the base station, please preform the updates for the selected base stations)
Now when it is completed check to see how many networks you have available ( it should only be one ). Select the network and confirm that all of your base stations appear under the select a base station in Airport admin utility, then move them back to their homes around the house. Giving them 45 secs to restart they should turn green if not , they could out of range of each other or the environmental interference could be affecting them. So you my need to rearrange them until they all green.
    Good Luck,
    Cowsweat

  • Brand new Airport Express not working

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!! I just bought my first Apple (mac book) and got the airport express. Hooked it up, set up my network, etc., and everything was working fine for the first 24 hours. Now, the Airport Express is not working. It is flashing the amber light which seems to indicate no internet connection....when I plug the ethernet wire directly to my laptop from the modem, the internet works. AND, the airport express seems to be working with the laptop (because I see my wireless network name in the menu of networks). Problem is, I can't get on the internet wirelessly anymore....so it seems the airport express is not getting the signal from the modem...but again, the modem is working fine when connected to the computer directly. I tried to reset the airport express and then go through the set up again, to no avail...still that flashing amber light. UGH.
    Thanks!

You're very welcome! The key is that DSL/Cable modems tend to "remember" the devices connected to them. The rationale of doing the power recycle is to give the modem an opportunity to "recognize" the newly connected device. Most of the time this re-recognition phase takes just a few minutes, but it's not unusual for it to take hours, and thus, why I recommend overnight to rule out any other issues.

  • Airport does not work after upgrade to windows vista SP1

    Hi,
I have a MBP running windows vista 32 bit under bootcamp. For some of my professional software, I need windows. Up to now, everything runs OK.I've upgrade to bootcamp 2.1 and everything still runs just fine. However, I wanted to install SP1 because it fixes some of Vista's (many) flaws. After installing SP1 (it downloads automatically), e.g. airport does not function anymore - it just does not see the wireless anymore (it looks like on my MBP it does no longer find the drivers for e.g. the wireless card). Uninstalling SP1 fixes the problem but brings me back to square 1. Any solutions? Thanks.

  • Airport Just Not Working

I was able to download the Airport Utility and set up my Airport on my Windows Laptop. The utility says everything is fine but the airport itself is flashing amber. The wireless internet is not working and I have tried resetting the Airport but no luck. Any ideas on how to resolve this issue?
    Thanks

Have you tried to reset the base?
Just get a paper clip and find the area in the back to reset the base
just insert the paper clip until the amber light flashes twice as fast as before and hold it there for about 5 seconds. Also try reseting your modem as well.
This cleared up my problems yesterday .

  • DTS (5.1) Audio Through Airport Express: Not Working

I imported some DTS-encoded WAV files into iTunes, to stream to my audio system via an Airport Express. The AE is connected to the preamp via optical, the WAV files were not converted or modified in any way, and the volume is @ 100% in iTunes.
The preamp receives the files and the DTS icon lights up, so all seems to be good... except the audio output is 2.0 only. As a test I converted the files to Apple Lossless (since I know the AE has to make that conversion), same result.
As another test I turned down the volume in iTunes and the audio became white noise, another indication that the files are DTS.
If I burn an audio CD using iTunes and the same WAV files, and play them on my OPPO player I get 5.1, the final and conclusive proof that the files are properly encoded.
I know I've read that streaming DTS-encoded audio via the Airport Express is possible, so I'm not sure what I might be doing wrong.
    Any ideas?

    Hi,
I experienced some DTS files in iTunes, with my AirPort Express some months ago, it was working fine on my Marantz receiver. A few days ago I wanted to listen to them again, only white noise... I wanted to rip by myself a DTS-CD, therefore I found this out. Apparently since AirTunes has been turned to AirPlay, it's not working anymore (?) / the same way.

  • Airport Express Not Working With Netgear Router

I have two Airport Expresses connected to my Netgear WNDR3300.  I run Windows 7 on all my computers.  One express works fine, wirelessly streaming music in several rooms.  However, the other does not work unless it is plugged into my router.  When it is unplugged and I try to connect to it via iTunes I have a "connection timed out" message.  Genius wasn't able to help me, and the Apple support won't help me over the phone because the express is out of warranty.  It is a 1st generation Express, but was working fine until I installed the newer express.  Can anyone help?

I am sorry that I don't have a definitive answer but I also have Windows computers and I have "inherited" some older Apple devices from my son and am trying to learn about them so in addition to searching this group,  I "Googled" "1st generation airport express" and it listed many specific posts in this group - I read them all and they might answer your question - good luck

  • Airport Express Not Working with iMac G4 and HP laptop

Ok I am really frustrated with this. I had my Airport Express configured to my mac and my old roommate's mac fine. I moved and just tried setting it up with my mac and my new roommate's PC laptop. It did not work. I tried connecting a router to see if that would help. It still didn't work. I reset the airport's default settings and it still didn't work. Is there a connectivity issue between macs and pcs using the airport express that I don't know about? Am I missing something? Can anyone give me some suggestions of what to try next because I am seriously fed up and running out of ideas of how to alleviate this.
Could it have anything to do with a firewall on the pc or the fact that I'm going from a place that supplied me cable internet to a place that now has dsl?
    Thanks for any help.
    Aaron

Macs and PCs work together just fine with an Airport Express.
Unfortunately, you have given us little information to help you with beyond simply indicating that "it doesn't work". Please elaborate:
    1. do the Mac and PC "see" the Airport Express wireless network?
    2. if so, does the Airport Utility (or Airport Admin Utility) on either computer "see" the Airport Express and allow you to view/change its configuration?
    3. what does the status light on the Airport Express show?
    4. if you can connect to the Airport Express wireless network from the PC and/or Mac, is the only problem that you cannot access the internet?
    5. what kind of reset did you do? To really start from scratch, do a factory default reset as described here.

  • Airport Express not working with wireless router

I just bought Airport Express to play music on my stereo. My PC running XP is connected to my wireless router (TeleWell TW-EA510v3) with ethernet cable and airport express wirelessly. Problem is that Airport Utility (and iTunes) can't find AE if it's not connected to router with ethernet cable.
I can connect to AE from Aiport Utility by "configure other" option so it's connected to my wireless network correctly.
Is this kind of set up even possible (pc wired to router and AE wireless)? I have tried tried WEP, WPA/WPA2 and no encryption on my wireless network and AE connects ok every time but Airport Utility still can't find it. I even tried to make a WDS network but AE was not compatible with my router. Now I can't come up with anything else to try.
Is there anything else to do? Should I buy WLAN adabter to my PC and would AE work then?
Why can't Apple make Airport Utility to recognise AE with given IP like with "configure other" option? Should not be too hard to program?!

Follow the isntruction lisetd below...they work.
Actually, the ae is a slick device, once you get it to work.
Make sure that one (or both) checkboxes in Airport Utility > Airport Express tab
(middle of page) are not checked...if one or both are checked, they limit (hide) wireless connectivity options (e.g., WEP-64) to choose from.
P.S. You must have patience: it may take a couple of minutes to establish the connection and turn the led to solid green. So, give it a chance.

    OMG!!! You are da man!!!
I have this streaming perfectly now!! Here is what I did for others to see and use (it does work perfectly)
Step 1) Clear/Reset the Airport Express
Step 2) Connect the Airport Express directly to the Router/Modem via Ethernet to set up Wireless
Step 3) Do it via the Manual Set-up Effort Listed Below following:
    AirPort > Base Station
o Base Station Name: <rename or leave default>
    o Base Station Password: <enter desired password>
    o Verify Password: <re-enter desired password>
o Remember this password in my keychain: (optional)
    o Set time automatically: (unchecked)
    AirPort > Wireless
o Wireless Mode: Join a wireless network
    o Network Name: <existing Linksys wireless network>
o Wireless Security: <select the encryption type of the existing wireless network> I have 64bit WEP
(Same as 40bit on the drop down menu)
o Wireless Password: <enter the existing wireless network password>
o Verify Password: <re-enter the existing wireless network password>
    Music
    o Enable AirTunes (checked)
o iTunes Speaker Name: <enter desired speaker name>
    o iTunes Speaker Password: (optional)
    o Verify Password: (optional)
o Click Update to write the new settings to the AX
    In iTunes:
    iTunes > Preferences... > Advanced > General
o Look for remote speakers connected with AirTunes (checked)
Once it congratulates you, unplug the ethernet cable
Verify in Aitport Utility that it still recognizes (if not, repeat the above). Note this may take a few minutes, so be patient.
Now place the airport express with your stereo (or whatever) and again be patient as it tries to find the network
(mine took 4 minutes) then it turns green and you are off listening to music on your stereo downstairs in another room.
Frustrating when it does not work at first, but keep trying and it will work!!
    Thanks everyone for your help!!

  • Airport Express not working with iTunes

After experiencing cutting out and poor sound quality, I reset my Airport Express to factory settings. It is part of of my network with an Airport Extreme. Everything appears to be correctly configured and I get a message indicating it was successful, but then I get an error message after the restarting of the Airport Express and I can no longer see airport Express listed in the Airport Utility window. Playing iTunes through my stereo speakers does not work. In order to attempt the configuration again, I have to reset the Airport Express to see it in the window again. I get the same result each time. Can you suggest anything in the configuration of my Airport Express which would be causing the problem I have an iMac running OS 10.4 Thanks for your help.

I had a similar problem. My solution was NOT to use the Airport Utility application. Make sure you reset your airport express then do the following:
    1/ Open Preferences
    2/ Choose Network
3/ Highlight Airport and insure it is clicked "ON".
4/ See if it shows up under "Network Name"....if it does click "Apply".
Let me know if u get it working...

  • Airport Express not working with University Network

So I recently purchased an Airport Express to use as a router/to stream music because my University's (University of Arizona) network is a WPA-2 Enterprise network doesn't allow that. I have an ethernet port in my dorm room and its all hooked up but when I connect to my created network there is no internet connection. I already registered the MAC address with the network so now I'm not sure why its not working.

I have just bought the new Airport Express as well and when I plug it into my router at home it does not pick up the Internet. My old AE has no problems at all and all other connections work.
I can see the new AE in my Airport Utility but cannot connect to it. Really frustrating and far from plug and play.
