HT1218 Unable to download airport extreme firmware.

My airport extreme will not download firmware for some reason. Has anyone got any ideas to solve this please.
Many thanks,
Gareth

  • Airport extreme firmware update screwed up my IP sharing and internet

I am having all the same problems -
    1) I upgraded to the 7.1 firmware
    2) I got the 'double NAT' error, but no problems connecting to the internet
    3) When I turned the bridge mode to off, I lost my internet, so I
    4) Tried to turn the bridge mode back to Share an IP address, but got an error about IP addresses.
    5) I went into Setup - the network port mapping tab - and unchecked and then re-checked the Airport button, so now I have internet access, but only at one computer, and if my computer is functional, my VOIP modem is not (or vice versa)!
    6) when I tried going back into "Share an IP address", I got the same error about the beginning and end DHCP conflicting with my WAN.
(If it helps to know, I have two AEBS - one is set up as the Main WDS station, and the other Participates in that WDS)
Now I'm afraid to touch anything!!

I have installed the new AirPort Extreme firmware update (7.4.1) and with airport disk utility i want to connect automatically my hard drive related to the airport (wifi mode) , the connexion was working well before that update and now i have an error message (unknown user or wrong password error -36 ...) when the disk tries to connect automatically.
I would like to rollback to the 7.3.2 firmware version but there is no way to find it on internet (or on apple download) even if i change rollback airport utility to version 5.4.1: the binary firmware 7.3.2 disapeared from my mac and i can only choose 7.4.1 binary file ...
Do anyone have the same problem ?I you found how to fix it please answer my post (thanks)
Ok, here's how you actually do the downgrade - here's what Apple says, not exactly right - I would add that you HAVE to go to the MENU, choose BASE STATION, then hold down the Option key while pressing UPLOAD FIRMWARE, this will get you to a window that has the dropdown with older versions....the other versions were not available to me any other way.
{quote}If I have a computer or device that does not work well with an AWD with the latest update, how can I install previous (earlier) versions of firmware?
    1. Open AirPort Utility.
    2. From the AirPort Utility menu, hold the Option key (Control key in Windows XP and Vista) and choose Check for Updates....
    3. Select the specific firmware version you require.
    4. Click Download.
    5. Select your base station and choose Manual Setup from the Base Station menu, or double-click on the AWD icon.
    6. Choose Base Station > Upload Firmware.
    7. Select a firmware version and click OK.{/quote}

  • Airport Extreme Firmware Update 7.3.2 no longer connects to internet

Automatic Updates recommended Airport Extreme Firmware Update 7.3.2, which I accepted (BAD). The Airport Extreme does have a green light, but CANNOT connect to the internet. Cannot "Check for Updates" with Airport Utility (option key down) because I cannot access the internet. Airport Utility shows 7.3.2, but nothing lower. Is there a location on the mac where the older driver resides?
Numerous restarts, resets, etc with both the Cable Modem and Airport Extreme and my MacBook do not help.
How do I download 7.3.1? Can I? How can I revert?
I can access the internet from another network, hence this email.
    Any suggestions would help!

When I updated to the Airport Extreme to 7.3.2 firmware it was dropping wireless connections randomly, Today I reverted back to 7.3.1 and looks like it is staying up for now but I am still shell shocked. To revert back in Airport Utility:
    1) Hold down the option key(Mac), the Control key for Windows at the same time clicking on Check for updates
This will open a popup window with the previous versions, select the Airport Extreme Firmware 7.3.1 update and click download.
    2) After the download is done, from Base station file menu drop down select Upload Firmware, you will get a choice to download different firmware updates, select 7.3.1.
    That should install the 7.3.1.
    There you go enjoy.

  • Airport Extreme Firmware update?

Hi all, as part of a seperate issue am experiencing with network transmission speeds I'm checking to see if I can update my Airport Extreme firmware.
Currently, the Software Updates section doesn't find any updates and the current firmware I'm using is 4.80.46.0 yet there appears to be a new version at http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/airportextremefwupdate.html
Is that Firmware applicable? Is there a resident page that shows all of the Airport Extreme wireless cards firmware versions and updates?

    Bravo,
    OK... I see....
Then the Software Update would the in fact show you the latest updates for the Airport Extreme Card.... I have never seen a firmware update for the card but then it could be contained within the update itself.
The latest Airport software is 4.2...
My firmware version on the G5 iMac is 405.1 (3.90.34.0.p18)
Nothing we can do about that, that know of.

  • Nortel VPN still broken with Airport Extreme firmware 7.1

I've just recently started using the NAT'ed mode of my 802.11n Airport Extreme and the the Nortel VPN connectivity is still broken with firmware 7.1.
I've setup a side by side config using the new Airport Extreme and my older Airport Express to make sure the issue is indeed with the Airport Extreme.
Here are the details of my setup:
    ISP: NTT/GOL B-FLET (PPoE)
Wireless Config #1 - Airport Extreme firmware 7.1
Wireless Config #2 - Airport Express firmware 6.3
Client #1 - Nortel Contivity VPN V06_01.014 Windows XP 802.11g
Client #2 - Nortel Contivity VPN V04_86.033 Windows XP in Parallels 802.11n
The odd thing is that it isn't totally broken. The VPN connection is made and low bandwidth transfers work fine (ie. ssh, http requests), but higher bandwidth transfer fail to complete (ie RDP/RDC, ftp's, Outlook xfers).
When my clients are on the Airport Extreme Network, they have the issue but don't have the issue on the Airport Express network.
Is anyone else still having problems with Nortel VPN ? Does Apple have any suggestions ?
    Thanks,
    Eliot

I'm using Apani's Nortel VPN client (the most recent version) on my Mac mini, and the Windows version on my Windows XP notebook computer. Both were broken with the original AEBS firmware (7.0), but now both work well with the updated 7.1 firmware.
Keep experimenting - I'm sure you'll get it working.

  • Multiple issues arose after upgrading Airport Extreme firmware to 7.41

I recently upgraded my Airport Extreme firmware to 7.4.1 and instantly all my windows machine had issues connecting to the wifi, my Apple TV could no longer connect including a Nokia E71. The only devices connecting were the MacBook and iPhones. For the Windows machines i resolved this by forcing to authenticate using WPA2 AES encription. But the Apple TV and E71 couldn't connect. Also some VPN connection issues arose with my windows machines (iPsec). After 2 days of reluctancy to downgrade the firmware, i was left with no option other than to downgrade to 7.3.2.
I am 100% sure there is a problem with the new firmware, downgrading fixed all the issues without any configuration adjustment.
Apple you dropped the ball on this one, when are we getting a patch to 7.4.1?

Open Airport Utility. Select the airport from the list on the left (if you have more than one) and then choose Manual Setup.
On the Summary tab that opens, click on Version (that's the word Version, not the version number next to it). A drop-down arrow appears - click it and you should get a list of versions to choose from. 7.3.2 seems OK. Pick it and the device will downgrade and restart.

  • Airport Utility 5.4.2 was unable to find Airport Extreme base station.

I downloaded the new Airport Utility 5.4.2 to my 2009 24" iMac with Snow Leopard. Now it is unable to find my Airport Extreme base station or Airport Express. My iMac is connected to the network via the Airport Extreme base station but the Airport Utility cannot find it. All I get is this message "Airport Utility was unable to find any Apply wireless devices. Make sure the Apple wireless device you want to set up is plugged in and in range of your computer and then click rescan to try again". I clicked rescan numerous time with no luck. I even downloaded the Airport Utility 5.4.2 again with no luck. What is wrong??? Everything was working fine until I downloaded the Airport Utility 5.4.2.

    Thanks for the info.
Following your same steps exactly, I am able to save the configuration file to the desktop, or navigate to another folder to save it at that location.
I was able to do this previously with 10.5.x and with current Snow Leopard. Notice that you list 10.4.x as your operating system. If you are still running this OS, it could be that 10.4.x does not allow this feature with 5.4.2?
Not sure if downloading another copy of 5.4.2 would be worth the pain, as I'm inclined to believe that it probably would not help solve your issue. If you decide to do this, please post back with your results.

  • Old Airport Extreme Firmware

I'm just getting back to trying to figure out my Airport Extreme and am now using Snowlep, I'm trying to update my firmware thinking that will fix the issue I'm having and its telling me that version 1.1 of the CD software is no longer supported. Any ideas how I can get a more recent version of Airport Extreme that works with Snow lep.

SL contains the most up to date version of Airport Utility. To start it Command Shift and type in Airport Utility. Once it finds your AE it will tell you the version of firmware the AE is currently using. You can find the most up to date firmware version by clicking manual set up and then click the firmware version which will tell you what you have installed and what the most current version is. To get the most current version simply click on it and the AE will begin downloading and installing.
    Hope this helps,
    Regards,
    Roger

  • Airport Extreme Firmware Location?

I need to revert my Extreme back to firmware version 7.1.1, but I can't seem to find the download anywhere. Any help? Or, how do I pull it from my install disk? I'm using the extreme at home between two PC's running XP and then wirelessly with my MBP. I could see my external USB HD before I upgraded the firmware to 7.3, now no love. Also, the revert function on Airport Utililty only lets me go back to 7.2.1
    Thanks!

The AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS)can store a number of configuration profiles, including static IP addresses if it was configured as such. You can access these profiles through the AirPort Utility. You can also delete them by performing a "factory default" reset on the AEBS.
You can access these profiles as follows: AirPort Utility > Manual Setup > Base Station > Manage Profiles

  • AirPort Extreme firmware update fails due to proxy

Have latest AirPort Extreme (tower) hardware at work, with v7.7 firmware, and am trying to upgrade the firmware to 7.7.3 via AirPort Utility v6.3.2 in Mavericks OS X 10.9.5.  The Extreme is on the work network behind a proxy server.  There is no capability to specify proxy information to the AirPort Utility, although my MacBook is properly configured with the proxy server in network settings.  Every time I try to perform "Update" on the Extreme in AirPort Utility, I get "Downloading Firmware" and then "An error occurred while downloading firmware."  I presume the MacBook would be downloading firmware and going thru the proxy to get it, and then applying the firmware update to the extreme, but I can't get the firmware downloaded.

If you or any of your work colleagues has a AE AC model at home.. their laptop would already have the firmware sitting on it.. and as long as you select the right one it should work.. if they upgraded their hardware with that laptop.
In one way the nice thing with Apple is the sheer limited amount of hardware there is..
Apple have just one AC model AE.. the latest firmware is 7.7.3 AFAIK.. I stay away from latest AC products as they are troublesome.
About AirPort base station firmware updates
Does AirPort Utility for OS X keep an archive of all my AirPort base station firmware updates?
AirPort Utility keeps an archive of all Wi-Fi Base Station firmware updates you install, and stores them in ~/Library/Application Support/Apple/AirPort/Firmware

  • Airport Extreme Firmware Level

Can someone please tell me the current firmware version for Airport Extreme? My basestation is at v5.6 and my airport express devices are at v6.2. Is there an update available and, if so, how do I download and install it?
    Thanks in advance.

extreme is 5.7, and express is 6.3
if you go to these pages you'll find links to download the latest software for each (look on the righthand side on the page for the Updates box)...
    http://www.apple.com/airportextreme/
    http://www.apple.com/airportexpress/
the updates should run when downloaded and offer to update airports that they detect
the airport admin utility also allows updates to be applied

  • Airport Extreme Firmware Upgrade

    Hi there.
I had an Airport Extreme that I wasn't using so I brought it to my father's house to set it up as a wireless network for his house.
I plugged it into the DSL modem then into the Airport Extreme. The computer can see it. ( iMac Mid-2014 )
I can't seem to figure out a way to configure it, when I plug it in it asks for me to upgrade to firmware version 7.31, but when I go to the page it suggests there are no download links, only instructions to upgrade the firmware through the Airport Utility which won't let me do anything because I need to upgrade to 7.31.
Any ideas how I could get the firmware upgrade? I have tried to navigate around the Apple Downloads page but there are no downloads that I have found.
This is for an Airport Extreme 802.11n ( Model No. A1142 ) if that is any help.
Let me know if anyone has any idea.
    Thanks.
    JK

The bottom line here is that you are going to need an older version of AirPort Utility 5.x to be able to upgrade the original firmware on the AirPort Extreme.
AirPort Utility 6.x in Lion, Mountain Lion, Mavericks and Yosemite will not work with the older version of firmware that is installed on the AirPort at this time.
However, when you update the AirPort to firmware 7.5.2, 7.6.1, etc.......then.....AirPort Utility 6.x can be used to administer the AirPort Extreme.
So, to get started on updating the firmware on the AirPort Extreme......you will need....or be able to borrow for 10-15 minutes......a Mac running Leopard (10.5.x), Snow Leopard (10.6.x), or a PC that has AirPort Utility installed on the device.

  • I am unable to get Airport Extreme WiFi to work with Windows 8 Sony Laptop

My Airport Extreme WiFi works with my Mac Book Pro, iphones, ipad and DVR's, but will not work WiFi with my Sony VAIO laptop running Windows 8.  Although it does work with the laptop using a ethernet cable.  Has anyone else had this issue and can you please tell me how to resolve the problem?

Windows can have issues with the wireless name.
Make sure the name conforms to windows standard.
    Short, 2-20 characters
    No spaces,
    Pure alphanumeric.
eg AEwifi is a good wireless name.
Fred Blog's Airport Extreme Wireless87AD34 is a really bad name.
Test also by removing the security and just see if you can connect if the short name doesn't help.
WPA2 Personal is really the only security worthy of the name and the password should be mix of upper and lower case plus numbers.. keep it pure alphanumeric also.
Set fixed wireless channels at least for 2.4ghz may help, depending on your location geo standards wise.
Test 11, 6, 1 in that order. With no security briefly. And a short name. (different name on the two bands is also a good idea).
Then wireless is not compatible.. you should download another driver for whatever wireless card the Sony uses.. intel most likely and they have a reputation as lousy. So download latest and a few prior to that as well.
