Allan,
I have Avast virus checker installed, but I disabled file, mail & web browser checking and had the same problem.
I eventually was able to download the manual update DMG and that seems to have installed ok.
Now the Update RAW 6.03 has been installed, but continues to say it needs installing - galling.
Thanks to you and Linc for replying to my original post.

  • Since I downloaded Security Update 2012-006 for Mac OS X 10.6 I have been unable to print or upgrade my Quicken 2006.  How can I fix this?  Hurry!  I need to pay my bills. thank you very much

Since I downloaded Security Update 2012-006 for Mac OS X 10.6 I have been unable to print or upgrade my Quicken 2006.  How can I fix this?  Hurry!  I need to pay my bills.
    thank you very much

Looks like Apple did the same thing with Lion that Microsoft did with Vista. Brought it on the market before it was ready.
I run a MacBook Pro and upgrading to Lion caused me two days of trouble and computer crash. Router settings removed and router blocked. Dongle not recognised, you name it.
In the end, I gave up and using my Snow Leopard installation disk and a Time Machine Backup finally got my computer up and running again. Thanks to Lion, I think I'll stay with OS X 10.6.8 at least it's reliable.

  • Since downloading Security Update 2012, Word for Mac no longer able to save or save as documents;  program freezes after clicking save

Since downloading Security Update 2012, Word for Mac 2004 is no longer able to Save or Save As documents.  After clicking Save or Save As, the program ceases to respond and must be Force Quit.  Any tips on making Word functional again?

There was a second Security Update (v1.1).  Did you download that one.  It was supposed to have fixed the problems created by the prior update.  At least is solved my problems with Quicken 2007 for Mac and AppleWorks 6.

  • Security Update 2012-002 Won't Install

I have been attempting for some time now to install the latest Security Update 2012-002 on my Macbook Pro running OSX v.10.6.8.
Upon restart as the computer is about to fully boot up it simply shuts off. I have run Apple Disk Utility as well as MacTuneUp several times.
The machine seems to be in fine working condition and accepts all other software updates except this one.
Any suggestions or fixes out there?

    Hi Jonathan:
What's your hard drive capacity like? You should try to maintain at least 1-2 GB free.
Also, how long have you had 512MB RAM? Have you recently upgraded? Poor-quality RAM could affect software updates. If this applies, remove any recently installed RAM and try the update. If successful, replace the RAM (though I'd get the RAM replaced).

  • Can't install Security Update 2012-003 for Leopard

I can't install neither Security Update 2012-003 nor Flashback Removal Update. The installer says the software cannot be installed on my machine. I am on a G5 (PPC) iMac running OSX 10.5.8. What's going wrong? By the way, automatic software update did not find any updates for me. I had to download the updates manually from Apple's software support page.

There is no update or removal tool for PPC machines because Flashback won't run or even install on them.
You should still disable Java in your browsers as some other malware may come along that will work.

  • Downloaded security update 2014-002 now computer is freezing. Can I uninstall it?

Can I uninstall security update for Lion 2014-002? Afte repairing permissions before and after the download, the computer is freezing and needs restarting if not in use for several minutes.

These instructions must be carried out as an administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Enter "BOOT_TIME" (without the quotes) in the search box. Note the timestamps of those log messages, which refer to the times when the system was started. Now clear the search box and scroll back in the log to the last boot time after  you had the problem. Select the messages logged before the boot, while the system was unresponsive or was failing to shut down. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V. Please include the BOOT_TIME message at the end of the log extract.
If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message.
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
Still in Console, look under System Diagnostic Reports for crash or panic logs, and post the entire contents of the most recent one, if any. In the interest of privacy, I suggest you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if present (it may not be.) Please don’t post any other kind of report—it will be very long and not helpful.

  • Can't Download Security Update

I have tried to download Security Update 2008-006 (intel) using Software Update and also Apple's download web page. It starts to download and gets about 15% downloaded and then stops. After a minute the down load cuts off as the connection is timed out using Time Warner Cable.
    Any suggestions to fix this?

    HI Lloyd,
Sometimes a software update can't do it's job if there isn't sufficient free drive space. Select your MacintoshHD icon on your Desktop, then click Command + I The Get Info window will open. Where it says: General click the black arrow. Look where it says: Capacity and Available. Rule of thumb, never allow available drive space to fall below 15% of the total drive.
Also, try deleting the Software Update preference file. com.apple.softwareupdate.plist
/Users/YourName/Library/Preferences. From the Preferences folder, drag that file to the Trash, empty the Trash and reboot. Sometimes that helps also.
Always run Disk Utility (Applications/Utilities) and Repair Disk Permissions BEFORE and AFTER any software updates or upgrades.

  • Can't install Security Update 2008-002

On my MacBook, I'm trying to install Security Update 2008-002. As soon as it goes to download it, I get an error saying "You do not have appropriate access privileges." It says the installer package is being placed in the trash and to reinstall I should fish it out of the trash thru the finder.
My account has Admin privileges and I was able to install several other packages at the same time the attempt to install the security update was made. The installer package is not making its way into the trash... in fact the error seems to be thrown before anything is even downloaded.
Also, I've been able to install this successfully on my iMac, MacBook Air, and older MacBook.
    Any ideas would be appreciated.
    Thanks!

This happened to me, too, I think, with a recent security update.
As I recall, I downloaded the update from the Apple website and that one installed ok.

  • Security Update 2012-002 Does not install

Every time I go to download this update I always get an error.  It downloads but then upon restart it bombs saying it cannot expand or there is a corruption of the files.
I have repaired permissions, I have updated the Safari update and remote desktop just fine.  Just this doesn't work.  I've also deleted the software.update pref file as suggested in other articles.  All to no avail.

10.5.5 is very antiquated.  10.5.8 as you read was just barely patched in the last week, and hasn't seen patches since before last July, where several patches for 10.6 have already been made available.  Remember 10.7.4 is the current operating system.    Last July was when 10.7 was released.  The only reason you should have 10.5.5 is because you don't need anything newer, or you aren't sure that anything newer will work with what you have, or can't afford anything newer.  Only 16% of the Macintosh community are running some version of 10.5.  To determine if you could use an upgrade, see these tips:

  • HT1222 Why has Apple not either removed Security Update 2012-002 or updated it?

It hosed my iMac and a Mac Mini; kernal panic on the first, freeze on startup on the second. iMac is a 2 ghz Core 2 Duo, the Mac Mini a 1.83 ghz Core 2 Duo. I get tired of getting notices to update when I know my system will be brought to its knees if I do.

It had no such effect on mine. There are always some problems with updates that hit some users randomly. And sometimes Apple really screws up, but I don't remember hearing too much about this one here. Seemed, for the most part, rather problem free.
See my recommendations for updating. You could try re-applying it. Might help.

  • Security Update 2008-002 (Universal)

    Hi
I've just downloaded Security Update 2008-002 (Universal) from Apple's web-site. However the installer tells me:
You cannot install Security Update 2008-002 (Universal) on this volume. This volume does not meet the requirements for this update.
The volume in question is the hard drive for the computer which has 10.5.2 functioning extremely well and over 100 GB of free space. I haven't had any problems with updates before on this OS. I always download from Apple web-site I never install using "Software Update", however I do use "Software Update" to prompt me to install updates.
I wonder if anyone else has had a problem installing Security Update 2008-002 (Universal)?
    Thank you.

I am never one to jump on a software update. I always wait a bit.
Like you, I use the SU tool as a "suggestion" and DL the combo from Apple's website.
You might consider downloading it again - it could be corrupt.
You can also DL the Leopard version and see if that installs.
We will soon find out if others have problems, and if so, then we all will wait; otherwise we have to trouble-shoot your system.

  • Restarting taking forever after Security Update 2014-002

I just downloaded Security Update 2014-002 and my Mac Mini is taking forever to restart after the download and installation process finished. I'm running the latest version of Mavericks and my Mac is stuck on restart! What should I do?
    Need help! Thanks.

Tap the space bar on your keyboard once. The dispaly may be sleeping.
The first restart after the update here was longer than usual but I restarted one more time, it was back to normal boot time.
After the restart, open the App Store then select Updates from the menu.
It should say:  Verio 1.0 Installed Apr 22, 2014
