HT1222 i cannot update my iOS 5.1

Hello....i cannot update my iOS 5.1 it keeps sending error....

I found the answer! I quit Dropbox!
My iPad updated to iOS 5.1 just fine (invisibly, even: iCloud) but my iPhone 4 wouldn't, even though both are on my same home network. Even plugged into my MacBook Pro, it wouldn't update the phone—until I quit Dropbox! Then I went straight over to iTunes, clicked my phone under Devices (left-hand pane), and clicked the Update button in the center of the main pane. The download started right away.

  • HT1222 I cannot update to iOS 5.1 these days, every time I try, it just tell me an error occurs.

I plug iphone to mac, and click update, and then endless wating.
if I use iphone itself to update, it just tell me unable to check for update

    Try changeing your DNS
This appears tobe a common problem with this update not sure why....
If you are getting the error message "Unable to check for update" when you try an OTA (over the air update)
    Change DNS Servers
    Settings -> Wi-Fi
Click the blue arrow on your connected network
Delete everything in DNS and replace it with 208.67.222.222, 208.67.220.220 (These are from OpenDNS you can use Googles public DNS if you want 8.8.8.8, 8.8.4.4)
    Try again
If this works, you will probably want to remove the WiFi network using "Forget This Network" and then reconnect to it to get your original DNS servers back. Alternatively, make a note of the original DNS servers before deleting them and replace it after you are done.

    1) You asked "Does she need to reconnect to that itunes/computer and if so what do we need to do to remove this folder of pics from her ipod?" Yes, you have to connect the iPod to that computer and go to the Photos pane for the iPod in iTunes and uncheck sync photos and the click on synce/apply. In the future do not check sync photos.
iOS and iPod: Syncing photos using iTunes
    2)
Create a NEW account for using these instructions. Make sure you follow the instructions. Many do not and if you do not you will not get the None option. You must use an email address that you have not used with Apple before.
Creating an iTunes Store, App Store, iBookstore, and Mac App Store account without a credit card
Then on the iPod go to
    - Settings>Messages>Send and receive and sign out your ID and sign into hers. Make sure that only her ID email address is listed.
    - Settings>FaceTime sign out of your ID and sign into hers. Make sure that under You can be reached at only her ID email address is listed
    - Settings>iCloud and sign out and sign in with hers
Contnue to use the commpn ID/account for Settings>iTunes and App stores.

  • HT4623 I cannot update to iOS 8, please help!

I cannot update to iOS 8 because i get the not enough storage error, even though i have 4.6GB free, according to usage. What can i do? Except using itunes because i'm on holiday and i do not have acces to a computer.

I see, but how large is this update? Aren't 4GB enough? This is pretty weird
It seems to have ranged from about 4.6 to (in my case on a 5S) 5.6 gigs. As with any software download, the amount of space required to download and install the update directly on the phone is much larger than the amount the software actually takes up.

  • HT4623 If I don't have a software update option, does that mean I cannot update to iOS 5?

I do not have a software update option in my settings.  Does this mean I cannot update my iOS version?

The option to update without the computer (Over the air) was made available with iOS 5. If your iDevice is using a version of iOS lower than 5, you will need to use iTunes on your syncing computer to perform the upgrade. Use the Apple link below as a guide for the upgrade.

  • I have the iPhone 3 (iOS 4.2.1) and I cannot update to iOS 5.

I have the iPhone 3 (iOS 4.2.1) and I cannot update to iOS 5. iTunes tells me my current version is the latest version. I have the latest version of iTunes.
    Any advice?

The iPhone 3G came out about 4 years ago, and the hardware they had at that time can not support the latest and greatest iOS 5.

  • Months later and I still cannot update to IOS 5.1!!!

You name it, Ive tried it.  Done all the different trouble shooting bits and bobs, ie uninstalled security, itunes reinstalled ,disabled apple mobile, used a different pc, etc yet still i cannot update my ipad?
I even ventured to my local Apple store and the assistant had the same problem and couldn't help me either!
Is it only my Ipad having this problem?  Why can't the Apple people see this device either??
Apart from throwing the thing in the bin does anyone else have any suggestions of what I can do that might work please?
Hoping someone will suggest something that I haven't already tried and will work.
Thanks in hopeful anticipation but i'm not holding my breath........!
    Thank you..
Below I have pasted the last thing I tried that still didnt work...
From the Start menu, click All Programs and click Accessories.
Click Run. A Run window (command prompt) appears.
Type msconfig in the Open field and click OK.
If Windows needs your permission to continue, click Continue. The System Configuration Utility opens.
    Click the General tab.
       Select the "Selective Startup" option.
Deselect the "Load Startup Items" checkbox.
Note: This step requires disabling third-party System Services and Startup Items, which can prevent some software or OEM hardware on your computer from working correctly. For example, this can affect the CD/DVD control buttons on portable computers or prevent wireless keyboards and mice from functioning. This is only required during troubleshooting to help isolate third-party conflicts with Apple software.
    Click the Startup tab.
Select the "iTunes" and "QuickTime" checkboxes in the list.
    Click the Services tab.
Make sure that "Hide All Microsoft Services" is selected.
    Click Disable All.
Note: If you are troubleshooting an issue related to iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch, select the Apple Mobile Device checkbox.
    Click OK.
Click Restart. After restarting (and logging in to Windows), a message may appear stating that Windows has blocked startup programs and indicates the Blocked startup programs icon in the notification area (far right) of the taskbar. Click the message.
Click the Blocked startup programs icon, select Run blocked program and select System Configuration Utility.
If Windows needs your permission to continue, click Continue. A window appears confirming that "You have used the System Configuration Utility to make changes to the way Windows starts." Click OK. The System Configuration Utility appears. Do not click OK here as this will prompt you to restart again. First try to reproduce the issue you were having.
If following these steps resolves the issue, you may want to use the System Configuration Utility to turn on the third-party System Services and Startup Items one or a few at a time (restarting your computer after turning on the item or items) to identify which System Service or Startup Item is causing the conflict. You can turn all of them back on by selecting the Normal Startup option under the General tab of the System Configuration Utility window, but please note that this may cause the issue to recur.
    Additional Information
If the issue is still occurring with Selective Startup mode, third-party security software may still be operating regardless of the state of Msconfig. Follow iTunes for Windows: Troubleshooting security software issues.

If you are currently running an iOS lower than 5.0, connect the iPad to the computer, open iTunes. Then select the iPad under the Devices heading on the left, click on the Summary tab and then click on Check for Update.
Tip - If connected to your computer, you may need to disable your firewall and anitvirus software temporarily.  Then download and install the iOS update. Be sure and backup your iPad before the iOS update. After you update an iPad (except iPad 1) to iOS 6.x, the next update can be installed via wifi (i.e., not connected to your computer).

  • HT4623 Cannot update from iOS 6.1.3 to iOS 7...says that I cannot verify because I am not connected to the internet when I am clearly connected to the internet. I've tried from home and school.  Now what?

I am trying to update an iPad 2 to iOS 7.  It hasn't updated since iOS 6.1.3.  When I try to update it, I get a msg box that tells me I cannot verify because I am not connected to the internet.  This is not true because I AM connected to the internet here at school.  I've tried at home and it does the same thing.  What to do now?

Try this  - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)

  • Cannot Update From iOS Beta 1 to Beta 2?

Well I've got the iOS Beta 1 Software on my iPod Touch 4th Generation and I know it's the first Beta. It's great but when I go to software update, it says it's up to date on iOS 6.0 without offering me an update to Beta 2. I am positive it's the first Beta. Is there any other way of checking which Beta I have just to be sure or another way i can update without restoring? In General Settings under about I get this for the version: 6.0 (10A5316k)
I'm pretty sure that is Beta 1. So how come I cannot update?!?
    Thank You for any help.

Pls. use the confidential iOS 6 beta forums, thanks.

  • IPhone cannot update to iOS 5

my iTunes won't let me update to iOS 5, it didn't let me update a while ago but I didn't mind it and it is for the same reason, this error message keeps coming up  "iPhone cannot update because software server could not be contacted," I've googled it and there are solutions for Windows computer but I am on a mac! and i've tried so many things it is really frustrating! It will also not restore to any firmware I've downlaoded iOS 5 and tried to restore that it the firmware file, but it also comes with the same error message!

I assume that you are not having any issues going to websites like apple.com, or any website in general. One thing that I might suggest is to go to the system preferences/security & Privacy/Firewall and turn off the firewall if it is on.
The second thing that I can recommend is to make sure you are, when in iTunes pressing the "restore" button. If you know where you downloaded the .ipsw file for iOS 5 then you can always hold down the option key while pressing the restore button. That will bring up a window where you can select your .ipsw file and "force" it to restore.
ONE WORD OF ADVICE.... MAKE SURE YOU BACK UP !!! an easy way to do this is to hold down the "control" key with clicking on your phone in the left column.
    I sure hope this helps!
