If you mean that it doesn't show the Settings > General > Software Update option then that only appears when you have iOS 5+ installed, with iOS 4 you will need to do the update via your computer's iTunes.
Connect the iPad to your computer's iTunes and copy any purchases off the iPad to your computer via File > Transfer Purchases. You may also want to copy photos and any important documents off the iPad as well e.g. via the file sharing section at the bottom of the device's apps tab when connected to iTunes, via wifi, email, dropbox etc - they should be included in the backup, but it's best to have a copy of them outside of the backup just in case. You can then force a backup of the iPad by right-clicking the iPad 'Device' on the left-hand side of iTunes and selecting 'Backup'.
Then start the update by selecting the iPad on the left-hand side of iTunes, and on the Summary tab on the right-hand side clicking the Check For Updates button

Your iPad should be updated to iOS 6.0.1 (which is the only version that is 'signed' by Apple), so you will lose the built-in YouTube app and the Maps app will change - but google have app versions in the store.

Sounds like you actually have a 1st generation as those cannot update beyond iOS 3.1.3.

Try rebooting the device. It should be in Settings right under General. You may need to go to Settings<General<Reset<Reset All Settings (don't erase data) and setup as a new device. The iCloud login should appear during this step. Just keep setting it up, then go back to settings and see if the iCloud tab appears.

Year view is too small. You have to be on at least month view.

If it is the same app for the iPod and the iPad (universal or iPod/iPhone app) and not a iPad only app, the only way is to restore the iPad from the backup of the iPod. That will wipe out all the app data currently on the iPad though.
If the iPad is an iPad only app, then there is no way. -

Did you try a reset yet?
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.
If that doesn't revive the iPad, you could try restoring the device next.

I typically don't like to recommend something like this, but I have read on these forums where some users state that smacking the iPad on the back can jog the screen into working again. The fall seems to have caused the problem and I imagine that the logic behind this suggestion is that if the impact caused the problem, another impact could help to fix it. I m just not a big believer in smacking expensive tech devices. -

just brand new since sept. 2012 IPAD 2If it's showing the red disabled screen then you will need to connect the iPad to the computer that you normally sync to and you should then be able to reset the iPad and re-sync your content to it (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1212) - you may need to put the iPad into recovery mode in order for iTunes to be able to reset it : http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1808
If you do it via a different computer then :
If you restore on a different computer that was never synced with the device, you will be able to unlock the device for use and remove the passcode, but your data will not be present. -
IPad 2 (3G) doesn't show photo stream
We have an iMac running Lion, two iPad 2s running iOS 5 and a iPhone 4s and all are connected to iCloud. All can take photos and post to the photo stream but the iPad 3G (the other is only wi-fi) won't display the photo stream at all. Even images that it takes doesn't show in the stream on that device. The strange thing is that images it takes show up in the photo stream on the other devices so I know it is connecting correctly...but it just doesn't show the images at all. The photo stream page is completely empty. Has anyone else had this problem or know how to rectify it? Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks in advance. :)Both toggle switches (in photos and icloud) are set to utilize photostream so that isn't the fix. I am seeing this being a problem in a lot other forums. Unfortunately, what I am not seeing is any kind of real solution being put forward expecially from Apple. Since the iPad is still under warranty I may just call Apple and see what they have to say about it.

If not, try restarting the computer.
On the iPhone, try resetting > Hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home button down at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

Set up of new iMac - need to sync existing iPhone & iPad but cannot
I have set up a new iMac and cannot get any of my itunes backups to sync my iphone and ipad to the new mac. My iphone & ipad were all synced to my old windows laptop via itunes and everything synchronized - mail, calendar, music etc. Now I am setting up a new iMac and I signed up the itunes via iCloud. This has only set up anything purchased through itunes and about 90% of my music was not purchased through itunes so most of it is missing. So I have spoken to apple support on the phone and they guided me to transfer my old windows media to the new iMac using migration assistant. Unfortunately this wouldn't connect, so I am back to square one.
So now I have manually moved all of my photos and music manually using an external hard drive - so that has taken over the largest amount of files to the new iMac but my issue still remains that nothing will sync to the new iMac. I am totally lost now and have no idea how to approach it.
I tried to back up the iPad and iPhone to iCloud but even that won't happen - so basically everything is still syncing to my old windows laptop and nothing is syncing to my new iMac.
Does anyone have any suggestions how to approach and where to start. I am based in Dubai and there is no apple store here so I can't even take it all in and just get it all sorted and I am not getting much help on the phone as the tech support is 9-5pm work days only and I am at work and not in front of the iMac to try any troubleshooting.
Any suggestions are WELCOME!
thanks,sign out of the itunes on the PC and then sign into the itunes on the ipad iphone and imac w/ the same apple id make sure that all 3 devices are authorized to the same apple id and then you should be able to start syncing the phone and pad to the imac.

What is the problem you are trying to solve? If your Brother's iPad 2 iOS is not at revision 6.0.1, it needs to be updated.
If you both have an iPad 2, then they both should have come with the same Apps, regardless of where they were bought. There are slight differences between models that have a cellular internet connection, and models that are WiFi only.
If his iPad 2 has a dictation App, he may have downloaded the Dragon Dictation App from the iTunes App Store as Tom suggested. You would need to do the same with your iPad 2, if you want dictation capability, unless you both share the same Apple ID. If that were the case, all of your purchased Apps should be available to all compatible iPads, iPhones and iPods that are synchronized to iTunes on the same computer.
