I am infected with the fake Flashback Adobe installer. I deleted everything associated with it, ran my Intego Virus Barrier 6, installed the authentic Adobe Flashback and changed my email password in my Mac mail and in the mail program from my ISP but the viral emails keep on coming.
When will there be a fix for this?

A Google search can reveal a variety of alternatives on how the remove the trojan should your computer get infected. This can get you started. Or the preferred method is to use Apple's protection tool: Flashback Malware Removal Tool 1.0.
Or, open Software Update. If you do not have the Apple protection software installed it will download and install it via Software Update. If no update appears that means you either already have it installed or it isn't needed for your system. The software is only available for Leopard, Snow Leopard, and Lion versions of OS X.

For general anti-virus protection I only recommend using ClamXav.

You are right — insofar as this forum is for the Shockwave Player, the plug-in for content created with Director.
However, many years ago Macromedia decided to call their brand new player for Flash content "Shockwave Flash", presumably in an effort to piggy-back on the mind-share that Shockwave had already gained. This has caused endless confusion ever since, especially now that the Flash Player keeps crashing. Take my advice and (search then) post on the Flash Player forum — you'll see any number of threads about crashes, presumably with some recommended fixes too

Here is the fix for A12E1....
On your computer you will create a NEW USER ACCOUNT
Be sure to give it ADMINISTRATOR access
Go to Adobe.com and download CRETIVE CLOUD, it will install the CC as well as the ADOBE APPLICATION MANAGER
When the install is complete and you've downloaded all of the programs you want SWITCH BACK to your old USER ACCOUNT and the programs will all be in there ready to roll.
I never thought I would be done with this giant pain but it really does work

Uninstall the application, reinstall it. Also download the update manually from the Adobe site. Without knowing anything about your system, it doesn't get any more specific than that. And please ask such questions in the product specific forum next time.

Anyone know when Mac will have the fix for the slow internet due the 10.8.2. upgrade?

I just uped to 10.8.2 on a Mac pro, and know the internet throughput has dropped from a Ping of 87, download 24.24 Mbps , upload 3.82 Mbps to a ping of 248, download .37 and up of .17. I have plugged two other Macs (one at a time) into the same network cable as above and got the per 10.8.2 upgrade speeds. Seems that one must conclude that the slow internet issue must be due to the 10.8.2 upgrade. When will Mac have the fix for this?

I have had this problem for a few months. I am using version 3.6.12, have always updated when noticed, couldn't find a resolution for the problem and have been waiting to see if the fix came with one of the updates, but it continues. Firefox will just stop working, if a video is playing, the sound still goes on for a while, but I notice the crash if I go to a screen and it fades upon a click with the revolving wheel turning... then note that my Windows Vista system say, FIREFOX NOT RESPONDING. I read a few similar reports, however, referencing specific plugins, and one frequently mentioned in replys was the Adobe plugin. The suggestion there was to downgrade to 3.6.6. I have since done this, I will update if it worked or not. I disabled automatic updates of Firefox due to this problem. I hope to see Firefox notify users of the fixes the next updates will contain. With all due respect to Firefox, if this downgrade works, I will hesitate to update until I know this problem is corrected as it is to severe and troublesome. Thank you.

Here's the FIX for one quicktime installation error

Can't believe this isn't mentioned in here anywhere or in any of the threads on the Web. I got help from the Ubergeeks on the Well, where I should have started in the first place.
If you can't install because Quicktime won't install (error -3, error 1402 etc.) and you can't get permissions to enter the registry keys...
Run: regedit
navigate to the folder mentioned in the error message. For me it was HKEYLocalMachine\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\Quicktime
This seems to be the most often-cited culprit.
Right-click on the Quicktime folder. Select Permissions. Hit Advanced. Click the "Owner" tab. Click on yourself in the lower window. Hit OK.
Install your software and enjoy.
This may not fix everyone's problems, but I bet it fixes the vast majority of those that are similar to the one I had, which I spend hours and hours trying to fix before I simply asked someone who knew what they were doing.
Maybe if the folks at Apple see this, they can, you know, add it to their troubleshooting guide. It's a very common problem.

In case anyone is reading this thread, I found a fix for this problem. In another discussion thread, a nice person referenced an article at http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93865 that explains what to do with these kinds of permission errors (1402 and 1406). I followed the instructions and also made the changes to the specific line item I had a problem with. Installation ran successfully although there were a couple of error messages about not being able to unregister a couple of .dlls, which apparently is not fatal to the installation.

Apple has found the fix for the whine.

After sending my MacBook Pro of to repair and getting it back without the whine being gone I have come to the conclusion that they need to include ear plugs with every MacBook Pro they sell. This is the first Apple product I have had any issues with (5th apple in 2 years) in addition this is my first dealings with Apple Care and let me say it was the WORST experience I have ever had. I guess I hold Apple to a higher standard then Apple itself does.

What noise do you have ? The screen induced noise or the CPU noise ?
I only have the display related noise (inverter). I demanded that it be replaced as I found ou it is NOT part of the logic board. I said I would pay for the cost of the replacement and did not want to get the "Unable to reproduce compalint" response.
The Apple Specialist said that would not necessary, he would request the replacement.
He did indicate that the engineers said it "normal" I said no way.
I have a box on the way.
When and if they repair it I will note the part number on the Service Details report to all.
Crossing Fingers! No fix and it is E-Bay time.

Okay, I think, after literally about two dozen reinstallations of Windows, that I have narrowed the problem (all of them - Depending on other settings, I can reproduce just about all of the complaints I've seen here, but this one seems to cause the actual underlying flaw that the rest simply modify) down to a single BIOS (v3.3) setting:
Set your MPS mode to 1.1 (this requires turning APIC on first, and you should then leave it on). You might want to clear CMOS first (note that neither of the "official" methods actually do a full clear, you must unplug the system and take the battery out for a few hours.
As I understand it, this should have no real meaning on a single-processor board, but it makes a world of difference. I had commented about a week ago that turning off APIC seemed to help, but not entirely. I now see that I should have explored that partial fix just a little bit further. Well, at least I finally got it right.
If anyone can confirm this on their own box with a similar setup to my own, it would probably help a LOT of people out.
Note that I have not tried the 3.4 BIOS, and since I finally have this miserable board working, I probably won't flash the BIOS again until/unless I absolutely need to for dual core support (if MSI even decides to support them on the RS480M2 line).
As a warning, you will need to reinstall windows after changing this - at the very least, a repair install - in order to fully benefit from it (and quite likely, Windows won't even boot anymore after changing this, until you reinstall). With XP pro (SP2 slipstreamed), you should only need the MSI drivers for the audio, video, and SMBus (and I installed AMD's Athlon 64 drivers for XP as well, though you don't totally need to, unless you want C&Q to work correctly).
If a couple people post negative responses, I'll post my full BIOS settings some someone to try. But, I think I reduced the problem to this one setting.

I'm all for tweaks that stablize the ATI motherboard. On the surface I don't see how changing the MPS from version 1.4 to 1.1 will do anything. MPS version relates to Multi-Processor Specification. It should only affect multi processor boards. I would be surprised if it actually did anything on the RS480M2. Especially since it is such a legacy setting that only affected operating systems prior to Windows NT.
That being said, I'm game to try other settings and there is the remote chance that this change could affect how IRQs are handled by the board. The following is a quote from Intel about the differences in MPS 1.1 vs 1.4.
"MPS version 1.4 added extended configuration tables to improve support for multiple PCI bus configurations"
I still have a PCI TV Tuner problem that I think is related to IRQ conflicts with the onboard NIC. I'll try it and see if it does anything for me.

When is Apple going to fix the VPN in Mavericks? Keeps disconnecting, after random (but typically short, an hour or two) up-time. It used to stay connected for days pre-Mavericks (same computer, same router, same VPN destination).

It will not connect to your laptop ( except for internet tethering, if you subscribe to this service from your carrier) ot any other iphone (except from within supported Apps from the app store).
Most have no issue with bluetooth, when using with supported devices.
It seems you have an issue with your bluetooth. Is you car stereo in discover mode? Have you talked to the make of your car stereo to see if they support iphone?

Fix for the Identity change with Siri

After trying all different ways to sync my phone and my wife's Iphone through the cloud sharing contacts and calenders, I think I have the fix for the identity change that Siri does. I turned off the contact sync on iCloud and it stopped swapping identities. I think that sharing contacts makes the iCloud think there is only one user. Downside of the cloud but not worth the hassle factor. I will sync contacts through iTunes.

What model of Mac? I have a MBP running 10.7.3 and do not have that issue. From the other couple of posts I've seen about it, it seems to be maybe an issue with some iMacs? Have your tried searching the Lion or iMac forums for similar issues, just to see if anyone has hit on why it is happening?

A fix for the crash problem.

Firefox has been extremely annoying on an XP machine with it's constant crash reports requiring uninstall and reinstall several times till it starts working again. However, periodically repairing Firefox was worth the headache for the benefit of Firefox’s performance. Mozilla Firefox 4.0 Beta 8 was installed hoping it contained the fix for the crash report problem; it didn't. BUT, the new crash report post-mortum file list provides another means to identify a probable cause. The file list was discovered after about the third crash and it was noted that Firefox was attempting to load an internet filter dll file from C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM instead of C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32 which had the correct version. Evidently, the internet filter program update placed the newer version dll in C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32 and did nothing with the older version dll in C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM or the registry mapping. A copy of the newer version dll was placed in C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM and it has been smooth sailing with Firefox ever since. Thanks for adding the post –mortum file list; it provided a means to identify and fix the problem. Firefox is working great and the snail’s pace Internet Explorer 8 has been retired. Thanks again!

Current recommendations is turn Java off. Generally you don't need it. Do not confuse it with Javascript which you do need for your browsers.
You can disable in the browser you are using and/or more globally using the Java Preferences too (in Utilities), General tab (uncheck the checkboxes).

If it turns out you need it for some specific application or web site that you trust then turn it on only when running that application or visiting that site. If your work requires Java be enabled then at least disable it in your browsers.
If you do need to run Java, be sure that you pick up the Java Software Update 7 posted recently that takes 10.6 and 10.7 up to Java SE 6 revision 31.
