HT1229 How to move a 115 GB Library folder to a new location

I have a 115 GB iPhoto library, and every time that I try to copy the library the sistem give my these error: "
The Finder can’t complete the operation because some data in “iPhoto Library TMF” can’t be read or written.
(Error code -36)"

You're welcome.
Then there's a locked or damaged file within the Library.
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Use the option to check and repair library permissions.
Then try again.
If that fails, a simple workaround is to use any back up app that works directly in the finder to do the job - Chronosync  being one, but there are many others.

  • HT1229 How to bring iPhotos including faces and albums etc, to new installation?

HT1229: iPhoto: How to move the Library folder to a new location
I have installed all Programs on new drive and want to bring in my iPhotos including faces and albums etc. Could I transfer iPhotos from the old drive (in an external caddy) using copy, and paste into the new system??
I have copied all the photos but now these do not carry all the Albums, Face names etc.
The old system (which was running agonisingly slow) had been updated to Lion from Snow Leopard but the current new install of Snow Leopard will not allow the upgrade to Lion.
    Any advice appreciated

Are you sure your Macbook meets the hardware requirements for Lion?
In order to install Mac OS X 10.7 you will need:
Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
    2GB of RAM
Mac OS X 10.6.6 or later with the Mac App Store installed
At least 4GB of additional disk space to accommodate the download, but more is obviously recommended

Just drag the file from the Download folder to the folder of your choice in Finder. If you are using Safari you can designate a new default download destination in Safari>Preferences>General tab, 'Save Downloads to...'. Other browsers should have a similar option in their preferences.

  • HT1229 How to move iPhoto Library to a NAS backup?

How do I move iPhoto Library, which is now stored on a separate backup hard drive, to a new LaCie 2Big NAS backup? My iPhoto library is large, 73GB, and I have kept it on a separate 250GB backup up hard drive connected directly to my iMac; the iPhoto Library is not in my Pictures folders, as is usual. The 250GB is full, and I now want to store the iPhoto Library on a new LaCie 2Big NAS backup hard drive.
I assume I could move the Library back to Pictures folder on the iMac, so that the Library is stored on my iMac, and then it would be backed up on LaCie, but I would rather not take up all that space on the iMac. How do I store it on the LaCie? Usually to move iPhoto Library, you locate it, and then drag to new location. The LaCie does appear in my Finder. Should I drag and drop it?
I asked LaCie support, and they said the following:
If you do intend to place data on the share that needs to be accessed directly by an application on your computer (such as iTunes or iPhoto), however, then you might want to check with support for the software application itself for advice on the best way to accomplish this. It is important that such an application is able to locate the files once you relocate them to the NAS drive, or else the program will not function properly.
I want to access the Library through iPhoto. The LaCie is not connected directly to iMac, but instead connected via ethernet to my Airport Extreme.
    Suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Armando

I experienced the same frustration when i bought my Iomega NAS (which I do not recommed by the way).
I wanted my iPhoto library to be stored on it, thats the main reason i bought it.
But as you have discovered the library connot be stored on a non Mac formatted disc.
So I began to store my photos in a logical folder structure (based on events) on the NAS and access that folder structure from some other software (Adobe bridge).
The PC users in my household could therefore also access this folder stucture and view all the photos. Bonus.
I wasn't satisfied though. I wanted to use iPhoto. Location, Faces, Events, simple editing, etc.
So I created a new iPhoto library on my Mac and then went to iPhoto preferences / Advanced and UNTICKED the 'Copy items to the iPhoto Library'. This creates what I think is called a reference library. This kind of library has some pros and cons but for me it is all pros.
Then simply drag your file structure from your nas into iPhoto and voila. All your photos and any home movies are added to iPhoto but accessed from the NAS.
I continue to add new photos into the event based file structure on the NAS and then drag the new folder across to iPhoto.
This also has the added benifit in that you don't need iPhoto to view the photos (PC users)
This method works perfectly for me. Enabling me to use iPhoto AND my NAS.
    Hope this helps.

  • How to move a large messy library to an external hard drive?

I have a fairly large library that is about 120 GB. My disk has absolutely no space left, and I would like to add more to iTunes. I have not been consolidating my files up to this point, which means most of my files are in various folders throughout my computer, but they are all still in itunes (I normally just drag and drop them in). I can't consolidate them now because I don't have space to copy them all again. I bought an external hard drive large enough to hold my whole library but I can't figure out how to move everything over while keeping the correct tags, ratings, etc. and even keeping all of the music that isn't in the iTunes media folder. Can somebody help me please? I don't think I will be able to add albums to the folder one by one and delete them as I go, because I have so many. Thank you!

  • How to move .plist files from /Library/Preferences

    Hi,
We are trialing using software called Deep Freeze to take a snap shot of the OS that is restored upon reboot thus removing the majority of configuration changes and thus reducing the amount of support calls.
When setting up the software you have the option to create a "Thaw Space" that users can modify at will and the changes will persist over the reboot. Upon creating this space you are able to "map" certain directories such as Documents, Desktop and Library to the Thaw Space.
Initially we did not move the Library folder over so that all changes to wallpapers/screensaves/dock/finder toolbar etc. were restored upon reboot, which ultimately is what we wanted to do from the beginning. This however produced a number of problems of data not being retained over the reboot when we needed it to:
    - iCal data
    - application specific settings (eg. toolbar settings in neooffice)
    - sorting email in apple mail by a field (eg. receive date)
etc. And are continually finding new problems.
So in the end we simply set the entire Library to be mapped to the Thaw Space, however this sets us back to square one in that the users can still change the dock, screensaver, wallpaper etc.
It is my understanding that the files are stored in .plist files in <user>/Library/Preferences. I tried moving individual .plist files out of the Thaw Space and then creating alias files pointing to them, however these were simply deleted and replaced on reboot.
So my question is how would I go about moving a .plist file out of /Library/Preferences
    Cheers

It would seem to me that the problem lies with the Deep Freeze software. Changing system files in system directories is not a good idea. Why not contact Deep Freeze and have them fix their software rather than possibly mucking up your own OS.
I would also recommend that you either update your profile or your OS. 10.5.1 had some bugs that were fixed over the years. It's always good to have the latest OS installed.

  • How to move photos from one library to another?

    Hi,
I currently have 2 libraries and I want to move photos from one library into the other.
How do I have to proceed?
    Thx
    A

We're thinking of adding a library copy feature soon.  Hoping you can share some info here to help us understand how this might best work fo you.   Here's a few questions I have:
    - What do you use the 2 libraries for?
      - Why do you want to copy?
      - Do you have albums, favorites, and comments associated with the photos?  Do you want them copied?
Anything else that you are hoping to accomplish here?
    Thanks in advance,
    Peter

  • How to move my entire iphoto library and all albums and mobileme galleries to my new tower?

What is the best way to move my entire iphoto library and all albums and mobileme galleries to my new tower?
I want to move it smoothly without hours of reconfiguring albums and Mobileme galleries.  Already have a timemachine backup of the older iMac with the iphoto library.

Connect the two Macs together (network, firewire target mode, etc) and drag the iPhoto library intact as a single entity from the old Mac to the pictures folder of the new Mac - launch iPhoto on the new mac and it will open the library and convert it as needed and you will be ready move forward.

  • How to move all files from a folder for a user to a centralized folder on a core server with a GP

    Hello,
I was curious if someone know how to move all the files of a user "local" profile on a Terminal Server to that of a centralized server where the "local" profile of like the user desktop, favorites, setting, etc are stored in the event
the local profile on the TS become corrupt it can pull from this server...
The problem I have is no matter what I tell users to save there files to our Y drive that is a folder that is synced
across all 6 of our TS servers, users still store files on there desktops, so as you can imagine if one day they are on one server, then next day they could be on another and there files aren't the same.... hence the reason why I want to move all there files
to the centralized server so when I redo the profiles from scratch on the TS server in the farm they suck files from the core server and have all of the files they are used to having....
So I was curious and I've heard from some this is possible in a GP, but I'd like to move the contents of all 6 TS for
each user or if I have to d this on  per user basis I will, just looking for a way to move the files....

    Hi Trevor,
To move all users’ desktop to a server, we can use Folder Redirection to do this. The path for Folder Redirection is:
    [Group Policy Object Name]\User Configuration\Policies\Windows Settings\Folder Redirection
In this situation, we can choose to redirect desktop to the root of a network file share or a folder on a network share.
Regarding how to configure this, the following article can be referred to for more information.

    Hope it helps.

  • How do I transfer existing music library on to a new computer?

How do I transfer an existing music library from one computer to another?

These are two possible approaches that will normally work to move an existing library to a new computer.
    Method 1
Backup the library with this User Tip.
Deauthorize the old computer if you no longer want to access protected content on it.
Restore the backup to your new computer using the same tool used to back it up.
Keep your backup up-to-date in future.
    Method 2
Connect the two computers to the same network. Share your <User's Music> folder from the old computer and copy the entire iTunes library folder into the <User's Music> folder on the new one. Again, deauthorize the old computer if no longer required.
Both methods should give the new computer a working clone of the library that was on the old one. As far as iTunes is concerned this is still the "home" library for your devices so you shouldn't have any issues with iTunes wanting to erase and reload.
I'd recommend method 1 since it establishes an ongoing backup for your library.
If you have an iOS device that syncs with contact & calendar data on your computer you should migrate this information too. If that isn't possible create a dummy entry of each type in your new profile and iTunes should offer to merge the existing data from the device into the computer, otherwise the danger is that it will wipe the information from the device.
If your media folder has been split out from the main iTunes folder you may need to do some preparatory work to make it easier to move. See make a split library portable.
Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library, or a backup of it, then see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device for advice on how to set up your devices with a new library with the maximum preservation of data. If you don't have any Apple devices then see HT2519 - Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store.

  • How to move iphone info from old computer/OS to new computer/OS?

I am at a loss as to how I should move my iPhone 4 apps, info, etc. from my old desktop onto my new laptop (my desktop is a 2007 mac mini). I need to move my mac account info to iCloud and want to streamline my life onto one computer which is the latest MacBook Pro with Lion. Are there any suggestions?

iTunes: How to move [or copy] your music to a new computer [or another drive] - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527
Quick answer if you let iTunes manage your music:  Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive.  Start iTunes with the option key held down and guide it to the new location of the library.

    Hello DelaineF,
Congratulations on your new iPhone 5!  It sounds like you would like to transfer your ringtones from your iPhone 4 to your iPhone 5.
If the ringtones were purchased from the iTunes Store, you can transfer them to iTunes using the steps in this article:
