HT1237 Trying to update my Macbook Pro 6.2 but the firmware doesn't seem to work.
Trying to update the EFI version 6.2 for Macbook Pro but it won't install. Complaining that it isn't for this computer. Checked the systems info and everyting.
I don't see a EFI 6.2 mentioned at the page you reference - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1237.
Which model MacBook Pro do you have? If it's a 6,2 MBP, then you'd need the mid-2010 update (if you really need it) and that would be EFI 2.6.
Go back to the page and see what I'm writing about. It may be that your machine is simply not in need of the EFI update.

My track pad has not been working properly for awhile and my disc drive it damaged. I went to update my macbook pro to maveric and it is now frozen and not allowing me to click anything. Is there anything that can be done to fix this without buying a new one? Its from early 2009
ShelbyMackenzieLynne,
when you say that your disc drive is damaged, do you mean your MacBook Pro’s hard disk drive, or do you mean its SuperDrive (the CD/DVD drive)?
When you’d updated your MacBook Pro to Mavericks, did the installation succeed, and subsequently freeze up? Or did it freeze up during the Mavericks installation?
Which version of OS X was installed on your MacBook Pro before you’d installed Mavericks?
Are you currently able to boot into the Mavericks recovery partition? To see if you can do so, hold down a Command key and the R key while starting up your MacBook Pro. -
I have both a MacBook Pro and macair but the pro won't let me in I think it something to do with hard disc or permissions as it says system profiler in utilities , if anyone could help I'd be very grateful
Restart the MBP and immediately hold the option key down. Release the key when you see the Apple logo. The computer will boot and show you a screen with two hard drive icons.
Select Recovery and hit Return.
On the new screen, select Disk Utility and hit Return.
In DU do this:
In the list at the left, select the name of your hard drive. (Be sure to select the name that’s indented to the right in the list, not an item at the far left.)
Click First Aid.
If Disk Utility tells you the disk is about to fail, back it up and replace it. You can’t repair it.
Click Repair Disk.
When that is done, click Repair Permissions. Be patient!
When that is done, quit DU and restart in the usual way. -

Hello
My macbook pro is version MAC OS X V.10.5.8 and I'm trying to udate my itunes from10.6.3 to the most current version. However, when I try to do this I cant seem to be able to find the newest version of itunes- I'm receiving the message that I'm up to date with the latest version.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. You are for Leopard. To upgrade iTunes you first need to upgrade OS X. Start with Snow Leopard. You can upgrade further should you want to. But Snow Leopard will allow you to install the latest version of iTunes 11.1.5.
Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You can purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mavericks if your computer meets the requirements.
Snow Leopard General Requirements
1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
2. 1GB of memory
3. 5GB of available disk space
4. DVD drive for installation
5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
fees may apply.
6. Some features require Apple’s iCloud services; fees and
terms apply.
Upgrading from Snow Leopard to Lion or Mavericks
To upgrade to Mavericks you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8, Lion, or Mountain Lion installed. Purchase and download Mavericks (Free) from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. The file is quite large, over 5 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
OS X Mavericks- System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mavericks
1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) — Model Identifier 7,1 or later
2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) —
Model Identifier 5,1 or later
3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) — Model Identifier 2,1 or later
5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
7. Xserve (Early 2009) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.
Are my applications compatible?
See App Compatibility Table — RoaringApps.
Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mavericks, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion at the Online Apple Store. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax. It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
Lion System Requirements
1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
or Xeon processor
2. 2GB of memory
3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
4. 7GB of available space
5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply. -
I made sure my name and password is all correct but when I put it in, it shakes indicating that something is wrong.
If you are trying to restore a 10.7 MacBook Pro to its original out of the box state, erase/install 10.6 using the original discs that came with the computer.
If you are trying to clean the 10.7 MacBook Pro or MacBook Air without reverting to a previous OS, then erase/install 10.7 using Lion Recovery. -
so basically i was wanting to update my smc firmware and the EFI Boot ROM version but for the EFI Boot Rom when i click on it says page no found and for the smc firmware, when i do download it says that the my software does not support it, even though it is completely compatible, i checked the system requirements given by the page.
iam trying to do this because i have issues with the chargin, it keeps giving me a "not charging" messege.
Help please...SadisticIron wrote:

Why am I not able to download OS X Mountain Lion Software on my Macbook pro?
If you can catch it once the download is finished, but BEFORE it starts to install (there will be an "OS X Installer" window opening up), then you could make a copy of that installer so you don't have to wait that long again if you need to reinstall for some reason. To do that, quit the Installer and go find it in your Applications folder. Make a copy of it and park it someplace safe (another folder, external disk); then double click the Installer and go ahead - the Installer will self destruct once it's finished.

I tried to restore my iMac with my MacBook pro CDs but it's seem it got restored but it say this cd is not supported on this iMac, What could I do to take out the disk?
Also, if you have Lion on the computer. You have a recovery partition on the drive. On startup hold down 'Control' to bring up your startup menu. Select "Recovery HD". That's how you get to it. Lion's recovery partition acts as the installation discs that came with all previous versions of OS X.

I have made my entire Macbook Pro desktop larger and cannot reduce it back down to the original size. I cannot view both my dock and toolbar at the same time because of this. Suggestions?
Go to the Apple menu >System Preferences > Universal Access and turn off Zoom.

I go into the App store and it says it is downloading but it is not. I have tried for 3 days already and I do not know what to do. My brother got me my computer 4 years ago. When I go under About this Mac it says this: Mac OS X Version 10.7.5 Processor 2.4 GHz Intel Core i5 Memory 4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3. If anyone can help me I would glady appreciate it.
Evie,
Mavericks is a 5.3 GB download, so it will take a while for a download of that size to complete. -
I am trying to update my MacBook Pro...
...and when I click update, it just says "waiting..." next to the update tab. It won't let me shut down the computer until the update finishes. Problem is: it never even starts, just says waiting until it times out. Even when that times out, and I try to shut down, it still says I can't until the update is finished.
Hold the power button down and force the hardware to shutdown
The servers are slammed, a update won't install unless it's completely downloaded which it's not.
So your safe to force the hardware shutdown and try again later, it won't harm your machine any. -
Hi there
after installing Mavericks on my macbookpro 2009 (Japanese keyboards) the layout doesn't work anymore. I mean, if I press the "@" button the "è" symbol comes out. I did already change the layout in the Preferences but it didn't work.
Could anyone help me please?Apple has changed the way Kotoeri keyboard layouts work. You should be able to get normal behavior if you activate the US layout and switch to that just before using Kotoeri. Here is also an Apple note on the topic with another suggestion:
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS5284
Be sure to tell Apple you want this changed back to the way if was in 10.8 and earlier via
http://www.apple.com/feedback
If you know Japanese well, you might ask on the Japanese discussions whether someone has found a better fix for this:
