HT1238 4generation 16gb iPod Nano

Im trying to update my 4th gen, 16gb iPod nano and it wont update and keeps sayifg error 143

That 4000 total is really an approximation based on typical 3 minute pop tracks at 128KB.
Your songs have been imported at a very high quality (Possibly AIFF) and therefore size reduces capacity.
AIFF really isn't necessary on the iPod - You won't benefit with the majority of mid priced headphones.
So attach your iPod to iTunes and click on devices.
In the summary window Options panel tick Convert higher bit rate songs and in the pull down set to one of the three available compression rates - they are 128kb , 192kb and 256kb.
Try each with a selection of your most listened to tracks and see which is personally acceptable.
All will increase capacity - the more compressed the more tacks you can upload.

how do you fit 4000 song on an 16gb ipod nano?

The songs need to be short enough and have a low enough bitrate to be able to fit into that space.

  • Just bought a 16gb Ipod Nano new and not working.

Plugged it into the 3 computers in the house and we are getting the same message, USB Device not recognised.
It is not charging and we are not getting any response from it at all. please help

If you have another Lightning cable available try it and also inspect the Lightning port on the Nano and clean it if necessary. If that doesn't work return it for another one.

  • Ipod Nano - Movies and Wheel Questions

    1. I just purchased the 16GB Ipod Nano and within two weeks the wheel stopped working. I reset the software via iTunes and also by holding down the menu and select button. Nothing worked. Now I'm waiting for a replacement from the store as they were out of stock.
Is this a common item and if so any idea on how to fix it?
    2. I'd like to watch movies from my PC to my TV. However, I don't have a newer TV with an RGB connection and don't want to pay the $100 or so for the converter box. What I'm going to do is purchase either the Component AV Cable or the Composite AV Cable. In my current TV, I only have the Video and L/R audio so unless I can convert Component to Composite, my only real choice is the Composite for my current TV.
I'm looking at a new TV which does have both Component and Composite jacks. I was wondering when watching a movie from the Ipod Nano does it make that much of a difference between the Component and Composite cables? Since my new TV will also have and RGB connection, I'll be able to connect my computer directly.
However, in the interim if I want to watch movies the only choice I have is the Composite cables. I just don't want to spend $50 now and $50 in the next six months. Granted the Composite also gives more flexibility to use on other older TVS.
Based on the output from the Nano, is the Component cable that much better?
    Thanks

  • 4th Gen Ipod Nano compatibility issues`

I purchased a 4th Gen 16gb ipod nano. When I connected it to my car's Sony car stereo I got the "can't charge" error message that has been discussed previously on these pages. It will also not work on my wife's Chrysler Town & Country. Several solutions to the charging problem have been given, including getting "Passport" from Scosche (sp). However, when I called their help desk they stated their product will solve the charging problems, but if my nano was not recognized by my stereo and then work, that their product would not solve this problem. Neither the Sony or the Chrysler stereo would recognize the nano after giving me the charging error. Is their any software that can be downloaded into the nano that would make it work with these car stereo systems?
Thanks for any advice or help.

If everybody with this problem were to return the 4th generation nano, the problem would be solved by Apple in short order. Instead reponses along the line of "you shouldn't expect old equipment to work with a new generation Apple product" are offered thereby enabling Apple in ignoring its customers.

  • Ipod nano space

i have just bought a new 16gb ipod nano, i have read it is supposed to hold 3000-4000 songs. it only has 500 and is full, i have no videos etc. on it. any ideas why?

    Daniel,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
You could convert your tracks to a lower bitrate, but you may experience quality loss. What bitrate are your files in now and what format?
You could always choose to create playlist containing as much music as fits on your nano and sync only that playlist.
If an 6, 8 or 20 GB nano is on it's way, no one here knows...

  • Ipod Nano - Not enough room

Have gone through every forum I can find and have found no solutions. I had my 16gb iPod Nano stolen. Bought a new one (refurbished). Trying to sync with itunes with the exact same playlist and it says there is not enough room. Have restored 4 times to no avail.
    Converting songs to 128kbps
Have unchecked all videos and podcasts
    Only have one playlist selected.
Status bar at the bottom says I have plenty of room but as soon as I hit "sync" the status bar jumps to completely full and get error message that it cannot sync because there isn't enough room. I have deleted about 100 songs and still get same problem. As I said I had the exact same iPod before and had used the exact same playlist on older 16gb model with no problem whatsoever. Fit all songs with room to spare.
Any ideas? Am thinking I got a lemon.

This is the image I get before hitting sync. Then it immediately jumps to completely full.

  • Ipod Nano actual HD capacity

    Hi everyone,
I just got a 16GB iPod Nano yesterday. When I first hooked it up it showed the capacity was somewhere very close to, or exactly 16GB...I can't remember the exact amount. Last night due to my messing some things up, I did a restore using iTunes. After this it shows that the hard drive capacity is 15.04 GB. Can someone explain why it would change? I wouldn't have been surprised if it started out showing this capacity when I first got it, but I don't like that it changed.
    Thanks,

    Not really.
It was very close to ~15GB because this is all the memory there is, even with nothing on it such as the OS.
16GB = 17,179,869,184 bytes, not 16,000,000,000 bytes. Go backwards and 16 billion bytes cannot be 16GB.

"One more thing about iPod disk size
In iPod's About menu, the hard disk size is reported as slightly less than the technical specifications for the iPod. The same is true if you connect iPod to your computer in disk mode to look at the info or properties window for the disk.
Why the difference? Most hard disk manufacturers measure disk size this way: 1 MB = 1 million bytes (1000 * 1000). A 4 GB disk, therefore, is one that holds 4 billion bytes. Computers, including Windows computers, Macintosh computers and iPod, measure disk size this way: 1 MB = 1 048 576 bytes (1024 * 1024). The difference in these two calculations is what causes the drive to appear as 3.7 GB on a computer, but actually be a 4 billion byte disk."

  • Why is it that i am unable to buy an ipod nano 16gb in germany? In the stores it is advertised however not available, the store only has the 8gb and I can't ship it here? Is it a case of not yet launched, patent infringement or apple just being annoying?

I am trying, thus far with no success, to buy an ipod nano 16gb here in Germany. However whilst the stores advertise it they don't have it in stock and can't tell when it will be. The german apple store only has the 8gb version. Should i try to order from a reseller then they will only post within the uk.  iSo my question is - whats going on? Why are there no 16gb ipods to be (apparantly) had in Germany? Not launched yet? Patent infringement? Apple being very annoying?

Call Apple or an Apple Store in your city and ask them.  Or do a Google search.

  • I want to buy a Ipod Nano 16gb and it says it holds up to 4,000 songs, and 16 hours of video but on my Itunes I have 2,593 songs and it says I have 19.88 gb. How is this possible?

How is this possible? If I buy the Nano, will I not be able to have all my songs on the ipod? The music is my first and only prioarity. I want to be able to have up to at least 3,000 songs, even if that means not having video or pictures. Can someone please help me?

    Daniella,
The estimated song capacities, such as 4000 songs in 16 GB, are based on 4 minute songs of 4 MB each, which is what you get at 128 encoding.
Most of us nowadays use well above 128.  (For example, the iTunes Store and Amazon MP3 both sell songs only in 256.)
However, you can still make more songs fit!  When you sync your iPod, use the option to "convert higher bit rate songs," as pictured.  Choose 128.  This fits more on the iPod, but does not change the songs in your library.

  • IPod Nano 16Gb sync error

For a while now I have been getting the following when I try and sync my iPod Nano 16Gb on my Mac.
The iPod syncs when it first is recignized by iTunes, but it will not synce again. I select different playlists, or make any changes. I tries resetting the iPod and now I have almost no music on it. It is three months old and useless now.
iPod cannot be synced. An unknown error occurred (-25172).
    Any help would be appreiciated.

It does happen on both USB ports. I have used the original cable and one out of another iPod Nano box.
Both my Macbook Pro (OSX 10.6.8) and iTunes (10.6.1) have the latest updates.
I have tried both of my iPods, (16GB Nano and Classic 160GB), they will sync when first plugged in, but when I make music and playlist changes, then click the sync button they fail.
The 160GB will synce the changes to the playlists after I restart my system and iTunes, but the Nano had to be reinstalled completely and I cannot change the selected playlists, so it is almost useless now.
I will try and get to the Apple store next week. I read a couple of comments about this being a possible corrupt file. I have 160GB of music in iTunes, so not sure how to go about figuring this out.

  • IPod Nano (5th gen, 16GB) syncing some albums, but not others...?

Hello! I am new to the world of iPods, so please bear with me.
I recently purchased an iPod Nano (5th gen, 16GB) and figured out how to sync it with iTunes. Unfortunately, it seems to only sync up with select albums in my library. I know that in order for an album to sync there needs to be check marks next to each song, which I did, but after I sync it I browse my iPod and find that only (roughly) half of the albums I indicated actually show up on my iPod. For example, I was able to sync albums by The Afghan Whigs, Bryan Ferry, and Berlin just fine, but for some reason I was not able to sync certain albums by Autechre, Low, or King Black Acid.
What gives?? I will note that I am using the Windows 7 release candidate - hopefully this has nothing to do with it.
