HT1238 ipod shuffle 2nd generation does not appear in Reset Utility window.
Hi there! I'm seeking some advice for repairing an old ipod shuffle.
My mom's 2nd generation iPod shuffle suddenly will not appear on her computer. She is using windows vista (sad face). I ran all the reccommeded troubleshooting suggestions, but still can't repair the disk.
When connected to the original computer (windows vista), the charging light comes on but the disk does not appear anywhere on the computer. I ran the diagnostics and it apparently has the most updated software, but there is another unspecified error.
When I tried to run the repair suggestions on my own computer, i can't get the disk to show anywhere....the charging light will not even come on.
Any other suggestions I might have overlooked?
but there is another unspecified error.
What is that error?
Are you sure she has a Shuffle? You mentioned a Sad Face.. that would indicate that the iPod has a display, which a Shuffle does not.

I have a ipod shuffle (2nd generation) that won't light up when plugged in to the power adapter. I have only used it a few times since I purchased it years ago. Also, when I plug it into my computer with itunes running, it isn't recognized at all, as in nothing happens when I plug the usb cable with ipod attached and on to it. Any help would be much appreciated.
but there is another unspecified error.
What is that error?

Ipod Shuffle (2nd Gen) Does Not Recognize Songs
My Ipod Shuffle (2nd Gen) does not recognize the songs that are loaded on it. When I turn it on after a full charge the green light stays on for about 5 seconds then turns off. When I press play, the colors flash orange and green indicating there are no songs loaded. I've tried all the recommendations and also seen that people with similar problems have not been able to resolve the problem as well. I've seen some cases where the use of the Ipod Rest Utility is recommended however I have Vista on my PC and there is no version available for that o/s that I could find. Does anyone have any other suggestions. Thanks.
Ipod Shuffle (2nd Gen) Windows VistaI changed the iPod to Disk mode and it just blinks orange while it is connected to the PC. It says that it is synched on the PC screen but I thought the blinking orange light means that it isn't. I took it back out of disk mode. The original problem still exists...when I turn it on, the green light stays lit for 5 seconds then there's no light at all....when I press play the lights alternate orange and green indicating no music is loaded which is wrong since it shows all my songs that are loaded when it is connected to my PC. What a mess.

My iPod touch 2nd generation does not sync my contacts. I only have iCloud contacts in my address book. How can i sync that?
I do not fully understand you question. To use iCloud on an iOS device requires iOS 5 and the 2G only goes to iOS 4.1.2 and thysyu can't access iCloud, including contacts.
Maybe you could sync the iCloud contacts with anopther program and sync that program with the 2G iPod.
The following smple states the following for Contacts:
iCloud: What if my device or computer doesn't meet iCloud system requirements?
Contacts
If you want to check your iCloud Contacts, you can do so by visiting icloud.com from a Mac or PC (as long as it meets the browser system requirements for icloud.com). -

Ipod shuffle 2nd gen does not charge on new 5W USB power adapter
Hi,
my perfectly functional ipod shuffle 2nd gen with original dock will not charge with the new Continental Europe 5W USB power adapter, even though the specs of the power adapter include the 2nd generation shuffle. Shuffle will blink orange three times, longer than normal blinking, and then do nothing. probably nothing I can do about it, but worth a note. The US model of the new 5W adapter does not include the 2nd gen shuffle, so maybe it is an error on the apple specs page.
Maybe the 2nd gen needs more than 5W to charge?indeed, it needs the bigger 12 Watt Adapter and the apple site is wrong.

I have recently updated my laptop from Windows Vista to Windows 7. I have just added three new playlists to my Ipod Shuffle, 3rd generation. On the panel in ITunes in view on the computer, all looks fine and music plays. However, after syncing a million times, when clicking to "hear" the playlists, the voice will call out all the old playlists just fine - except for the 3 new ones I've added; it calls them out as "playlist 3, playlist 8, or "purchased". All software for the ITunes has been updated as of the moment. Why would switching from Vista to Windows 7 cause this frustrating issue? All help appreciated.
From page 23 of your iPod's User Guide: http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/iPod_shuffle_3rdGen_UG.pdf
If VoiceOver is disabled in iTunes, you hear an abbreviated menu of playlists in numbered order, but not by name (for example, “Playlist 1, Playlist 2,” and so on).
So you'll want to make sure VoiceOver is enabled to correct this.

Ipod shuffle (2nd Generation) is not being recognized by my MacBook Pro or itunes:
I was recently given my friends old ipod shuffle, but it is not being recognized by my computer at all, is there something that I can do?
What have you tried so far in terms of troubleshooting? Did he give you the cable that was originally included witht the Shuffle? I ask because if you are using a 3G/4G cable it will not work with the 2G Shuffle.
Have you worked through all the sugguestions here as necessary?

My shuffle 2nd generation does not recognize some podcast in m4a format.
My shuffle does not recognize podcast form The Economist in m4a format. Nevertheless, it plays those fom T.E. in mp3 format, as well as many others podcast in m4a format w/o any problem.
If there is something not quite right about the iPod shuffle, click on the Restore button. This will restore the iPod to its original settings. If that does not work or is inaccessible, try the iPod Reset Utility.

Both procedures will erase the iPod. -
My ipod shuffle (1st generation) does not power on
my ipod shuffle does not power on. Hence, it does not connect to Itunes (tried latest version) also. I cannot reset it also.
A 1st gen shuffle would not be under warranty (one year from purchase) or AppleCare if purchased (total of two years).
There's not much you can do... A few years ago, I went on eBay and bought a bunch of broken 1st gen shuffles. That's how I know the most common failure is the USB connector. But I managed to swap parts to get a few working ones (I still use one of them today - favorite and best sounding shuffle model). I still have plenty of spare parts, except for that USB connector. If I had 10 of those parts (that worked), I could probably assemble 10 working shuffles.
If you are good at such things, this web site has the guides.

It's small and delicate on the inside, but fairly simple in design. It's small, but not "microscopic" like the current shuffle. -
My ipod shuffle 2nd generation is not charging;
light is green however ipod does not work anymore...any suggestions? I guess I really used up the battery as all of a sudden it swithched off but now I can not get it to work anymore
That most likely problem is that the iPod's battery is worn out and not able to hold a charge anymore. So, it appears to charge while connect to USB for power, but a few seconds after it is disconnected, it goes dead.

The iPod still start and also plays music, but I can't see anything on the display.
I can see the backlight, but not more...
I have reinstalled, recovered and restarted the iPod.
The firmware and iTunes is at the newest version.
Anyone got experience with this? Is there a way to fix it?
Thanks for your helpSounds like you have tried all of the regular troubleshooting. So it points to an issue with your nano's LCD display. You'll have want to have it repaired/replaced either by Apple or a third party repair company.

IPod shuffle 4th generation will not connect to iTunes.
iPod shuffle 4th generation will not connect to iTunes. Windows Vista and iTunes, all updates current. Cables secure & connected. Device driver will not load. iPad will connect when tried with several other computers. When I try to connect it will hang iTunes until I re-boot. iPad does NOT appear in Windows Explorer either.
Oh, so the iPad DOES work fine connected to the same computer and the same port. I thought you said it did not in the first post, but maybe you got that working (or I misunderstood before).
NOTE: When things are working properly, the shuffle will not appear in Windows Explorer (except when actively syncing), unless you have Enable disk use turned on for the shuffle. So not seeing it in Windows Explorer may not be a problem.
Is this shuffle a new purchase... so it did not previously work for you on this computer? If so, make sure that the shuffle end of the USB cable is fully inserted into the headphones jack. The fit can be tighter than expected, and it may seem connected, but is not. For a surprising number of people, this was the problem.
In iTunes, is the sidebar (along left side of window) visible. If it is hidden, from the iTunes menu bar, under View, select Show Sidebar. When there are no devices connected, the heading DEVICES should not appear in the sidebar. When you connect your iPad, DEVICES should appear, with the iPad listed below. If you connect the shuffle, it is be added to the list under DEVICES. To confirm, you do not see the shuffle listed there under DEVICES, when it is connected?
When you connect the shuffle, does its light on the shuffle do anything?
