HT1267 How do I request to have my iphone 4 unlocked

Trying to see how to get my wife's iPhone4 unlocked. We purchased the unit from the Globe store in the Philippines and had always used pre-paid. We are now in Bahrain and are unable to use it w/ the current carrier?

As SJF said, only the carrier to whom the iPhone is locked can unlock it, and according to the information published by Apple, Globe does not offer unlocking. You can contact Globe and ask, but it does not look to be likely that you can get the iPhone unlocked. You may need to sell your iPhone to someone in the Philippines and buy a new iPhone in Bahrain.

Go to http://iphoneoperatorcheck.com/ and enter your IMEI number (SN works fine) and it will tell you the lock status.
Note the following with regard to the above;
1) A locked phone will show as unlocked until activated after which the status will change to locked if the phone is locked to a carrier.
2) Say for instance that the phone was originally locked to AT&T and you requested an unlock though AT&T. If your phone is unlocked by Apple following a request through AT&T, the status will continue to show as Locked to AT&T until you connect the phone to iTunes and do an update after which the status will show as unlocked. The status changes are almost real time.

I would just explain that this just started happening, that nothing has changed on the phone, that it is an original iPhone and I wondered if they are implementing a change in coverage with their Edge network in my area.
If you restore your phone, you will be given an option to back up your phone at the beginning of the process (see step 6 here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414). You will be given the option to restore to that backup at the end of the restore process. Your messages are stored in the backup so restoring to the backup will return the messages to your phone. If you got the Unlocked message it means it was successfully unlocked by AT&T. Apple will not relock or block it. They have no objections to it being used on T-Mobile. It is still under warrantee. Take to an Apple store. They can test it with a SIM from AT&T. If that doesn't work have them replace the phone. Have them verify that the new phone is unlocked. If it does work with the AT&T card then it is a T_Mobile problem.

The nice thing about owning this overpriced POS is that Apple not only doesn't support it, but also doesn't want to hear about anything negative regarding it. If Vodafone does not provide a nano-SIM card, there are no suggestions. Not only is the nano-SIM card smaller, it is also thinner, so cutting a micro-SIM card down to size wouldn't be enough to fit.
