  • Mail disappears/re-appears with exchange imap?

first off the specs and versions:
    mbp running os 10.6.7
    mail version 4.5 (1084)
i have been using mail.app for my email for over a year now, and have had this issue all along.  i have my fetch timer set to one minute, and what happens is that i will receive an email, and then a minute later it disappears for a moment, then immediately re-appears.  this happens with all of my email messages regardless of where or who sent them.
i connect to an exchange 2003 server, so my account is setup as an exchange imap.  i have tried deleting and rebuilding the account to no avail.  i have also tried to rebuild my inbox, and that didn't work either.
this issue does not happen with entourage 2008 (version 12.2.9 (110113)), but i don't want to use that for my mail....  just personal preference...
any ideas what else to check or things to do?  i've lived with this for over a year, but i'd like to get it resolved....
    thanks in advance!!

Sounds like you could try deleting the current keychain entry, then quit Mail.app. Open Mail.app again, when it asks for the password go ahead and type it in then just click Always Trust, etc. to see if it can hold onto that certificate this second time around. You also might have more than one entry in the Keychain list, so hunt around there a little to make sure you get everything deleted related to your Zimbra/Exchange IMAP accont.

  • Exchange IMAP updates only on Mail quit

    My configuration is as follows:
Account on Exchange 2003 server ("Exchange IMAP" kind, nothing else is supported with this server)
Mail 6.5 on Mountain Lion 10.8.4
    Other mail clients
    Behaviour is as follows:
On all mail clients except Mail, when I move a message from Inbox to a (server-stored) IMAP folder the other clients see this and update.
On Mail, when I move a message from Inbox to the other folder, the server does not get updated.
Weirder still, when AppleScript asks Mail for a list of the messages in the Inbox, the moved message is still there.
On all mail clients including Mail, when I mark a message as read or unread in any folder, the other clients see this and update
When I tell Mail to 'Synchronize', it still does not update the server
When I quit Mail, it does update the server.
    Any thoughts!?

Well over a year later, and I still have this problem. I've used Keyboard Maestro to quit, wait a few seconds and start Mail.app with a single keystroke. It's a hack, I blame our old Exchange 2003 server, and am just waiting for it to be upgraded to a newer version.

  • Mail + Exchange IMAP Server won't send mail

    Any help would be appreciated!-
My university just switched over to Exchange 2007 for our mail servers, and since the change occurred, I can receive my mail just fine with the IMAP settings they provided. The problem occurs when I attempt to send mail; the server rejects my password (which I know is correct) and will not send any mail. I've also put below the link that the university has provided for students to set up their mail accounts within. I called IT, and they said that Mail wouldn't work until Apple updated their program, which didn't seem right to me because I'm sure that I would see more people complaining than just me. I am on campus, which would also eliminate the need for using the available VPN client.
Can any of you see maybe what settings they may have missed mentioning to us loyal mac fans on campus?

Thank You for any help you may provide!

    Jimmy,
Many email providers do not allow emails to be sent on their outgoing servers when the user is outside of their network as an anti-spam protection. This may explain why you were able to send mail from your school account when you were on your school's Wi-Fi connection, but not on your home connection or EDGE. You may want to check with your school's email provider to verify this is the case.
In the meantime, this article has some good troubleshooting steps and alternatives that you can use so that you will be able to send mail when you are away from your school's Wi-Fi network:

    Hope this helps,

  • Mail account types exchange imap vs exchange 2007 vs Gmail imap

I have an 'Exchange imap' account type that went on the fritz when I had to change my password. I think I did enough to it to mess it up forever so I wanted to just rebuild the account from scratch. However, when I went in to create the same account again there is no option for 'exchange imap'; just 'pop', 'exchange 2007', and 'imap'. I have two other account that are 'gmail imap' and there is no option for that either.
Where do these account type designations come from that there are no options for and will I be loosing any functionality by picking one or the other of the regular account types?

also, under the old account that i screwed up the settings for there is a space for 'outlook web access' that doesn't appear if i recreate the account using either 'exchange 2007' or 'imap'

  • Exchange IMAP

Does anyone here experience can't read attachment from Mail using Exchange IMAP? i have problem with this since my company configured our Exchange server to use IMAP protocol, i can't read any Microsoft Document (.xls, .doc, .ppt) on this account,
i only see mime attachment something at the very bottom,
but im still able to read PDF type (.pdf)

Through Entourage, I sent a meeting request from one of my Exchange accounts to a second one (two different servers and domains). The second account (which is synced on my iPhone) checks for mail and keeps trying to download the request, but will not do so (even though it says it has completed the download).
Now, I then sent a meeting request from my second account to itself (using myself as the invitee) and it came through on the iPhone via e-mail just fine. However, nothing shows up on the calendar, and I would not expect it to do so since the way you get Exchange to work on an iPhone at this point is through IMAP4. IMAP4 is an e-mail only protocol, as I understand it. It will not sync calendars or contacts. That is done through iTunes on the iPhone. So, you would need to acccept the meeting through Entourage and then sync with your iPhone.

  • IMAP vs Exchange IMAP Differences

I've searched high and low and can't seem to find any documentation on the differences between a Mail IMAP vs Exchange IMAP account. If no one has this info, I could possibly set up both account types and then compare their preference settings. Thanks for any info.

Not to my knowledge all IMAP email is of a Push type where the email program is basically in constant contact with the IMAP server to get mail as it arrives on the servers inbox for your account. Now maybe Mac Mail handles that differently but as I don't use Mac Mail I'm not sure. I use Thunderbird and if I have my Mac running with Tbird open and my PC right next to it on my desk with Tbird open and a new message comes into one of my IMAP accounts it show up on both system at the same time.
Have no idea how MS Exchange works but I would think it is very similar. Exchange is Exchange. It is Not Exchange/IMAP. As far as I know.

  • Infuriating IMAP problem in Mail - Help!

I have just starting hooking up Mail with our company's IMAP server. I need to do this since I use a desktop and a laptop, both of which need to have exactly the same e-mail on them, including flagged items, sent etc. It seems to work OK except for one thing - Whenever I send a mail, next time I check mail and it syncs with the server, the mail I just sent shows up in bold (unread) in the sent messages folder. I can see why it is doing this - It's because I store my sent messages on the server, along with my incoming mail, so when the sent message is synchronized it thinks it is "new" or unread. I need to sent messages stored on the server as if I don't then it negates the whole point of me using IMAP. Does anyone know a workaround or a way to stop this? If not it's back to POP3 for me and the joy of copying my entire mail folder to my laptop when I go away and back again when I return.......
    Thanks

Thanks for the help. Here's what that folder contains:
    Deleted.imapmbox
    Drafts.imapmbox
    INBOX.imapmbox
    Sent Messages.imapmbox
I've messed with every possible setting on the IMAP account in Mail and also in the options section of our IMAP web interface but to no avail. I've also experimented with the "Use this folder for..." setting as-well, but it's just not doing anything.
The whole point of this was to ensure that when I go away (which I often do) I can just sync the MacBook Pro up with the IMAP server and avoid having to run my sync scripts I made to copy my mail folder etc. over from the desktop. Ironically, it only takes a double click to do that and I spent all of Sunday morning trying to get this stuff sorted then ended up going back to POP3....So much for technology.
There are quite a lot of Apple Mail/IMAP issues similar to this (although not all identical) around the web on forums (here too) and I have seen at least 1 person who had the same issue. I think Entourage handles it better but I'm not willing to use that due to the fact that it doesn't use Apple's address book.
The detail from the console output which someone else posted that had a similar problem seems to indicate some kind of incompatibility with the flags and status info that Mail and the IMAP server exchange. It also appears that different server software companies have different interpretations of the IMAP standard, which causes much finger pointing and gets nothing done. I should say that the issue is identical on the MBP as well as the G5 Desktop.
It looks like I will have to wait until 10.4.7 is released to see if it is fixed. Apple are supposed to be focussing heavily on some unresolved Mail problems in that release so maybe it will fix it, but I'm not holding my breath.

  • Huge Macmail on ML issues with Exchange Imap

I can't seem to get Macmail on a new Macbook Pro with ML to work with our Exchange Imap server.  The weird thing is that we have another new Macbook (with ML) that I created using an older Mac's Time Machine and had no issues with Macmail. The mail settings are identical!

  • I cannot set-up my EXCHANGE account with Apple Mail 4.0

I'm a school teacher for a charter school. I check my emails at home from
    http://mail.starsmiddleschool.org/exchange/
When I arrive at that page, I type in my username and password.
I have a Macbook 2,1 laptop with Snow Leopard updated and installed. I really want to have my Exchange account synced with my laptop so that I don't have to constantly be visiting the website.
I have looked online for days and days for suggestions, but nothing's worked. My administration isn't too helpful on this matter.
If someone could please tell me what I need to do. I know that I go to my Mail: Preferences--> Accounts--> click on "plus" sign --> type in the password and username...
    After that I get lost.
    Questions:
    1. Exactly what should my outgoing and incoming servers look like??
    2. Am I a "Exchange 2007" or "Exchange IMAP" account??
I am sooooooooo appreciative of any responses...Thank you all!

"Actually, it's always been marketed as interaction with Exchange 2007 only."
No, that's not correct. Not even a little bit. It was MARKETED as providing Exchange support. The fine print said it was only with 2007. One of the first truly underhanded things I've seen Apple do.

  • IMAP fine in Mail; "Connection to the Server Failed" on iPhone?

So on my Mac, I have both GMail (works great on iPhone) and an IMAP account for my work's Exchange server set up.
Both accounts work just fine on my Mac; I don't even need to connect to the VPN on my Mac to read Exchange email via IMAP through Mail.
The problem is that the iPhone gives me the "connection to the server failed" whenever I try to connect on either EDGE or wi-fi to read the IMAP Exchange email. The settings in both Mail and the iPhone are identical.
If I turn on the VPN on the iPhone, I get the same message...but at this point, I'm thinking the VPN on the iPhone is worthless.
Can anyone think of a reason why the iPhone can't connect to IMAP even though the laptop can? I'm wracking my brain here trying to figure this out. The purchase of 2 iPhones for other staff to use depends on me getting this up & running! I can tell you that the others will NOT accept "setting up a Yahoo!/GMail account for forwarding. They want their email coming in & responses going out with the company's headers.
Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

This morning, I was able to fully "unlock" and "open" the correct ports (I believe), and now I'm able to receive email from the IMAP Exchange server. According to the IT guy who's helping me, we opened ports 143 and 25 on the ISA server (firewall), and I'm able to receive. Does this sound right to you?
The only problem now is sending. I cannot send any mail through this work account on the iPhone. Mail just "hangs." I can still send/receive just fine on my iBook Mail account for Exchange (IMAP), but no dice on sending.
The Incoming Mail Server and SMTP/outgoing Server addresses are identical. Works fine on the Mac, but not the iPhone. I do believe the 143 port is now fully open...I think.
Am I still missing something? Thanks for your help!

  • How to choose between Exchange 2007 and Exchange IMAP if you have choice?

I'm running a silver intel macpro at a company that is predominantly PC.
I just installed snow leopard and have an Exchange account that I had already moved to Exchange IMAP so I could access it with Leopard (although I was never able to get it to work under Leopard).
Ideally I'd like to use Mail/iCal as much as possible for interacting with Exchange, and only revert to XP under Fusion occasaionally.
Given that goal, would appreciate any insights into whether I'd be better off connecting via Exchange 2007 or Exchange IMAP.
    Thanks.

Thanks for info - I was unable to get mail to autoconfigure to my exchange account, but after I configured iCal, it correctly configured mail (and address book) to access my exchange server.
I'm thrilled so far with what I've seen - it's so refreshing to be able to use my Mac apps for work.
Just to clarify, if I set up my account using IMAP, would I notice any differences in functionality, or is just a matter of ease of setup?

  • Linking Exchange 2007 to Mac Mail

    Hi,
I have a new MacBook Pro and have been having issues linking it to my works server which is running exchange 2007. When entering all server details into mail 4.5 it keeps coming up with the same message "The Exchange server 2007 mail......... is not responding". I am using 'exchange 2007' in the drop down tab, have tried others (IMAP, exchange IMAP, POP) but all come up with the same message. My Iphone works fine with the server so there must be something to do with the settings on my end? Any help/advise would be great.
    Thanks,

    Dear all
after a week of fighting with this we finally made.
basically we looked at the autodiscover and many other things
one of my exchange engineers identified the source of the problem and solved it by regenarating the EWS on the exchange server.
and then the autodiscover automatically configures the server address to
    https://mail.domain.com/EWS/Exchange.asmx
    and it rocked
hope this helps you a bit
    Take care

  • Exchange 2003 Support in Mail

I cannot understand why iOS4 on iPhone fully supports Exchange 2003 and the Mail.app doesnt !
Why on earth can they not make both work !
Surely this is an oversight ?
Theres no way my company will be upgrading from Exchange 2003 to 2007 soon. And they will not enable IMAP either.
I prefer not to buy Entourage.
    Anyone ? Thks

I would just like to add to this - our NHS MS Exchange is 2003 - no likelihood of upgrade in the near future. This is dreadful - I did buy the Mac because it was said Exchange connection was simple - not realising 2007 was not backwards compatible. My Office Home 2008 for Mac is no use and I am faced with a £400 upgrade to Office Pro. Sorry Apple - we do need a fix that does the job for Mac Mail and does not involve the use of more Microsoft Office software on the Mac. PS - my niece has a similar problem with her University e.mail - must be a really widespread issue.

  • Exchange won't get mail messages on iOS

    Hi:
Since about 24 hours after my update to 7.1.2, my iPhone (4S running 7.1.2) and my iPad (2 running 7.1.2) will no longer get messages on my Exchange account (Google Apps).
Other apps get my mail fine (like Gmail's own app), and my Mac IMAP client (Apple Mail.app) all work fine, as does web access.
Also, Calendar and Contacts sync fine over the Exchange/Gapps connection. It's just mail that won't work.
I've tried using a completely different Gapps account and also deleting the Exchange account from my iOS devices and reestablishing it. The former worked fine (meaning it's not Google) and the latter did not work at all.
If anyone has any ideas, suggestions or recommendations, I would very much appreciate it!
    Thanks.

No, it shows absolutely nothing in the "Inbox" area, even when I had my husband send a brand spankin' new message, that I hadn't clicked on or checked in the browser of the iMac Mail client.  I think it's pretty weird, too, but I haven't found anything that will help, other than just checking in the "All Messages" area of the account.
