As best I know all ISP providers operating Mail Servers for their customers REQUIRE "password authentication" in order to access and download your email. Why wouldn't you want to set it?

It sounds like Verizon set your data plan up wrong. They may have activated you for a Enterprise Server plan but not a regular BlackBerry Internet Service plan. This would cause the exact issue you are having when you go into email setup. You see the no accounts activated error then right below that it has a place for you to place your Enterprise email and password. Call Verizon back and get them to provision you correctly for personal email.

Remember, any purchased item from the itunes store is forever associated with the Apple ID used to buy it. So when you get prompted for an ID/password and it doesn't accept it, then you are using the wrong ID.
Go to Settings>iTunes and App Stores, be sure it's logged into the ID you have set on the iphone (since that one seems to be connecting with the right ID). If you've done this, then you might wait a bit to see if the "cannot connect to .. store" message has to do with internet connections.

If you've just added an address to your account then it will be an alternate/secondary email address, a rescue email address can only be added by answering 2 of your security questions. If you already had one on your account then go to https://appleid.apple.com/ and click 'Manage your Apple ID' on the right-hand side of that page and log into your account. Then click on 'Password and Security' on the left-hand side of that page and on the right-hand side you should see an option to send security question reset info to your rescue email address.
If you don't have a rescue email addressthen you will need to contact iTunes Support / Apple to get the questions reset.

You can't delete an existing account, you can only choose to stop using it. It will still be there should you decide to use it again in the future.
