HT1277 how do you connect your outgoing mail, it says its constantly offline

I have tried disconnecting and connecting my mail account a number of times and everytime i have tried to do this the outgoing server says its offline.
How do i get it to stay online?
Thanks

If the mail works for a while and then drops off, that's usually a problem with the network connection somewhere between the Mac and the mail server.   Could be a flaky WiFi, or a bad cable, a bad modem or a problem further along in the wiring to your ISP.  WiFi in villages and cities can encounter interference, for instance, and moving to a 5 GHz connection (if your equipment supports it) can help.  ISP connections can be flaky and drop.
If your mail is offline solidly and this is not a transitory problem, then there's usually problem with the username, password, port or server name settings, or a connection has switched to requiring SSL/TLS.  To test a connection that's entirely offline, use the Connection Doctor tool within Mail.app.  (Window > Connection Doctor)
Verify your credentials with your ISP web mail interface, if your ISP offers that.
There are two parts to a mail connection.  The incoming connection (usually POP or IMAP) that receives mail from the mail server, and the outgoing connection (SMTP or ESMTP) that sends the mail to the server.  Mail.app "hides" the latter settings; you have to select the "edit server list" option to get to the SMTP mail server configuration.  Check those against your particular ISP's requirements; you'll have to search for thiose.
If you're using a major ISP provider, post the name of the ISP, and somebody might be able to locate those mail server settings for you.  (Verizon is apparently rolling out a change to their settings, for instance.)
Apple offers a web-based email setup assistant that might help determine the settings, too.  That can help if you remove the existing account and re-add it, too.

    How do you turn your outgoing mail server to online vs offline

    I had this problem too but I fixed it today. I have been unable to send emails with two of my 4 accounts.
    Go to the mail menu preferences.
    Click on account in question.
    Select the outgoing SMTP mail server (the one offline), this has a drop down list, click on the edit server list.
    Click on the advanced button.
    Make sure use default port is checked.
    Make sure SSL is unchecked (unless your provider requires it, mine does not work with it checked).
    Have authentication set to password.
    User name should be your email address for that account.
    Make sure correct password is entered (for some strange reason my password box was blank on this account).
    Push the ok button.
    For me the SSL box was checked and the password was missing. This is strange to me considering I have unchecked the SSL Box on the mail preference advance page. Also, I went through the complete set up account when I first created the account, why was my outgoing server password box empty?
    I hope this helps.

    To add to sig's reply, "calibrating" does not calibrate Lithiu-Ion batteries, it calibrates the charge reporting circuitry.  If you look at the effect of deep discharging Lithium-Ion batteries in the data from the independent test group, Battery University, you will see that doing so shortens the life of the battery significantly. It looks like an optimum balance between use and life is at a discharge level of 50%.

    Your question makes no sense. You "connect" an iOS device to iTunes on your computer via WiFi or by using the supplied cable.

    How can you remove your e-mail on your profile? (Apple Support)

    I don't think you can remove your email.  If you are concerned about privacy make sure you have it set so that you are the only one who can view it. You do this under the privacy settings under Your Stuff - Profile  " If you want to change your email you can go here to make changes.

    How do you connect your iphone to a mac so the calender gets updated wirelessly?

    If you mean using iCloud, you go to Settings>iCloud on your phone, sign in with your Apple ID to create your account, then turn Calendars (and anything else you want to sync with iCloud) on.  Then on your Mac, go to System Preferences>iCloud sign in with your iCloud ID and check Calendars (and anything else you want to sync with iCloud).
    This requires iOS 5 or higher on your phone and OS X 10.7.5 or higher on your Mac.

  • HT1277 how do I find my outgoing mail server info for gmail account set up?

    how do I find my outgoing mail server info for gmail account setup?

    Most current Mac systems have a preloaded set of information and settings for the common email providers.  Try just choosing gmail and enter your userid and password at the prompts and see if the preload configures correctly for you.

    There is no other legit way to sync your iPod than using iTunes. There is 3rd party software to transfer content from the iPod to your computer, but not from the computer to your iPod.
    Disk mode is not supported.

  • How do you make all outgoing mail on iPhone come from one default address?

    I have multiple Apple devices which include laptop, iPad, iPhone 4, iPhone 4s.  I use several email accounts for my business.  How do you make the default outgoing email address one the iPhones one email address like you can on the laptop?  I want the outgoing email address to be the same on all devices.

    Thank you.  I think I got it for the 4 but not for the 4S.  In mail, contacts, calendars, do you choose default account?  Also, there does not appear to be a choice like this for the icloud.  How do you change the default on it?  The best I can see is icloud to account to advanced to mail to icloud account information.  On that screen there is a box that says allow sending from and the only choices you have are the icloud account and me account.  I do not see how to add another account if that is the right section.  I don't want the icloud or the me to be a return address.
    Thanks in advance.

  • How Can you get your hot mail.

    How can I use mail on my Mac to get my hot mail like i did with outlook on my PC.?
    Mac Minni   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

    Hello,
    If you want to use MSN / Hotmail with Apple's mail, check out the program HTTPMail Plugin at:
    http://www.automagic-software.com/downloads.php
    You can also download it from SourceForge:
    http://sourceforge.net/projects/httpmail-plugin
    And, strangely, while both the developer's site and SourceForge lists the latest version as 1.47 - Tiger release 2005-11-25, I found a 1.48 release at:
    http://mac.softpedia.com/get/Internet-Utilities/httpmail-plugin.shtml
    And also:
    http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/10842
    And also:
    http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/18189
    I just downloaded the 1.48 version, and it is in-fact a 1.48 release. So, that would appear to be the most current version. Perhaps the normal / direct sites just haven't been updated yet.
    You can see a screen-shot and brief description of the older 1.46 version at:
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/email_chat/danielshttpmailplugin.html
    The 1.47 version of the httpmail plug-in was released in November of 2005. But, the 1.48 version was apparently released in March of 2006.
    It is not a "universal binary". It is a PowerPC only program / plug-in.
    This is not an issue if you are using a PowerPC Mac. You can just install it and use it.
    As for Intel Macs, it will install, but not run in a Intel Native program.
    If you want to use a PowerPC plug-in with Mail on an Intel Mac, then you have to set Mail to run in PowerPC mode through Rosetta.
    That will enable the plug-in to work. But, that means running mail through Rosetta which may be slower.
    Just to be safe, you might actually want to set mail to run in Rosetta before you install the plug-in. That would probably be the safest route.
    Here's a document about forcing a program to run in Rosetta.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303120
    Give this a try and see if it works for you.
    Hope this helps.

  • How do you connect your external monitor(s)?

    More frequently I'm using an external monitor when working on Arch Linux, so I made this script, which works ok for now. This is a simple approach for this kind of stuff I think, so I'm wondering what you people out there are using to connect your external monitors. I guess there's a bunch of people in this community that are using two (or more) monitors? Please post your beloved script or name the package you are using. I would also be happy with some feedback or tips on my script.
    #!/bin/bash
    #~/scripts/vga
    case $1 in
    -r|--right) xrandr --output VGA1 --auto --right-of LVDS1 ;;
    -l|--left) xrandr --output VGA1 --auto --left-of LVDS1 ;;
    -o|--off) xrandr --output VGA1 --off ;;
    *) xrandr --output VGA1 --auto ;;

    When I'm at home I connect my laptop to my TV and use that as the only screen. I have mapped the screen fn-key to this script:
    #!/bin/bash
    if xrandr -q | grep "HDMI1 connected" > /dev/null ; then
    # xrandr --newmode "1920x1080" 138.500 1920 1968 2000 2080 1080 1083 1088 1111 +hsync -vsync
    # xrandr --addmode HDMI1 1920x1080
    xrandr --output HDMI1 --mode 1360x768
    xrandr --output LVDS1 --off
    else
    xrandr --output LVDS1 --mode 1366x768
    xrandr --output HDMI1 --off
    fi
    Works perfectly.
