HT1277 mail 4.6 will not open
I just updated my OS X software to 10.6.8 and now I get a message that "mail.app" will not open. The update installed a newer version of applemail so I now have two versons of mail.app on my hard drive. When I try to open the old version (the one that worked perfectly fine earlier today), version 4.5, I get a message that says this version is not compatible with OS X 10.6. When I try to open up the new applemail 4.6 nothing happens. The mail program does not open and no error messages are shown.
I either want to uninstall the update to OS X, or I want to fix whatever is wrong with these two programs and get the mail 4.6 to open and run properly.
If anyone can shed some light on this it woulb be greatly appreciated.

I'm in the same boat as you, dakriv. I just allowed Software Update to install the latest security patch (including Mail 4.6) on my MacBook Pro (running OSX 10.6.8) and it killed my local email access. Mail 4.5 gives the error message noted by RFK and Mail 4.6 won't open at all. Hopefully, Apple will fix this problem soon. Until then, it looks like I'll have to rely on my iPad for email.

Firefox will display hotmail e-mail inbox, but will not open them
Firefox will be able to load Hotmail and display your inbox- but will not respond when clicking on any emails, options like new and reply, or junk mail and other folders. The mouse works fine with all other programs and Hotmail runs as normal on other browsers, making it a seemly Firefox only problem.
Clear the cache and the cookies from sites that cause problems.
"Clear the Cache":
*Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Offline Storage (Cache): "Clear Now"
"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:
*Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
*Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

Mail photo browser will not open using button or menu item
I have a Air 13" and recently installed Mountain Lion. Now the photo browser window in mail (apple mail) will not appear. Not from teh photo browser button on compose email or the file menu item. It worked flawlessly before. Can't find anything online about this.
Assistance is appreciated.

Mail 2.0 will not open or respond
My computer was off for a couple of months. I turned it back on and tried to open mail 2.0. On the Doc the mail application appeared and a black arrow appeared below it. The arrow did not flash twice like it does with the other applications. It just stayed solid and the mail bar at the top of the screen appeared. The mouse cursor turned into a rotating beach ball. I waited for awhile and nothing happened. I grabbed my install disk and tried to install the mail PKG. It did install Mail again. Actually it said updating. Afterwards I still had the same problem. Is there any way to get it working again without doing an entire system install?
Have you recently installed, removed or disabled any fonts?
If there is a problem with a required font for Apple applications to launch and/or function properly, this type of problem can occur.
Regarding targeting the Mail.app preference file, do the following:
With the Mail.app quit and using the Finder, go to Home > Library > Mail. Copy the Mail folder and place the copy on the Desktop for backup purposes.
Using the Finder, go to Home > Library > Preferences > com.apple.mail.plist. Move the com.apple.mail.plist file to the Desktop.
Note: Moving the com.apple.mail.plist file out of the Preferences folder will require re-entering all email account information when re-launching Mail.
Launch Mail and decline the prompt to import mailboxes. After re-entering all email account information the same as before, the Mail.app should rediscover the existing account named folders and mailbox files at Home > Library > Mail.
If the Mail.app launches successfully and after confirming all mailboxes were successfully rediscovered, you can delete the copy of the Mail folder and old com.apple.mail.plist file from the Desktop.
If this doesn't resolve it, then it may be a problem with a required font. -

Unfortunately you are not providing us with any useful information. We need to know what app you are using to email at the very least. However what I'd suggest you do is call AppleCare, you have 90 days of free telephone support (the number is in your owners manual) and they will be happy to assist you. They're open M-Saturday so you will need to wait until tomorrow.
BTW if you have not been exposed to these please bookmark them and begin using them. You may find your answer in one of the videos.

I am a registered member of a Specialist Car Forum. I subscribed to have E'mail alerts to my google mail account when responses were made to the posts that I provide comment to. During the past week I have been getting the following notice in black font on a plain white background :- Internal Server Error
I suspected a problem with google mail so I forwarded the troublesome E'mail with link attached to my AOL account. I then opened the E'mail,clicked on the link and it activated immediately.
Whilst both are powered through FireFox I was wondering whether there is a FireFox/google mail issue as FireFox/AOL does not have an issue. My ISP is O2.I have exactly the same issue. After FF upgraded on its own to version 5, it won't open from start menu, taskbar, desktop icon, or even by pressing firefox.exe in program files directory. It does so by pressing a link at msn messenger, inside Outlook etc.
Disabling all addons, didn't help. Moreover, I can't start FF in safe mode or start profile manager (Start > Run> firefox.exe -ProfileManager).

Hi All,
I'm trying to set up my mac mail, unfortunately everytime I try and open a viewer window, mail quits. I have reinstall Mountain Lion twice now but this has changed nothing can anyone help me please?

Apple Mail's window will not open/show on desktop
Ran into a problem this weekend and can not seem to figure out what is causing it. I open mail and it launches since it is showing in the dock and the mail menu is visible. The main mailbox window is missing and most all of the menus are greyed out, even in the window menu where it allows you to select a window to see the main mail window is not showing up.
I have manually rebuilt the mailbox database and that did not help. I deleted the "Account.plist" file from the ~/library/mail/MailData/ folder and this seem to work. When I launched mail after I deleted this file the Main mail window was there with all my mailbox folders and emails. The only thing missing was the inbox for my main email account. Mail required that a new email account be created otherwise it would quit, I create the email account and everything was fine, until I quit out of mail. The next time I launched it again i was back to not have the main mail window. The only way to get it to come back is to delete the "Account.plist" file again and created the main email account. The only work around I have at this point is not to quit mail.
This kind of behavior tells me a file must be corrupted or something, but I can not seem to figure out which file is having the issue.
Can anyone provide any insight into what could be the issue here.I am going to look at the fonts as well, thanks for suggestion, not that the original email database is working again, i am getting font error when Mail is opening up but they do not seem to be causing any major problems. Before I did any thing else I check to make sure permission was correct and they were a mess so I repaired them all. It appear the last Maverick update really screwed up the second user account on this computer. The other one was fine no issue bit this one had all sorts of issue most of them were easy fixes like repairing permissions.

Mail and Safari will not open after 10.4.6 update(s)
Client's Ibook was running Jaguar 10.2.8, and Mail was locking up as it was overstuffed. Upgraded to 10.4.3 to fix the problem, and it did, in fact, fix it.
Was then prompted to install all available updates, which I thought I would do as a courtesy before returning the system to the client.
Now, after the updates, neither Mail nor Safari opens. I get no spinning beach ball...just no response. Other programs, including IE, MS Office programs, and System Preferences are working fine. Starting in Safe Boot makes no difference.
Kind of at a loss and all help is appreciated...thanks in advance!OK. Do this:
1. Open /Applications/Utilities/Console.
2. In the File menu, choose either Open Console Log, or Open System Log, or both, so that the Console application displays the contents of both system.log and console.log.
3. In the Finder, go to the /Applications folder, and try to open Mail and/or Safari by double-clicking on them.
4. Look at the bottom of the Console windows for messages that could have been written there as a result of the failed launch. These may provide useful information to properly identify the problem.

I upgraded to 10.6.2 and Safari. Now I cannot open my Mail or Safari. I get a message that says it Unexpectedly Quit. I see in the details it says unable to gather system configuration information. Does anybody have an idea how to fix this?

Try deleting this file.
com.apple.launchservices.plist
~/Library/Preferences.
Move that file to the Trash, restart your Mac and try to launc Mail and Safari. If that doesn't help...
Download and install the Mac OS X v10.6.2 Update (Combo)
It's ok to do this even though you are running 10.6.2. Make sure and repair disk permissions after the installation.
Quit any open applications/programs. Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.
