HT1277 Mail Incoming

On awakening from sleep, Mountain Lion Mail can send SMTP ok, but cannot recieve POP incoming messages.  Mailbox /  "Get New Mail" does not respond and gives the sound that indicates no incoming mail available. The only fix I have found is to restart Mail. This problem did not occur in Lion.

Ok so open your mail prefrences and go to accounts, remove the account completely. Then open Safari go to the online webmail, and sign into the account. Afterwards, mimimize safari and reopen the mail application, add the account again, the account should resync with the server and establish a better connection.

  • SMTP mail incoming

    Hi
I have an application in APEX 3 on 10gR2 that requires to be able to intercept SMTP mail incoming and process it. This mail would be sent to a particular address.
Our email servers our exchange 2003 servers would it be possible to retrieve the contents on a mailbox on that server and process it or would I need to put a forward on that mailbox to the incoming oracle SMTP server?
    Thanks
    Adam

i am doing this with oracle workflow. it is part of the database license.
there you can push incoming mail to any place in the database.
the configuration is a little tricky.

  • HT1277 choosing incoming mail server settings

Am not sure how to choose incoming mail server settings for my iMac. I only have POP, IMAC, Exchange and none seem to work. I have several email accounts and have been told that the apple mail system can manage all of them. Help?

    Hello Anthony,
We need to know your ISP or Mail Provider(s) to be specific, many use different port, protocols, & Authentication methods.
For instance here's how to setup for Comcast...

  • Apple Mail--incoming messages

Hi...  I am setting up a new MacBook Pro and I use Apple Mail just as I did on my old computer...  I've imported the mail and tried to set the new one up like it is/was on the old.
But something is different because every five minutes (or at least it seems like every five minutes) when I have Mail setup to check for new mail, I see things like
    8 incoming messages
followed a only seconds later by say,
    15 incoming messages
But there are no mail messages actually coming in and nor should there be???
Once that message or two gets done, I look around for any new mail and there is none..  I can also immediately click the "check mail" button manually and, as expected, it will get the NO NEW MAIL sound...  But then five minues later when it's again time to check mail automatically, more often than not, here comes another barrage of
    12 incoming messages
or something silly like that...  I thought it might be RSS feed stuff but I can't find any of that set up or running...
It's clearly not real messages coming in, at least nothing I can find...  And my old setup on my old computer (also Apple Mail and both old and new are running on 10.8.3, Mail version 6.3) certainly does nothing like that...
So what is it???  What are these phantom incoming messages??
    thanks...  bob..

Why not just turn off the Gmail "Important" and "All Mail" labels for IMAP access? You can do this in Gmail's Webmail interface (gmail.com), under Settings (the gear icon), in the "Labels" tab. Turn off "Show in IMAP" for those two labels.

  • Mac Mail "Incoming Messages" seems to be in and endless loop.

When I open Mac Mail it automatically stars downloading new incoming mail messages. The indicator bar in the bottom left of the mail window indicates incoming messages 1 of 20. It seems to go for ten minutes or so, then increases to 4 of 58, then increases to 10 of 112, then increases to 14 of 197... This continues endlessly until I eventually have to force quit the application. Seems like something is corrupted in one or several of my many mailboxes I monitor with Mac Mail. What can I do to fix this?

First thing to do is never post your actual email address in the forums; you don't want to get lots of spam as a result of spambots harvesting that address.
Next, login to the web interface of your .mac account and verify how many messages are actually there, both new Unread messages, and already Read messages. Write those numbers down and then logout.
Quit Mail and go to Home/Library/Mail and remove the mailbox for your IMAP (.mac) account. Then delete any files that start with Envelope Index.
Restart Mail and wait for it to download your .mac email again and rebuild your Mail index; then check to see if the problem continues.

  • How to find Hot Mail incoming and out going Mail server info

I am a new users to the Mac. I want to get my Hotmail mail forwarded to Mac Mail. I have tried unsuccessfully to get through Hot mail their POP server Information for incoming and outgoing server address
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Chipfish

Hello, and welcome to the Discussions.
Do you have a paid hotmail account? I believe to use as POP requires the paid subscription, and then a plugin. See:

  • Mac mail incoming messages

Occasionally when I click get mail, the incoming messages at bottom left say I'm receiving more than actually show up as new messages. I've already contacted my internet provider and they say I don't have any problems with my mail program. The guy at Apple store couldn't figure it out either. This is a random occurrence so it's difficult to demonstrate at the store. Has anyone experienced this problem?

yeah, mail sometimes seems to do that, but doesn't really matter I guess

  • HT1277 mail not showing up???

just wiped my mac and installed mountain lion, icloud has pulled down my mac email details but nothing else, i can configure manually - but the issue is that no email is showing at all...?
    any ideas?

Your other accounts are not really all that relevant to this discussion, other than meaning that your network connection is probably working; each account entry is separate.
    What did Connection Doctor report?
I am assuming your iCloud account is incorrectly configured.
If not,  > System Preferences > iCloud, and configure your iCloud credentials and access.
Here is the Apple troubleshooting document for iCloud mail (TS4002).
I had some issues with an explicit account entry for iCloud mail, and ended up removing it and migrating to the iCloud account entry. (The iCloud set-up can be via the iCloud entry or via an explicit account entry, depending on the version of OS X.  Your version is recent enough to have the iCloud entry in mail, if things are working.)
Why Apple's automated system is pointing to an archived article (HT1277) here is an open question, too.

  • Mac Mail incoming messages stuck in endless loop

My Mac Mail (Version 7.3) suddenly went crazy on me this morning - when you check for incoming messages, it will show under mail activity that it is checking but the progress bar will fill 80% of the way then stop, with no messages downloaded. And if you go to check for incoming messages again, the total number of messages will double. On and on like that in an endless loop toward infinity. I was able to see that I do not, in fact, have thousands of e-mails waiting for me by clicking account info -> messages on server. Like a dummy I deleted my account (without backing up my sent and drafts, much to my combined shame and dismay) but that didn't fix the problem. I only have one account, a POP3, in my Mac Mail. OSX version is 10.9.4

  • HT1277 mail malfunction

what do i put as incoming mail server when adding another email server to mail mail application

    Hello,
Who is your eMail provider, the part after the @ sign?

  • Mail: incoming message text all turned to fractions? What did I do?

    Hello,
I'm by no means a power user, but I can take direct instruction well.
My Mail app displays the text of incoming email content as lots of tiny, closely kerned fractions (rather than English).
This came about after I tinkered with some special character settings in a settings panel reached through the GTD app called "Things". There was mention in that application's tutorials of applying special characters to tags. I happily went along in what I thought was a "Things"-specific Character panel - it must have been a system panel. I'm assuming that I inadvertently altered some default language display settings system wide, that affect Mail (and strangely Adobe CS3's Help Application, too).
I went back to "Things" to manually undo whatever I had done, removing a few special characters from the classification of favorites that I had assigned them in that character panel, but to no avail.
Does anyone know of a way to reset language settings that would affect Mail?
I'd go quick to work with any suggestions!
    Thank you.

The problem you describe is normally caused by the presence of the font Helvetica Fractions on your machine. It replaces Latin by fractions and is not compatible with OS X. Find it and trash it and your problem should go away.

  • Mail-incoming mail server

I want to set my hotmail to come through mail but i don't know what to put for my incoming mail server. do i put hotmail.com, @hotmail.com??? i don't know anything would be appreciated.. thanks

Typically mail server names are of the type 'mail.serviceprovider.com' or 'incoming.serviceprovider.com' or some such, but I'm not aware that Hotmail make these servers directly available to POP, the mail protocol that the mail application is MacOS (and indeed, most mail software) uses.
Last I heard, it was necessary to add a component to mail to allow it to access hotmail. One such is at http://sourceforge.net/projects/httpmail-plugin/

  • Mac Mail incoming email not loading when on home cable broadband

I'm having a new problem (started happening just 2 night ago, for no apparent reason). Incoming emails no longer working on any apple device (iPhone 5, iPad, MacBook Pro) when connected to my home broadband wireless modem (cable, netgear cg3100d). This is despite all devices accessing websites without any issues, and speedtest showing 32mbps when connected to this modem. When I take any of these devices to connect to my work's wireless internet connection the mails load fine. Likewise if i switch off wifi on the phone and use the 3G or 4G the emails load.
What could be the cause since I haven't changed any settings? I'm nowhere near my monthly download limit either.
I've also noticed that Apple TV loading content has slowed right down. This seems to be related since it has occurred at the same time. Strange that only email and Apple TV is affected. Websites all load fine and at full speed.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Timdk,
The port settings for mail.bigpond.com changed a few months ago and this is starting to be enforced. Please check your settings against those in the table on this link: https://go.telstra.com.au/helpandsupport/-/email-settings-summary
I would suggest performing a factory reset of the modem via the interface http://192.168.0.1 and you will find this option located under Set Password in the left hand menu.
Once done, test it again and let us know how you went

  • Mail 'incoming mail' password problems

Hi everyone, I wonder if anyone can help with the settings in Apple mail on my G5 OSX 10.5.8?
I have recently opened a new email account but I am having difficulty with the settings in 'mail' I have set everything correctly but my 'incoming password' set on my G5 desktop is being declined. I have used the same settings on my G4 laptop, and my Mac pro with some difficulty but I got there in the end. I have also set it up on my iphone 4s without any problems. But my G5 no matter how many times I try, which is several, refuses point blank! I have tried both POP and IMAP, different servers advised by my web hosts, but all to no avail. I have had some limited success where it allows it for a few emails/moments both ways but then refuses. Also I have been able to send emails without a problem, but not able to receive. I have obviously checked all the settings numerous times, and they have been checked and agreed with by the web host. The problem appears to be the 'incoming password', which I have also tried changing for the email account. For some reason my G5 seems to be just sending the wrong password? I'm not sure if this can be an encryption problem? I have other email accounts on this computer and they are all working fine. I have tried deleting the 'keychain access' for the account and starting afresh, and even tried using a different keyboard to type in the password, to no avail? I did not have an easy time setting the G4 (OSX 10.5.8) and the Mac Pro (OSX 10.6.8) but they are working okay now. If I use the Outlook Web App on the same computer it logs on no problem. It is the apple 'mail' on the G5 OSX 10.5.8 which is causing the problem. I am drawing a blank on this one and would be grateful for any advice? Thanks.

Create a New User Account, and as that New User try to set up this one account -- as it is POP, set to leave messages on the server after download. If not familiar with setting up a New User Account, see:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.5/en/8235.html
This will be a useful test, and is not meant to suggest a permanent switch to the New User Account, but rather a test of the Mail application outside of your normal User Account.
Also in System Preferences/Networks click on Advanced, then Proxies and make sure no proxy selections have been checked.

  • HT1277 mail for my domain

I am trying to set up mac mail with my own domain, the outgoing is working but when someone tries to reply it is getting mail failure delivery problems. my domain mail is support by google/a... any advice?

Can you reply to your own incoming mail? - Send yourself a test message.
I have my mail set to always bcc myself so that I can monitor it - it also keeps my various POP accounts synchronised.
