The most direct way is to configure VPN access with your Internet router, assuming it has a built-in VPN feature. What are you using for a router? If your router doesn't have VPN, another option (albeit less secure) is to set up port forwarding or NAT.
That's the networking side of things. What do you want your editors to be able to do from home with FCSvr? The extremely limited bandwidth will obviously significantly limit what is practical when using FCSvr via a typical residential broadband connection.

  • How do you set up VPN on Mac from information that's only from a Windows computer?

My workplace only supports setting up VPN on my Windows computer, but not my Mac, and I would love to access VPN from my Mac as well.
I am running Mountain Lion on my Mac and Windows 7 on my PC.

You will need to know what type of VPN they use, L2TP/IPsec and PPTP or a proprietary one.
With that information there are lots of guides on how to set up the L2TP and PPTP on the web, usually they are for a commercial VPN supplier but you would need to put your companies info into the correct boxes in System Preferences/Network.
If it is proprietary, go to the makers web site and see if here is a suitable client to download and use, again enter your companies info into that software.
There is also Open VPN client that may work.
One thing to be aware of is that some companies forbid any connection to their system unless using approved software.

  • How can I set up VPN Sharing?

    Hello All,
I work from home and VPN in using Check Point's Connectra SSL Network Extender (it's browser-based).
Pretty much each OS X update breaks this VPN "solution." It is, apparently, a DNS issue and someone had posted a fix that "repaired" the mDNS by putting in back to the version in 10.6.5. That worked for Snow Leopard, but now that I've upgraded to Lion, the problem has presented itself again and the 10.6.5 repair no longer works.
I have an older MacBook Pro still running Snow Leopard which can still successfully run the VPN. Without having a fix for Lion, I would like to share the MacBook Pro's VPN connection with my iMac (running Lion). I can share the MBP's internet connection with the iMac with no problem (MBP connects to AirPort wirelessly and iMac is connected to MBP via ethernet), but the iMac traffic does not go through the VPN connection.
I understand that the solution will probably require IP forwarding, but I haven't been able to get that to work.
Here's the output of ifconfig (with external IP address Xed out):

    Thanks for your reply, sulie4real!
The problem is that my work's VPN "solution" doesn't work on Lion, but it does work on Snow Leopard using 10.6.5's mDNS Responder.
For my work's VPN, I have to go to a web site, which downloads a java applet to scan connected systems for viruses (it allows macs to pass through without scan verification)--this actually doesn't work with Safari and only seems to work with Firefox or Opera (Chrome gives the same error as Safari).
So, I can't use OS X' native VPNs, unfortunately.
    Thanks again for your response!

  • How do I set up VPN?

The VPN I used to have in Snow Leopard and Tiger is no longer working in Lion. I hope there is a simple fix to this.

More info please.  VPN issues are often very specific to what protocol you're using (PPTP, L2TP, IPSec) and what version of the VPN software you're using, and the VPN endpoint server.
For example, many people are reporting issues with the older Cisco VPN software, but are just fine with the current Cisco AnyConnect or OSX's built-in VPN.  And many people were reporting VPN issues connecting to non-enterprise grade VPN enpoints like DD-WRT.
BTW, I'm using OSX's built-in VPN connecting by PPTP to a Cisco RV042, L2TP to a Exchange 2003 server, and IPSec to a Cisco ASA 5510.  All are working just fine on Lion.

  • Set up VPN behind modem

Hello. My server is behind a modem and I am wondering how I would set up VPN. There is no router, there isn't even a network, so what would be the starting and ending IP addresses? Would I need to configure the DHCP service? Thanks for your help.

What sort of modem, and what's on the other end of the modem, and how is your Mac connected to the modem?
What task(s) do you want to do with the VPN?  Connect from the Mac to another network, or connect from another network to your Mac?
(I'm grey-haired enough to have used 110 and 300 baud modems, and that stuff is rare these days.  And it's not really something that's easily feasible with a modem, short of some real hackery and a pile of PPP or SLIP, and that's not "fun" to get working.  And it's not at all fast.)

  • I do not see where to enter IP addresses in the Open VPN setup. Also, how can I set it up so that I can choose different servers in the same way as I can currently choose them with my VPN app but for PPTP?

I think I have it working on my iPhone 5. But, I do not see how I can control the exit point that I would like for the VPN. Are all the exit points shown in the VPN setting now going to work with Open VPN, or do they remain PPTP? If I am reading correctly, they look like they remain PPTP. If I cannot control the exit point for open VPN, which exit point is the default in the profile you provided me?I note that Open VPN Connect does not work with any of the new 64 bit devices like the iPhone 5S, the iPad Air, and the new iPad MIni. Is there any chance that you guys will come up with an update for your app so that open VPN can be made to work on all iOS devices? That would be nice, particularly if the Open VPN Connect app does not give me a choice of exit points. Thanks,

Just a quick note to tell you that Open VPN has updated their app so that it is compatible with 64 bit ARM devices like the iPhone 5S, the iPad Air, and the iPad Mini Retina. That does not resolve the problem of how to easily choose among the various possibilities for the exit server. We need to find an easy way to choose.

Thank you for trying the new Firefox. I'm sorry that you’re unhappy with the new design.
I understand your frustration and surprise at the removal of these features but I can't undo these changes. I'm just a support volunteer and I do not work for Mozilla. But you can send any feedback about these changes to http://input.mozilla.org/feedback. Firefox developers collect data submitted through there then present it at the weekly Firefox meeting
I recommend you try to adjust to 29 and see if you can't make it work for you before you downgrade to a less secure and soon outdated version of Firefox.
Here are a few suggestions for restoring the old design. I hope you’ll find one that works for you:
*Use the [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/classicthemerestorer/ Classic Theme Restorer] to bring back the old design. Learn more here: [[How to make the new Firefox look like the old Firefox]]

How do I set up a VPN on a MacBook Pro that is running Mountain Lion?

Open System Preferences and choose Network. In the left column, click the "+" to add a new interface. In the dialog that appears, name the service and choose the interface type VPN. The rest of the configuration details depends on the VPN settings of the server you are connecting to.
    Hope that helps.

  • How do I set DNS order when using a VPN?

Hi, to increase my data security when using local hotspots and WI-FI, I've set up a PPTP server on my home network and connect to it using my MBP OSX 10.5.4. So far, everything's fine.
But I found that the VPN connection will still try to resolve host names using the DNS of the underlying WLAN/UMTS connection. Which is bad for two reasons:
First, my local network at home *doesn't permit DNS* access other than the internal DNS. So, all connection attempts time out three times, keeping me waiting in the meantime until it proceeds to connect to my internal DNS.
Second, internal hosts are *not visible* when using external DNS. Obviously... so just adjusting the firewall and allowing external DNS isn't even a solution.
I've tried all kinds of settings, set my VPN as the default connection, manually added DNS settings to it or read about the inner workings of the resolv library of OSX. After a very easy initial setup, I'm stuck due to a tiny detail that keeps me from using the VPN. Is there anything I can do to actually use VPN in a proper way?
    Regards,
    Christian
p.s.: I'm currently about to try IPsec, just wondering if there's any difference. Will keep you updated...

Close ... before going for a specific Cisco app ... lets find out some details:
    Host we need more details:
What is your server environment (Windows Server, or Mac OS X Server, or Linux)?
What security is implemented in your environment - as what is restricted (RDP for all or specifc credentials on all machines? Are you part of local admin group to the server you wish to connect)?
Does your environment Support CISCO IPSec connection? If so use Settings> VPN and IPSec tab to enter VPN details, if not then go with above suggestion. IF your restricted to RSA then either built in VPN settings or 3rd party app for RSA would suffice.
Finally, there are many RDP applications out there I use "Mocha RDP Light" (free minimal ads when launched not when connecting).

  • Help in setting up VPN for Remote Desktop

    Hi,
We recently purchased a Cisco RV220W VPN Router and want to set up VPN connections for about 10 users(employess) to connect to their work PCs (mostly win 7 & win 8) from their home computers (windows & mac) using Remote Desktop. The documentation is quite poor. Can anyone point me to a tutorial and/or help me out with steps and settings? From the Admin Guide, it looks like I should be configuring Remote Access with an IPsec Client, but it's not clear how to handle/route multiple machines?

    Hi Ray,
You can use the QuickVPN client to connect up to Windows 7 PCs. Windows 8 is not supported as of yet.
For Windows 8 and Mac you can create PPTP users or try a third party VPN client like Shrewsoft (Windows) or IPSecuritas (Mac). You also have the SSL VPN option in the RV220W. Please note that the third party clients are not officially supported by Cisco.
There are some good instructions for setting up Shrewsoft with the SA500 which is similar to the RV220W here:
    https://supportforums.cisco.com/docs/DOC-9378#comment-7216
    IPSecuritas for Mac:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/security/multi_function_security/multi_function_security_appliance/sa_500/technote/note/SA500_mac_appnote.pdf
Please reply if you have any questions.
