My G4 Apple PowerBook will not boot further than pale blue/grey screen displaying "flashing file symbol / flashing ?"
Last previous action:  Used Firewire cable and "Target Mode" to copy files from G4 eMac to the PowerBook.
I worked from the eMac to the PowerBook, making the PowerBook the "Target".      Files seemed to transfer OK.     Won't boot from InstallDisc.  Holding down T on startup results in Target mode screen.   I have a G4 iMac and a G4 eMac.    Can I use either of these with Firewire cable to boot-up my PowerBook ?
I'm new to using this Communities & Forums Help.   Can someone please help me to get going again ! !     Thanks for your time.  Graflood

    Hello,
It sounds to me like the PowerBook is stuck in target disk mode.
It's expecting the iMac/eMac to be there when booting. Seeming it's not attached, it will show a flashing folder.
If your PowerBook internal drive is bootable, then simply hold down the option key when booting and select it's internal hard drive. That should boot your PowerBook into Mac OS X.

  • Just installed iTunes 10.4.1 and it wouldn't work.  Did a system restore.  ITunes will not boot.  Computer tells me I must reinstall iTunes.  How do I do that?

Just installed iTunes 10.4.1 and it wouldn't work.  Did a system restore.  ITunes will not boot.  Computer tells me I must reinstall iTunes.  How do I do that?

Thanks, but since iTunes will not boot, I cannot run that iTunes diagnostic.  Just need to know how to reinstall iTunes (Windows XP). Do I need to remove the existing non working version of iTunes, or can I just install iTunes from Apple like I was a new user?

  • In the get info screen the HD drive is lock, can not boot the computer

I can not boot my imac.  In the Get Info window the Hard Drive has no access marked for everyone and a  minus sign on the hard drive.  How can I get around this??

Boot into Recovery (command-R at startup), launch Disk Utility, select the startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name), and run Repair Permissions (not Repair Disk.) Then reboot as usual. That will undo the worst of the damage. You may need to reinstall some of your third-party software.

  • Apple TV will not find my computer on homesharing

It used to work before.  I am using a Windows 7 computer with the latest version of iTunes (12.0.1.26), the latest update for Apple TV and all have the same appleID.  All devices have home sharing turned on.  I have unplugged my router, restarted all devices (computer, appletv and itunes) and still have no luck.  Any other advice would be greatly appreciated.

  • Apple logo, phone will boot no further, have tried all standar reboot suggestions, but cannot get beyound logo

my phone is stuck at the apple logo, it will not reboot, have tried all stanadard reboot techniques, but no luck, even left the phone battery die, still no luck.

    Hi kjsav7,
When you state you have tried all the standard reboot techniques, does that include recovery mode?
If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch doesn't respond or doesn't turn on - Apple Support
If your device gets stuck during startup
When starting up, you might see the Apple logo or a red or blue screen for a long time, or your device might restart again. Try these steps:
Make sure that you have iTunes 12 or later on your computer.
Put your device in recovery mode.
When you get the option to restore or update, select Update. This will reinstall iOS without erasing your data.

  • My apple G4 is not booting up. It's crashing every time. What should I do?

My power mac G4 won't even boot up. It's crashing every time. What can I do?

Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.
Does it boot into any of these modes?
    Holding Option/alt key at bootup.
    Holding SHIFT key at bootup.
    Target mode...

Does it boot to Single User Mode, CMD+s keys at bootup, if so try...
    /sbin/fsck -fy
Repeat until it shows no errors fixed.
(Space between fsck AND -fy important).
Resolve startup issues and perform disk maintenance with Disk Utility and fsck...

  • Phone NOT booting up, stays at While HTC incredible screen indefinitely...

i have tryed a system restore and clean wipe, niether of wich fixed the problem... does any one know why.

What steps did you take to get to the Factory/Master restore if you can not get to the menu???
    Try this:

    2. Hold the volume DOWN key then press the power key. Wait 2 seconds and release the power key first then release the volume key.
    3. Wait about 10 seconds before touching anything....this is important as the phone is reading PMG files.
    4. Click down on the volume DOWN key 4 times.
    5. Press the power key.

  • White screen with apple logo - WILL NOT BOOT UP!

HELP!! My macbook is about 3 years old. I've already had the hard drive die on me once and I lost everything. This time is a little different.
I have been getting the colour wheel of death for quite some time now but my computer has continued to work, just slow and constantly shutting down programs. I thought I should restart so I did a force restart and when my computer came back on all it had was a white screen with the grey apple logo. That's it! It does nothing!!! It will not load past this screen. If I leave it on it will continually shut down and turn on to this page over and over every few min. I hear the fans and it sounds like something might be going on but still nothing! *All I see is a white screen with a grey apple logo. PLEASE HELP!* I don't want to lose all my personal items again
I'm not 100% sure of my operating system and I'm not to good with tech stuff so please make it so I can follow the instructions.
    THANK YOU!

Hi cmiano and welcome to Apple Discussions!
Even more important than the steps listed by Dave is *make all efforts to back up your data NOW!* As your first hard drive failure might have indicated to you, drives are mechanical devices and are thus subject to failure. Computer people will tell you there are two types of hard drives: those that have failed and those that are going to fail. The only question is when. Keep a backup of your data current at all times. Important data should be backed up at least twice.
Having said that, in order to do it now you are going to need to do some work. I would remove the hard drive from your MacBook and put it in an enclosure. Connect this enclosure to another Mac and copy over all your important data.
After you have done this, put the hard drive back in your MacBook and do the steps that Dave suggested.
    Best of luck.

  • Apple tv does not boot

My 2nd gen apple tv MC572LL/A 2010 (5 months old)  has been acting erratic and now won't load at all.   It just has the fast blinking light with no signal to tv.   Out of the box and first few months it worked perfectly, however the last few times I had to unplug to reboot, but it eventually loaded.  Now nothing at all.  Reset attempts also not successful of router and unit.  Anything else I can try to reset or reboot?  Service?

From the Apple TV 2 manual:
    - Disconnect the power and HDMI cables from Apple TV.
    - Connect one end of a micro USB cable (sold separately) to the back of
Apple TV, and the other end to your computer.
    - Open iTunes on your computer, select Apple TV in the Source list, and then
    click Restore

  • Messages Go to My Phone, Not to My Computer

I recently got a new computer, and it came with the latest version of Skype installed. Before then, I've been using skype on my phone (Samsung Galaxy Note 4).
Here's my problem - messages from group chats go to my phone but don't show up on my computer. I also can't type in group chats on my computer, and it only shows call times and missed calls. I can call perfectly fine, and I recently had a 1 on 1 message, so I know that works.

Couple of options: you can open your message conversation, tap Edit at the top, tap each part of the conversatiion you want to keep, tap Share at the bottom, select your email address.  Another option is to take screenshots of the conversation and email the photos to yourself.  A third option is to use 3rd party software such as PhoneView, which will transfer the entire message conversation.
