HT1296 can i transfer music from my ipod to a new itunes library?

My laptop crashed, and I'm trying to get my music from my ipod touch (1st generation) to my new computer.  The cloud let me get only songs I purchased from iTunes, but the music I ripped from cds is not available on the cloud.
I'd like to transfer my iPod touch library to iTunes on my new computer and then sync it with my iPad (1st generation).
PLEASE HELLP!!!

It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer.  Use your backup copy to put everything back.
The ipod is not a backup/storage device.  The sync is one way - computer to ipod.  The only exception is itunes purchases

I want to get my music from my ipod to my itunes library. is this even possible?
    PLEASE LET ME KNOW!!!!!

    Hi Liv-itup,
    Yes, it is possible.
I assume you must have downloaded on some other machine than the one you want your music on...
First, Authorize your current machine to your iTunes account - iTunes.app>Store>Authorize Computer.
Second, get yourself a copy of Senuti (iTunes backwards) - it's free:

    and off you go.

Can i transfer music from my ipod to someone elses itunes account??

CD's you can give to them to rip to their own iTunes.  If you do that, legally you are supposed to delete any copies you may have in your posession as you no longer own the content.
For iTunes purchases, they are permanently tied to the account they were purchased with.
You can always gift the content via iTunes to your friend, purchase and give them CD's, or let them buy their own copies.

Music Rescue also works as far as restoring your playlists etc. I've used it twice, you can use the Quick Recover mode, but have to click continue trial (something like that) allot, cp. to purchase option. Otherwise diesel is right as far as restoring via  your purchase history.

Have you selected manually manage music?

  • How can I transfer music from my iPod to a new laptop?

I recently got a new laptop because my old laptop, in which all of my music is in, is about to break down. So just about a few days ago my laptop just died, i cannot turn it on, and all of my music is in there. How can i transfer all of my music onto my new laptop using my ipod, and how will I be able to keep downloading music on my new laptop. Thanks!

You still got your music in your iPod? There is a way to transfer it to your new laptop.
You can simply transfer music from iPod to computer with a handy tool called iOS Transfer.
iOS Transfer is a program specifically designed to deal with problem of transformation between iPod and Computer.

  • How can you transfer data from an ipod touch to the itunes library without having all your data deleted?

I have a laptop and the hard drive had to be replaced because it WILL NOT work (This broken hard drive will be refered to as "HD1" from now on). So I had no choice but to have HD1 replaced with a better hard drive (the new one will be refered to as "HD2" from now on). I had HD1 for about 5 years, but what is stuck on HD1 is my itunes library will all of my music, like I said before HD1 will not work so I cannot retrieve any of my itunes data, or any data to be exact. But also, my data that was synced in HD1's itunes library is also on my ipod touch, which is still functional for the time being. HD2 has been installed and working perfectly and I installed itunes on it as well. If I synced my ipod touch to HD2's itunes library, all of my music on the ipod touch will get deleted. What I'm trying to do is have all of my music on my ipod touch transfered to HD2's itunes library without having anything deleted.
    Key things to remember:
-"HD1" is my broken hard drive
-"HD2" is my new and awesome hard drive
-I can't access HD1 at all because it doesn't work
-I have an ipod touch with all of HD1's music on it
-HD2 has an empty itunes library on it
-I need a way to transfer all the data on my ipod touch to HD2's itunes library without having anything deleted
Is there someone, anyone who can help me out with this?

I think so when you sign in your itunes library with your apple id which you were using on HD1 the data will be transfered or simply use icloud.

  • Please help - how do I import music from my ipod into a new itunes library?

    Hello
I would very much appreciate it if someone could tell me how to get the music from my old ipod mini into the new itunes library on my new laptop.
The mini was previously sync'd with my old PC which died so my files are only present on the ipod. Upon loading itunes, the software is only letting my sync the ipod providing I wipe it (obviously not desirable...)
    Thanks for any support, Andy

Connect your iPod to your computer. When you get the message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" as you already know will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button: Managing content manually on iPod
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod to a computer
The transfer of content from other sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes
    TuneJack Windows Only
    iPod2PC Windows Only
    iGadget Windows Only
    iDump Windows Only
    SharePod Windows Only
    iRepo Mac and Windows
    iPodRip Mac & Windows
    YamiPod Mac and Windows
    Music Rescue Mac & Windows
    iPodCopy Mac and Windows
There is also a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows or a Mac. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available at this link: Two-way Street: Moving Music Off the iPod
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

  • Putting my Music from my iPod to a new iTunes Library

Okay so basically I just got my computer redone and the guy that did it delete my 1000 song library... so now all the songs I got on my iPod are what is left of that Library... I do remeber reading that you can take those files and put them on your computer only question is how do I do it.... either that or was that just completely wrong and I have to download 1000 songs again... I have the 5th generation iPod that basically when they first started coming out I got one..... so I just hope I can put my library off of my iPod onto this fresh iTunes that I just downloaded...... Please help....

For iTunes version 7 or later, then you can transfer purchased iTunes store music from the iPod to an authorized computer by using the "file/transfer purchases from iPod" menu. Note that the maximum of 5 authorized computers applies here.
Find out how to do that here.
How to copy iTunes purchases from an iPod or iPhone to a computer.
For all other non purchased content (your own CDs etc) try this method which works on some Windows PCs.
Enable your iPod for disk use.
    See: iPod Disk Use.
Open iTunes and select edit/preferences/advanced/general. Put a check mark in the box marked "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" and also "keep iTunes music folder organized", then click 'ok'.
Connect the iPod whilst holding down the shift/ctrl keys to prevent any auto sync, and if you see the dialogue window asking if you want to sync to this itunes library, click 'no'.
Then go to file/add folder, open 'my computer', select your iPod and click 'ok'.
The music files should transfer to your iTunes.
If this doesn't work (and it may not because officially it's not supposed to), check out the instructions/suggestions here.
Music from iPod to computer (using option 2). This a manual method using "hidden folders" and although it works, it is a little more involved than other methods.
Much easier ways are to use one of the many 3rd party programs that copy music from the iPod to the computer.
One of the most recommended is Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Other free programs are Pod Player, SharePod and Floola.
If you want to recover just the structure of playlists from the iPod (and not the actual song files themselves), there's iRepo for Windows. which I understand has this feature along with all the standard features for these programs.
iPodRip also has the feature enabling you to reconstruct playlists.
There is also CopyTrans. This does preserve ratings/playcounts etc if those are important to you but this program is not free. It also supports video transfer.

  • How can we transfer music from two iPods onto one new one

My partner an I have two iPod classics and an iPod touch, can we transfer and edit the content in store when the new nano arrives as we have no access to a PC?

iPods (that are not iPod touch) need to sync with a computer (Mac or Windows PC) running iTunes.  There is no way to transfer content directly between iPods, or using an iOS device (like your iPod touch).

You really need to get an external drive and put together a backup plan.
