HT1296 how to enable disk usage

how to enable disk usage

This has never been a feature of any iphone/ipod touch/ipad.
It is not a storage device, it simply mirrors the selected content of your computer.

    As Jolly said, you can't.
But free apps like Discover give you similar functionality.

  • How to find disk usage by application

Using the Activity Monitor, I can see that something is making an excessive number of disk IO's and generally slowing the system down.
Is there some way I can see the disk IO on a per-process bases (the same as I can see the CPU usage for each process)?
    Thanks
    Susan

That does not seem to be it - the process that shows up by far the most messages being sent and received is 'kernel task'.
I think I have tracked down the problem that I was seeking this information to solve (does that make sense?). I have been doing quite a bit of software development, some of it involving installing quite large packages. As these were being installed Spotlight was going crazy trying to index them all and causing the system to slow down because of all the directory lookups etc, it was doing.
At least that is my theory and stopping Spotlight's indexing (I have never used Spotlight anyway - it never seems to find what I'm after) I have not seem the performance hit I was seeing before.
On the other hand, I would still like to know how to monitor disk IOs on a per-process basis for the future.
    Thanks

  • How to increase Disk usage reported in Resource Monitor

    Hi,
I wonder how I can increase Disk usage reported in the Resource Monitor. When I use the 7200 Hard drive or SSD, the max usage is 1Gb/sec.
    Thank you for your help.

    Hi,
As I understand, you want to increase the size of the root partition (where you installed Solaris) which resides in c1t0d0s0. I think it can be done using Concatenations from Solaris Volume Manager (SVM).
I have tried it in non root partition like /export/home and it is very easy.
    metainit -f d0 2 1 c1t0d0s7 1 c2t0d0s7 //this will create volume d0 as a concatenation
    growfs -M /export/home /dev/md/rdsk/d0 //this will grow the /export/home partition

  • How to enable disk use without losing music?

I am trying to enable disk use on my iPod, but I already have it set to manually managing music and videos. I want to upload music to my iTunes account because it was downloaded to my iPod from a different computer than I have now, and I don't want to lose it. How do I do this? (My iPod is an iPod touch 4th Generation)

Sorry but iPod Touches never had a disk mode.  There are app like USB Disk that allow loading files on the iPod Touch.

  • How to enable disk utility verify/fix permissions

My iMac is running os x 10.6.8 snow leopard.
A month ago the system(software) was re-installed by apple store for a fixing of booting panic.
It's all fine know but I found the disk utility's verify/fix permissions functions were disabled. My question is: what'll cause this and how to enable them?
    Thanks

You mean verify/repair disk, not permissions.  Forget about repair permissions.  It's a waste of time.
As for verify/repair, you cannot repair the volume you are booted from so you need to boot from some other bootable volume.  That could be Disk Utility launched on your Installer dvd or a external bootable backup.

  • How to enable disk use on an iPod in "recovery mode"?

I am trying to enable disk use on my iPod classic 80GB to recover lost files. One day out of the blue, 12 days worth of music vanished from my iPod, and as my laptop that stored all of my music was stolen a few months earlier, I need to manually recover the files by first enabling disk use (at least according to the various tutorials I have read online).  There should be a box you can check or uncheck in the summary of the iPod when it's plugged in, but on my iTunes, all it shows in the summary is "iPod recovery mode" and underneath a "Restore iPod button".  Is the "enable disk use" option not available because it is in recovery mode or am I just missing something?

    AFAIK this is the case...

  • How To Access Disk Usage Graphic

A little while ago I stumbled upon a multi-colored, horizontal, single line graphic  divided into sections, which showed disk usage, each section and color representing a different type of data. This was not the Activity Monitor, which has a pie chart for usage, but does not identify the type of data using the disk space. Neither does this appear in neither Disk Utility nor System Profiler. A day or so ago, in a thread in the Lion community, I saw a screen shot of this graph. This lead me to look for this graphic again, but I have been unable to find a way to access it.
Can anyone lad me to it, please? Thanks.

Not exactly sure which utility you are refrring to by that description (a picture would have helped).  So below is a sampling of possible utilities. These links are all macupdate.com links so there are related utilities listed on the pages.  If none of the ones I list are exactly what you are after perhaps one of the related utilities is.

  • How to enable disk quotas in Lion Server (OS X 10.7.5)?

Hello, all.  I am having an impossible time trying to set disk quotas in Lion Sever (OS X 10.7.5) and have searched these (and many other) forums to no avail.  Basically, as my network will have mixed PC and Mac users I have set the primary home share folder to SMB.  I understand that quotas should be enabled without a hitch under AFP, but this will not suffice for PC clients.  I have set quotas in WGM but when I check from a remote connection it shows folder capactiy as the volume's total capacity where the home folder resides.
As the latest version of Server Admin does not have a file share section, how can I do this?  I understand it may be possible from the terminal, but having little experience with terminal I would prefer not set it myself (man quotaon was less than helpful).
Thank you in advance for any help.

Not 100% sure, but i think "password change" feature requires Open Directory and SSL encryption for Web.
    Has you enabled OD?
Did you try at least a self-signed SSL certificate for Web?

  • WRT600N - how to enable disk use?

I have the WRT600N but no matter what USB disk (a 20GB removable drive and an assortment of flash keys) I plug-in , it's not being recognized by the router on the storage tab of the router admin pages. I don't have a home network but I have 2 machines and a printer connected through the router. (no software firewalls at all) 1) 3Ghz Core2duo w/XP-SP3 wired through one of the gigabit ports 2) Dell Inspiron 1720 w/Vista Home Premium 32bit-SP1 connected wirelessly on the 2.4 GHZ band (g) 3) HP 6980dt printer setup wirelessly on an internal IP (both machines can connect to it). Everything is using WPA2 Do I need to setup a network to get it to work? (i.e. install file & printer sharing or client for microsoft networks) Are there any services that absolutely need to be running? I've tweaked a few of them (disabling tcp/ip netbios helper being one of them) - uPNP is enabled. Thanks in advance.

Honestly, I wouldn't waste my time. The Storage Link on the WRT600N does not work properly. It corrupts files, has file size limitations, and is incompatible with some backup programs. It has also been known to have issues maintaining connectivity. I gave up after a week of trying...obviously, YMMV.

  • How to enable disk utility

    dear members
i dont know how i have done this but i seem to have disabled or uninstalled my disk utility on my ibook g4. i was having problems printing at first so i sent my printer to the trash can. on my applications then utilities folder there used to be a few icons, now there is only stuff on my airport and something about java. there is nothing about disk utilitiies. when i click on the apple logo for the info about this mac the box saying "more info" is greyed out and when i hover over it it says "system profiler application button is disabled". has anyone any advice as to what i should do? if it is a case of re-installing the whole thing again from scratch will i lose all my documents and settings?

thanks for the advice. i did go into the nearest apple store and they advised me to do the same thing. trouble is, when i put in disc 1 i get the option of installing bundled software or the whole osx and software. which one should i choose - nowhere does it mention archive and restore. i am a bit timid to start trying things in case they dont work so i would appreciate a bit more detail.
you might well be a life-saver!

  • Is it possible to enable disk usage on the Ipod touch 4th Gen

I was wanting to use my ipod as a storage device as well as an ipod.

Ain't gonna happen.  The only thing you can do is copy/move pictures from your iPod to your computer.  You cannot add anything directly.  To add pictures you have to either take them with the device, or you have to choose "Synch Photos," and then choose the source folder on your computer.

  • Itunes wont disable disk usage

Ok so heres the deal: I just upgraded to a new desktop that runs under windows vista and thought that moving my old library to this new computer would be a snap. I checked out this site for directions on using my 30g classic as a hard drive to make the move. I followed the directions step by step and everything went smoothly up until the "Switch the iPod back to automatic update". I unchecked the Enable disk use tab, hit Apply, synced all my tunes back onto my iPod, but for some reason all the data from my old library is still on it. And it wont let me eject my iPod because it says it contains files that are in use by another application. How can get all that info off my ipod safely?
edit: in a nutshell, I should only have 10.57 gigs of music on my iPod, but it still shows that i have 10.57 gigs of music and 12.40 gigs of "other"
Also, where did all my play lists, ratings, and playcounts go? Can I get them back somehow?

Disabling the "Enable disk usage" should prevent the iPod shuffle from being mounted as a volume on the Mac desktop. In fact, this is exactly what happens in other iPods that allows disk usage.
That's right, but the iPod shuffle is a much simpler design than the bigger iPods, and apparently does not support this. In my experience, the iPod shuffle is generally mounted as a volume whenever it is connected. It also seems that iTunes requires the iPod shuffle to be mounted in order to synchronize it. iTunes will automatically unmount it after synchronization if disk use is disabled, but temporarily mount it again each time it needs to resynchronize it later.
And now it's working. The iPod shuffle NO LONGER mounts on the desktop. Exactly the way it should be with my settings.
I'm afraid that you may be mistaken. Please try the following:
    - Quit iTunes.
    - Open a Finder window (with the sidebar showing the volumes).
    - Now connect your iPod shuffle and wait about 10 seconds.
    - The iPod volume should appear in the side bar (and on the desktop).
    - The iPod shuffle's LED will be blinking yellow because it is mounted.
    - Now start iTunes, which will synchronize the iPod.
    - Afterwards the iPod volume will disappear.
    - At this time the iPod shuffle's LED will turn to steady yellow or green.
    - Arrange windows so that you see both iTunes and the Finder window.
    - Select the iPod shuffle in iTunes under Devices.
    - Change anything, e.g. drag one song to a different position.
    - This will cause iTunes to synchronize the iPod shuffle again.
    - While this happens the iPod volume will temporarily reappear.
