HT1296 how to sync to a different drive?

I have a PC with less space then my iPad.  How do I have it backup and sync to my external hard drive which has more space?  Trying to update my ipad to 5.1 but keeps saying I don't have enough space on by PC to backup up my iPad.  I have plenty of space on my external hard drive.

Itunes is up and functional, I have synced the Ipad and all would be great except for space. I could increase the volume of drive C is drive D were empty. I do not know how to set up the external drive and move stuff off C drive that is not part of the OS or Itunes, Safari and Bonjour etc. Like I said...brain is fried and I was hoping I could  do the backup to either drives but it does not give me that option.

  • HT1296 How to sync Notes from iPad with Notes from Outlook 2011 using iCloud

Have been using iCloud successfully on my iPad and iPhone for photos, documents.  But want to sync the Notes app items from the iPad to my iMac.  Am assuming it would go to Outlook 2011 - but not clear how the sync works.  Or does there have to be a separate App on the iMac for Notes?

I'm unfamilar with Outlook 365 but you can investigate the iCloud program. See if it'll work over wifi to sync your notes.
You might also be able to save your notes or export them out of outlook, e-mail them to yourself and then import them from there.

  • How to sync ipod when hard drive and external drive used for music?

The Ipod can hold all of my music. My laptop has some current music, the external drive has old music albums. How do I set up the music library / itunes library to sync with the ipod and not erase the music from the external drive when it is not connected.
I am used to adding mp3s to player, and they stay there until deleted. Now I sync the Ipod, and if I don't keep the external drive attached, the Ipod loses the old music.
I have searched all discussion lines and do not quite understand the how to of multiple libraries versus other options.
    Thanks.

Easiest way is to make sure your exHD is plugged in before opening iTunes and syncing your iPod.

  • Hard drive crashed...  How to sync Iphone with New Drive?

My hard drive crashed on my Macbook, I installed a new drive... How to I sync my Iphone without loosing applications, photos, pix, movies and contacts?

You should have a back-up of important info/music/pix/etc on an external source fro this very reason.
The iphone is not a storage device.
Assuming you don't back-up your info:
I think you can re-download Apps from the same itunes account.
Itunes purchased music can be transferred with iphone attached - in itunes click File>Transfer Purchases.
Pix can be e-mailed to yourself one at a time. The photos are optimized for viewing on iphone and will be of much lower quality than the original.
If you enter at least one contact and calendar entry in your computer, before syncing, you will get the option to merge.
The pic and music sync is one-way, computer to iphone.
Unless you can find a 3rd party app that you can trust, the rest is lost.
This would be a good time to begin backing up your important info.

  • How to sync both from hard drive folders and from Aperture?

I have the following problem. So far I was syncing photos directly from my hard drive folders and everything was fine. Recently I decided to add some photos from Aperture albums. When I did this all previous photos synced from HD were deleted. When I switched back to syncing from folders, the photos from Aperture were deleted. It looks that it is impossible to sync from both sources. Anyone had this problem and found the solution?

I couldn't figure this out on my device, so I just consolidated them into one sync folder by copying photos.
Good thing I have extra disc space.....

  • How can I use a different driver for audio input and output?

I did a search of course, and came up with something about an aggregate. I have no idea what this is, how to do it, or if it would even work for me.
What I am trying to do is:
    1) Record into Logic Express using my Tascam US-122.
    2) Have playback come out of my computer sound system, not the Tascam.
If I go over to the Audio setup window, I can only record when the driver is set to Tascam US-122. Likewise, I can only listen to sound when my Built-In Audio is selected. It gets rather annoying going between the two.
So, would this aggregate thing solve my problem? If so, how do I do it? Thanks for any help!
    -allen

Yes it should do what you want.
Go to "Audio Midi Setup", and go to the Audio menu and click "Open Aggregate Device Editor". The interface is pretty simple but if you do get stuck, just use the help function in Audio Midi Setup, as it has a step by step guide.
Then when you return to logic, go to the Preferences>Audio>Drivers section and select Aggregate Device as the new driver rather than either the built in sound or the tascam. Then the inputs and outputs will apply to BOTH devices.

  • How do I select a different drive for my emails

I am trying to set up my mailbox on a different location/drive other than on the installation drive. This gives me access to the email should my system crash and makes backing up easier. I've been using windows mail but that is getting buggy now. So I decided to drive with a Thunderbird but I did not find an option (which was under maintenance in windows mail) for setting up a different location for holding the mail. Is this possible?

  • How to sync files between flash drive .

I have a 4 gig flash drive and create files at school and on my iMac. I start the year off will all of my classes having separate folders with additonal folders to orginize such as a project name or homework and copy that folder "school work" to my flash drive so i have the same thing. But as the year goes on and I have more homework it is confusing to know which device the file is on (computer or flash) I do not want to use drop box or google docs or any other online service. The school does not allow that and I don' want it. Just the flash drive. On the pc I coded in visuel basic (08) a program that on the desktop when clicked on when launched there was 2 buttons. Copy flash drive contents to computer ( folder school work) and it added new content ( merge) rather than replacing whole folder with the whole flash drive. And vice versa with computer to flash drive. It worked but not efficiently. I know the Mac can do better. Can someone please tell me what to do? I would like it when the flash drive. (NOT JUST ANY FLASHDRIVE BUT THAT FLASDRIVE) is plugged in to sync and merge the data so they are iddentical. Using Automator or AppleScript. Please help any advice would be very much appreciated. Also. I have Last years data for school and some other files on there and want to start it fresh with nothing on it so i can create the folder school work.should i just delete all the files manually ( I have no problem doing that) or use disk utility? What is the advantage of disk utility and will It harm the flash drive in any way ( such as making it Mac os extend instead of fat32? I need it fat 32 for all the PCs at school. Thank you in advance

Here's a pretty thorough rundown on the options available: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Revision_control
A very simple solution is to get a Dropbox account. Then you can keep the file(s) in your dropbox and have them available in class or at home. Remember to make a backup on a regular basis.

  • LaserJet 100 color MFP M175nw - how do I install a different driver on the server to which I RDP?

I have installed my LaserJet 100 color MFP M175nw on my (32-bit) Windows XP Pro SP3 PC via USB and it works fine.  When I make it the default printer (I also have another HP printer installed locally) and use Windows Remote Desktop (RDP) to my server - which is (64-bit) Windows Enterprise without Hyper-V SP2 (2008 R2) it prints but some fonts show gobbledygook. The printer driver on the server is defaulting to "terminal services easy print".  I have administrator privileges on the server and have, in the past, been able to download the appropriate driver to the server so that printing in the RDP session works.  But now I only seem to be able to find installation software to download (not the actual drivers).  So, when attempting to install the software (rather than copy it) on the server the installation waits for the local (USB) connection and won't proceed.
What is the best practices way to have the locally installed (fully functional) machine be able to print from an RDP session?  I'm sure I shouldn't have to drag each new local printer to the server and install it locally with a USB cable.

    Hi there IT _Mgr
Quick suggestion; This is a commercial product. I will suggest seraching for posible solutions and posting in the forum for HP Business Support for yet a better chance at finding a prompt solution.

  • [HOW TO] Sync contacts across different devices.

Well recently ran into a problem, i had to get a new phone due iphone giving up the ghost, so switched to a Android device, now i wanted to transfer all my contacts over from my iphone to my android.
I followed countless instructions, but always faced the same hurdles, itunes failed to sync my contacts to google via itunes, it just kept getting stuck in the enter pass word loop, which no one seems to be able to fix.
I then tried adding an exchange account, but this also failed, it failed at the login, then even when i finally got it to login, it failed to sync with no user input to tell it to sync it was looking bleak.
With frustration i tried adding a CardDAV account, this too kept failing on the varification process.
At this point it seemed that OS was doing all it could to stop me syncing my contacts to move them to a new device.
So i thought id search the App store for something that would do the job for me.
    And now im here.
First off if you have faced the same issues as me, then please save your self a head ache and just do this.
On your iphone > app store > search for NQ contacts sync.
    Download and install it.
On your Adroid device > Play store > search NQ contacts sync.
    Download and install it.
On your iphone, open NQ contacts that has now installed on your iphone, create new account, put in your email, and chose a password (not the same one you use for your email account) once created, drag your finger from the bottom of the screen (still in HQ) from the icon that shows your contacts, to the cloud on the top of the screen. this will transfer your contacts to NQ servers.
On your Android device, sign in with the NQ account you just made. it will automatically sync your contacts to your android device.
    Job done.
link for NQ contacts sync on appstore.
    https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/nq-contacts-sync/id450088684?mt=8
Link for NQ contact sync on playstore.
    https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.netqin.contactbackup&feature=n av_result#?t=W10.
Why it takes a third party app to actually do a hassle free contacts transfer is beyond me, between google and apple i was about to throw both phones out of the window and go back to using a note pad and a house phone, they have made it so complicated that it causes more hassle than its worth.
And no i have nothing to do with NQ, i just found it so frigging easy to do something two major companys couldnt get wright in the first place i thought id share to help others out.

Sorry for double post, doesnt seem to be an edit option, this also works both ways.

  • How to sync iCal on different iphones

Ok, What I would like to do is place an event in my Macbook Pro iCal. Then have that schedule event go to my iphone and to my sons iphone as well. Now the issue is that my son's iPhone is not on my Apple ID account, iCloud or MobileMe account. And if my son puts an event in his iPhone then I would like to see that event on my iphone and as well as my Macbook Pro too. Any suggestions?
    Thanks a Million,
    Carlos

    Greetings Carlos,
As long as you both have your own iCloud account on your own iPhone / Macbook Pro then you have your solution in hand.
You should each share one (or more) of your calendars with each other:  http://support.apple.com/kb/PH2690
So you Carlos would share your calendar "A" to your son, and your son would share his calendar "B" with you.  That way you can both see each other's calendars.
    Hope that helps.

  • CS5 install on case-sensitive file system - can't choose different drive (Mac OS)

I just upgraded my macbook pro to a new drive and 10.6, and chose 'case sensitive' HFSX, 'cause I'm a heavy command line user and wanted the maximum BASH experience.
I'm trying to install the CS5 demo to try some web design tools, and the installer immediately says "Installation to case-sensitive drives is not supported. Please choose a different drive location to install." So case-sensitive drives aren't supported; crappy but fair enough.
The error message leads me to think that I can just choose a non-case-sensitive drive to install to, but I never get a chance to pick one - I click on the installer and it goes straight to the error message.
So - how do I pick a different drive to install to? Am I just an idoit, is there no way to select a different drive, or will it not install on a system that even BOOTS from a c.s. drive, regardless of the format of the drive that CS5 is installed to?
I called the support number, and the poor fellow on the other end suggested I re-download the demo, and if the new download fails call Apple support to report my 'drive error'.
I'm hoping to avoid an entire backup-reformat-restore and lose CLI compatibility just to try some demo software.
    ch

That is part of why I would prefer case sensitive by default.   I know some server packages do the folding for you, same as some web servers do not differentiate between 'htm' and 'html' when people type in requests, but most of the time the backend server is going to be case sensitive and it is not safe to assume (or hope) that the service will fix things.  Compensating for mistakes is fine, but allowing such silent corruption is not a terribly laudable things and it encourage people be careless.
Every once in a while I do encounter someone submitting some work where their configuration values and file names do not match, and 'well my laptop silently fixes it for me since it does not care' is a poor excuse.  And if I sent broken filenames upstream or even worse commit them to be used on a server, that is a pretty significant professional failure.
Back to Adobe specifically, I have been trying the suggestion on poster mentioned in where one installs the Adobe applications to a case insensitive drive then copy over the installed files.  This does not quite work out of the box, but for reasons I would be hard pressed to believe are Apple's fault.
For instance the first error I encounter is the inability of Bridge to load:
    "@executable_path/../Frameworks/WRServices.framework/Versions/A/WRServices"
When I go look inside the app directories I can see that in Bridge the file has been named 'awrservices', but in Illustrator it is correctly named AWRServices.   So it looks more like a problem in whatever version control they are using.  The only way I can picture (which my adminitialy limited knowledge of what I am sure is a large and complex project with all sorts of legacy issues) that the installer toolchain factors in as a problem is if they have mismatches in their own scripts/packaging and have been depending on HFS's bad behavior to hide the problem.  I can understand not wanting to invest the time to pay down the technical debt on such an issue, but having such errors in your configuration causes long term headaches.
And I say this as someone who worked on just such a project, moving a software suite that had legacy code stretching back longer than Adobe has existed as a company.  This conversion included moving from a case insenstive filesystem to a case sensitive one and yeah, there were lots of problems that the old FAT32 system hid from us, but it really paid off over the long run to fix them rather than try to twist the code to compensate.
Having said that, if the problem is really that they do not want to go update their filenames (in version control or config files), then you can always add folding to your loaders.  I have had to do that a few times due to upstream people developing on case insensitive systems and sending data files with incorrect file names.  This is an old class of problem, and while I can empathize with the struggles project managers have trying to get approval for paying down technical debt, the problem never gets better on its own and usually gets worse.
Which is why I responded with so much grump to the 'I never needed it' argument since that is exactly the type of customer comment that marketing tends to point to in order to push such things off the schedule.  This is the type of thing where the customer does not really know what they want because they are already accustomed to broken behavior and most of the problems are hidden from their immediate view.  It is easy to cover up the limitations since modern UI (and their search capabilities) can handle this.
It is not just arcane developers stuff, and it is the same transition that people have made with things like spaces, quotes, and parentheses, where years ago users believed they had no need for them since they were not using them, but they were only not using them because they did not work.   Today try to tell a modern user they can not put (, ", ) or even ' ' in their filenames and they would rightly question why this piece of obvious functionality is not working since today they are used to it working and no longer automatically compensate for it.
I also find it ironic that by default OSX hides a number of file extensions, so from the user's perspective you can have multiple files with the exact same name displayed to them, so you can get display issues where 'foo' is the same as 'foO' if both have .txt, but 'foo' and 'foO' are not the same if one has .txt while the other is .pdf.  Add to this confusion cases like 'foo.txt' and 'foo.pdf" both being shortened to 'foo'.

  • How to sync same iPhone using 2 different iTune libraries...

I have been trying to figure out how to sync my iPhone 4S to 2 different libraries.
The reason is that I have one library whichhas all my Apps, Books etc. that I keep on one external drive and the other just music as I take that other external drive to dj. As I get new music every day, I sync this to my iPhone so I can get to hear it when I am out.
I tried to open up one library to sync my Apps and books, then switch libraries by reopening iTunes just to sync music.
However it won't allow me as everytime I switch, say I synced the music first, upon opening up the Apps and Books library, it deletes my music (even when I don't have music synced - I am guessing it reads as wiping my music)
Is there a workaround to this?
    I am using Lion.
    Thanks

    Thanks Carolyn for your advice.
Was a bit sad to read that I cannot do that, but I still tested it out. To my surprise, I have managed to find out by testing and testing that (thankfully) iTunes does let me sync with one device with 2 libraries.
As long as the music and books are synced on one library, and apps on the 2nd Library I was able to split the libraries up to two different external drives with their respective iTunes library folders.
It would have been perfect if I could just split the Music by itself as I didn't want the books on the same drive but I am happy nevertheless.
The only bad thing is that the syncing was tested on my iPhone and not my iPad which I don't need music... so I had to add dubplicate books in the library for the iPad with just Apps for my iPhone. Now I have to test whether it will sync my bookmarks between devices for the same books.
