HT1296 I bought a new computer and I want to sync my iPod Touch with the new computer without losing data.
I bought a new computer and want to use the new computer to sync data with my iPod touch. I understand that you can only sync a device with one computer at a time. This if fine because I don't care to sync my iPod with the old computer anymore. How do I set up my new computer to be the computer that syncs with my iPod touch from now on, without losing any data?
You don't.
When you sync to a different computer it erases the content from the ipod and replaces it with the data from the new computer.
Just copy everything from your old computer, or your backup copy of your old computer, to your new one, then sync

I bought a new HP laptop and I need to register my ipod touch so that it recognizes when I plug it in to the laptop. how do I do this
I somehow suspect this is not what you mean:
iTunes Store: About authorization and deauthorization - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1420 - and another helpful post: https://discussions.apple.com/message/17828050
This is more likely what you mean:
Some of the information below has subsequently appeared in a document by turingtest2: Recovering your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device - https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3991
Your i-device was not designed for unique storage of your media. It is not a backup device and media transfer was designed for you maintaining a master copy of your media on a computer which is itself properly backed up against loss. Syncing is one way, computer to device, updating the device content to the content on the computer, not updating or restoring content on a computer. The exception is iTunes Store purchased content.
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848 - only media purchased from iTunes Store
For transferring other items from an i-device to a computer you will have to use third party commercial software.
Basically what the above is saying is you should transfer your itunes library from your other computer, not try to do it from the iPoad. -
I want to sync my ipod touch with my new computer. But i don't want to lose any data from my apps. If i erase and sync does it only erase music and videos or does it include apps as well? Copy everything from your old computer to your new one.

I have recently updated my computer since my old one broke and therefore had to download a new iTunes. When I came to add my iPod to this new iTunes, I was given no option to transfer the contents of my iPod library to this new iTunes and was forced to try 'sync'; when my old computer was repaired once we lost all of our data so I had to download a new iTunes then, all of my iPod downloads were transferred and I could easily reburn my CDs so I didn't think the wiping of my iPod would be a problem. When I clicked 'sync' it warned me that it would replace the contents of my iPod with the new iTunes library, as I said I didn't think this would be a problembut then it asked if it should transfer my recent iTunes downloads so I said 'yes'. The sync was completed but now I only have 4 downloaded songs and 5 albums which I burned to my new iTunes! I have lost all the music I bought, all the videos I bought and all the audiobooks I bought! (Luckily I still have my apps.) I tried to restore backup but realised that only covers calendars, contacts E.T.C and I checked my iTunes account and that shows all my downloads but I can't see a way to restore them or anything like that!
Please help! I am in despair as you can imagine how much moneys worth I have lost and am losing faith in AppleCorrect. When you update via iTunes all synced media that is not in your iTunes library will be lost.
As IO said before:
You can redownload most iTunes pruchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
I do not think it included audio books. -
My laptop got stolen and I want to sync my current ipad with the new Macbook
Hi all,
Unfortunately, my previous macbook was stolen, and now I just bought the new one, and I would like to sync my iPad with this new laptop. However, when I plug the iPad, there was a message from iTunes saying that my iPad is not sync with this computer and asked if I want to "erase and sync" with this new computer. Actually, I re-download all the necessary applications to iTunes on the new Macbook already, but still am not sure whether this "erase and sync" will keep the data of my iPad. There are some data such as money transactions, passwords, and game saves, etc. which I do not want to lose and don't really have backups. Would "erase and sync" remove all data of current installed applications on the iPad? Is there a way to synchronize my iPad with this new Macbook without losing data?
Thanks,
KannI have already authorized this computer with my Apple ID. I think this only allows me to re-download all purchased applications to the iTunes library again without re-purchasing them. However, iTunes still keeps asking me if I want to "erase and sync" or not.

I want to sync my iPod Touch to my new computer. I've added a lot of music to my computer iTunes and don't know if I will lose the music on my computer or my iPod when I sync. What do I do to keep all from both devices?

Can't get my Music off of my iPhone 4...
My computer died & had to get a new one, so now I cannot sync my iPhone 4 with the new computer, without losing all of my Music, because the only Music I have is on the iPhone 4 only, not on the computer. No Backup anywhere : (
If I choose to sync it tells me all of the Content that does not match the iTunes library on the computer will be erased, do you want to proceed & I have to say no.
How do I replace the music library on my Computer with the Music on the iPhone?
I got my pictures off because you can access them when you connect the iPhone using Windows 7 but you cannot see any of the music so you cannot access it when using windows so don't know what to do...
Help...The music sync is one way - computer to iphone. The only exception is itunes purchases. File>Transfer Purchases
It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer for just such an occasion. Use your backup copy to move everything to your new computer. -
I can't sync my iPod Touch with my new Macbook.
I'm having trouble syncing my iPod touch with my new Macbook Air and I don't know what to do. I've managed to get all my music and films etc. off my old iTunes library but when I plug my iPod into the computer, it doesn't come up with the typical 'erase/replace or transfer' message that you get when you plug it into other computers. Someone please help because it is driving me insane. The iPod was originally synced with a Windows computer and I think this might be what is causing my problem but I really need help fixing it. Thanks!

Copy the entire /Music/iTunes/ folder from old computer to new computer.

What does happen? -
I repeatedly receive an error message when trying to sync my ipod touch with my itunes library with my new computer which reads, "Some of the items in the itunes library were not copied to the ipod because you are not authorized on this computer." However when I try and authorize my computer I always receive the message that this computer is authorized. What am I doing wrong? I'm missing about 100 songs as a result of this error!!

I have an ipod touch which I have USB synced in the past on my Windows Vista laptop.
Now I want to stop USB Syncing with the laptop and USB start syncing instead with my Windows 7 Desktop machine instead.
Both PCs have the latest version of itunes running and I have transferred all purchases from the ipod to the Windows 7 desktop machine.
Home sharing is turned on on both PCs, so now their libraries appear identical.
The ipod has the latest IOS installed, and I have set up automatic icloud back ups for the ipod.
If i USB sync the ipod with the windows 7 desktop PC it warns me that all data will be erased, and replaced with data from that computer. I know that this will mean that all game progress is lost since it is not included in a USB sync backup and virgin copies of all the apps will be loaded onto the ipod.
My Question is this;
What is the best way to keep the app data intact on the ipod?
Do I simply carry out a USB sync with the Windows 7 desktop PC, let it wipe all the game save info away, and then resore an icloud backup onto the ipod?
Will this result in me being able to sync with the Windows 7 desktop PC and keep my game save data intact?
ThanksTwo ways.
- You can sync with the new computer by following these instructions
Sync Your iOS Device with a New Computer Without Losing Data - How-To Geek
All the apps have to be in the iTunes library so the app data will have a place to go.
- Or just restore from iCloud backup. That will also pull down the apps from iCloud. Your apps data will also be restored. -
Why can't I sync my iPod touch with a new computer without deleting everything?
I recently got a new laptop, but now when I try to sync my iPod touch, it says "The iPod "Jessica's iPod" could not be synced because this computer is no longer authorized for purchased items that are on this iPod". I have authorized my computer, and when I try to authorize it again it says "This computer is already authorized".
Maybe:

One you sort the Authorization out you have to do the following to lose the content on the iPod

My laptop was stolen and now when I try to sync my music it wants to wipe my ipod touch 5th generation. How do I get around this ?
There are quite a few third party apps that will copy media from the ipod to the computer. Try searching the cnet downloads site or other reputable sites.
Good luck! -
Hi there,
Well the title says it all really.
I have to sync my iphone 4 with my new laptop as the old one broke. How do I do this without losing all my pictures, music, contacts & things purchased form the itunes store?
It seems really silly that everything gets wiped off the phone when using a different laptop. This problem must happen quite often as I am sure I am not the only person who has had a pc that has broken.
I hope you someone can help. All the stuff on my phone is important to me.
Many thanksPlease search the forums. This has been covered here extensively.

- Move your iTunes media library to the new computer by:
iTunes: How to move your music to a new computer
- Copy any synced photos to the new computer too.
- Connect the the iPod to the new computer and make a backup by right clicking on the iPod under Devices in iTunes and select Back Up
- Restore the iPod from that backup
Note that the iPod backup that iTunes makes does not included synced media like apps and music.
