HT1296 i cannot sync iphone contacts to my macbook

How do I sync iphone contacts to my macbook? i have tried the obvious: connecting the phone, going into iTunes and selecting Info and Contacts and sync and apply, but nothing happens on my Mac. Thank you for any feedback.

Make sure you enter at least one unique contact (one that is not on your phone - make up an imaginary friend if necessary) in the Address Book on your Macbook before you sync, and choose the "merge" option when you sync. The contacts on your phone will sync to address book on your Macbook, and your imaginary friend will sync to your phone. You can delete him if you want.

My iphone 4 contacts are not syncing with my address book.  I have followed the instructios about checking the sync box on the info pane.  I am not syncing my contacts to icloud.  Last time i did that, it wiped out all my contacts.  Any suggestions?

Is your Address Book on your Mac empty? Try the following, add a new test contact on your iPhone. Next try to sync again. If nothing happens, make sure you have set up the Default Contact Sync account on your iPhone to point to Address Book.
To do so, go to Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars and under "Contacts" look at what you have set up as "Default"

  • Cannot sync iphone contacts

When switching contact sync to Yahoo or Google from iCloud, did not see any sync done.
When switching contact to a new Outlook account with no contact for testing, can see 88 email addresses sync into Outlook, all without any phone numbers. What went wrong??? How do I get the contacts in iphone out into Outlook, Yahoo or Google so that I can sync those contacts into other phones???

Switching the default account is only helpful for new contact, and does nothing to sync existing contact located in the iCloud group.
Anyway, I have found a solution by using iDrive: http://www.idrive.com/online-backup-download.htm
    Thanks for responsing.

  • Cannot sync iphone contacts to itunes to sync with address book

need to import iPhone contacts into new mac.trying to use iTunes, but it is not syncing. Tried mobile me, no luck. Help

    What is the problem?
Why not move everything from the old computer, or your backup copy of your old computer, to the new one?
If you sync your iphone to a blank computer, then the contacts will be erased.

  • 10.9.1 upgrade cannot sync iPhone contacts

Ever since I upgraded to 10.9.1 OSX my iPhone longer syncs contacts or calendar events to it.  I can't find out where on iTunes I need to enable this?  Haaaaalp!

The fact that I need to use iCloud to sync my contacts after upgrading to OS 10.9 REALLY makes me angry. My previous experiences with iCloud were disasterous. iCloud froze my Mac Pro, deleted contacts, added them in triplicate, etc. After 3 trips to the Genius bar to address these iCloud issues I permanently disconnected from iCloud and my Macs worked as intended.
After just talking with Apple's support, the support person told me to sync using iCloud. Guess what? I now have duplicate contact groups and triplicate addresses - same same issue for which I disconnect from iCloud before.
Apple! Please give us back the ability to sync our devices without the aggrevation of using iCloud! I DO NOT WANT TO USE ICLOUD BECAUSE IT CREATES MORE PROBLEMS THAN IT IS WORTH.

  • HT1296 trying to sync iPhone contacts to mac book pro

I am trying to sync my iphone 5s contacts to my mac book pro. I am told to go to itunes and click the sync contacts tab but my itunes window doesnt have a sync contacts tab

I understand that there should be a 'sync' button somewhere in iCloud/calendar.
Mine doesn't have any reference at all to sync..  so how did we do that again?
I have OS X 10.9.1 on my iMac
I have apparently no other way of syncing calendars across all devices... right?
If not right, how can this be done? (since iCloud doesn't seem to have a built-in sync option...)
Before Mavericks, we did have that option, as I recall...

  • This is ridiculous - cannot sync iphone 4 due to macbook osx 10.5.8

As of yet I have not been able to sync my phone with my computer because I cannot update itunes to 10.7 because my OS is 10.5.8. I assumed that this would be a quick fix; however, from doing some research it would seem not to be the case. I find it absolutely ludicrous that just because I have updated my phone to a new/worse operating system I am now expected to shell out extra money to update my computer. That is not going to happen. The most ridiculous part of this is that neither the itunes, iphone or macbook "updates" will make any difference whatsoever to me (or, I would guess, the vast majority of users).
I am shocked that Apple, a company that has always been extraordinary in my dealings with them, has instituted such a blatant attempt to make extra money. I am beginning to understand why some consumers dislike Apple.
If anyone has a way to get around this issue please inform me.
    Thanks!

  • Problem syncing iPhone contacts to new Macbook Pro

I have a new Macbook Pro - still getting it set up - and I just noticed that, of the several hundred contacts I have on my iPhone 5s, only 14 or so found their way to the contacts app on the Macbook Pro? Ideas about why? (I checked my phone settings and I do have contacts "on" in iCloud, so that shouldn't be the problem.) Unfortunately, this is a time when Apple Care is "experiencing an unusually high volume of calls" so I'm not getting through...

I was able to solve the problem: I dragged the folder named iPod Photo Cache to the Trash (following the instructions in: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1314 and the discussion in: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=11399437&#11399437)
    Thank you very much, Ingo2711!

  • Cannot sync iphone 4 contacts to macbook address book

    HI,
I'm using iphone 4 and I would like to sync all the contacts in my iphone to my macbook address book. The macbook address book is empty and is running on OS X Lion. iTunes is version 10. I tried syncing once and all my contact in my phone is wiped out as the contacts in the address book is empty. Lucky me there is a backup a few months back. How do i copy my iphone contacts to my macbook?

If you put at least one contact, even a fake one, into your Mac's Address Book first, then when you sync you'll be given the prompt whether or not to merge the contacts.

  • Cannot sync iphone. an unkown error has occured (-50)

I cannot sync my iphone 4.  I keep getting this error:  cannot sync iphone. an unkown error has occured (-50)
Tried a hard restart on the phone and repair/reinstall of itunes.  I can backup the iphone, does anyone know how to solve this problem?

    Error 13, 14, 35 and 50 (or -50)
These errors are typically resolved by performing one or more of the steps listed below:
Perform USB isolation troubleshooting, including trying a different USB port directly on the computer. See the advanced steps below for USB troubleshooting.
Put a USB 2.0 hub between the device and the computer.
    Try a different USB 30-pin dock-connector cable.
    Eliminate third-party security software conflicts.
There may be third-party software installed that modifies your default packet size in Windows by inserting one or more TcpWindowSize entries into your registry. Your default packet size being set incorrectly can cause this error. Contact the manufacturer of the software that installed the packet-size modification for assistance. Or, follow this article by Microsoft: How to reset Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) to reset the packet size back to the default for Windows.
Connect your computer directly to your Internet source, bypassing any routers, hubs, or switches. You may need to restart your computer and modem to get online.
Try to restore from another known-good computer and network.

  • Updated iTunes yesterday and now cannot sync iPhone 5

updated iTunes yesterday and now cannot sync iPhone 5

Hard to believe an update did this!! I had the exact problem-updated my iPod & iTunes software & iTunes was crashing whenever I hooked up the iPod-"unclicking" all of my purchased music did the trick! THANK YOU EVER SO MUCH FOR THAT TIP-I'M SURE I WOULD'VE STILL BEEN TRYING TO FIGURE OUT THE PROBLEM!!
Wish I hadn't restored factory settings first since I would have at least still had my piles of PURCHASED music on the iPod-I accidentally had ONE purchased song checked off to update the iPod & it crashed all over again-glad it was easy enough to figure out which song wasn't from my cd collection that I uploaded! Does anyone have any idea how this will be handled? It seems that money should be refunded for buying these songs for Apple products that, upon the company's instructions to upgrade, can no longer be played on the hardware they're specifically designed for! Or at least they're hopefully coming up with a new upgrade to solve the problem! Very irritating situation!

Then something is setup incorrectly, which version of OSX are you on, and is this an iCloud mail address (@mac, @me or @icloud)
From your description of the issue I suspect that it is Outlook that is incorrectly setup.

  • How do I sync iPhone contacts with osx 10.9.4 contacts?

I have an iPhone running iOS 7.1.2.
It has 143 contacts in it.
I have a MacBook Pro running OSX 10.9.4 with 'Contacts' 8.0.
It shows the same 33 contacts I entered when I got my iPhone in 2012.
I have been trying to update, i.e., SYNC,  the contacts in my MacBook Pro's Contacts 8.0 using a USB cable without any luck. I'm not a big fan of iCloud.
I have SYNC CONTACTS checked in iTunes 11.2.2  INFO with my iPhone connected via USB.
Since the MacBook Pro's Contact 8.0 is where my contacts SHOULD be saved and THE most BASIC way to save the contacts, I'm amazed at how convoluted and difficult it is to sync my iPhone's contacts with Contacts 8.0 on my MacBook Pro.
    What am I missing?

    Hello AuCountry,
Thank you for contacting Apple Support Communities.
You don't say what you have tried and what you see when you do try to sync, but this article is the place to start to sync your iPhone.
