HT1296 no device button shown in itunes?

just downloaded the new itunes to my lap top running windows 8 but when i connect my iphone 5s or ipad air the device bar or button isnt there to select???

If I plug my iPhone 5 into my iMac, I can usually open iTunes (12, fyi) and see my devices listed. Did so today and the following:
1. I show no devices button in the upper left in iTunes. Have the music, movies and tv buttons and the " ..." only
2. Clicking on Devices in the File menu has all grayed options
3. iTunes Preferences on Devices does show backups for various devices but didn't want to use any of these as I don't want to restore anything
4. Every time I plug the iPhone into the iMac I get the "do you trust this computer" message, answer yes
5. On the iPhone, General, iTunes wi-fi sync offers no options, all are grayed out
6. On the iPhone, Setting, iTunes & AppStore all info appears correct
7. Homesharing is turned on
iMac 10.7.5 4GB
Can someone offer steps to get the iTunes devices button? Thanks!

Ipod shuffle 4th generation device not shown on itunes, not charging. Seeing red light when connecting to USB charger for a few seconds, then nothing. How to fix this?

My ipod shuffle 4th generation was working fine for a few months. My son then bit the USB charger. I bought a new USB charger, but the shuffle is not charging and not showing up under the devices in itunes. It also doesn't appear in my windows under my computer. Just to note. I also have a new ipod touch. I am able to charge that fine on the same computer using the USB charger. The device (Ipod touch) does show up in windows and in itunes. The shuffle doesn't show in either place.
I have tried to use the apple support page. I went through each step. I made all of my USB drives not shut down, I had my computer on all night to try and charge the shuffle. All I see is a red light that appears on the shuffle for a few seconds when I first connect the USB charger to the computer. Then, nothing. Since this was working a bit ago, I don't think that I have a defective shuffle. The USB charger is brand new, I just picked it up yesterday from the apple store. I have the short one, and the longer cable as well.
Any help that you might be able to give to me would be much appreciated. My daughter is missing listening to her music. Thanks!

Instead of "charger," you should call it the "USB cable" to avoid confusion. When started reading your post, I was thinking, how can your son break a USB power adapter (the "charger" that plugs into a wall socket) by biting it...
Since you got the product with the two USB cables at the Apple Store, you have the right replacement (some third-party replacements are for the 2nd gen shuffle and do not work with the 4th gen shuffle). Make sure you are completely inserting the plug into the headphones jack. The fit may be tighter than expected, since the connectors are new.

If you tried both of those cables, it would be unlikely that you got two faulty cables in one package. If a new USB device has been added to the computer between the time it worked with the old cable and now, there could be a problem on the USB bus (such as not enough power or a device conflict).
As a test, you should shut down (power off) the computer and disconnect all USB devices (including any hub), except for standard keyboard and mouse (if used). Do this to reset the shuffle

Start up computer, run iTunes, and connect the shuffle by itself to a direct USB port on the computer.

I'm trying to sync my device to itunes. It keeps telling me to click the device button but for me it doesn't show up. I've already upgraded itunes. Also whenever I plug my device into the computer itunes never shows up. How do I make it do that? Thanks!

I need help with a few things....
1.) My ipod touch (5th gen) was doing what i believe was an ios7 update when i stopped it becuz it was taking forever. After that the screen just said connect to itunes. I've looked up how to fix it and i know it would work but there is a few things...I dont ever use my ipod for music. Just for apps and stuff and I have never connected it to itunes or anything. I need help making it so when i connect my ipod to the computer it starts syncing. But when I follow the directions for that, it says go to the device button and I dont have that option...Help!!
2.) In all the help videos, it says to do the slide to turn off thing but my ipod never lets me!! It does turn off though.
Theres a few other things. I need to know if this problem can be fixed if I can't find a way to fix the things i just said. Or if there is somebody that I can have repair it for me. Also if I have a warranty with Best Buy, I need to know if this could be covered. This was a gift from my boyfriend for Christmas and I use it a lot. You cannot update it if you can't get the latest version of iTunes. Actually, the latest version of iTunes will run in XP if you have Service Pack 2. Also, you posted in the iPad forum, and your profile shows you have an iPad, but in your post, you say it is an iPod. Is it an iPad or an iPod?

Well, any easy way to find out is to do as I suggested, login to iCloud.com & try to locate the phone. Have you bothered to try that?
If that doesn't work, you'll have to let your battery run out, then try recovery mode.

HT1386 It says to click the device button in the upper right corner....there isn't one. Itunes doesn't even recognize my devices since I did the most current update. I have two iPhones, thru different carriers, and neither one works now!

I did the latest iTunes update...I have 2 iPhones--each thru a different provider. Now, I can't sync to download any music from iTunes. iTunes doesn't recognize either device now. I went thru diagnostics, didn't work. I tried the suggestions from Apple...it says to click the device button in upper right corner....there isn't one. When I connected each for the first time after update, it "installed device drivers". I have checked for further updates on iTunes--nothing. I made sure there were no updates listed for iPhones...all up to date. Devices are not listed at all. I have tried all 3 USB ports in computer too. I have never had any problems before this update!! HELP! I just bought $15 worth of music I can't download to phones now!

On the left hand side of iTunes do you have the sidebar up left hand side?
If this is not up then try this, with iTunes open press "Control" and "s" together and it should bring it up. From the sidebar it should show an option devices with the iPhones underneath it.

Besweet, I'm having the very same problem with 60GB colour which was bought new and worked for 6 months before suddenly just not being recognised by PC. I hadn't changed anything at all.
I've followed all troubleshooting advice and reinstalled and updated iTunes and iPod updater software but all troubleshooting routes seem to hit the dead end of either the need to access the iPod via the PC (which isn't possible as it's not showing up at all) or the iPod in disc mode stuck at "ok to disconnect".
It's still under 1yr warranty so will have to take to a dealer.
I'm sorry that's not much help for you but at least you know it's not a unique problem.

What do you mean?
You buy an app from itunes on your computer?
If so, then sync it to your iphone.
Open itunes, connect iphone, select the apps you want under the apps tab and sync.

Itunes 11 missing display device button cant send to Air play devices

Hello, does anyone know where the button went in ITunes 11 that you can select what device you want to listen or watch on? There used to be a little TV/Screen image in the lower right of the bottom bar where you could select Computer/Apple TV or Iphone but this is no longer there so I cant push items from my computer directly from my computer to my Apple TV gen2 without logging into the Apple TV and going through the hassel of searching for the song or video and so forth. This is a pain in the butt. It is also gone from the latest Iphone update so if I am listening to the phone and want to send it to the stereo cant do that either so anyone know what is going on??

you'll want to look for that same little mirror play logo image - itunes 11 should be on the top menu bar. On you i device double tap the home button and swipe from left to right on the bottom of the screen that pops up and you should see the mirroring icon there.

It is opening up your computer generally because there are photos in the camera roll to prompt you to import them to the computer as you would a digital camera.

It is not missing but is on the far right hand side. So you may have to widen your window to see it.
