So I'm still confused on what syncing really means, I have more songs on my ipod than in my lirary because something happened and they dissapeared off there, so if i sync my ipod will it take all the songs off my ipod that arent in my itunes library?

Depends upon wich method y uses to sync and the source of the songs (iTunes or CD)

I'm trying to sync my Outlook 2010 contacts with my iPhone (iOS6.1.3) using iTunes (11.0.1.12). I no longer have the option under the iTunes Info tab to "Sync contacts from" so I can't select Outlook. At one point, it was there. It now states that the contacts are being synced with iPhone over the air from iCloud, but I have no other options or way to change this. What can be done to fix this? Thanks.

Problem solved- I needed to uncheck the option under Settings/iCloud on the iPhone to sync the contacts with iCloud. With this turned off, I get the option again to sync with Outlook under the Info tab in iTunes.

I have all my calendars' information on my iPod and got a new computer. When I sync the iPod with iTunes, all my information is wiped. Is there a way to transfer the calendars from the iPod to the Macbook and not all the way around?

1. Why does my iPhone 4 not show up on My Computer as a Device? And yet it beeps accordingly, and iTunes starts up, so I must be connected?

Work through the other troubleshooting steps in the article, including the iPhone troubleshooting assistant. If you are still having problems, even though you mentioned you already uninstalled iTunes, try uninstalling iTunes and all of its components by following this guide: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923, then reinstall iTunes. You must follow this guide exactly or it will not be successful. Note: uninstalling iTunes will only remove the application; it will not touch your iTunes library or data.

My iPad has always synced automatically with my iMac when I connected them. Today I get the message "could not be synced because sync session failed to start".

I have tried syncing my contacts with my iPad and I only seem to get 886 of my contacts added - leaving out over half of them (I have 1700 plus contacts) - why can't I add ALL my contacts? Has anyone else had this problem? Cheers

This is the first time that you synced contacts with Outlook? Have you used iCloud in the past? How were you syncing contacts before? While a backup can contain contact information, it is not foolproof (as you have discovered). Also, contacts are not stored in iTunes. If you have not done anything since this, try to restore to a backup done before this sync and see if you can recover the contacts. It may not be able to be done. Good luck.

HT1296 sync failed to start

I have a collection of CDs which I ripped a year plus ago on my Laptop. Recently I started using iTunes to manage & play these Albums. I decided to copy/sync the files to my iPhone. I installed & enabled on the iPhone & it appears in iTunes under devides. When I click Music on the Tool Bar I see Entire Music Library. I click on the Sync Button & I see step 1 of 3 then step 2 message flys by so fast I can't read it but I eventually see Sync Session failed to start.
I've run every diagnostic I can find. I chased down every Help Topic with no luck.
This music was not purchased from iTunes, the CDs were ripped from my collection to the laptop years ago & now I'd like to have them on my phone but no luck & no help from Help.

Syncing my iPhone with Outlook, in iTunes, only transfers the information from Outlook to my iPhone, not vise versa. How can I configure it to transfer data from my iPhone to Outlook as well?

I had a backup from outlook that I restored to outlook and then used Itunes to sync the Iphone
I had to turn off the ICloud sync
The only problem now is that it does not sync my calendar or contacts unless i plug the phone into my compluter and tell Itunes to sync them

In iTunes, when you select your phone, you should see a tab for Apps. Check the Sync Apps box on that page. If you don't have many apps, you can also download directly to your phone by opening the App Store, tap Updates, and then Purchased (at top of screen).

Using 2 iPhone 4, iPad 2 3G wifi and a PC running windows 7. I seem to have several note folders in each devices. They all sync with exchange, but some are in my outlook notes, and some in my google notes....I would like to pull them all together as one file. Is there a way to export or import them? Thanks

An apple genius told me to sync my iphone as "new" to get rid of corrupt software after restoring it, and he sent me a link on how to do it, but the webpage doesn't explain how to restore any differently than I did before. So basically he wasted hours of my time when I could have just gotten a replacement phone and be done with.
I don't get it.

Open itunes, connect iphone, click restore.
Choose as new instead of from backup.

Got a new laptop and would like to sync my iPad & iPhone libaries. iTunes is trying to make me wipe all files from the devices & start over. Any way to go the other way?

Of course it wants to erase the device if there is nothing in the iTunes library. Your iTunes content doesn't download to a new computer from iTunes.
You can transfer the iTunes library from the old computer to the new one if you still have the old computer. There are a number of article here that explain how to do it.

If you no longer have the old computer, you need to transfer the iPad contents into the new laptop before you can sync with it. Read this user tip. It talks about using an iPhone but it works the same way with an iPad.
