HT1320 iPod Nano 2nd Gen isn't detected by any computer using any cable

Hi all,
Discovered a 2nd gen ipod nano while digging out the christmas decorations - it powers up and charges through the cable when plugged into either a power outlet or a computer, but the computer will not detect the device at all.
I've tried two different PCs, and two different cables but still nothing.
Normally, if a device is plugged in, a notification message and sound are displayed and played, but Windows see no devices in the device manager, and itunes doesn't pickup any devices either.

I tried all solutions: the 5 R's, reading other people's problems and nothing answers mine. I tried "adding new material" in the control panel but it didn't work.
Some people told me to wait until it gets fully charged but nothing happens as the ipod shows it's fully charged

Ipod Shuffle 2nd gen isn't recognized by my MacBook with new cable.

I have an Ipod Shuffle 2nd gen, I used to charge it with the original dock that came with it, but my cat ate that and I had to buy a new cable. I'm a newbie to computer stuff so bear with me if the info I provide is insufficient. The cable I bought looks like this:

But now when I connect it to my MacBook Pro it won't get recognized at all! Does this new sync cable only work with the latest generations of Ipod Shuffle? What gives?

The Apple store shows that the type of USB cable you bought is only compatible with the 3G and 4G shuffles.

I have an IPOD Nano (2nd Gen) and all of a sudden i can no longer get my IPOD to sync with Itunes.
It has worked in the past but just recently the ipod icon does not show on the source pane, when i go in to devices all items are greyed out so i can not select anything.
Any ideas????

i did that middle button and top button for 6-10 seconds, hold play button, that hold button and got it right back and still it won't on but it is detected on my pc and itunes. i've already even put on some songs but it keeps on charging and charging for how many hours and if i remove it, it shuts off and won't turn on again.

Call Apple Care. You are still under warranty. You also have 14 days from the date of purchase to return your iPod with no questions asked.
Take FULL advantage of your warranty. Posting on a message board should be done as a last resort and if you are out of warranty or Apple Care has expired.

I have not had a computer for several years and I just got a new one. My old computer got a virus and when that happened all my music was lost. Thank goodness I had it all on my Ipod Nano 2nd GEN. Now my problem is that I don't know how to get the music off my Ipod Nano onto my new computer!!! I was able to get the songs that I purchased thru ITunes by just authorizing my new computer. But I have alot more music that is on my Ipod nano that I can't put into my ITunes library. In fact, I can't even get my music into a file folder on my computer!! I really need help. How do I get my music either into ITunes or into a file folder on my new computer or even if I could get my computer to recognize my Ipod and sync all the music into windows media or something like that. Every time I connect my IPod all that happens is that it tells me if I sync the IPod that it will replace all the music from my ITunes library on to my IPod. They don't have the music on their computer so they cannot transfer the iTunes folder, from the computer to their iPod and then to the new computer. And if they try to enable disk use on the iPod it will erase all the music that is on it. The method you cited is moving the files in a data format using the iPod as a flash drive. It doesn't work if they are in music format. That is why I suggested Yamipod.

I bough a 4g Ipod nano 2nd gen for my cousins birthday. When i plug it into my computer it charges but does not show up in windows or itunes. Removing and reinstalling iTunes and other software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
However, after your remove the Apple software components also remove the iCloud Control Panel via Windows Programs and Features app in the Window Control Panel. Then reinstall all the Apple software components
- New cable and different USB port
- Run this and see if the results help with determine the cause

i have read through alot of the posts and have not seen anything similar to my question.
i got my daughter an ipod nano for xmas.
we really dont leave the computer on alot and she was wanting a docking station/speaker setup. i found one that charges it/ has speakers and is also an alarm clock.
she likes the idea of having the alarm clock with it.

we have not hooked it up yet because of a small problem maybe. (hooked up to power that is)
it came with a bunch of different adapters for the different ipod versions. well the nano one is incorrect. i guess due to ours being a 2nd gen version.
the ipod goes right on the dock fine with out it.
the little plastic adapter i got with the ipod kinda works in the slot of the radio but would need a little modification to snap in. the difference is the outside shape and would just needed some sanding. i have called the support number for the radio and all i could get from the was its not compatable. and i am not too sure why.
from what i have found out is all the ipod dock connectors are the same and there is no difference. not sure about this just what i have noticed.
i tried to call my local apple store and ask them but that guy started talking about firewire and problems. i told him how it docked and what it was and he still insisted on talking about firewire and those problems. i hung up as it didnt sound like he knew anything.
so now would i be ok in useing the adapter i got with the ipod and makeing some slight mods(sanding outside edge) to it. or is the something totally different between the 1st gen and 2nd gen that would mess up the ipod if put in this unit.
the reason i want this unit as it will replace her current alarm clock and she has a loft bed and its the only unit that we have seen that will fit and is in our price range.

The dock adaptor that came with the iPod is meant to fit Apple's universal dock and not a 3rd party accessory.
The reason you are having issues is because although the dock connectors on iPods are all the same (the pins are in the same place), the connector on the second gen nano is in a slightly different place than on the first. If you look at it from the bottom with the iPod face up, it's slightly more to the left. This, and the fact that it has a metal case with rounded edges, has made the new nano incompatible with almost all these type of accessories.
It's been mentioned here several times, and a few people have been able to get the manufacturer of the dock to supply them with an adaptor.

Just this morning, my iPod nano (2nd gen.) stopped getting recognized in my iTunes and on my computer hard drive. It still charges when it's plugged into the computer, but the device is not recognized otherwise. What is going on?? Thanks!

p.s. I also connected it to my husband's laptop and his iTunes wouldn't recognize the device either (if that helps).

My computer running Windows 7 doesn't recognize my ipod nano 2nd gen. Also my ipod not seen in my itunes. I did all the reset stuff and nothing works. Do you think it is just shot???

Make sure you have the latest version of iTunes. Are you a Mac or PC user?

hi everyone,
I have a mac powerpc g4 and am running osx 10.3.2 and itunes 6.0.4. as far as I know, that's the latest itunes that will work with this os. I can plug in my own ipod (an old 40 gb) and everything's great. the problem is when my fiance plugs in hers -- she wants to load some of my mp3s onto her ipod. it shows up as an ipod on the desktop, but itunes doesn't recognize it. I tried the 5 R's already -- I even restored her ipod nano 2nd gen and made sure it was in mac format and had the latest software, which it now does. but it makes no difference. her own itunes/mac recognizes her ipod just fine; the problem is when we plug it into my mac. I suspect I need some different, updated driver that will explain to my mac that the thing that's being plugged in needs to be treated like an ipod. any ideas where I can find such a driver that would work with my os, or, failing that, any ideas as to anything else that would fix the problem? any help is much appreciated.

My IPod Nano will charge when connected to my computer but it won't come up on My Computer or iTunes. So I can't update the songs. I've already tried reseting the iPod. Does anybody know what I can do to fix it.

I just bought my iPod nano 2nd gen, and I realized that there is no wall charger for it. Therefore I am wondering, if I can use the wallcharger for my old iPod mini?
I that cannot be done, I would like some alternatives, since I would like to bring my iPod on vacation, and therefore I need more than 24 hours of battery life.
