HT1320 there is a big red X on my ipod classic screen

there is a big red x on my screen and i cant turn it on

Hello, jmwadd.
I'd start with trying to restore the iPod via iTunes while the iPod is in disk mode. Refer to the following article for further information.

  • I got a big red X on my iPod that won't go away! Help!

So yes, l do have this big red X on my iPod (l'm thinking this is like red ring on an Xbox 360), and no matter how many times i reset it, it won't go away.
I'm thinking this time is no trick, it's messed up. What can i do?
    - l did try and connect it to my computer, but it resets, and shows the red X again. It's not even showing up on iTunes, so i can't restore it.
    What should i do?!
    - It also shows the website "www.apple.com/support/ipod", and when i go there,
    it does nothing for me.

  • Ther is a big red cross on my itunes

recentlz i was asked to reset my ipod classic 160gb. so i did. now it wont reconnect to the computer and it switches between having a big red cross on the front with the weblink to the supportwebsite and the notification that i have to reset the ipod but i cant do anything othereise because as sewn as as those slides are shown, the ipod turns off again.how am i supposed to reset my ipod if it wnt connect?pls help

It sounds like however you did your clone really
didn't work right. The mdimporters should be here:
    PB 17 2005 2GB   Mac OS X (10.4.5)
They're there. I can see them. They're just either "disabled or broken," as the error message says.
What I want to know is how to fix them or replace them.
I suppose in the end, if nothing works, I will have to give up Foxtrot and Spotlight because EasyFind can do the job of both of them ... without hogging my system with 'mdimport'.
Spotlight and Safari can hog 80% of my CPU resources when operative.

  • Big Red X on my Ipod screen

my ipod is a ipod classic. the issue that I am having is that it was fully less than half of the battery wasted and it turned off. Every time I press the menu button it shows and red X and it says to go to the apple website. does not work, what can I do?

See if you can do a Reset (restart the iPod)
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1320
If it gets you back to the same screen, try putting the iPod into Disk Mode
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1363
If the iPod goes into Disk Mode, run iTunes and connect the iPod.  iTunes may say something about "recovery" and prompt you to do a Restore.  If so, do the Restore.  This will erase the iPod, reinstall its software, and set it to default settings.
If the iPod does not go into Disk Mode (or if the Restore fails), the most likely cause is a faulty hard drive.

  • Why do duplicate albums appear on my iPod Classic screen when there are no duplicates in my iTunes Library?

Why do duplicate albums appear on my i{Pod Classic screen when there are no duplicates in my iTunes Library?

It's probably going to be a capitalisation error. In other words, one or more tracks on the album has a lower case letter at the beginning of the album name while all the others have a capital letter. They can be difficult to spot.
In iTunes, examine one of your duplicated albums carefully. You should be looking for a slight difference between the album title name. Look at the screenshot below, can you see the error in the album title?
    It is there...
The title track (Left Of The Middle). Look at the capitalisation of the album name.
Once you find you error in your album, re-type it (or copy-and-paste from one track to all the tracks) and then SYnc your iPod to iTunes. Does that cure it? If nto, let us know.

  • Is there a protective casing still available for the ipod classic?

Hello, I am searching for a version of the ipod for my autistic brother as a replacement for his portable CD player. I was thinking of going with the ipod classic, as the buttons may be less confusing for him than a touch screen. My largest concern is the possibility of him dropping the ipod. He is 6 foot, and has no recent history of dropping his CD player, but that is still a concern. Is a protective case for the ipod classic still available? Any other suggestions as to what would be good for him? Thanks

Sorry, but there is not.  There may be for the iPod Touch, iPhone, or iPad though.

  • My glass screen popped out of my iphone 4 so I popped it back in and there is a big black spot and half of my screen is white do I get a new phone or replace the screen

    Please help

    Hello Philly,
I believe that when you reset your ipod(command given from the computer, right?)  touch WHILE the ipod was updating, It cleared the system in the middle of writing files, thus corrupting(equivalent of cutting of in the middle of a sentence) the basic running system.
I suggest you go to an apple store and ask for a technical diagonosis in person. they may offer to help if the problem is fixable. If your ipod is still under warrenty, i would guess it would be free/low cost.

  • Is there a way to password protect my Ipod classic?

    Hi,
I was just wondering if there is a way to password protect my Ipod Classic. I have some sensitive material on it that I don't want my little brother to have access to but i'm not sure how to hide these vids so nobody can find them....any suggestions?

Ok, exactly how do i set a screen lock that locks other users out of the iPod altogether?
Clicking on the link I posted earlier tells you how.

  • Getting a Red "X" on startup screen (iPod Classic- 80 GB)

So it's been a while (3-4 years) since I last used my iPod Classic. But now when I wanted to start it up (after fully charging it), it 'greets' me with a Red "X". I saw the support thread for this issue, tried troubleshooting but to no avail. I've forced the iPod into 'Disk Mode' and tried connecting it to the computer (to restore the iPod) but as soon as I connect it, iTunes stops responding. My laptop detects the iPod (because I can hear the notification) but in My Computer I can't access the iPod (because when I try to do that Windows Explorer crashes). I tried reinstalling iTunes (current version- 11.1.4) but the problem still persists.
    Please Help!

    Hi wolfsblade,
It sounds like you have been on the right track in troubleshooting this issue. If you are continuing to get a red "X" on your iPod Classic, you may find the following articles helpful:

  • Why is there a big red X on one frame of my FCPX export?

I exported this twice and both times on ONE frame there is a giant red X over the frame. This wasn't there in FCPX, just in the export. Why?  How do we fix this?

You should be posting this in Final Cut Pro X forum, located here:
    https://discussions.apple.com/community/professional_applications/final_cut_pro_ x
but an X like that is usually the result of applying an effect, that has not been fully licensed, to the clip, so the effect applies a watermark X.
