HT1329 Can I use my iPod to move my library with new iTunes 11.0?  If yes, how??

can my iPod still be used to move my entire library from my old PC to my new laptop?  I updated iTunes to 11.0, and the interface is completely new and different, and the previous instructions no longer work...

Your i-device was not designed for unique storage of your media. It is not a backup device and media transfer was planned with you maintaining a master copy of your media on a computer which is itself properly backed up against loss. Syncing is one way, computer to device, updating the device content to the content on the computer, not updating or restoring content on a computer. The exception is iTunes Store purchases which can be transferred to a computer.
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848 - only purchases from iTunes Store
For transferring other items from an i-device to a computer you will have to use third party commercial software.  See this document by turingtest2: Recovering your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device - https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3991

  • Can I use my iPod to move photos and music from one computer to another?

    Hi,
Is it possible to have photos and music on my iPod from one computer, and then copy those from my iPod to another computer? (like with an ordinary USB-unit)
And another question: Is it possible to download movies onto my iPod? If yes, how? (owner of an iPod 30GB)
    Thanks!

Did you set it to copy full-resolution photos??? If so, enable your iPod for disk use, open my computer, click on your iPod, and open the pictures folder. You can just drag them from there. If you didn't, use a program such a CopyPod Photo (google it) to copy photos from your iPod. Note that the files will only be the same resolution as your iPod screen (320x240) and not worth using for anything else. If you want to use it for sharing, definitely go with the full-res option. It is at the bottom of the photos pane in the iPod screen in iTunes.

  • How can I use my iPod to move music?

I know people say that if you want to move your entire library to burn it to a disc and and copy it to a new computer but I just want to take a single playlist off my iPod and add it to a new computer. How would I go about doing that? Please help! Thanks in advance.

  • Can I use my ipod and an iphone on the same itunes library?

    Hi
I want to buy an iphone but when I asked the sales assistant if I could use my ipod and iphone on the one itunes library she said she thought I should be able to but was not 100% sure. I want to be able to play my music, audio books etc on both.
    Thanks

    Hey deepseablue71
here is the link "using multiple ipods with one computer" again, just tested, it works for me:

How do you use the same itunes library for multipul ipods/iphones? >
First of all, when it comes to music I create playlists. That makes it more easy to handle on different devices.
When I plug in my iPhone I select the playlists, video or other data I want to have and sync. Same with my iPods. After that I have similar playlists and data on my iPhone and iPods, even calendar and adressbook are updated.
    Hope this helps,
    Cheers,

  • Can I use my iPod to restore iPhoto library?

The hard drive on my MacBook Pro recently "died" and I am unable to recover any files from it. I had a new hard drive installed and want to know if there s there any way to use my iPod, which has all of my photos on it, to restore my iPhoto library? I did transfer photo files from my iPod - a photo database and thumbs - but when i try to open using iPhoto i get a message that the files are unreadable?
I am afraid to connect my iPod to my computer now, in case all of the photos on my iPod disappear. Any instructions or advice would be greatly appreciated.

When you copied the pics to the iPod did you include the full sized pics? It is a deliberate decision you have to make when syncing with the Library. If you didn't then all that's on your iPod are tiny thumbnails.

  • How can i sync my ipod touch to another library without losing whats already on it, how can i sync my ipod touch to another library without losing whats already on it?, how can i sync my ipod touch to another library without losing whats already on it?

How can I sync my ipod to a new computer without losing what's already onit? Can it be done?

    You can't. Sort of.
No. Not really. But kind of. See below.
    See this:

Question: I have a computer at home and one at work. Can I update my iPod music collection from more than one computer?
Answer: Yes. When you first connect iPod to your computer, iPod recognizes that computer as its "home" computer. Each time you connect, iPod automatically downloads the music library stored on it. When you connect iPod to a different computer, iTunes will inform you that iPod is linked to a different iTunes library and will ask whether you wish to erase iPod's contents and sync with the new computer's library. If you will be connecting to multiple computers frequently, configure your iPod to manually manage music. This will allow you to selectively drag songs, albums, or playlists from the second computer to your iPod without compromising the existing music.
Synchronization generally occurs only in one direction, from your computer to your iPod. This means you typically cannot transfer music, automatically or manually, from your iPod to a computer, and you cannot use iPod to copy a music library from one computer to another. An exception to this is the transfer purchases feature which allows you to restore purchased iTunes content to your computer from your iPod. Additionally, if you legally are allowed to copy music or other media files, you can configure your iPod as a storage drive to move media files.

  • 1st gen ipod touch will not work with new iTunes 11.help!

1st generation Ipod Touch.  I ran an update on my ITunes on my PC, and my IPOD will no longer connect to my itunes.  Please help.  If at all possible.

iTunes 11 works with all model iPods.
If you  have iTunes 11 turn on the Sidebar. Go to iTunes>View and click on Show Sidebar. You can also do a Crtl+S to show the sidebar. The sidebar is where Devices appears. and Control+B to show the Menu bar

  • Ipod wont sync at all with new itunes 11.4

i recently purchased a new asus laptop with windows 8.1 on it & downloaded itunes 11.4
since then, although my itunes recognises my ipod, it will not sync with the new library AT ALL. i have an ipod classic 30gb 5th generation
i have not had this issue with my iphone 5 7 the recent ios8 upgrade yet...
i am aware that there are several issues/bugs with the new version of itunes from what i have seen on the forums

I also had issues with this, and had to replace all podcasts on my iPhone several times. Then, recently, half played podcasts on my iPhone would reset to unplayed status during the day, it got so annoying that I eventually (just yesterday) finally took the plunge and went the Podcasts app route. I don't like it as much as iTunes, but it's growing on me. As for needing iOS 6, you need iOS 5.1 or later.
Hope this helps! As a great alternative to Podcasts, I also use Instacast.

  • Use existing external hard-drive music library with new laptop.

I moved my I-tunes library to an external hard-drive on my previous laptop. That worked fine. After a hard disk crash I am now configuring a new laptop (installing I-tunes) and I would like to keep my music on the external hard drive: How do I proceed?

Depends on whether you had your complete library (including the iTunes database) on the external drive, or just your media files and folders.  If the former, you can just hold down shift as you start iTunes, and when you get this is prompt:
click on Choose Library... then navigate to and select the iTunes Library.itl file on the external drive.
In the other case - and assuming that you can't copy or retrieve the database file from your old machine or a backup of it, create a new library in X:\iTunes (where "X" is the drive letter of your external drive, make sure the settings in Edit > Preferences > Advanced are as follows:
and then use File > Add Folder to Library... to add your existing media folders.

  • HT1364 new windows 7 computer, have downloaded itunes library from carbonite, cannot move old library to new itunes program

I have a new windows 7 computer.  I have downloaded my old itunes library from my carbonite backup to this computer.  I cannot seem to move the old library folder to the new itunes program I have just downloaded.

Restore the ENTIRE iTunes folder from the backup to the new computer.
    Launch iTunes.
Everything in iTunes will be exactly as it was.

  • HT1329 Can I use my iPod as the only source for my music?

I have iTunes backed up from my old computer on an external hard drive, but don't want to use up nearly half of the hard drive space on my new computer for music storage.  My iPod is 160 gig, so there's enough storage for music files.  Just added the library to the mac mini and synced the ipod but don't know if I should delete the library (on the mac mini) after I go into prefrences and change the location of the media folder to the ipod.

You must have gotten an SSD in your mini, then: I didn't think of that initially.
While it is technically possible to mount an iPod and use it in disk mode to store an iTunes library, the iPod's drive is very slow and not designed for the sort of continuous use having it store your iTunes library would put it to, so I would not recommend using it as such. If you don't want to keep your library on the mini, use the external drive, or perhaps better buy another one to use for your library.  You can pick up a 500GB USB drive for under $60 if you shop around.
BTW, marking your own post as being the one to solve your problem isn't a good strategy unless you did indeed find the solution yourself and do not need any further responses.
    Regards.

  • Can i use nike+ipod (sensor kit or not) with my 1st gen ipod touch?

okay. so i just bought an ipod touch about a month ago because i had an ipod classic but wanted to use nike+. Well i was cruisin the apple website looking to buy nike+ and realized that it says that it only works with 2nd generation touchs. I was about to bust a nut. I did not just spend 250 dollars on a touch and now i cant even use nike+
I bought the 2.2 software upgrade a bit before that, and im wondering if with this upgrade i can use nike+? I understand that the 2nd gen touch has a built in thingy majigger, but if i bought the sports kit (both the sensor fo rhte ipod nad the reciever for the shoe) can i still use it?
    thanks in advance.

    Nope... no external volume controls.
So now I have to return a Christmas gift -- one I was really looking forward to using! Thanks a lot, Apple.
And here I thought I was buying a reasonably up-to-date product six months ago, when I got my Touch.
Is there some really compelling reason why the plug-in receiver will work with Nanos of all kinds... but not Touchs?

  • I have both an ipod touch and an ipad, what are some cool feauture/apps that I should use? Can I use my ipod touch to control my ipad playing itunes?

I just got the new ipod touch and I have an iPad 2, I am just look for some opinions and recommendations as to what apps, or cool features I can use between the two. Thanks.

Your problem is that everyone seems to be using the same iTunes store account (ID).  That's fine when a family wants to share purchased items, but that's the rub - everyone is tapping into the same account, so they can download whatever is available.
As for icloud accounts, icloud is designed for single user use.  If multiple users share the same icloud account then all their devices will be synced together - same emails, same contacts and calendars, same notes, etc.  There is no privacy or division of data in this scenario.  The usual advice is for everyone to have their own ID for icloud, and share the family ID for iTunes store.

  • Can I use an ipod shuffle 4th gen charger with an ipod shuffle 2nd generation?

Basically, last week I lost my ipod shuffle (4th gen). ****. so consequently I have bought a second hand 2nd gen shuffle, thinking that the USB - minijack cable would work fine - and it fits perfectly. But my 'new' ipod is not showing up in itunes, and neither is it illuminating...
I spoke to Apple Support, and they suggested plugging it in for an extended period of time, as the battery may be 100% flat, but after an hour still nothing.
    Any ideas, folks?
    Ta!

The USB cable for the 4th gen iPod has a different connector at the iPod end.  This is the replacement part for the one used by the 4th (and 3rd) gen shuffle
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC003ZM/A
and it states at the bottom that it is only compatible with the 3rd and 4th gen shuffle.
This is the replacement part for a second gen shuffle (with a "mini-dock").
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MA694G/A
It's somewhat expensive compared to $49 for a brand new shuffle.  There are cheaper third-party replacements (most have just the connector with no dock) available on Amazon and eBay, and elsewhere.  Just make sure it is described as being for the 2nd gen shuffle.

  • YES OR NO-Can you use one ipod and it's library on more than one computer?

I cannot seem to access my library from this additional computer I have authorized and synced already...is there something I am missing or is an ipod loyal to only one computer at a time?
