HT1329 How do I save my ENTIRE library from certain doom?!!?

Ok, so if I, hypothetically crashed my computer and in a freak accident my external drive was wiped along with my laptop, how would I get all of my music off of my iPod touch 3rd gen without wiping it clean or paying money I don't have?
Is my library hopeless?  Is there nothing I can do to prevent literally HUNDREDS of dollars of music being lost?

Well, thanks for the help, but perhaps I should have phrased myself differenty.  I'll try again.
My Dell laptop is old.  I can't afford a Mac, like, not even nearly.  I have iTunes and I always update it.  My entire computer was backed up on a My Passport 1TB external drive.
In a freak accident (because I'm almost certain that neither the laptop, nor the external drive are designed to work in this way), when my hard drive crashed in my laptop, it ALSO wiped my external drive down to original settings.  I didn't have the chance to unplug the drive safely before the blue screen of death popped up.
Luckily, my iPod was not plugged in when this disaster took place.  I was able to restore my entire laptop, but the external drive didn't recognize that it had ever had any information on it in the first place.  I lost YEARS of precious memories in photos, letters, etc.  All that aside, all of my iTunes was in tact on my iPod touch 3rd gen.  I have dozens of CDs that I can add back to iTunes manually, no big deal.  I've already re-downloaded everything I've bought recently.  The things that I need to recover are the songs without licensing info (my own recordings, open-mic night recordings, etc.) and the CDs that I have lost or broken that were on iTunes already.  I'd rather not have to re-purchase those albums.
I KNOW Apple doesn't have a way of recovering those files to my iTunes from my iPod yet.  At least, not for iPod touch.  I've fixed problems like this for others who have had iPod Nano's or even the classics; but there is no way to make a computer of any kind use the iPod touch as disk space so I can manually transfer files.
Basically, I was just wondering if anyone out there had a program I could use to recopy my files back to my computer from my iPod touch without spend a lot of cash on it because these days, teachers don't really make enough to be spending it on luxury devices.  My iPod is a necessity because I travel for teaching back and forth around the world and I use the applications and music in my classes (I'm a music teacher).  Other than my iPod, I have absolutely NO 'new' electronics.  Even my cell phone is basic and very old and very broken.
If you can afford these awesome Apple devices, excellent!  It must be fun, but don't just assume that I'm an idiot and don't keep backups just because I own a PC.  In fact, I have backups BECAUSE I'm not stupid and I own a PC.  I KNOW they break down all the time!  Unfortunately, most of the time the fixes are cheaper still than owning a Mac.  But, oh, how I'd love to have one!!  They really ARE so much better!!!!
Again, thanks for trying to help!

You can't. iCloud does not apply to music. You will need to subscribe to iTunes Match to get music into the cloud but note that this is not a back up service.

How do you download the entire library from iTunes Match to a new computer?

    Download each song individually.
Or the faster method is to COPY the ENTIRE iTunes folder from the old computer or the backup of the old computer to the new computer.

  • How do I transfer my entire library from an old version of aperture (1.5)?

I need to transfer my entire aperture library from an old version of aperture (1.5) on my old imac (G5) to my new imac with Aperture (3.0).
I have got a backup in the form of a vault, but aperture 3.0 doesn't seem to be accepting that to create a full new library in 3.0.
Any ideas on how to transfer my library? cheers

    Incomplete information:
When i go to File>Vault> Restore Library, it does not recognise the vault as it was from a previous version of aperture and suggests that i 'import' the vault instead.
Fair enough. But when i try and import the vault, it shows the vault in that light grey colour, which means that i can see it, but it won't allow me to select..

  • New Computer, New iTunes How do I import my entire library from old computer

    Greetings,
I just finished setting up a new Mac with OSX 10.9. My older Mac with iTunes accessed a library on a shared, external networked drive. How do I point my new Mac to my old music, movie and app library on my networked drive?
Until I can do that I'll have to use the old machine to view and play music and movies as well as synchronize to my iPod and iPad.
    Thank you for any pointers.
    Tim

Ahh, the sacred option key love learning about all the special keyboard combinations to custimize your mac.
    Thanks!
PS: for anyone trying this, after you select the itunes library you want to import, iTunes might "freeze" for a while with no window open or anything indictating that something's happening, just wait a few minutes for it to process the library and then click on the iTunes icon again and it should open as normal

  • How can I stop my entire library from Syncing up to my Iphone?

Not sure what happened after I restored my data to a new iphone. In Itunes I have only one specific folder marked to sync up my photos. But somehow Im getting my entire 3K plus pics from my Iphoto loaded into the Iphone. What am I doing wrong?

Did you try to delete the photo cache? Photo Sync creates iPod photo Cache
Did you check the content of the folder in iPhoto?

See Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.

How do I save items in library but not copy to ipod?

If the item is in your iTunes library then it is already saved.
With the iPod plugged in then select the items that you want to sync to the iPod. You can sync your entire library to the iPod - space permitting - or just selected content.

  • HT3819 How do I share just one movie (not my entire library) from my itunes library with an authorized computer using home sharing?

How do I share just one movie (not my entire library) from my itunes library with an authorized computer using home sharing?

    many thanks.
    That should be possible.
From his library connect to your library via Home Sharing.
Select the name of the shared library in the source pane of your itunes, and click on the wee disclosure triangle to the left of the name of the library. Does "Films" appear beneath the name of the library?
    Here's a screenshot of what I mean.
Select "Films". In the right-hand pane you should see the item you want to transfer. Just select that item, and click "Import".
Use the same basic technique to get one or a few songs from your library transferred to his library. (The only difference is that you would have "Music" selected instead of "Films".
If you don't want him to have access to other items in your library, you could just switch Home Sharing off on his library after you've done the transfers.

Have you copied your content over from your old computer and onto the new on ? If not, and you still have your old computer, then there a number of methods described on this page which you can use to copy your library over : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527 . If you no longer have your old computer then have you got a backup of your content that you can copy onto the new computer and add into iTunes ?
