Downloading my ipod's music into new iTunes library
I was forced to ghost my computer, and reload the OS, and in doing so obviously lost my original iTunes library. Now iTunes will not load any of my songs that I did not purchase from the iTunes store into my new iTunes library. All of the music I am trying to upload is from my personal CD collection. Is there any way I can transfer the songs from my iPod to my iTunes library without downloading each CD into iTunes via CD drive? thanks
For iTunes version 7 or later, then you can transfer purchased iTunes store music from the iPod to an authorized computer by using the "file/transfer purchases from iPod" menu. Note that the maximum of 5 authorized computers applies here.

For all other non purchased content (your own CDs etc), check out the instructions/suggestions here.
Music from iPod to computer (using option 2). This a manual method using "hidden folders" and although it works, it is a little more involved than other methods.
Much easier ways are to use one of the many 3rd party programs that copy music from the iPod to the computer.
One of the most recommended is Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Other free programs are Pod Player, SharePod and Floola and iDump.
If you want to recover just the structure of playlists from the iPod (and not the actual song files themselves), there's iRepo for Windows. which I understand has this feature along with all the standard features for these programs.
iPodRip also has the feature enabling you to reconstruct playlists.
There is also CopyTrans. This does preserve ratings/playcounts etc if those are important to you but this program is not free. It also supports video transfer.

I recently lost everything on my computer and had to get a new one. I reloaded my ipod information and would like to edit the music that I currently have in my ipod. How do I do this? Do I need to copy it to my new computer's itunes library? If so, please tell me how. I can select the music, but am unable to drag it into the existing itunes library. Do I need to save it to a disc first? If so, how do I do that?

Your i-device was not designed for unique storage of your media. It is not a backup device and media transfer was planned with you maintaining a master copy of your media on a computer which is itself properly backed up against loss. Syncing is one way, computer to device, updating the device content to the content on the computer, not updating or restoring content on a computer. The exception is iTunes Store purchases which can be transferred to a computer.

Hi, so I got my new computer loaded up with iTunes and I want to be able to move my music from my old iPod to my new iTunes library without losing any of the music I already have placed on the iPod. How would I do this? And please I'm not too savvy with the new iTunes layout and such so if you could make this easy in layman's terms that would be great.

If you purchased all songs in the iTunes Store, plug your iPod to your Mac or PC and iTunes will ask you to transfer purchases.

I transfered music from my ipod to a new itunes library (new PC). The music plays in itunes but when I sync my ipod and try to drag songs from the itunes library to the ipod it wont load. It shows a circle with aline through it.

SYncing is from itunes on the computer to the phone an dnot the other way around. If they connect to your computer and sync their phone they will have your library annd theirs will be gone. It is recommended that you only sync to one computer

My laptop was destroyed in a house fire along with my back up itunes disks, though i had my 80GB ipod clasic with me (as usual).
