  • Can I transfer my music from a Windows formatted iPod to my new MacBook Pro?

I just ordered a 15 inch 2.3 ghz MacBook Pro and I can't wait to get it. The only thing I am wondering is if I will have any trouble transferring all of my music from my Windows formatted iPod (8gb 3rd generation iPod Nano) to the new MacBook Pro. Should I be able to follow all the steps in this article without any problems?
    Thanks in advance,
    Ryan

In the iPod's user manual should be instructions on how to put the iPod into disk mode so that it will appear as an external hard drive. You can then copy your music to the Mac.

  • Problem with windows formatted iPod on Mac

I have a 20gb 4th gen iPod formatted for Windows. I just received a Mini Mac as a gift and now I want to use the iPod on it. When I connect the iPod and run iTunes it recognizes it and updates and does everything it's supposed to do, but if I try to click on any of the items in the menu on the left (Library, Playlists, etc.) iTunes quits completely and the iPod is ejected. I've tried restoring but that makes it quit, too. I've also tried completely erasing everything from the iPod manually (even the hidden files and folders) but that doesn't reformat it. Any suggestions?

    Senuti.
It's a program that transfers music from iPod to iTunes on a Mac.
    As is Music Rescue.
Both of these should work with a Windows formatted iPod because Macs can read and write to FAT32 formatted drives.

  • Transferring songs from a Windows-formatted iPod classic to iTunes on Mac

Hi everybody, I'm curious to see if this is even possible. My husband's Windows laptop died for the second time in three years, so he decided to switch to a Mac after seeing my MacBook last longer than both of his Windows laptops. :o) Anyway, now that the Windows hard drive is dead-and no, he didn't back up his songs to CD-he wants to transfer the songs on his Windows-formatted iPod Classic to iTunes on his Mac. I tried Yamipod, but it said "firmware unsupported" and quit-I suspect the Windows format had something to do with it. He has a lot of songs ripped from CDs and he doesn't want to lose them or have to spend time re-ripping them. Any ideas?
    Thanks for your help!

  • Song transfer of Windows formatted iPod into Mac iTunes?

My iPod was formatted using my Windows computer, but I recently got a Mac and i use both computers equally. However, I would like both computers to have the same music in iTunes. is there a way to transfer songs from my Windows computer to the Mac without reformatting my iPod?

You can't sync or drag your music back directly from an iPod to iTunes, the transfer of music is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod, this is just a selection. Have a look at the web pages and documentation for these, they are generally quite straightforward. I use Senuti but check the others out and choose whichever you are happy with.

  • Music library from Mini (windows formatted) to Intel Mac Book

My daughter's windows computer crashed hard the other day. She has all her music on her mini and we want to transfer the music from the mini to the Intel MacBook. I've been unable to find any software that does this transfer. There are lots that will move from a Mac formatted mini to a Mac computer, or from a Windows formatted mini to a Windows-based computer, but none that I've found that will do the transfer from Windows to Mac directly.
    Any suggestions?

  • Moving from a Windows formatted iPod to a Mac formatted ipod

First of all, forgive me if this is a repost, as I know I have seen the resolution before, but am unable to find it.
I currently have an iPod 80GB classic, with about 40GB of music on it. I have recently purchased an iMac and want to move to a MAC formatted ipod. That is, connect and manage the ipod in a MAC environment instead of Windows.
I also want to back up all my music on the ipod to my MAC itunes library to ensure my music is all in one place.
Once all is said and done, I want a MAC formatted ipod, and not have lost my music on the ipod by reformatting it.
    Thank in advance.
    How can I accomplish this?

*I have recently purchased an iMac and want to move to a MAC formatted ipod.*
You need to restore it in iTunes for Mac
*I also want to back up all my music on the ipod to my MAC itunes library to ensure my music is all in one place.*
To copy everything (including purchases)to the Mac there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. I use Senuti but have a look at the web pages and documentation for the others too. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here (you'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos and games as well):

iRepo Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPod Access Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
TouchCopy Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide
*Once all is said and done, I want a MAC formatted ipod, and not have lost my music on the ipod by reformatting it.*
Copy the songs to the Mac first then restore the iPod in iTunes for Mac.

  • Problems transferring photos from a Windows formatted iPod Photo to new G5

    Hi all,
I have recently come back from an overseas trip where I stored many many photos on an iPod Photo, using a PC with Windows XP. Now that PC is stuck in the repair shop - most likely not worth saving - and I have bought myself a G5 with OS X and iLife.
Basically iTunes can recognise the number of photos on the iPod, however I cannot view them when I open the Photos folder when in the disk drive. Two folders come up: 'Photo Database' and 'Thumbs'. (I hope I haven't lost the HI RES photos!)
I know there was one post that mentioned creating an empty folder then sync it using iTunes in order to transfer the photos from the ipod- I'm just a bit weary of losing all the photos seeing a warning message displays a similar note.
I thought Mac computers can recognise Windows formatted devices/docs. May it be that the iPod needs to be updated?
I'm calling out to all Mac-savvy users out there who may be generous enough with their time to solve this annoying issue.
    Cheers.

  • Transfering music from a Windows formatted ipod to a Mac - is it possible?

I have a bit of an interesting problem. All my life I've used Macs, occasionally a PC, but I definitely prefer Macs. Anyhow, I currently have a PC, temporarially, I will be getting an iBook late Spring this year, and I have two iPods, a 4G formatted for Mac, with all my music on it, and a 5G formatted for Windows that I just got for Christmas.
Now, my question, when I get my iBook, I want to format the new iPod for Mac and put all my music from the 4G onto it. Getting the music off of my old iPod onto my iBook won't be a problem, however I've got quite a bit of stuff on the new iPod that I don't want to get rid of. Is there anyway to connect my new iPod to my PC and hook the PC up to my iBook and transfer the files that way? Burning everything onto a CD isn't an option, my PC is super old and doesn't have a CD burner, it also has less than 1GB of free space, and I have about 4GB of stuff on the new iPod that I want to transfer over.
Any ideas? I know that I can't connect both iPods together on the same computer to transfer files, particularly considering that one would be formatted for a different system....
Hmmm how difficult is it to transfer files from a computer with Windows XP to a computer with OSX anyway?

  • Transferring Music from a Windows Formatted IPOD to a MAC

I'm trying to transfer my music from my IPOD (which is Windows formatted) to my new Mac. My PC crashed and I, unfortunately, never backed up my Music Library. So, now I've bought this new Mac and want to transfer my songs without restoring the IPOD and losing all my music. Any suggestions as to how I can do this?
    Thanks!

  • Restoring Windows formated ipod to Mac Platform

    Hi..
I own a 15Gb 3rd generation ipod which is windows formatted. I recently bought the imac(intel core duo) and I would like to restore my ipod to mac from windows. When I tried connecting the ipod to my mac using USB, the ipod shows up as a drive and even the ipod software recognizes it but I cannot choose the restore option. It says that I need to connect using a firewire to restore the ipod. When I connect using a firewire, the ipod starts to charge but is not recognized by the computer nor by the ipod updater even though its plugged in. I am using ipod software 2006-3-23 and my imac is running on OSX 10.4.6
Please le me know what I can do.
    15Gb 3rd Generation ipod   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Before doing anything, please make sure all your music has a backup on the iTunes either on your PC or your new Mac.
Then, put your iPod in disk mode (USB or Firewire is fine - but use the one that your iPod can be recognized by your Mac). Connect it with your Mac, open the Disk Utility, go to Tab "ERASE" and click Erase (Mac OS extended (journaled) format). Once it has been done. Eject your iPod and do a Reset. Reconnect your iPod with your Mac and open the iPod updater and click Restore

  • Can I get my songs from my windows formatted Ipod to my Itunes for mac??

I just recently switched over to mac and I'm having a bit of trouble getting started. I have all my songs and pictures on my Ipod formatted to windows and I was wondering if it was possible to get those songs and pics on my new macbook??

    what about my pics??
That part I don't know. I have never used my iPod for pictures.
If you click on your iPod in the Finder, does a Pictures folder show up? If so, you could just drag it over.

  • Windows-formatted iPod to Mac

    Hello
Currently, I have about 12GB of music on a PC and an iPod (20GB 3G) that regularly syncs with this music. I've purchased a Mac and I plan to move all that music over.
Now I think I can move that music across easily enough across the LAN network (is there an article which describes how this can be done?).
Once I've moved that music over I've got to sort out the iPod. How do I format the iPod to a Mac? I know I could keep it PC formatted but I'd prefer if it wasn't. It seems a bit complicated but I hope someone can explain it to me.
    Thanks

*How do I format the iPod to a Mac?*
Connect it to your Mac and restore it with iTunes. Restoring will erase and reformat the iPod's hard drive, reload the software with the Mac version and put it back to default settings. Once the restore is complete follow the on screen instructions and it should connect to iTunes and give you a prompt to automatically update your library onto the fresh installation. If you want to update manually or using selected playlists choose no and it will default to manual mode and you can choose whatever setting you like: Restoring iPod to factory settings with iTunes 7

You can try this to erase your IPOD
    http://www.methodshop.com/mp3/ipodsupport/erase/index.shtml
Hopefully this will work and then the next time you connect it your mac, it will format it for use on a mac.
    Good luck,
