HT1338 Annoying pop up window

After I upgraded my OS from OS X 10.5 to OS X 10.8 about a month back I often get a pop up box with this message "There was a problem connecting to the server.   URLs with type “file:” are not supported." How do I get rid of this problem??

This issue occurs when all the following conditions are all true:
• You have a removable drive configured as drive letter C.
• You do not have a removable disk in the removable disk drive.
To resolve the issue, use one of the following methods:
Change the drive letter assignment for the removable drive to a letter other than C.
To change the drive letter assignments in Windows 7, follow these steps:
1. Log on to the computer as Administrator.
2. Insert a disk in the removable drive.
3. Click Start, right-click on Computer, and then click Manage.
4. Click Disk Management.
5. Right-click the partition, logical drive, or volume that you want to change, and then click Change Drive Letter and Paths.
6. Click the removable drive, click it, click Change, click the drive letter that you want to use, and then click OK.
That should be it.

  • Annoying pop-up window whenever I try to move control points ...

So I'm animating a mask ... and whenever I try to adjust a control point, a little transparent pop-up window appears and tells me what coordinates/values I'm moving the point to.
This is great and all, but all too often, that little window obscures the area that I need to see in order to make an accurate mask.
Is there any way to turn that off?
    Thanks!

I've tried unsuccessfully to turn that off for months. It doesn't seem to respond to any of the "overlays", so I'm going to say that it's NOT possible to turn it off.
I've had the same problem. My only workaround is to zoom in closer to the subject of the mask so it's not obscuring too much. (CMD+/-)

  • How can I eliminate this annoying pop-up window?

I am using Flash Player 10 (build 10.3.181.34) under Windows Vista Home Premium SP 2, Firefox 5.01/Internet Explorer 9.  I run an application (an internet game) with dozens of mighty images to be displayed on the screen. With nearly every image a window pops up messaging as follows:
"Adobe Flash Player 10 slows down by a script inside this picture. If the script furthermore will be executed, the computer potentially will respond no longer. Do you want to abort the execution of the script?" Buttons: YES or NO
I wonder if it is possible to avoid this window to pop up and in these cases automatically to abort the execution of the script (i.e. conforming to the decison YES).

Yes, it is a good idea to use Find My iPad.  To sign out without losing anything, do the following:
If you're running iOS 8.1, save any start by saving any my photo stream photos that you want to keep to your camera roll (unless already there) by opening your my photo stream album, tapping Select, tapping the photos, tap the share icon (box with upward facing arrow), then Save Image.  Then go to Settings>iCloud, tap Sign Out, choose Delete from My iPad and provide your password when prompted (any iCloud data will still be in iCloud).  Then sign back in (any iCloud data will download back to your iPad).

  • A pop-up window appears after log-in and disappears very fast

    Hello,
There is an annoying pop-up window appearing in the center of my screen, after each log-in to my account.
It dissappears ultra-quickly after showing up and I'm not physically able to see what it's about. I can't even take a screenshot.
I wonder whether there is a respective .log file or an event viewer, in order to check what this might be and why it's appearing.
I opened up the Logs folder, but I didn't find something useful. Activity Monitor also didn't help.
In Login Iterms, there is only iTunesHelper app, and it has never caused any kind of problem before.
All of my settings haven't been changed since last three weeks, and this is happening for only three days now.
There is only one account on MBP (OS X 10.8.5). If further information is needed, I'll try to provide them.
    Thanks in advance.

Try setting up another admin user account to see if the same problem continues. If Back-to-My Mac is selected in System Preferences, the Guest account will not work. The intent is to see if it is specific to one account or a system wide problem. This account can be deleted later.

  • Help, I get a pop up window

I used to have a Yahoo account and set it up on Mail to read all my mails when I bought my computer.
I had too much spam and had to close the account and set up another account.  Well now, every hour I get a pop up window requesting the password for my old Yahoo accont.  I have tried everything, even called iMac help, and no luck.  Has this ever happened to anyone?  how did you fix it?
You can't move it and it blocks your working window.
    thanks,
    A.

It sounds like you have your email set up to check the mail every hour. Since you still have that defined as an account to your email, it tries to check the mail, has a password issue, and gives you the annoying pop-up window.
If you go into your mail, preferences, accounts, choose that old account (assuming you want to keep it to keep the mail that was associated with it), click the advanced tab, and uncheck "Include when automatically checking for new messages".

  • Can I save my username and password to login to a wifi network on a pop-up window?

At my college, we have two ways to loging to the wifi. Either directly on the browser, or an annoying pop up window comes up. What I want to do is either stop the pop up window entirely, (preferrable) or save my password to the pop up window.
Also, this pop up window only seems to occur for me. None of my friends get it.

  • Accessing iTunes Store - Pop up window

Does anyone know how to fix this annoying pop up window ''Accessing iTunes Store'' that appears every time I open iTunes or access the iTunes Store? Or anyone out there with same problem?
Every time I type a letter in the iTunes store search box, the progress bar appears! Grrr
The Cinematic Orchestra is off the cards at the moment - Maybe some U2 instead.
The problem first began when I installed iTunes 10.2. All previous versions where fine - no problems. I thought this most recent 10.2.1 update was issued to maybe fix this frustrating glitch. No such luck.
I have tried reinstalling, clearing my caches and making sure the Safari 'Block Pop Up Windows' option is activated.
    Many Thanks

I've fixed mine! From a little help from an apple adviser.
You might want to clear your caches before doing this - under iTunes preferences.
Open iTunes - go to the top bar, click the 'Store' drop down menu >
Then click 'De-authorise this Computer' >
    Enter your password etc >
Then click 'Store' again then click 'Re-authorise this Computer'>
    Enter password etc>
    Restart the Mac>
Open up iTunes should be fine - worked for me anyway
    Good Luck

  • Safari: Pop-up windows for "Mac Keeper"; Random search results and ads everywhere!

Please help! A very annoying pop up window called "Mac Keeper" keeps popping up.
Also, when i search something in google; or any search engine; I will get random results.

There are two possibilities: either the router has been hacked to direct DNS queries to a malicious server, or it's using the right DNS servers, but those servers have been hacked. The first possibility is more likely.
Follow the manufacturer's instructions to reset the router to the default state. Usually that involves inserting the end of a straightened paper clip or a similar tool into a pinhole somewhere in the back of the device, and pressing a switch inside for about 15 seconds. The pinhole may be marked "RESET."
Repeat the initial setup process. Make sure the router does not allow remote setup from the Internet (WAN port), if it has that feature—most do. The DNS servers should be set automatically by your ISP. If you still have trouble with those servers selected, contact your ISP.
Another option, if your ISP fails to secure its servers promptly, is to use an alternative DNS service such as Google DNS or OpenDNS. I don't recommend either one. Don't believe the marketing hype about OpenDNS, in particular. There are no advantages to using it if your ISP is delivering the service you pay for.
If you have a wireless network, it must be secured with WPA 2 encryption. The passwords for the network and the router must each be a string of at least 10 random upper- and lower-case letters and digits, and they should be different. Any password that you can remember is weak.

Each time I click on allow it continues to pop up several more times then goes away, but then continues to appear again, and again. Please help me to resolve this issue. Thank you.

  • Occasionally, when I try to do a Google search, numerous "opening search" pop-up windows appear. I cannot continue typing in my search until I've closed all of these pop-up windows. How do I stop them from EVER popping up again?!

They are small pop-up windows. When I start entering in keywords to search, ever so often, these things pop-up and not just one. Many of them. Popping one upon another upon another upon another. I cannot enter anything new into the Google search box until I have closed all of these windows. And, commonly, numerous ones of them will pop up again when I enter in the next letter in my search.
This is what it says in the pop-up box:
Along the top it says in the light blue margin "Opening search"
Under the above and in a white box it says:
    "You have chosen to open
    [a Windows symbol] search
    which is a: application/json
    from: https//www.google.com
Then on the outline of an inner box, it reads "What should Firefox do with this file?" and it gives the following options:
    Open with ["Browse" button]
    DownThemAll!
Save File [This one is checked as the default]
Then a check-off box with the text next to it: "Do this automatically for files like this from now on.
Under that is an "OK" button that is gray and cannot be checked and a "Cancel" button that can be. I have never done either but used the "X" in the upper right corner of the box to close out this window.
Now I see I have limited options for "This happened" for frequency. It isn't every time Firefox is opened but it is FAR more frequent than "A few times a week". More like several times a day.

Can you turn off the annoying pop-up in iTunes when you hover over a song in your song list.
I don't need a stupid pop-up; this isn't a stupid Windows program. Now my iTunes is jumping around, things are popping up!  *** APPLE! I wnat my old iTunes back!

Like whan you touch the black bar at the top of the screen with the time and the battery percentage and all that...the screen will scroll all the way back to the top.  I'm wondering if there is a way to turn that off

  • When I open firefox, a pop up window asks "do you want to allow the following program to make changes to this computer? How can I get rid of this pop-up window ?

Every time I open the browser, a pop-up window asks "Do you want the following program to make changes to this computer?"
It is unnecessary and annoying to have to click "yes" each time.
How can I get this pop-up window to stop?

Thanks for the help I'll keep the info just in case - but I got so frustrated that I just deleted the program and then re downloaded the current version now everything works fine.

Mac OS X v10.6: Mail.app won’t open, or "You can't use this version of Mail…" alert after installing Security Update 2012-004:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4424?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
Fellow user Grant Bennet-Alder offers this solution:
Some users have reported this problem if the Mail Application has been moved out of the top-level /Applications folder, or duplicated in another location.
When the Security Update is done, the old version of Mail is disabled.
    The solution has been to:
    1) make certain Mail is in the /Applications folder
    2) There is no other copy anywhere else.
    3) Once steps 1 and 2 have been done, Manually download and re-apply the Security Update (2012-004) by hand.

If the Mail.app has been LOST, it can be re-installed by applying the 10.6.8 version 1.1 combo update. But this update is quite large and it is usually not necessary:

  • On websites which open pop-under windows, Firefox 4 seems to be opening these over the current window instead of under. Is this a bug or an intentional feature?

I have noticed a problem on FF4 when browsing sites that open pop-under windows on a user action. With all other browsers (including FF3) these open underneath the main window, but on Firefox 4 they open over the top - acting as pop-ups and not pop-unders.
While pop-unders are annoying, it is even more annoying to have them keep appearing as pop-ups instead.
I have run some tests and the following code successfully opens a pop-under on all browsers except Firefox 4.
It appears that window.focus() is not correctly bringing the current window to the top.
    Example code:
    var w = window.open('http://www.mydomain.com/', 'mywin', 'width=400,height=300,toolbar=1,menubar=1,resizable=1,scrollbars=1');
    if(w){
    w.blur();
    window.focus();
    }

This is normal. Firefox 4 has disabled the default "window flip".
    - go to adress about:config
    - accept and search dom.disable_window_flip set to false;
And popunder, blur/focus javascript function will be back ;)
