HT1338 App Store - Operating Systems

I am trying to download iBooks Author and it is not compatible with my operating system.  I am trying to figure out if there is anyway to download older versions of applications or if there are any other options.   I have only had my MacBook for 2 years and I am very disappointed that I cannot get some of the new apps because because my operating system is too "old".  Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thank-you.

Please try each of the following steps you haven't already taken, until the issue is resolved. After each step, relaunch the App Store and try again.
1. Follow the instructions in the Apple Support article linked below:
Mac App Store: Cannot update App Store purchases or updates do not seem available
2. If any App Store purchases were made under a different Apple ID, or if the bundled iLife applications were accepted under a different ID, sign in to the App Store with that ID to update.
3. Alternatively, delete the probem applications and re-download them with the ID you're using now. If you haven't already purchased them with that ID, you'll have to do that first, because purchases can't be transferred from one account to another.
4. Select the Purchased tab in the App Store window. If you see an item in the list marked "You have 3 apps to accept," click Accept.
5. Triple-click the line below to select it:
/Library/Caches/com.apple.appstore/adoption.plist
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu. A Finder window may open with a file selected. If it does, delete the selected file. You may be prompted for your login password.
Then repeat step 4.
6. Select
Store ▹ View My Account
from the App Store menu bar, then select View hidden purchases. If you're trying to update any hidden purchases, unhide them.
7. Launch iTunes and select
Store ▹ Authorize This Computer
from the menu bar.
8. If you've moved any App Store apps out of the applications folder, or into a subfolder, put them back. Never move or copy those applications.

  • HT1338 app store error on download of OSX Lion!????

when i try and download the lion software from the appstore, I get "The item you've requested is not currently available in the U.S. store."  what do I do?

OS X Lion is no longer available in the Mac App Store, as it was replaced by Mountain Lion, a newer operating system. If your Mac does not meet the requirements for Mountain Lion, you can download Lion by ordering a download code by calling Apple.

  • App Store software system requirments very misleading

While I have not purchased anything my mac can't run why are the listed system requirments totally misleading?
I have a macbook 2.16 intel GMA950, most games in the app store I should not even attempt to run but yet call of duty 4 is listed as only requiring 10.6.6
and its the same for just about ever program sold in the app store from what I can tell.
I wonder how many have purchased stuff based on that and found they can't run it at all.
Apple/develoeprs should be giving much better requirment listings in the store and/or eliminating apps that can't be run on the mac that is accessing the store
    opinions?

There is a difference in system requirements, which usually refer to the computer's operating system, and hardware requirements. The system requirements are important in relation to using the apps on other Macs the user may have. Some folks have not realized that the apps acquired from the app store will only run on Mac OS X 10.6.6, 10.6.7 and now 10.6.8 and have transferred them to Macs with a lower OS installed and the app will not run. Whereas, the same version of the app acquired from another source may well run on a MAC OS lower than 10.6.6.
It would be a lot to list all of the hardware exceptions to a video intense game.

  • HT1338 Checking/updating operating system +pages

I don't know how to update my Mac operating system and I don't know which one I have. Help!
I wanted to buy the latest 'pages' but appstore told me I couldn't on this operating system.

    1. You appear to have Mac OS X 10.6.6, 10.6.7, or 10.6.8. Try purchasing Mountain Lion 10.8 from the Mac App Store. If you get told it's incompatible, choose About this Mac from the Apple menu, check if the computer has at least a Core 2 Duo(not Core Duo) or better CPU with at least 2GB of RAM, and if it does, phone the online Apple Store and order a download code for Lion 10.7. Also see below.
    2. If you don't want to or can't upgrade the computer's OS, buy an iWork 09 package from a source such as Amazon or eBay.

  • Unable to download apps - wrong operating system error

I have Windows 7 Professional with service pack 1 installed.  Still receiving error messages that apps won't work with my operating system.  According to system requirements, I should be fine.  Ideas?

    that's strange.
either try a different browser or if you follow all 7 steps you can directly download a trial here:  http://prodesigntools.com/adobe-cc-direct-download-links.html
and activate with your adobe id.
if you have a problem starting the download, you didn't follow all 7 steps, or your browser does not accept cookies.
the most common problem is caused by failing to meticulously follow steps 1,2 and/or 3 (which adds a cookie to your system enabling you to download the correct version from adobe.com).
failure to obtain that cookie results in an error page being displayed after clicking a link on prodesigntools.com or initiates the download of an incorrect (eg, current) version.

  • Safari, App Store, iTunes, System Updates all stopped working - what can I do?

I have an early 2011 Macbook Pro running Lion.  I have not had any trouble with computer performance.  I do have internet access and am using Firefox to type this.  So my connection isn't a problem.
I've had this computer since February-ish, and I've never had problems.  However, a few days ago, Safari just quit working.  I can open it up fine and it loads with a slight hesitation.  However, after about 10 seconds, it just stops loading.  There is NO beachball.  The loading just freezes.
So for instance, I can open Yahoo.  It will open the page fine.  But the second I try to load my mail or any other site, it just stops in the loading process.  So again, the internet connection isn't the problem.
And I thought, "Oh, I should install the new updates!  That might fix it."  Wrong.  System Updates just sits in the Install phase until I force close it.  iTunes will not open (beachball).  The App Store opens to a blank page.  Even some games don't open.
However, Firefox is fine.  And so are most of my other apps.
Will somebody pleeeeeeease help me?  I hate this.  haha  Thanks.

Oh and I've tried restarting Safari (multiple times).  I've shut down the computer, too.  No help.

  • HT1338 App Store / iTunes language - forced for location, want English

Mountain Lion needs to be purchased via App Store, which forces you to use the local one for your country. Fair enough, could manage to do so, but after installing, App Store itself has now local languge GUI (Dutch), when I keep everything otherwise in English. Same goes for iTunes - GUI in Dutch when I want it in English. Darn!
Most annoying... I really hate mixing languages in my system - and so far been able to keep all neatly in English only.
Any clue if there's a way to change the GUI of App Store / iTunes to English - even if they then hook with the local selection of available stuff anyhow? I'm really not annoyed by forced local selections with both applications, only about the interface language itself.
Thanks for any tips in advance,
    AmsterMac

Are you referring to the Customer Reviews? iTunes doesn't distinguish which language is used by the customer in writing the review so it can't filter out those you don't want to see. In fact someone could write one review and use many languages in it, but it seems those that speak German are the most vocal in the Swiss store.
This is also a user forum. Responses are from other users of Apple products. It is mainly for other users helping you with a problem that they can fix. If you want to give feedback to Apple select Provide iTunes Feedback from the iTunes menu from within the iTunes application.

  • App Store ignoring System Pref. settings

Today I awoke to an App Store notification that there were updates available.  I was given two choices, 1) Install 2) Later (with some options).  I opened App Store app to see what updates were supposedly available and there was the one update I was putting off which was XCode.  I didn't want to install it now.  I knew that I had changed the App Store settings in System Preferences to olny check for updates but not act on them or download them so I opened System Prefs. and verified this.  Sure enough, I had only one item checked (Automatically check for updates).  Everything else was unchecked.
    So, I have a few quesstions;
Why is App Store ignoring its own settings and download an app I didn't want yet?
Why did the notification only offer me two options (again ignoring its own settings)?
Why didn't the notification tell me which updates were available?
    And some comments;
This is just an unacceptable way to approach updates, IMHO.  I need control over what is going to be downloaded and when (bandwidth control and timing).  I must know what is ready for update beforehand so I can understand what it means and be able to opt out or delay it to a point when I am ready (control over what is going to be updated vs what is not and when).

First, open Disk Utility, select your hard disk, go to Partition and create a volume. Move your files to it. Then, press Command and R keys in boot, open Disk Utility, erase the Mac volume and reinstall. When the install ends, transfer your files to your account and delete the volume
